This review is very difficult for me to write. I’m huge on costumer service, especially when it comes to wedding days and large amounts of money being spent. I was really excited to get married at Clyde. I loved how spacious it is, the industrial vibes, and how many things are included! However, soon after we began working with Clyde’s event coordinator the excitement started to disappear. Toni lacked costumer service skills, and engagement. Almost every ounce of contact and questions had to be initiated by us. She comes off very cold. Throughout the rehearsal dinner planning she continually referred to it as the “grooms dinner,” knowing it was a two bride wedding. We even sent an email asking her to be respectful of the language she uses and refer to it as a rehearsal dinner, she did not acknowledge it nor did she change her language. She continued to call it a grooms dinner until day of. The rehearsal dinner started off rocky, no staff was around to direct or greet us. The dessert came out 50 minutes after it’s scheduled time. For our wedding we had also asked for specialty pride champagne bottles to be ordered and placed on each table. We sent a picture of what it looked like to her. She stated she was able to order this for us. When we arrived at the wedding there were pride bottles we requested on some tables, but the other tables had the transgender colored champagne bottles. (Now this is not a big deal to us because obviously we come from the same community). My issue with it is that if she could not get enough rainbow ones she should have informed us, and asked if we be okay supplementing with the blue, white, and pink bottles. Overall, to us if came off as a lack of education to the LGBTQ community. Clyde looked beautiful and the food was great day of wedding. However, our overall experience was tainted by the lack of customer service which warrants the poor rating.
We had our wedding reception at the Malting Building and the staff was so prompt and helpful! Food is delicious and they ensure they stick to your timeline!
Very reasonably priced, DELICIOUS food, and loved by all of our guests! The warehouse type feel, but in such a romantic way!
We chose to have our wedding at Clyde Iron Works' new building- The Malting Building- and it was the best choice! The building is truly stunning- they put so much thought and attention to detail when designing the venue. Working with Toni and Matt was so easy and they were helpful throughout the whole process- answering questions, letting us drop by to look at the progress of the build, etc. We had lots of flexibility in how we wanted to decorate the building. Our actual wedding day went completely smoothly- largely due to the Clyde staff. Their clear communication and organization helped everything to be exactly as we envisioned it! The food was delicious and timely, all tables/chairs/coat racks/etc. were available as expected, the room flip was incredibly efficient and well done and the staff were patient and professional throughout the entire process. The bar staff were awesome and kept our guests happy all night :) We are still receiving compliments about how delicious and quickly the food was served and how beautiful the venue was! 10000000/10 would recommend!
Clyde Malting Building is beautiful! Great, open space. The industrial feel of the building and woodwork make it cozy and romantic! They are an awesome team to work with!
Had our wedding reception at the Clyde Iron Malting Building (on the same block at the original Clyde Iron) in January. It was BEAUTIFUL- we had so many compliments on the location and food. Food was awesome- the only gripe was my husband and I were the last ones to go through the line and by that time there was not any pork left which was a bummer (despite about 10-15 people not being able to show up from illness/weather). The kids meals were also incorrect, but the kids happily ate the food regardless. They were super responsive with my questions (especially week of) and upfront about costs. We were able to tailor the beer choices to be local beers- which was an awesome touch. We did not have to worry about anything of the details- it was all taken care of. I was on a budget, but had a hard time finding a reasonable place that was also pretty- this was it- look no further!
Very easy to work with. Our wedding went smoothly, the food was ready on time, and the venue was set up correctly. There was some confusion with the difference between the Malting Building and the main Clyde Iron building, however.
Having owned a Duluth, MN based DJ/Photo Booth/Event Lighting company (AT Entertainment) for over 15 years I have been to hundreds of venues throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin, so I knew that when it came time for my own wedding there was only one venue I really wanted (Clyde Iron Works). The space is absolutely gorgeous, the service is outstanding, and my guests are still talking about how great the food was. I would highly recommend Clyde Iron Works for any of your event needs.
Clyde Iron works was absolutely perfect for our big day! Their planning, and flexibility from the start was outstanding. Super accommodating, as well as provided expert insight from other events hosted to help us make the best decisions for our big day. You won't find a better value north of the Twin Cities than Clyde Iron works. Highly Recommended!
The Event Center at Clyde Iron Works was the perfect balance between industrial and elegant for us as a Bride and Groom. We first went to Clyde for a delicious dinner and saw a table tent about weddings while we ate. We said, "Wouldn't it be cool if we got married here?" Fast forward a year and a half, life threw us some curve-balls including a job loss, a move to a new city, and a bit of a whirlwind – but our wedding planning still forged ahead because of Toni, Matt, and the rest of the Clyde staff. They became our extended family as we planned our wedding and enjoyed dinner and drinks at the restaurant. They did EVERYTHING they could to make sure our wedding was beautiful and stress-free. Our guests were "ooohing" and "ahhing" over the historic and unique venue which warmed our hearts on the rainy and chilly May day. The venue had incredible lighting ensuring that our photos were stunning despite the uncooperative weather. Clyde Iron Works will always hold a special place in our hearts. We will also ALWAYS stop by when we are in town.
