hip” restaurant “Mother of Pearl” are two of the best kept secrets in the vast culinary scene of New Orleans. As a very hands-on two-time FOB, it was my distinct pleasure to work closely with them and their all-star team at BPC, the caterer we chose for our daughter’s recent wedding reception. Katie and her catering colleague, Kelsey, were personally involved throughout the planning process. Black Pearl’s alliance with Felicity Church, our venue, was such a blessing. Without it, we may not have ever known about them, which would have been our loss. Their vast knowledge and experience, combined with their intimate familiarity with our specific venue, were invaluable. Walker, Katie and Kelsey were an integral part a "dream team" we had assembled of other wedding vendors of all types with a history of working cohesively together, which was a huge plus. The synergy of their combined experience produced amazing results and inspired the confidence of our family. Most importantly, they flawlessly delivered a magical evening that our daughter and new son-in-law will never forget, nor will anyone else who attended. We were overwhelmed with the depth and breadth of the BPC catering menu, the gourmet quality of each dish and their world-class service. Always a text or a quick phone call away, Katie and Kelsey were extremely accessible on short notice to serve as a sounding board and advise on even the smallest of decisions. As fellow foodies and oenophiles, we thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with Chef Walker and Katie at our private tasting over our desire for “off the beaten path” menu items and bespoke international wine selections. Katie and Kelsey were extremely helpful (and patient) in navigating us through the vast selection of Chef Walker’s impressively unique array of gastronomic creations from which we were allowed to choose for our reception. Then we were blown away by the BPC team’s execution on the day of the wedding. We and our guests are still talking about the quality of the food and service! Best ever! Among other noteworthy standouts, Chef’s ability to replicate his next-level culinary skills in preparing dishes to the same degree of meticulous precision for nearly 200 people in a venue kitchen as he did for eight of us in his own restaurant was truly inspiring. I mean, who can tempura fry okra to crispy delicate perfection on such a scale. I jokingly bet him he couldn’t do it and he took my money. Lol. And then there was their epic cheese and charcuterie farm table -- it was truly a work of art and should have been in a museum, but I’m glad we ate it. Ha! I can’t possibly say enough good things about, or give a higher recommendation of, Black Pearl as a caterer and Mother of Pearl as a standalone restaurant. More importantly, I can’t say enough about Walker, Katie and Kelsey as the genuinely delightful people (and new friends) that they are. Trust me – choosing Black Pearl was one of the best decisions we made and I would highly recommend that you do the same. You’ll be glad you did, regardless of which venue you choose. And the good news is, even if you aren’t planning a wedding, you can still treat yourself to a special dinner at Mother of Pearl -- and tell Chef hello for us!

Each plate was work of art. There were no traditional serving or chafing dishes, each station was set up in the most artistic and beautiful presentation. Each meal was perfectly curated with a slight touch of NOLA for the NOLA experience. There were some roasted fruits and veggies used as amazing decor. The passed appetizers were beautifully curated on each plate. A unique feature we had was a server walking around with an old fashion cigarette box which housed shucked oysters on ice and all the fixings. Our guests loved this and it made a great presentation. The majority of the food was made onsite which made it even more special. For dessert they made beignets onsite that were passed along with cafe au lait and creme brûlée, which as all extraordinary! One thing very important to us was that our guests had no lines for the bar or the stations and Katie made certain to execute on this flawlessly! We had a vision and knew the experience we wanted for our guests. All in all, Katie and her staff were exceptional and executed flawlessly!

ancelled a month prior to the event due to COVID. We subsequently had to navigate through 3 more postponements because of the pandemic. Katie + Walker were kind and helped us through the process of cancelling and rebooking multiple dates with grace as we were stressed out basket cases-- and we truly appreciate it!
We knew we were going to book Black Pearl after our trial tasting because their food was so elevated and delicious-- and we are so glad we did. They were super easy and professional to work with in building the menu and they helped to guide us through what would work best.

ted to give our guests some great southern fare. We had a jambalaya station, bbq brisket that melted in your mouth and biggest oysters anyone had ever seen! The food was fresh and full of flavor. Many of our guests said it was the best wedding food they'd ever had (and I'd have to agree). They worked with us to curate our perfect menu, were cognizant of our gluten and shellfish allergy guests and were reasonably priced. I'd hire then again in a heartbeat.

rsal dinner catered at a beautiful home in New Orleans and they did such a fantastic job. The food selection was curated perfectly. It was such a great value, we had plenty of food for days after that we could nibble on. The shrimp rolls were so damn good. And cheese boards were bountiful. The pork was to die for. So freaking good. And Turner, our bartender was doing a fantastic job all night. Serving people, keeping things tidy, and us not having to worry about a thing! It was such a perfect evening. r tastes and accommodate our dietary restrictions. The tasting was incredibly well thought out and felt special. At our tasting we were able to taste the cochon de lait, endive salad, chicken lolipops, crab boil sweet potato hash, and chile carrots. Each bite was better than the next! For our wedding day we added in steak tartare, tomato tart and oysters. It was the perfect combination that also appealed to all of our guests and all of their dietary restrictions. Everyone was RAVING about the crab boil sweet potato hash and the endive salad. My guests were scavenging the fridge the next day for leftovers and were disappointed when they were quickly eaten because they were just that good. I hope to use Black Pearl in the future for a dinner party.

