I will preface this review by saying that my dress was absolutely stunning, but I owe that to Maggie Sottero. The process of getting my dress and subsequent alterations through Bride's Choice was painful.
I had found the dress with my mom on our first visit and returned a few days later with my bridemaids to make a final decision and also pick out their dresses. Z, the owner, proposed that if all my girls ordered their dresses that day and I bought my dress, she would comp the price of my veil and also take $150 (give or take) off the alterations. It was my mistake for not getting this in more clear writing than the sales girls chicken scratch. Of course with an offer like that and already loving the dress, I agreed. I ordered that day, as did my girls.
The way my girls were sized made NO sense. My maid of honor is, at most, a size 8 and they ordered her dress a size 16 because she has large breasts. I can understand that it is easier to remove material than to add it in, but it ruined the shape of the dress when they then had to tailor it in.
What they don't tell you ahead of time is that for bridal alterations, you can ONLY come during week days. They aren't open evenings and they refuse to see you on weekend days because they're too busy. For women that work full time, that is an insane request. Who has the time to take off to do that??
Further, one of my girls called and made an appointment to pick up her dress early one evening right before Christmas. When she arrived, they had already closed. She lives an hour from the shop and had left work early. When she called the next day to find out what happened, they offered no apology and simply said that because things get quiet during the holiday season they had decided to leave early that day even though she had an appointment. They just told her to come in later that day.
So when I finally was able to take time off of work as they weren't willing to accodomate my work schedule, I arrived to find out that they had never ordered my veil, NOR was there any record of which veil I'd chosen OR that I was supposed to be comped a veil. There was some chicken scratch indicating the alteations, but Z argued that normally it's EITHER the alteratinons or the veil, not both. Well, this is not the deal that was proposed when they were trying to sell me the dress. Again, I should have had this in better writing. She finally agreed. Then, instead of ordering the veil I had chosen, she insisted that I take the one that all the brides had been trying on. Seriously?
This is my only negative wedding review. I am certainly not the type of person that enjoys writing negative reviews on the internet of every small thing that doesn't meet their expectations, but as a bride, anything to do with the gown is huge.
