Befitted came as a recommendation from the company that I purchased my dress from, Grace Loves Lace, sadly I had a poor experience with their services. While Michelle and Diane are a very kind mother-daughter duo, their services were subpar. I should have known that my experience would be mediocre when they required me to purchase a face covering for putting my dress on over my head. My dress buttons down the back and is easiest to get in stepping directly into the dress with no risk of rubbing on my face/makeup/skincare. When I arrived for my second visit, they were stating that the dress was ready to take home before I even had it on. This seems to be a familiar theme in some of the other poor reviews. When I put the dress on and had concerns, they attempted to tell me multiple times that the dress is fine and there is nothing to do about it aside from use fashion tape. When you spend $1200 on alterations and your dress is gaping to the point where you can see your nipples, that’s not an appropriate answer. I had to push several times for a suitable resolution. This resolution was sewn in approximately 5 minutes and they sent me home with the dress in hand without having me try it on again after making adjustments. When I got home and inspected the dress, another issue had arisen, the bra inserts were clearly lopsided and this showed even on a photo that Michelle took of me in the dress in the studio…. Something that her team missed. One of the bra pads was also visible from the top of the dress. I expressed my concerns to the team and their resolution was refunding me only $200. I had my dress fixed elsewhere, which cost an additional hundreds of dollars that I could have avoided in just doing better research and reading reviews. On the day of the wedding, the single point bustle that they created came undone during the reception a handful of times and was poorly secured, leading to my dress getting trampled and destroyed on the dance floor. In summary, my experience seemed careless, rushed, and overpriced. Their attempt at making things right was also defensive and not helpful from a financial perspective. Wedding planning can be incredibly stressful, sadly this experience contributed to that stress tenfold.

Diane and Michelle are AMAZING! When I first received my address, I was extremely nervous and to be honest had a lot of doubts and second thoughts. It was way larger than I expected and I felt like I was swimming in it. It was strapless so had a ton of anxiety about it staying up. Diane and Michelle worked wonders on my dress, hemming it and reconstructing the bodice to ensure it fit me like a glove. They were super kind, complimentary, listened to my concerns, and answered my questions. The process was seamless -- my dress needed lots of alterations and I had three appointments total (that includes the pickup appointment). For the amount of work they did, I felt it was fairly priced. No, it wasn't cheap -- but you get what you pay for and they did a wonderful job!

The Befitted mother-daughter duo are AMAZING. I had a wedding dress crisis (original dress had manufacturing defect, back-up dress order was cancelled, got 3rd option dress just 4 weeks before leaving for my wedding) and they were super responsive and fit me in very last minute. Not only did they do a perfect job on the alterations requested, they also suggested a few alterations that made the dress easier to wear on the day of. They are really friendly, sweet, and happy to share tips and tricks they've learned in years of doing this. I can't recommend them enough - they saved my wedding!

This is an amazing alteration store! They made my wedding dress dreams a reality and turned my thrifted dress that almost fit like a glove into the perfect dress. They also helped make my wedding wings (in lieu of a cape or viel) a reality. They were extremely helpful, communicative, and professional!

Working with the BeFitted Team was an absolute dream! I was so worried that my dress was going to take lots of alteration appointments because it was A LOT of dress. (plus size, lots of layers, and lots of beading and all the glitter.) I went in for a consultation appointment and was walked through every alteration they'd make, along with an estimate of what it would cost, and their timeline, so I left with a very clear picture of what I'd be getting with them. The communication and recommendations for undergarments were invaluable resources and so appreciated. What really stunned us all was I only needed 2 appointments! One to take measurements and pin the dress, and one to try it on and take it home. They worked their magic and relieved so much anxiety I had about my dress, leaving me feeling confident and ready for my big day. I can't recommend them enough!

Genuinely the highlight of my wedding planning process! The nicest people, the most thorough tailoring job, and super helpful/informational throughout. I walked in knowing nothing and I left with a beautifully fitted dress and a clear idea of how to prep for the day-of. I cannot say enough great things about working with BeFitted Tailoring Co. Diane and Michelle were absolute gems to work with. My Berta wedding gown looked great on purchase, but beyond amazing once these two were finished with it. I was worried when I brought in the gown because I knew the amount of work it would require; in between all of the delicate lace and beading, the extensive train, and the major hemming required (due to my height), I knew it would be a large project. This was the best duo to work with and you could not be in better hands!! I will definitely be recommending them to all of my friends getting married in the future!