We had an amazing experience with Clyde Iron Works for our wedding reception venue in Duluth, MN. The venue itself is beautiful with larger windows, brick, and steel pillars. The bistro lights along with the uplights made our evening of dancing and pictures amazing. Toni, the event manager, and Matt the general manager, were both so easy to work with on all the details of the day. The bridal suite was a nice way for us to get ready in the morning and also decorate the venue. The food was very tasty and they worked with us on what we wanted for the meal. The staff was extremely friendly and we received a lot of compliments from all our guest. Would absolutely recommend to any of my friends or family.
Clyde was a beautiful place to get married! Our guests raved about the uniqueness of the venue and how great the food was. The staff there was wonderful to work with. I wish the coordinator, Toni, had been a little more organized and connected with me more while we were planning, because I had to be the question asker and keep everything organized. Other than that, I was thrilled with how everything turned out.
The venue itself was perfect for us! We had a large wedding and wanted a venue where people could space out and not feel crammed while still feeling like a part of the day. It was the perfect balance of elegant and relaxed. The exposed brick, wooden floors, and uplighting were absolutely beautiful in our photos. We received many compliments from our friends and family about the venue and food. However, we planned the wedding from a distance and had a very difficult time communicating with the event manager. She was very unclear (contradicted herself multiple times on what the package included/did not include ), unresponsive, and would not give us clear pricing which was difficult when budgeting for a large party. Of all my vendors-this one was definitely the most stressful to work with. All in all- our day was amazing but if you are planning from a distance- I recommend trying to find a couple week days in your schedule to try to meet face to face (they do not meet on weekends due to events) as emailing was definitely not clear or efficient.
Clyde was absolutely the best! We could not have picked a better venue. The staff far exceeded our expectations and worked to make sure we had the reception of our dreams! We were out of towners but Toni worked with us over the phone and through email to make sure we covered all the details. She was really helpful and always quick to respond. We also received so many compliments from guests about how wonderful the food was and how amazing the staff was.
We had both our ceremony and reception at Clyde and everything went off without a hitch. The food is incredible and the venue is beautiful even with minimal decoration. Countless guests commented on how much they loved our venue!
The event coordinator was helpful and quickly answered all of my questions throughout the process. The venue was also competitively priced and offered a lot of what we were looking for. It's also GORGEOUS. We had many compliments on the look of it. Staff was wonderful, especially the waiters & bartenders.
The downside is that the day of the event there was another event scheduled upstairs. The room for the girls to get ready in is also upstairs so I had to walk through their event when I was ready for pictures. It was awkward for both parties. Also, the chicken was very dry. It didn't taste as good as it did at the tasting. The salmon & butternut squash were good - but the majority of our guests opted for chicken and we had several people mention how overcooked it was.
Super easy to work with, beautiful venue
Had a very poor experience setting up a meeting to view this site. Arrived 15min early to our appointment, found it difficult to talk to someone to notify we arrived. Waited 10-15min after our appoinment time to be stood up and no one came to meet us. Received a phone call about 30min after our appointment time asking where we were, explaining a meeting ran late.
Felt like our time was not important to clyde. Decided to have our wedding and reception elsewhere and have received MUCH better service.
Cannot say enough wonderful things about this venue! The planning, coordinator and day of execution were more than I could have imagined!
We had a great experience with Clyde. We used the venue for both our ceremony and reception. The event manager was very helpful during the planning process and our wedding day went very smooth. We received many complements from our guests about how beautiful the venue was and how great the food was.
We booked Clyde for our wedding reception. They were super flexible and easy to work with. The food was great and bartenders did a great job! Loved everything about working with them. We would highly recommend booking them. Great job and beautiful space!
The venue was absolutely awesome for our reception! Our guests raved about everything - the food, the staff, the bar. The staff was extremely helpful with everything from planning to recommending additional vendors to make the day special. I cannot say enough good things about the venue. Highly recommend!
This location was amazingly beautiful. It was everything we were looking for in the Twin Cities but couldn't find. The price was right, the size was perfect, they could do both a ceremony and a reception, and most of all, it had the exposed brick we love.
The view from the balcony during the ceremony, I was told was amazing. It was fun/great to look down over the decorations and the tables. You can use whatever decorations you want, which was great. We could have open flame, we could hang a back drop for the ceremony and we could hang lights for that backdrop.
They were very accommodating for the Rehearsal and answered all of our questions the day of. It was a little challenging with a wedding the day before to visualize how it would look for the ceremony when it wasn't set up.
The only thing that I would change is the level of service during the social hour and the dinner. Definitely could have used more people. There was a long line for the bar during social hour, so could have used another bartender. It was also pretty slow to get things when you would ask a server (even at the head table). It seemed like they had run out of silverware, or plates for the cake. It took a VERY long time to get silverware to eat the cake at the head table. I also don't think that there was wine service at the tables, it would have been nice for them to pour some of the drinks (champagne, wine, etc.)