ostly through my wedding planners at Mint Julep Productions, who highly recommended Black Pearl!) so didn’t get to interact directly too much with Katie and Walker during the planning process, but the experience we had with them at the tasting was enough to see how great they are! Everything we tried was delicious and the presentation was phenomenal (they used flowers from their garden!!). At our actual wedding in October, the food was out of this world, our guests still talk about it (the stars being the Pig Roast and the Au Gratin Potatoes! Although everyone seemed to love everything!). Not only was the food delicious, but the presentations (stations and passed apps) all matched our wedding decor and “vibe”, truly incredible. Our guests also raved about the staff, they loved interacting with the chefs at each station and said everyone was so nice. Our catering manager for the evening was Anthony, who we met that day and was very sweet and made sure we were all good during our bride and groom food break. n finding a vendor. I was nervous but trusted Katie from our first email conversation. She was quick to respond to everything and worked with us to give us the menu we desired. I'm originally from New Orleans and my husband is from California, we had guests coming from all over the country. I loved that Black Pearl puts a twist on New Orleans classics. I was able to do a tasting about 9 months after booking Black Pearl. The hardest part was narrowing down my favorites. Everything was incredible. So much thought and care was put into their dishes. Our guests are still raving about the food that night, most saying it's the best wedding food they've ever had- coming from New Orleans natives too. Katie and her team worked hard to provide us with everything we wanted. They really went above and beyond to take safety measures for Covid as well and that was a huge relief. We contracted them for a corporate event in New Orleans centered around the College Football National Championship. My client is always wary of "wedding vendors" as this is a more masculine, business group, but Black Pearl is the definition of "get you a [caterer] that can do both!" It was important that this dinner hit a few marks: not a wedding, not traditional chaffing dish buffet catering, a taste of New Orleans without just the stereotype dishes, and hit the very sophisticated (and littered with dietary restrictions) palate of our group. This is a TALL order for a group of 90+.
After months of back and forth with a very patient Katie, we finally came to town for a tasting. She and Chef Walker tirelessly addressed all our dietary concerns without blinking. It was the nicest, most enjoyable experience that completely solidified our choice (and raised the bar frankly too high for me when it comes to other catering tasting requests!). I can’t even explain how Black Pearl was able to create the New Orleans, but uniquely twisted menu for us, but it was absolutely perfect. Action stations with texture, color, sounds, décor – everything was presented so beautifully and part of the price.
I highly suggest pairing your Black Pearl catering experience with Cocktail Creative to ensure your bar is up to par with the amazing food. Quinn and the C+C group have an exceptional product and the craft ice, individually hand-smoked old fashioneds, delicate tiny garnishes, unique glassware and recipes made it a night everyone won’t stop talking about. Our event was at Race & Religious (another amazing venue I can’t recommend enough). I would recommend Black Pearl to anyone and if/when we land another event in New Orleans, they’ll be my first call!

ng in New Orleans was an absolute dream. Their self-proclaimed artisanal twist on traditional Cajun fare provided for a truly incredible dining experience at our wedding. It is not hyperbole or an exaggeration when we say that we had countless guests raving about the culinary delight that they enjoyed at our wedding, and not just in comparison to other “wedding food”, but compared to dining experiences in general. Our guests were offered a premier bite of food at every turn, from the cheese spread to the passed appetizers, the array of main dishes, to the decadent desserts. Using the term delicious would not do it all justice.
Backtracking to the planning process, Black Pearl could not stress enough that they were there to serve us. While we let their expertise guide us in crafting our menu, they also accommodated every last personalized detail that we requested. (Side note: do yourselves a favor and schedule a tasting. Your tastebuds will be quite thankful) And sure enough, when the big day rolled around, Walker and his staff executed our menu to perfection. Meanwhile, Katie, leading the charge in operations and logistics went above and beyond, basically doubling as an event coordinator and saw her thoroughly detailed wedding plan for their team unfold before our eyes. Having extensive knowledge of our wedding venue led to the most appropriate layout of different stations, each carefully located in such a way that served our guests in the best way possible.
We were so excited to have them as our caterer that we even utilized their services, on somewhat short notice no less, for our rehearsal dinner. True to form, they took an otherwise simple drop off catering order for a small group of people, seized the opportunity, and turned it into a wonderful patio dining experience for us. there are no shortage of choices for amazing food and picking the best caterer for your wedding can be stressful: no one wants average food at a New Orleans wedding---you want the best! Walker, Katie, and the team made sure everything for our menu was perfect and even helped us customize a menu that encompassed the flavors and cuisines my husband and I have experienced in our world travels while also doing the traditional New Orleans fare better than anyone I've tasted. EVERYONE couldn't stop talking and raving about the food! My only regret is I didn't take more to go of the bbq shrimp and grits or the etouffee for after our wedding because my husband and I finished our box within minutes! We loved the food so much that we are hoping the team will cater a dinner of our wedding favorites in the future for an anniversary (and we have only been married 3 months!). They made absolutely delicious mini desserts as well because we didn't want a traditional cake. Everything was personalized and done with care and precision. Our guests had great feedback about everything they served. We felt that the pricing was very reasonable for the excellent quality of food and service we received. Finally, the fact that they provided bar services but allowed us to independently purchase liquor was awesome, as it saved us some money and allowed us to serve only our favorite brands and types of alcohol.
