I loved staying at the CanadInn! We rented the Penthouse Suite which had a phenominal view looking over Grand Forks! There is truly no other hotel like it within the city. It was comfortable and so beautiful. I cannot wait to see the pictures from our wedding day that we took in the room while getting ready as I'm sure with the view in the background, it'll be gorgeous!
We looked at several hotels in Grand Forks - but when we saw Canad Inn, we knew it was the place we wanted to have our reception. The entry way was beautiful, and it just felt like you were walking into a glamourous party! The guest/sleeping rooms were beautiful - or anyway the ones we saw that day were. The ballroom (Ambassador C) upstairs was a good size, and with the adjoining room - Upper Playmakers Lounge, we felt it would be the perfect setting for our non-traditional daytime into nighttime wedding. That is where the fairytale ended and the frustration began.
We struggled to connect with staff and ended up doing all the planning by email. We were never offered a tasting of the entrees, so had to base our choice on the way the menu was written. The menu choices were amazing - but the delivery and actual quality were a disaster! Who serves corn on the cob as "chef's choice of vegetable" at a wedding! The wait staff seemed untrained - or at least inexperienced. Food was cold. Service was SLOW. They served the salads before the wedding party even arrived! Then people had to wait almost an hour for their meal to be served.
Details that were discussed (I have emails to prove it) did not happen - like a sound system for the reception. Kind of a big deal. Instead we were given a speaker and a microphone and told to put it by the speaker on our computer. All we got out of that was feedback.
One week before our wedding, the banquet coordinator emailed to to let us know that the wedding planned for the next day (we had a Friday Wedding) needed to get in the ballroom early to set up. We had paid for both rooms for the entire day - but now were being asked to give up half our space for the evening event. We finally gave in, with the stipulation that it would not interfere with our evening gathering. What a nightmare! When we returned to the venue at 5:30 for our evening meal - the group decorating for the next day had all the walk ways blocked, music blaring and people standing around talking, kids running around - CHAOS! I had to ask multiple times to have the hallway cleared so we could get to our evening venue and to have them turn the volume down. The hotel did give us a discount on the room rental rate because we vacated one room - but it really wasn't worth the hassle it caused.
Overall - I would tell people to keep looking. Be diligent. And when you get that funny feeling that something just isn't right - go with your feeling. Find another venue!
they were ok but not very helpfull when we asked for a cart to be brought up to our room when we left