I had a great experience with BeFitted! They were flexible with schedules and I felt extremely comfortable as soon as I walked in. You have their full attention and it is very private. My dress came out perfectly and BeFitted did everything we discussed. I got so many compliments the whole night about how well my dress fit. The packaging of my dress and veil was also a very smooth process. 100% recommend!

Rare instance of a vendor really living up to the hype! My dress looked perfect and the team was so kind and fun too. Appreciated the reminders and emails - they were on top of their game. I felt like I could really trust them as they tailor wedding gowns only. I will be recommending them to everyone I can! Their website is super clear and I felt like I knew what to expect. They tailored my wedding dress, deep cleaned it after the big day, and then they were fully supportive of my crazy idea to cut it to a fun tea length! Not only are they extremely knowledgable and technically skilled, but they are also so kind and just shower you with compliments and encouragement--you'll feel like a star. I brought them my intricately laced, beaded, multilayer wedding dress that needed hemming, the straps taken up and some adjustment of the neckline and they did an AMAZING job. When I put my dress on at the final fitting I was in tears more than when I picked the dress out. Great alterations make all of the difference! They were so kind and professional every step of the way and gave many helpful tips including the best undergarments for my particular dress and instructions on how to bustle. I was nervous about entrusting someone to alter my dress but with them you can be sure you and your dress will be well taken care of.

Absolutely the best and they live up to the lovely experience people have described. I'm detail oriented and have a real appreciation for the craftsmanship of the work they do - my very complicated wedding gown came out PERFECT. I did their pressing service which made the actual day a piece of cake. Appreciated the bustle notes and packing tips as well. They also did an amazing job with cleaning after (I def spilled food all over my train, yikes) and it came back flawless with the boxing and preservation. I'm so glad I found them!

I had the best time working with Michelle and Diane. First of all, Michelle is the best hype woman you could ask for leading up to your wedding. They do such a great job making you feel so confident and excited to wear your dress, and they are so communicative and helpful throughout the whole process. I had quite a tall order for these ladies as I lost nearly 40lbs between buying the dress and the wedding, and they did a wonderful job not only adjusting the dress down two sizes perfectly, but making sure I felt comfortable wearing what was still a rather unforgiving dress and working with me to ensure I was showing off what I wanted to (without any wardrobe malfunctions!) and not worrying about anything I did not. I ended up losing a few more pounds in the last week or so (busy time!), and they did an extra adjustment on the house with super quick turnaround. They also sourced and added fabric-covered buttons for me when the ones from the dress designer (Alexandra Grecco) did not quite work out. I felt so gorgeous in this dress, and it's because of the work Michelle and Diane did. Good tailoring is not a cheap service (make sure you budget for it in your dress budget! About $950), but it is so worth it.

I had a great experience at BeFitted! We eloped and then had our reception three weeks later, and I wanted to have my dress cleaned in between. This was such a tight turnaround AND Thanksgiving was in the middle of all of this, but Michelle and Diane made it happen with time to spare! I really appreciated how stress-free they made the alterations and fitting process.

