We had our company Christmas party here. The venue is beautiful. The food was delicious and the service was wonderful.

We hosted a celebratory dinner for our Sales Team (about 12 guests) in the banquet room in October of 2023 and it was absolutely fabulous! So much that our staff requested to return for our all company Christmas party. I knew the food would be ...
incredible as I am a fan of Jesús, but feel it's worth mentioning that having a catered event did not diminish the integrity of the dining experience at all. They have really leaned into the natural elegance of the building with tasteful and simple decor. It is the perfect mix of cozy & classy. As a former event planner, my biggest props must go to the event staff. I have worked with venues all over the region/country and I have never been more pleased with my service experience.

I'll start with the positives because there are many, and the star rating might suggest that this place is terrible. However, the lower rating is due to one significant issue that I wish I had known about before booking this venue for my weddin...

The space is absolutely incredible and stunning. We hosted both our ceremony and reception here, and the venue looked gorgeous, dreamy, and romantic—it shines through in the photos. The Carnegie Library is a truly unique and beautiful hidden gem in Mishawaka. The food was also incredible! Our guests are still raving about how delicious it was, and the price was reasonable compared to other caterers and venues in the area.
The servers and bartenders did a fantastic job. The servers kept the food coming and the reception area clear of dirty plates and empty cups. Despite a delay caused by the photographer changing locations, they flipped the space between the ceremony and reception in a timely manner. The bartender, in particular, went above and beyond with great customer service, often providing things before we even asked.
Now for the constructive feedback, which I hope will help you understand what you're getting into if you choose to book with Carnegie Library. Unfortunately, working with their banquet and event manager, Kate, was nothing short of a nightmare and borderline disaster. If it hadn’t been for her, our wedding would have been flawless, and we would have loved every one of our vendors and our entire experience. Here’s what you need to be aware of when dealing with Kate, especially since you’ll be working with her throughout the entire process:
Her communication skills are non-existent. If she responds to your email, it's guaranteed she won’t fully answer your questions, and she certainly won’t accurately transfer the details to the banquet event order. Don’t be fooled by her seeming attentiveness and detailed note-taking during in-person meetings; she either forgets everything or discards her notes because you’ll have to repeat yourself multiple times, and even then, things won’t be done correctly. The day before our wedding, I arrived to drop off decorations as requested, only to find the doors locked and the space set up incorrectly. We never received an apology for this, only excuses. No help was offered as my bridesmaids and I finished setting up and correcting the mistakes. To top it off, her banquet captain informed us that the floor plan Kate created wouldn’t work in the space.
Another major issue is that Kate doesn’t seem to truly know or understand her own space. She’ll tell you that the venue can fit 130 people with a dance floor, but that’s not true. You can’t fit more than 110 people with a dance floor, and that’s with 10 people per table. Depending on your wedding, this might not be feasible, as the venue has 60-inch rounds, not 72-inch ones, so 8 per table is recommended.
I could go on about the issues and concerns I have with Kate, including her lack of ethics and professionalism, but this review is already longer than I’d like it to be. The point is, if you choose to book this incredible space with its magnificent food, do so with extreme caution because you will need to work with Kate, and she could ruin your entire event. If I was not event manager (which Kate knew and In the middle of the terrible service I was experiencing the weeks leading up to my wedding she took the time to attempt to give me a sales pitch to be a caterer for my place of employment.) myself with a day of coordinator my day would not have gone as Kate promised in our first meeting.