The food was great too, especially for the price. we were able to serve steak, walleye, and chicken as options. We were nervous about the steak and how they were going to prepare all of them. But, they were cooked perfectly at Medium Rare.
All in all, it was a great venue. Everything we were looking for. And if the only thing we would change is that they had a couple extra servers on, and that was the only problems, well, then we did pretty great!
I was looking for a venue that had more of the laid back feel, but was still dressy enough for a wedding. I loved this venue! We had our wedding ceremony on one mezzanine, our cocktail hour on the other and reception on the main floor! The staff was great and easy to work with! Everything ran very smoothly thanks to all!
We used Clyde Iron Works for our rehearsal/groom's dinner. Most of our guests were visiting from out of town - so we ended up having a larger group here that spent a couple extra days in Duluth. Melissa, one of the event coordinators, was so great to work with. She helped give lots of ideas of what to do with a larger group and ideas of how to keep the cost down. We had an informal dinner and what a great place to relax and mingle before the big day. So many compliments from guests on the food and the great venue. Would recommend Clyde to anyone!
When I first saw photos of Clyde Iron Works, I knew it was the perfect venue for us. We have a huge invite list (375), and Clyde was able to accommodate. Their food portions are enormous and quite tasty! Compliments on food and venue all night and days following after the wedding!
As a bride... dealing with unresponsive vendors will definitely bring on the anxiety, and I can 100% guarantee you that the staff at Clyde (Dana, Melissa, etc.) will exceed your expectations! Also, they're really flexible which really comes in handy for a bride who lives in the Twin Cities area. We had the most wonderful day there.
Our wedding guests are quite the partiers, and we were able to dance all night long! If you're looking for a fun bartender to keep your guests laughing, request Aram.
Nothing but wonderful things to say about this place-- they truly made this experience wonderful! I owe them so much.
Overall Clyde Iron works is a nice place for a wedding especially if you want to have the ceremony and reception in the same place. In terms of physical space, it's very unique and fun. In terms of service the wait staff was great, however, the Event Coordinator was not the most helpful or timely with responses.
Overall we enjoyed the venue and it was beautiful. We got many compliments on how beautiful it was. Some of the negatives were that they charged us an unexpected 18% service charge over our entire bill. That added an additional 1,000 dollars we weren't expecting to pay as that was never mentioned up until we got the final bill. When I inquired she simply said it was not a gratuity and it was at their discretion. I would have been OK with paying it but the service we got was terrible. Servers were slow to get the food out, they even missed some of the tables including my husband's parent's and siblings with 3 children sitting there. There wasn't enough space on the head table for our entire bridal party and we asked multiple people for help in figuring it out and they all just said they would get the manager (who never came out) so we ended up having to send two of our ushers down to sit at random tables. My mom and some other guests said the chicken was incredibly dry and when we did the tasting it was smothered in a delicious sauce that I noticed was not nearly the same the night of the wedding. My salmon was delicious on the other hand (even though I had to beg the server to give me salmon vs. chicken which is what I ordered). We also sent my cousin there earlier in the day to check the slide show and make sure it all worked so there wouldn't be any problems and it worked fine but the woman that helped him set it up that day, left the sound system on and the battery died so they had to put a new one in which didn't work with the computer so we were delayed about 30 minutes, which delayed our dance, which delayed our photographer and he ended up working an extra 2 hours to get all the pics we wanted so we ended up paying him extra. There were two bartenders, one was super friendly and wonderful. The other bartender was rude to me and some of my guests. We had paid for everyone to have free soda and 4 hours into the night, the bartender tried charging my husband THE GROOM for his soda. We both explained that we paid for free soda and he argued with us for 10 minutes and then went to check it out and said he was sorry, we were right. They did give us 100 dollars off our 3rd keg but at that point it didn't matter because all of our guests that drank pop had paid a lot of money and had mostly left. Clyde also had another wedding going on and early in the evening ran out of all white wine in the entire building. I have a wheat allergy so I was drinking white wine when a friend of mine explained this to the bartender and said I wasn't happy he said, (with a shrug) yeah, that happens." When we addressed all of these concerns with the event coordinator she simply said she heard about that...but didn't do anything. She offered to knock off another 50. Overall the venue is beautiful but the service was terrible and the hidden fees area sneaky way to get more money out of us. It is a great venue and everyone thought it was beautiful so if you know up front that you will be charged an extra 1,000 and service won't be great it is worth it. All of our guests had a good time and that is what matters..we were just disappointed.
Researched this place for our wedding reception. Didn't love the food, but the environment is great!
Staff were awesome and the food was great!
I LOVED my wedding reception site. It was 100% gorgeous and the people were so awesome and helpful. The did all the cleanup for us, gave us a cool little wedding present, and had AMAZing food!
