When it came to the person I wanted to marry, my decision was made the first day I met my wife (cliché claxon, but it’s true), just as the place where I wanted to marry her became clear the moment we went to Blue Hill Farm. The truth is, we vis...ited one place in total on our search because we found everything we wanted in this one beautiful home on top of a hill; I say the word “home” here purposefully, as the feeling you get from when Waldo and Shirley first walk out their home to greet you, with all the dogs in tow, is that you have become family.
• The location is breathtaking.
• The amenities and options are copious:
• Blue Hill Farm is extremely flexible with the type of event you want to have. We ended up having basically a two night event with a larger, about 50 people, yet laid back rehearsal dinner, in the farmhouse, before then using the farmhouse again the next day for the wedding reception. Interestingly, using the farmhouse as the sole dinner and reception location was not something others had done previously with a wedding our size; so let’s just think about how much customization that means there is, here we were, 3-4 years into Blue Hill Farms hosting weddings, and couples are still coming up with new ways to utilize the location. In addition, as this suggests, we had access to the property the day before the wedding, the full day of the wedding and half a day the day after – none of this, “you have to be in and out between 3-10” nonsense that a lot of venues insist on.
• This flexibility continues right into the type of wedding in terms of cost also. Our wedding was more of a low key, informal, spend time with family and friends event, and that’s what we paid for at a very reasonable rate. Others, we have seen and heard about, appear to be more elegant and expensive affairs, and then there’s everything else in between. The important takeaway is that you can do whatever you want to do, and the base rate of what you pay for the location for 2 and a half days appears to be unrivaled in the area based on research and friends’ weddings.
Finally, Blue Hill Farm’s greatest amenity, so to speak, are Shirley and Waldo. These are two people that are so proud of everything they do, and so happy they get to engage with you on your journey. At most weddings you can tell when a couple has put their hearts and soul into a wedding venue, with little details that only they would pick, but at Blue Hill Farm you can guarantee that there are at least two more people that have done the same, in Shirley and Waldo. At the end of the day, this is their home, and what a beautiful home it is.
From the moment they greet you with a smile on the first meeting, they are fully invested in you as a couple, and your wedding day. They are able to provide you with advice on how to set up the property, vendors to utilize, what is and is not possible, what could be possible, all while expressing deep enthusiasm, verve, and comfort that even when you feel like you are in over your head, you are reassured you are on the right path.
The venue as a whole thrives because of the love and dedication that they have both put into it – and to me, starting the chapter of marriage on a foundation of love and dedication is no bad thing.
