We got married in Emerald Isle this spring and the first time we met Phyllis was in the winter; we went for a taste test. We were happy with her food, but she was running around like crazy the entire time. After speaking with our wedding planner, she said she was happy to deal with her as long as we were happy with the food.
A few months later we went to Emerald Isle to look at a florist. After meeting with the florist, we were happy until she said that she didn’t like working with Phyllis because she was unprofessional, she always showed up late, and she would yell at her employees. My husband and WP did not like how the florist “threw Phyllis under the bus,” so we went with a different florist and I begged my wedding planner to look into the allegations. My wedding planner spoke with Phyllis and assured us everything would be fine.
A month or two before the wedding we wrote out our “ideal menu” (we did this in the Winter but now that is was closer to time, we wanted to remove a few things and add a few things). Phyllis was good with everything, except one small detail. My husband and I were happy with everything, and then the wedding day came.
The first thing the girl from the realtor company said when she stopped by the house we got married at was, “WHAT DID YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET PHYLLIS HERE ON TIME?” The wedding planner said, “She was here on time and everything looks great.” Everything was great until the end of the night.
Since we had a 7 bedroom beach house rented for the week, many of our friends/bridal party stayed at the house for several nights prior to the wedding. There was TONS AND TONS of beer in the second refrigerator prior to the wedding (to be drunk after the wedding ended so we didn’t have to drive anywhere). The main refrigerator and the bar refrigerator outside (which is where the bar was set up) were EMPTY so Phyllis could use them. ANYWAYS…..during the reception a guest went to the bar to get a beer. He noticed they were servicing a different beer than earlier. When he asked where they got it, they ADMITTED in the OTHER refrigerator. He told them that WAS HIS BEER THAT HE HAS BOUGHT HIMSELF AND THAT WAS NOT THE BEER BROUGHT BY THE CATER. He went and told the bridesmaid (she had also purchased beer and put it in the second frig too) about what happened and she walked inside and discovered HER BEER THAT SHE BOUGHT WAS GONE TOO. They had served OVER 200 TO 300 BEER THAT THEY DIDN’T BRING. The problem was, they told my husband that we owed $200 for beer and wine overage. So they used OUR BEER THAT WE HAD ALREADY BOUGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE AND THEY WANTED US TO PAY FOR IT BECAUSE WE WENT OVER WHAT THEY BOUGHT.
When my husband went to approach her, he caught her putting our food in the BAND’S TRUCK. OUR FOOD THAT WE PAID FOR SHE WAS GIVING AWAY WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION. We didn’t care that the band members ate, we ASKED them too, but NOBODY SHOULD BE GIVING AWAY FOOD THAT WE PAID FOR.
When my husband approached her about giving away the food we paid for, she started YELLING AT US!! We asked her why she was giving it away, and she said she was TOLD TO. We asked by who and she wouldnt say and it should have been my husband or I who gave permission to give food away we paid for. Then the alcohol conflict came up and HER EMPLOYEES ADMITTED THEY GAVE OUT THE OUT THE WRONG BEER THAT WASN’T THEIRS and she still YELLED & wanted $ until we brought in the ppl whose beer she took. So UNPRO
I had looked at many caterers in the area for a small wedding of approximately 30 people. Many catering companies would not even talk to us unless we had at least 50 guests. I had been talking to one caterer who when she was questioned about the pricing quit corresponding with me all together! Phyllis was phenomenol! Not only did she provide us with samples when we met with her, she was also able to provide and or coordinate all the tables, chairs, linens, plates, glasses and servers for the group. She also recommended a fantastic baker. We got rave reviews from all the guests on the food she cooked. I would most certainly reccommend her and use her again! ( the cost per head included all the rentals as well!)
