This is a little late getting out, but we held our wedding at the Chateau on the River last September. Up until the day of the wedding, I would say the coordinators did a decent job of keeping in contact with us and answering our questions. How...ever, the night before our wedding, there was a huge thunderstorm and many parts of the downriver area lost power, including the hotel we were staying at the night before the event. The following morning, I woke up and began to get ready for the most important day of my life - only to receive a phone call (as I was stepping into my dress) from the on-site manager, telling me that they had gotten to the hall at 2pm and we had no power. He told me "you'll have food, since that's prepared offsite, but no music or lights". He also let me know that they DID NOT HAVE A PLAN. I was very upset, but luckily my husband is quick on his feet and called my mother in-law, who lives in the country and happens to have a generator. She brought it with her, and there were technicians at the Chateau to hook it up. The generator was only powerful enough for us to have a very limited amount of lighting (the bathrooms were pitch-black) and music which kept cutting out every time the ice machine kicked on. We had rented moving lights and prepared a slide show of old family photos for the reception which we were completely unable to use. Despite all of this, our guests were very understanding and we all had a good time. However, we felt that since we provided the generator and Chateau on the River did absolutely nothing to help get our event back on track once they found out that there was no power (which I truly believe should have been checked the night before, since half the metro area was without it), we felt that we should be entitled to a portion of our money back. We left on our honeymoon, and were in email communication with Cass, who is some sort of manager. He was unreceptive to the idea that we should receive a partial refund, but I didn't want to let this ruin our trip, so we waited until we got home to call him. This was one of THE WORST phone conversations of my entire life- he was arrogant and rude, and told us that our contract only covered the food and beverages, so we should not have expected there to be electricity. He kept telling us that "he heard the wedding went ok", which was funny since Jerry, the onsite manager, called it a "disaster". We had to argue with this man for almost an hour- he tried to tell us that they had a generator "ready to go" at their warehouse, but it never showed up. Then he told us that schools, churches, and hospitals get first dibs on generators, even though this was a Saturday afternoon. He refused to give us the names and phone numbers of his bosses, and only when we threatened to take legal action did he end the phone call with us to call one of his managers. He called us back shortly to let us know that we would be receiving a small portion of our money back. I still get angry just thinking about the way that Cass treated us after the fact, and find it very financially irresponsible to accept IN TOTAL the payment for a wedding (which, according to the tour we took before we booked it, included ELECTRICITY, a projection screen for photos, etc), when you cannot guarantee that they will be receiving what they paid for. I would not recommend this venue to anyone, and if you have already booked it, I would keep an eye on the weather!
