We had our welcome party and wedding at Boar's Head on October 19, 2024. We truly cannot imagine having our wedding anywhere else. We were looking for a venue where we could have all events in one place and a golf aspect. Boar's Head was the perfect fit! We had our welcome party at The Ridges Putting Course and our wedding and reception at the HAP configuation. It was a small wedding of about 40 people and the venue fit the classy, intimate feel that we were going for. Our guests that stayed on property thoroughly enjoyed Boar's Head and everyone raved about the food. We had a few hiccups with planning along the way (related to golf), but Lauren Wallis (Wedding and Catering Sales Manager) and her team did everything they could to still make our wedding weekend a wonderful weekend that we'll remember forever. We highly recommend Boar's Head to anyone looking to have a wedding in Charlottesville.
Boar’s Head was the perfect place to host our wedding! I loved that you could host your entire wedding weekend at Boar’s Head and there are so many great options for each event, depending on the weather and number of guests. The grounds are stunning and we had so many great options for photography as well. We initially planned on an indoor ceremony since March is so unpredictable, but the weather ended up being perfect and they were able to flawlessly move the ceremony outside to the Greens with just a day’s notice. We had our reception in the Pavilion and it was so elegant and allowed for the perfect flow for our cocktail hour and dinner. We had the pleasure of working with Lauren Wallis as our wedding coordinator and she truly went above and beyond. We were in constant contact the year leading up to our wedding and she was able to accommodate all of our requests, down to the type of glassware for our signature drinks! Most of our guests stayed at the Boar’s Head and they absolutely loved the rooms, amenities, and the restaurant and bar at the inn. The hors d’oeuvres and dinner were excellent on our wedding- our guests loved the food and open bar. The bartenders and waitstaff were also so professional. We had such a great experience with Boar’s Head throughout the planning process and thought the weekend was truly perfect. Thank you Boar’s Head!
We had a wonderful experience having our wedding and reception at The Boar's Head Resort on a gorgeous summer weekend! The wedding planner, catering manager, and staff were very professional, responsive, friendly, and helpful every step of the way from helping us plan the menus to ensuring that we did a walkthrough the day before the ceremony. The food was great and so was the service. The attention to detail, friendliness, and professionalism made for a really fun, wonderful experience for us and our guests. It meant a lot to me to get married in my home town and couldn't be happier that we chose the Boar's Head Resort!
The Boar's Head was absolutely the perfect choice for our wedding weekend! They worked so hard to make every version of our dream wedding happen in a year with so many ever changing plans and logistics. The food was phenomenal, the rooms and views were gorgeous, and they made sure everything we needed was there and more! It was the perfect fit for us, and I couldn't imagine our special day being anywhere else!
The Boars Head is an incredible place to get married! Their indoor and outdoor options are all amazing, meaning it’s not weather dependent. We loved it so much we even had our rehearsal dinner there in a different area. As we reflect on our 1st anniversary and how magical it was, we truly think we chose the best place. Rebecca, their event planner is highly organized and skilled!! Your guests won’t even have to leave and can make a whole long weekend out of it with swimming, golf, tennis, cycling classes, and more. And the food is absolutely incredible. Most brides and grooms say they don’t even get to eat their food in their wedding night and they made sure we got to and even had leftovers delivered to our room. Easily the best place in Cville to get married! Highly recommend contacting Rebecca, their event planner!
We wanted a non-winery wedding at a modern, upscale venue & thankfully Boar's Head exists in C'Ville. It was recently renovated & the restaurant and facilities look beautiful. We loved the ceremony & reception space, & the food. MY GOD THE FOOD. The chef is great & the food was outstanding. As a venue, BH provides it all - the Silver buffet wedding package came w/ a bridal suite, a honeymoon suite the night of the wedding, ceremony & reception space, tables, chairs, linens, table #'s, buffet (plated was also an option), & the cake! We even got to decide on the cake layers & icings, & sent a few inspiration pictures from Pinterest of how we wanted the cake to look & they did a beautiful job. So much of what we needed for the wedding was already provided by BH - some couples prefer finding their vendors separately but we were willing to pay a little extra (BH isn't cheap, but it's not crazy expensive) to have a somewhat "all-inclusive" experience. Rebecca & Ann were easy to work with, very professional, & coordinated w/ our other vendors (photographer, florist, DJ, coordinator) to make our day feel organized and calm. The package also comes w/ the tasting which was intimate, relaxing, & we got to meet the chef. THE FOOD IS SO GOOD. Our guests raved over the food.