I unfortunately have to leave this review to warn other brides about using this company. Below are details on my experience that, in summary, was marked by shockingly bad errors in the final alterations and poor customer service. The outcome of my alterations was so bad I felt I couldn't walk down the aisle in it as it was, and I had to take it to another tailor, Green & Blue Tailoring in DC, 2 weeks before my wedding (luckily they were able to fix it!) My customer service experience was awful. I never expected to sob uncontrollably at my final fitting because the final alterations were so bad. I also never expected to essentially be told it was my fault because of the dress I chose, then rushed out the door while I was still sobbing, without any offer to fix the errors in their work. I wish I had taken/kept photos, but didn't think of it at the time. Errors in the alterations work, which were all fixed by Green & Blue and therefore clearly due to low-quality work: - The hem flipped up on both sides - Michelle said it was just caught on the carpeting, but it wasn't. - The straps were shortened more than the pinning in my second fitting, so that the waistline was too high and unflattering - The sides gaped near the bust - Michelle said it was due to the style of dress and that I'd have to use dress tape. I didn't need any on my wedding day after Green & Blue tailored it correctly. - Green & Blue was also able to fix other little things about the dress that Michelle had told me they couldn't fix, like a bump in the lace lining under the skirt and the material on the zipper. Customer service experience: I was SOBBING when I saw myself in my gown at my pick-up fitting. And I mean SOBBING. I couldn't stop. My mother told me later how shocked she was because she has never, in my life including in my childhood, seen me break down uncontrollably in public like that. I was crying even as I swiped my credit card. I was rushed through even though I was distraught, because another client was coming in (all appointments are max 20 minutes long, including changing in and out of your dress!). All Michelle offered was "you look gorgeous," "use boob tape," "this material was hard because it was not a new dress" (even though it was 100% silk with no embellishments and had not been used by a bride before...) and "it will all be better once the dress gets a good press" - no offer to try to fix any issues even when I emailed her about a couple such as the hem once I got the dress home. She also said "After everything you've been through with your wedding dresses, you must just want to get your wedding over with!" She said that because I had brought in a second "reception dress" then changed my mind about using it months earlier. The suggestion that it was "just me" being unhappy with my gown because I'd had a second dress change of heart months earlier was ridiculous, and the idea I'd "want my wedding over with" was hurtful. Their terms and conditions you sign at your first appointment state that once you pick up the dress and take it off their premises, it's officially not their problem - so clearly she was trying to get me out the door with the dress so they wouldn't have to do any more work on it. I wrote Michelle letting her know what the content of my review would be. I was hoping she might offer a partial refund since I had to pay a second tailor to fix their work, but was disappointed with her defensive response.

I had a truly wonderful experience with Diane and Michelle! I sincerely appreciated how streamlined the process was, with the numerous reminder emails and the plan/price for my wedding gown alterations laid out for me well in-advance. This helped me plan the last few months of my wedding and budget! I must highlight their overall positivity and skillset. I came in feeling some regret over my choice of dress because it had so many layers and seemed wildly impractical. But they were positive and assured me they would make me love it again! And that they did. They spun their wands - removing a layer of tulle, shortening the hem, fitting the beaded bodice, and adding a bustle - taking my enormous ballgown and making it fit like a glove! I also want to add that I went across the country with this gown and they did an excellent job giving me recommendations and tips for traveling! If I was doing this all over again, I'd head to BeFitted with absolutely no hesitation. You can trust Diane and Michelle to approach your dress alterations in an organized and optimistic manner!

I can't speak more positively about Diane and Michelle at BeFitted Tailoring Co. I truly had the best experience getting my ballgown altered with them. Not only did they adjust my dress up a size, alter 10 layers of underskirt, and add a bustle, but they did so with kindness, precision, and professionalism. Most importantly, they helped me feel beautiful and confident on my day, and took extra steps to help prepare my dress for my destination wedding. I highly recommend them!

Diane & Michelle did an absolutely INCREDIBLE job with my bridal dress alterations. The dress needed to be taken in from about a size 10 to roughly a size 4-6 with some extra room for my hips. They not only did this expertly with very tricky fabric, but also added a subtle yet easy bustle and inserted bra pads in a way that were very discreet and comfortable. I would absolutely hire them again in a heartbeat!

I am so thankful for Diane and Michelle! I was so happy to find this women and BIPOC-owned shop in Old Town Alexandria and they were both so kind, thoughtful, and skilled to work with. WOW! What wonderful human beings with such a gift and artistry for wedding dresses. I wanted to make sure I got the best of wedding vendors so I booked with Befitted and I am so glad I did. The dress was perfect and they went above and beyond to make sure I was heard and that my dress not only looked flawless but also felt comfortable and good for me to wear all night (I spent this much on a dress, I was insistent on being able to wear it all night long without changing!). Their instructions were very clear, they took COVID seriously, and their helpful tips and underwear advise was so clutch since it's hard to know what to buy. I am so happy with the way my dress came out and that I got to support a local business in the process. I'm telling all of my friends to come here in the future and would do it again just for fun and an excuse to see these ladies!

