I reluctantly gave 1 star because in the end (very delayed end) the food was decent. This caterer had horrible communication from the beginning so shame on us for not honing in on that. I will admit we were concerned up to the date of the wedding and are fears were confirmed! The caterer apparently got into an accident on the way to the venue. Although that may be true we were not shown an accident report and her vehicle showed old damage….most importantly she did not communicate to us or the poor guys who were serving….they stated they tried numerous times to call her but she would not answer her calls. They had salads to serve…but no salad dressings. While we did everything we could to hold off our hungry crowd of 180 people (we went into town to buy salad dressing so we could at least serve a salad) my brother did get ahold of the caterer, after many attempts, who very unapologetically said she was in an accident and would be there soon. We served salads with our dressing and an hour later she arrived…angrily and unprofessionally told us she hoped we saved our receipts to return the dressing because she was there now with dressing. As if we should have waited an hour and a half for her. We had to change the evening by doing early speeches, lost time with our photographer and the venue (who both felt so sorry for us) Even her staff told us they were embarrassed and so sorry and would be incredibly upset if it was their event. She was rude, told us we were lucky she wasn’t hurt and that “at least the food had arrived”. She acted angry and slapped the food on plates when she FINALLY did serve the dinner and in the end of the evening aplologized for being short and defensive. No concessions, nothing offered in the way of a discount…just a half hearted sorry for being rude. Please save yourself the stress and uncertainty and stay far away from this caterer. I was told that she used to be a great person to work with several years ago but has definitely changed for whatever reason and is no longer a preferred caterer by our venue.
Rachelle styles herself as a "custom caterer", which originally I thought would mean more $$$. What it really means is that she's able to work with current food pricing and create a menu that is personalized to your wedding without breaking the budget. The food was excellent, and Rachelle had no issues working with the dietary restrictions of some of our guests. There were some bumps along the road, but in the end our reception turned out beautifully, and our guests were very complimentary of the quality and number of options of the food provided - Rachelle is a serious whiz with a menu!
We also utilized Center of the Plate for bartending services, which were excellent, and we hired two security guards through Rachelle's connections as well (required by our venue because alcohol was present). The security was unnoticeable (which was a definite plus), and Rachelle's ability to handle food, drink, and security was greatly appreciated.
We booked Rachelle for my daughter's wedding in May of this year. Due to COVID19 and social distancing orders, we had to postpone the wedding until later in the year. Due to the postponement, we were not able to use the same venue (not dates were available ) and therefore could not use Rachelle at the new venue. When we contacted her, she was snarky and refused to refund our deposit because 'she hadn't worked an event since March'. She is not willing to work with us at all. Would not recommend her at all.
I’ve used COP since Rachelle started the company. We have had at least 3 events with her catering and service, including 2 weddings. We LOVE her food and creativity. I choose her because she is able to create an experience that allows us to relax and enjoy time with friends and family. Her passion for food and flavors is beyond other companies in the area, and her prices are fair and reasonable.
Please give serious consideration to other options before booking COP for your catering needs. Rachelle missed the mark in every category of catering: She was egregiously late (family was still trying to get ahold of her 30 minutes before cocktail hour began… the wedding coordinator had to run to the store to get cheese and crackers because she was so late!), understaffed (she had nearly a year to recruit the proper number of wait staff that we agreed upon), there was not enough food provided for a wedding guest list of 200 people, the food was cold and overcooked, the presentation was terrible and confusing, the food was not served in a timely or logical manner to each table, and she was extremely disrespectful to the wedding venue coordinator and our family who stepped in to try and mitigate the situation. Lucky we have amazing friends and family who were understanding and knew that is not the service we would have ever agreed to. However, I am still embarrassed that the meal is what will stand out in people’s minds. A small refund was granted which should speak to how the day went, but no amount of money is worth the experience we had. Please, spend a little extra money for peace of mind, professionalism, and respect for the biggest day of your life.
The food is average but the people are snarky. Not the kind of energy you want around you on your most important day.