Couple things to be aware of:
- BH requires a day-of coordinator. They'll provide one for a fee, but we found a WONDERFUL coordinator from their Preferred Vendors list. She was a much better value than what BH would've provided (they make it clear they prefer to not be the day-of coordinator). I would tell any bride to get a DoC, but it's an extra cost to be aware of when booking BH
- BH contract$ out their ceremony A/V service$ for a tidy fee, which took us by surprise (our DJ was booked already). A/V included two mic$, laptop rental, & a technician to play your music. Dave the A/V Guy i$ very profe$$ional, understanding, & ea$y to work w/ - a$k for Dave to do your actual ceremony, not one of their other tech$.
- The wedding suite was lovely...but a little quality control would've been nice. They put us in a room w/ a clanky & LOUD A/C unit. Be sure you ask for a newly-renovated suite. And maybe ask to go into the suite & listen to the climate control unit? Anyways...we didn't sleep well the night of our wedding, & not due to anything romantic or alcohol.
- BH will do many things to make your day perfect...but some unexpected things might be DIY. We got married by the pond, which is also near a giant green generator thing (which they turn off during the ceremony) visible near the aisle you'd walk down. We felt it was a bit of an eyesore & asked for months whether there were plans to cover it up (past pics of BH showed nice white lattice work & greenery covering it). There was no movement on that front so my wonderful husb& spent the morning of our wedding going to a home improvement store to buy white lattice & greenery to cover it up himself. We just thought, since BH is trying to be the premier wedding venue in C'Ville, they might take the time to improve their outdoor ceremony space a little bit. Especially since they'd recently torn down a beautiful willow tree (the most popular feature of the wedding space at BH).
I definitely recommend BH to folks who are tired of the winery scene, & are looking for something that offers a lot of your wedding needs all in one place. They also offer multiple package types, which is nice, but I do recommend the silver package. Fantastic.
We are so happy we picked the Boar's Head for our wedding venue. We held our rehearsal dinner in the Ednam Room and our reception was in the Pavilion Grand Ballroom. Esme Pitard was such a pleasure to work with, throughout the entire year leading up to the wedding, and during the entire weekend. She was very organized and kept us on track with planning. We had an amazing tasting about a month before, tasting 3 full entrees, several hors' d'oeuvres, and then such a fantastic cake tasting display. The Boar's Head is a fantastic venue because you can get so much in one place. The rooms were beautiful with a southern charm, not to mention balconies or patios on every room. There are several options for rehearsal dinner and receptions depending on the size of your party. The Ednam Room had a nice outdoor courtyard which was nice for Friday night. The Pavilion has a beautiful prefunction space and the ballroom is just as it's labeled: "grand." We went to the "Racquets Restaurant" for the after party both nights which had a nice patio with fire pits. We also had several options for pictures before and after the ceremony- some backdrops included flowers, willow trees, the lake, brick walkways, and even the rooms and hallways. We had good experiences with all of the staff, and especially want to thank Esme. Best day of our lives!
We had our rehearsal dinner and wedding block through the Boar's Head Inn. Initially, we loved working with BHI, but about six months before our wedding, the BHI coordinator we had been working with left the company. With that, there was a scramble to find out who would be helping us, which took at least another month. This was problematic because we called so many times without an answer, that we eventually had to drive from DC to Charlottesville in an attempt to talk to someone, and they still told us they'd "call us back." They eventually did start returning our calls, and things got better. Esme was helpful in planning our rehearsal dinner and was good about answering our questions; however, we continued to run into issues. For example, we were told that the Boar's Head Inn's bar would remain open the Saturday night of our wedding until 2 AM, so we told all of our 250 guests to meet us at the bar after the reception. When we arrived at the Inn, it was closed and the staff refused to open it. This was rather infuriating, as this left everyone stranded at the Boar's Head (not walking distance to downtown or the corner) with nowhere to go but back to their rooms, or to catch a taxi or uber back to their other hotels. We were also told by our initial wedding coordinator that the suite we booked for our wedding night would be complimentary as we were paying them for the rehearsal dinner; however, the morning after our wedding we were slapped with a hefty bill, and were told that since the coordinator who initially promised us the complimentary suite was no longer with the Boar's Head, they would not honor her offer. We were frustrated to say the least. Overall, the Boar's Head is a beautiful venue with great views, but it was not worth the stress and price for us in the end.