Diane and Michelle are miracle workers! Finding my dream dress was easy, but finding a talented tailor to alter it was the difficult part. My dress has an illusion neckline and hand-beading throughout, and it required a lot of skill to alter it to fit me just right. That's where Diane and Michelle came in! I am grateful that Diane and Michelle were up to the challenge of tailoring my dress. Not only are they beautiful (both inside and out) and will make you feel incredibly welcome and cared for while you're in their hands, but Diane and Michelle have exceptional technique, knowledge, and skill. Before any cut was ever made, they always clearly communicated what their alteration plans were and how they planned to execute them. Diane and Michelle also did an amazing job making you feel supported by answering all of your questions, working within your schedule for appointments, giving you an emergency kit for the big day in case something happened (it didn't!), and providing you with a diagram to show your bridal party how to bustle your dress. I also sincerely appreciated all of the safety measures that Diane and Michelle enacted due to COVID and their detailed emails explaining how to keep everyone safe while at your appointments. Thanks to Diane and Michelle, my dress was altered to perfection. I couldn't have imagined it fitting me any better, or having a better experience while getting my dress tailored. Amazing tailors! If you're on the fence about who to go with, go with BeFitted! Their work space/studio is on the smaller side, but that's fine since there's a place to change in privacy and they take their time with ensuring a good fit. I eloped during the COVID pandemic, so I couldn't take anyone else in with me (which is fine, it's a dress fitting). They were also very vigilant about safety and cleanliness protocols. They take a genuine interest in your big day and will help get you the right fit, they also tailored a bridesmaids dress of mine for a wedding I was in. Book them early as it does take a few weeks to get your dress back once they make alterations, but they're very good about knowing when your dates are and will follow up with you during and after your wedding. Would absolutely go to them again.

I bought my dress at BHLDN and brought it to BeFitted to get it altered. They did a great job making an already beautiful dress look incredible! I felt beautiful and very comfortable in my dress. I highly recommend Diane and Michelle!

If you want your wedding dress tailoring done right, this is the place to go. My dress needed some tricky alterations (including moving several delicate illusion mesh details) and I wanted to be sure that it would look like I had imagined. Michelle and Diane were incredibly welcoming and communicative, and let me know from the start what would be possible and what wouldn't, and what some alternatives could be to what I was asking for. They came through with a perfectly fitted dress that looked exactly as I had envisioned it - it fits perfectly to my body and complements the height of my shoes. Michelle even helped me figure out how to correctly apply boob tape (which they carry in store!) and sent me off with printed instructions on how to travel with my dress on a plane. BeFitted is almost certainly pricier than your neighborhood tailor, but if you want to be absolutely positive that your wedding dress looks perfect on your big day, you shouldn't go anywhere else. Thank you Michelle and Diane!

These ladies live up to the hype, everyone! I've never had anything REALLY tailored before and this experience as so easy. They explained everything, made some tips for how to go about my wedding day and take care of my dress, and of course, made sure everything fit perfectly. My dress was completely transformed. I'm a believer in alterations now!! Appointments can be hard to get sometimes so I'd just recommend people book ahead of time. Also don't be like me and forget to bring your shoes - they will ask you to do that!

Do not take your dress here. They are careless and expensive. I was rushed to make an appointment early because of the pandemic and they didn't know how long they were going to be open or how long it was going to take to make alterations. I was rushed during the appointment because they had overbooked clients and had multiple brides in the salon at the same time. I barely had time to put the dress on before I was rushed to give you my credit card. The time spent analyzing the dress was not sufficient and the seamstress was moving too fast and was not listening to what I wanted to do with the dress. I was told that the things that I wanted were included in the quote and they were not. Making the price I ended up paying for the alterations even more insanely high. I ended up taking my gown to another seamstress, she took impeccable care of the dress and charged half the price. She said that the BeFitted Tailoring team did a terrible job taking care of the dress, there were snags in the dress from pins and needles, the cuts in the gown were sloppy and not consistent, the seams in the dress were done over the boning and not properly completed. You can see where the seamstress sewed the bra cups into the dress through the front of the dress because the job was done too quickly. There was puckering happening with the fabric because the fabric was not matched up properly when they sewed the dress back together. I brought up multiple concerns during my fitting and I was told that they would be addressed at my final fitting before the wedding or that they were not issues. Which I now know were lies and ways to just rush me out of the shop. They refused to listen to my requests to fix the dress and were reckless with my designer gown. I would never recommend another bride take her dress here, you will regret it.

The Befitted team was so incredible. Not only did they do such a great job tailoring my dress, but they're also so sweet, professional and efficient. My dress fit me like a glove and I've never felt more beautiful. I would highly recommend!

I fell in love with a dress with this funky boning that did not work for me and BeFitted Tailoring did an amazing job taking it in so that it would actually fit my torso. They had some very helpful recommendations including how to travel with the dress to San Diego, how to choose the best undergarments, and how to make use of double sided tape. My dress was made of the most delicate fabric, which would probably make most people nervous, but not Michelle and Diane! They did such an excellent job and were the best to work with, and I can’t recommend them enough! I’m so happy it fits perfectly for my long-awaited wedding.

