We have used Behind the Scenes (BTS) for 3 events in our backyard in the last year and a half - 2 weddings and 1 reception (during and post Covid). We seriously LOVE everything about BTS! There food is amazing and everything is presented so beautifully. The bar tending service is fabulous too, with a very professional set up. The BTS staff is incredible and listens carefully to what you want for your event, and then they take it from there. They pull together everything needed to transform your location into an unbelievable venue! Everyone was prompt, friendly and extremely helpful from start to finish. Our family highly recommends Behind the Scenes!
Our venue Twin Oaks Gardens cancelled on us 10 days before our wedding date. We were not allowed to dance!!! Seriously?!?!?!
Anyhow, a good friend of ours gave us BTS as a caterer to explore. THEY WERE AMAZING!!!! made our wedding day fabulous in less than 10 days to put it all together. Our guests raved at the service, food and the staff way beyond phenomenal. 1000+ thank you's. BTS thank you, thank you, thank you from our hearts!

BTS good, Venue bad; read to the end or don't read at all.
Wedding scheduled of June 2020 didn't go to plan. Our venue the Horton grand resigned our contract late may of 2020, then fired most of their staff and cancelled our contract Late in the year. The new management signed with behind the scenes as the exclusive 3rd party event staff and catering.
As my vendors were already in line and paid, I could not take advantage of all of BTS amenities, and as BTS is a third party with more overhead, the pricing and services was a significant upcharge with less amenities then our previous contract with the Horton grand.
All that being said, I believe that BTS took over a book of clientele that was going to be hard to please, a real shit job. I believe they gave me the best deal they could without giving it away.
Once the price and contract were worked out, the BTS team was dialed, professional, personable, kind fun. Megan was awesome, the chef was awesome, Kiri was awesome, hell the BTS bartender at the salt and whiskey bar was awesome. I hope that Julie and the BTS management continue to support and empower their employees. Customer service following covid has been abysmal, so it was a standout for me that everyone BTS had on staff was excited to provide some actual hospitality.
I think BTS went above and beyond in making up for The Horton Grands bad business and apathetic general manager.
Behind the Scenes catered our wedding and the food was amazing! The service at the wedding was very polite and professional and we especially enjoyed working with Kelly. She was very patient with us and working on a plan that fit our budget. Would highly recommend them for your next event!
To say we were happy with the service provided by the staff at BTS is a gross understatement. They were with us from the very beginning and were a huge part of making our wedding day as amazing as it was. Kelly was the first person we met with when we started to plan our big day, and her ability to make us feel comfortable with making the big decisions was so appreciated. She was incredibly knowledgeable about everything that BTS has to offer and about our venue, the Martin Johnson House. She provided outside recommendations for anything that BTS didn’t supply and was paramount in helping to coordinate vendors in the early stages of our planning. We came in with some big ideas and 1,000 questions and Kelly was always there to help us. She was also a life saver at the wedding when she was the only one who could figure out my bustle (I can’t thank her enough for that)!
The wait staff at the wedding was impressive, very professional, and friendly! They made sure we, as the bride and groom, had everything we needed, but they were also incredibly attentive to all of our guests. They were great at reading the needs of those around them and even took the time to help other vendors when appropriate. We want to praise their punctuality and flexibility; everything was set up on time and the changes to the set-up between parts of the event were executed seamlessly and went unnoticed by guests. There was no issue with clean up either and everyone was out of the venue on time. We think it’s a huge compliment to them that our other vendors have noted that they would like to work with BTS staff at other events.
Last, but certainly not least, the food was AMAZING! Honestly, people are still raving about it and we got married in October. From the start we were excited about the options that BTS offered. The tasting helped us to narrow everything down, build a menu for the evening, and gave us a good idea of portion sizes. We were so happy with our choices! Everything was served at a perfect temperature and timing of service to the tables was very well coordinated.
We were blown away by BTS and definitely recommend them to cater any event you may have (they have a lot of talent up their sleeves and do more than just weddings). A huge thank you to Kelly and all the staff at BTS who made our day so perfect!
First and foremost, Greg and I would like to thank you so much Jacob for being a part of our special day and for all the work you put into making the day perfect. We couldn’t have been happier with you and all of the staff at Behind the Scenes Catering. From the very beginning, you were welcoming, listened to our thoughts and needs and always had suggestions to help us with the planning process. Even though we chose you for our ‘day of coordinator,’ you went above and beyond and answered all our questions promptly for months leading up to the wedding. You heard our requests and put together the pipe and drape curtain which was important to us. You reached out to all of our vendors and helped arrange details including the spotlight for our cake (which was brilliant!) You helped secure all of our little wine cork place cards to the barrel we used, which looked great and created a beautiful menu for the tables. You even helped me out of the limo and made sure I had water before walking down the aisle (thanks!). We could go on and on, but overall you were wonderful and calming throughout the entire day.
As for the catering, Behind the Scenes was absolutely one of our favorite wedding vendors. Your company allowed us to store all of our alcohol and large décor at their warehouse location which helped us out tremendously. Our guests raved about the food, it was so delicious!! I have not talked to one person that said they disliked the food. The chef listened to our requests and made changes from the original menu. The wait staff and bartender were awesome! We have talked to so many guests who have said they were so accommodating and friendly. We will definitely use them for any future events.

Oh. My. Goodness. Behind the Scenes catered our July wedding, and it was amazing. Everything tasted so good, and numerous guests have been raving about how good the food was. Professional, punctual and delicious. Exceeded my expectations.
Behind the Scenes Catering is my go-to for catering of events and weddings in San Diego. Their staff always goes above and beyond for clients and their guests!!! They are flexible and incredibly accommodating, their food is fabulous, they offer numerous personalized menu options and they work with your vision and theme. Honestly, they are so much more than a catering company and will continue to be on my preferred vendor list for years and years to come!
We would not have had the wedding we had if it was not for Behind the Scenes Catering, especially because of Kelly McElroy. We had to plan a wedding from across the country which was not easy. Kelly helped put everything into place. She was so helpful and nice. The quality of the services was amazing. Our wedding was absolutely beautiful! We would not have changed a single detail! Behind the Scenes is the best decision we could have made!
We cannot sing enough praise for our caterer. We had a variety of selections including seafood, chicken and steak, and everything was delicious. The table settings and display of the food was incredible. It was the extra touch of perfection they put on it that really stood out to us. The servers and bartender were all wonderful, friendly, alert, and willing to go the extra step for us.