The Boar's Head was a fantastic wedding venue. The staff worked with us throughout the wedding planning process, ensuring that everyone was on the same page for the event. We had a change in wedding coordinator midway through our planning process, and The Boar's Head handled it very well. Both our original wedding planner, Rachel, and her replacement, Sara, are very professional and have clear expertise in this area. We greatly appreciated their assistance in coordinating our wedding, and their support day-of was extremely helpful for dealing with last-minute logistics.
We received many compliments from our guests on the convenience of the location, as most of our guests stayed at the resort and we held both our wedding ceremony and reception on-site. The Willow Tree was a gorgeous venue for the wedding ceremony, and the Original Ballroom was the perfect size for our 100-guest reception. Our guests absolutely loved the brunch buffet, with its incredible variety of both breakfast and lunch foods and beverages.
The only difficulties we encountered were some miscommunications with staff outside of the wedding coordinators. We arranged a golf outing for the day prior to the wedding and tried to reserve one of the golf packages, but the Birdwood golf staff were unfamiliar with the details of the packages and did not follow through with all that was supposed to be included. Similarly, the room block was difficult to set up, and several of our guests were quoted inaccurate rates when trying to book rooms in the block. However, we greatly enjoyed being able to stay in the bridal suite the night of the wedding.
Overall, The Boar's Head is an elegant and gracious venue. I would highly recommend The Boar's Head for weddings in Charlottesville.
We had a fantastic time having our reception at the Boar's Head. Even though our ceremony was held at another location, the Boar's Head allowed us to have a dressing room there for the day, so we were able to dress there, go to our ceremony, and then return for the reception. The venue was absolutely beautiful for photographs, and the food was delicious. The Boar's Head was very easy to work with (even though we were planning from out of state!) and very accommodating. It was great!
We planned for a romantic outdoor wedding at The Boars Head in August by the willow tree - and due to rain - we had the ceremony indoors. What a strike of luck for us! The ceremony was very intimate and romantic - not a dry eye in the group! The candlelight from lanterns we brought created a beautiful glow in the room.
Working with Rachel Ruppert, she saw to every detail including tables with special dietary restrictions. Rachel was a delight to work with and was very responsive as we texted back and forth all day trying to decide if the wedding would be indoors or outdoors.
The food was so delicious - our guests commented over and over that they really enjoyed the food. I highly recommend The Boars Head Inn as a wedding venue - the guests really enjoyed the venue both for room accommodations and the wedding. The bar service was also great. Guests commented that getting drinks at the bar was so easy; and that the servers were so accommodating.
If you plan to host your wedding - be aware that you'll work with Rachel in sales/catering and with another person for rooms. All the planning and details for the wedding ceremony and reception were so easy to navigate. The room situation was not quite as easy. I also wanted to focus on the ceremony rather than the rooms.
Guests did comment that the rooms were gorgeous and the property was so lovely. They loved the location.
For the ceremony itself, we used the arbor and hearth room area and it couldn't have been lovelier! We also used several of the preferred vendors including a lighting vendor which made a tremendous difference in how the room looked and the ambiance that was felt.
There are so many unique areas on the property to have the wedding and especially for taking pictures. The willow tree, the bridge, the hearth room, the patio, and it goes on and on - there are just so many amazing photo opportunities!
In sum, the Boars Head is a great venue: great service; incredible food; beautiful spaces for pictures; romantic ambiance for the wedding/reception; fabulous rooms - what else do you need? The price is great too! HIGHLY recommend.
Beautiful Place, Overall good event. Lack of communication with the planner made planning stressful. Recent Renovation was very nice, can't beat the outdoor space either.
The Boar's Head Inn staff went above and beyond. They were genuinely interested in making our wedding a day to remember.
Beautiful location with gourmet food.
Many of the guests said it was the best wedding venue they had ever visited.
