After looking into almost 50 restaurants in D.C. that were not too far from our wedding venue (initially we wanted walking distance, but that was impossible)we settled on Clyde's. We were looking for a restaurant that would be less formal than our wedding, to distinguish the two events, yet we wanted a place with character. We also wanted a private room, did not want to rent out an entire restaurant and needed a room that could hold up to 150 guests. Clyde's met all of those criteria. The private room upstairs is great, the decor was the complete opposite of our wedding venue and so there was great contrast between the two events. The room is set up to include a full bar so we could have a cocktail hour before proceeding to a sit down dinner. They also have TV screens so we could easily have a slide show. We also had dietary restrictions (need all vegetarian food) and Clyde's rose to the challenge. We had a fabulous tasting about two months before the wedding to finalize the menu and the chef was extremely innovative because he could not really work from their typical menu. The only issue we really had was that the event staff was slow in responding to calls and emails and at the end of the night had promised to call cabs so our guests would not be waiting, but forgot to do so. The waiter staff was wonderful though. Overall it was a great place for a rehearsal dinner.
Clyde's was the prefect setting for our small wedding reception. If you are planning a wedding for less than 100 guests, I would definitely recommend Clyde's. The value is excellent as the price includes a full 3-course meal and use of the room for free. Even with high DC taxes and 20% grautuity you cannot beat the value of choosing this restaurant. The restaurant even set up the room for us completely. I was able to drop all the items off the day before with a seating chart and showed up the day of and everything was set up even better than I could have imagined! The only thing that disappointed me was that the coordinator asked that I provide them with a timeline so that I was able to fit everything into our 3 hour span, but then the coordinator did not follow the timeline. They allowed us to spend too much time eating which unfortunately resulted in very little time for dancing. Overall, I would definitely rate it as the perfect place for someone on a small budget. The food was amazing and the room truly was beautiful and required minimal additional decorations. Total cost for our event was around $2000!