I was nervous about alterations as I had a very simple fit and flare dress that needed to fit like a glove, and it also needed to be sized down pretty significantly. While alterations were not cheap, I felt completely confident throughout the process that they were going to be perfect and that piece of mind was worth every penny. I had 3 fittings starting about 4 months before the wedding and felt so supported throughout the whole process. I loved how transparent and communicative Michelle and Diane were, scheduling all my appointments in advance, answering all of my questions, talking me through each and every step of the alterations, and providing me with tons of info when I finally took my dress home. It was honestly one of the least stressful parts of wedding planning as these two ladies were so on top if it! The best thing about BeFitted is that Diane and Michelle were always willing to give both their professional AND personal opinion. There were so many decisions to make around alterations it really helped feeling like I had a friend in the room telling me what they thought would look the best, rather than someone who was trying to make as much money as possible off me or just rush me out the door. The only negative thing I have to say is that I was very concerned about my bustle breaking and the train being a pain all night... so much so that I really considered removing the train to my dress. Although I was assured the bustle was very strong and reinforced, it broke less than 10 minutes into cocktail hour and was in fact a pain all night. I wish I had just followed my heart and cut off the train, or had a "backup" bustle option added in case the bustle failed (e.g. wrist loop).

My wedding was postponed for 9 months (thanks COVID!) and therefore my dress that had previously fit like a gem didn't so much anymore. Four weeks out from the wedding I went to BeFitted and these ladies worked magic!!! Not only did they take out my dress, but they offered advice to life my *girls* so they looked their best in my dress! They also fixed my bustle as it was done poorly at my last fitting appointment by another company. Also, their studio is SO CUTE!! Hire them for sure!!!!

Wow, such a lovely experience! I appreciate how clear they are about all of their COVID policies and how efficient they were! My dress only took one fitting and it fit like a glove which I think speaks to just how talented these ladies are. I loved my dress all along but was slightly hesitant before tailoring it about the way it would look on me. After working with BeFitted, I was amazed at how perfectly it fit me and how much more comfortable I was wearing it! Michelle and Diane are so good at what they do and gave great advice. They are super kind and responsive and had very fair rates. They made the experience special and way less nerve-wracking! Also, they were very considerate, professional and flexible as changes arose due to the coronavirus.

BeFitted has been amazing to work with! I honestly can't praise them enough! They have done such a great job keeping me and others safe in their store during COVID. Everything is clean and everyone is masked. I brought my wedding dress to them and it required a few adjustments as well as a bussle and a hem. The hem was done with such care and precision to maintain the lacey scalloped edges. My dress is ready with plenty of time to spare before my big day. I look forward to wearing my perfect wedding dress in a few weeks! They're even dry cleaning and preserving the dress for me after. So easy! Additionally, when I had issues with a bridesmaid dress for another wedding, they were able to quickly fix the dress at a very reasonable price and it was ready so quickly. Their attention to detail is unparalleled; they are so kind and friendly. I am so grateful for everything!

The ladies at BeFitted were wonderful! They were extremely knowledgeable in explaining what was needed to take my dress from great to perfect! I bought my dress more than a year before my wedding, and BeFitted was really great about also spacing out my appointments to ensure my final fitting was just before the big day. I will say, the alterations weren’t cheap, but then again, the quality and end result with my dress was a grand slam—so well worth the money. Can’t thank these women enough for making me feel great on my wedding day!

Michelle and Diane are the BEST! After a nightmare experience trying (and failing) to coordinate alterations for my dress through the atelier where I purchased it, I asked my coordinator for referrals and I'm SO happy things worked out and I ended up taking my dress to Befitted. These women are amazing, and they made every step of the process so easy and seamless. Will also say I give them huge props for how they integrate different tech platforms (payment, scheduling, etc) to make every step of the process so easy. I've never seen two people work so quickly! They did a huge amount of work to my dress and transformed it into absolutely the perfect fit. Can't thank them enough!!

I don't know what I would have done without Michelle & Diane! They are amazing, talented, professional, loving and super friendly. I had doubts about my dress alterations since I had illusion sleeves and they kept me calm throughout the process ensuring me that they would do whatever they had to to make it work. They made the dress fit absolutely perfect and it was better than I could have imagined. I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend.
