I will just outline a few things that led to my low review. I am willing to admit that Tarah and I just never cultivated good rapport and communication and this probably exacerbated things. I believe everyone tried their best. My parents also turned into messes day of and had to make 3 trips to the church because they kept forgetting important things they were responsible for bringing. Also, Covid-19 makes everything harder.
Tarah remained confident, perhaps over confident, about understanding the vision and her ability to do the scope of the work. My now husband and I insisted on additional staff being hired because of our concerns around getting everything done. We reduced our additional staff plan based on her insistence we didn't need that much. Ultimately, there were issues around not having enough staff (late set up, things not being set-up, attendees complaining, overall stressed atmosphere).
I fielded multiple complaints about her being rude to guests, her staff drinking on the job and her seeming "like a bully". I certainly felt bullied by her policy of not letting me be involved in set-up and keeping me in the dark about issues that she recruited all of my family into supporting. It left me feeling very lonely and very stressed, especially when I discovered "mistakes" that would have been resolved by just speaking to me. For example, my guest book never got put out, extra water glasses were used instead of the wine glasses and the 6 dozen cookies I bought for the dessert table were never put out.
She also made a number of executive decisions that I disagreed with such as putting the favors (packaged cookies) on the bar and dessert table, rather than on a separate table with a "favor" sign and changing the reception layout despite also requiring to upload a to scale layout with seat assignments to her website.
There is more, but I think you get the idea. Be very thorough in your interviews and hire someone who you seem to have a good connection with. I think the outcome for us was that everyone was pretty frustrated and let down at the end of the day, including Tarah.
