Cumberland and McKenzie were a dream come true. We couldn't have asked for better service, hospitality, or professionalism if we tried. McKenzie was extremely responsive from my first inquiry through check-out - the day after our wedding. There's no comparison between value you get from Cumberland compared to ~6 hours at near by venues, especially for the price. McKenzie made us feel like family and are happy to have gained a friend from our vendor team. Booking at Cumberland is an unforgettable experience - for you and your guests! Inquire now.
Please, please, please check venue out! Me and my husband got married on October 3, 2020. We almost missed out on this amazing place as the pictures do not do it justice even in the slightest bit. We decided on a whim to go and check Cumberland Estate out but already had another venue on hold. When we went to look at it we knew that this was where we wanted our wedding. You truly don't know how beautiful this place is until you go to look at it. It honestly was the best decision we ever made and made our wedding one to talk about. McKenzie was so accommodating and amazing! She made us feel just like family as did everyone working there did. We visited about 3 times and every single time we fell in love with it more and more. I know how cheesy that sounds but it truly applies to this amazing hidden gem. The price was totally agreeable for what you get! They made us so comfortable and helped so much! The day before our wedding, the groom and groomsman along with our dads had purchased the skeet shooting and they had so much fun. We got to relax and enjoy our time there. It also has airbnb's for 3 other properties, one of which we used for our rehearsal dinner the night before and my parents stayed in for the weekend. I did not have any nerves about my wedding on the day before or the day after. We had been telling our family and friends for MONTHS about this place and I still don't think that they were prepared for how amazing it was. We are known for being the couple like like being extra and over the top and this venue succeeded in making that happen without us having to put in any effort. The best part is you get to make your wedding completely your own. We got to choose any location on the property. We decided to have everyone come up the big driveway at the front of the house then have our wedding behind the house under the magnolias so that everyone could see all around the house. We had the cocktail time is the rose garden the reception tent beside that. I loved having the option to make it how we wanted it. McKenzie worked amazingly with my wedding coordinator and all of my vendors. I truly cannot recommend this place enough or say enough nice things about it. It was the wedding of our dreams and was an amazing weekend there. I wouldn't change our wedding or the venue for anything.
Where do I even begin? I guess let’s start with the most heart breaking part. Mckenzie, at the venue lost my VOWS! I was frozen at the alter. My now husband was prepared and I looked and felt like an idiot. We were promised bistro lights in the parking area behind one of the venues to direct guests where to park. That didn’t happen. Guests were freaking out. We were promised an attendant with the groomsmen, that didn’t happen. They started the wedding about 30 minutes late pushing the entire timeline back. I was promised she would be their the entire night to make sure it went perfect, I’m being told by guests she left before 8pm. Resulting in trash overflowing, confusion with the vendors, and just a hectic night for my husband and myself. It was SO unorganized. Our large floral arrangements were left on the ground instead of in their tins, we provided. Shower was broken. Alarm wasn’t turned off, and we weren’t given a code resulting in the police coming. One of the other staff members yelled at my MIL and mom for being in the house because it was for wedding party only...they are wedding party. we were supposed to have a tour of the property for rehearsal guests. That didn’t happen. We were made a lot of promises that swayed us into picking this venue, even though it was over our budget. Not only resulting in a hectic night, but horrible memories of our wedding/reception. Saying we are heart broken is an understatement. Up until the day of the wedding, it was a complete dream. We felt at home at the venue, until the day of the wedding where everything fell apart, the most important day. Don’t get swayed by the beautiful venue, all of the wonderful things they promise and ability to work with your budget. You will end of regretting it, just like we have!!
Five star facilities and staff. All the houses are well-maintained and well furnished. The grounds are beautiful.
McKenzie was amazing! We stayed at the Moss side Manor and had a small wedding there. McKenzie made sure we were comfortable, all of our needs were met and always responded to any questions we had quickly! She made our day so special for us and we couldn't have been happier.
The Manor was beautiful and spotless! We will definitely be returning in the future
McKenzie was super personable and compassionate about her work. She loves what she does and it shows effortlessly! Very punctual and helpful with any questions we had! Such a beautiful soul and we couldn’t have had a happier experience! Thanks McKenzie 💜
As a vendor, I found the staff to be most accommodating and generous with their time and attention, both personally and via phone/email. The property is quite lovely and McKenzie is efficient and great to work with.
We originally reserved Moss Side Manor and Moss Side Cottage for accommodations for ourselves and some guests for the weekend of our ceremony as the properties are a short drive from the venue we had chosen. Very close to the weekend, we decided we wanted to have our rehearsal dinner at Moss Side Manor so we could have a relaxing gathering with family and friends. McKenzie Gardner, Director of Sales, was wonderful in helping us add this to our reservation and we had exactly the gathering we wanted. Both properties are well kept and their furnishings lovely. The houses are beautiful on the interior and exterior. The grounds are spectacular. From enjoying the gourmet kitchen, to gathering with friends and family, to getting ready in the lovely rooms of Moss Side Manor, to relaxing on the screened in back porch, to walking the grounds as the sun rose, the time spent at these properties was magical. The booking process was simple and efficient. Responses to inquiries was prompt. When I wanted to tour the properties before finalizing the booking, arrangements were speedily made and I was met at the properties and given a tour. McKenzie joined the team in the time between the initial reservation and the weekend of our booking. She is a great addition to the team. She responded quickly when we had questions and was friendly and helpful. Marvelous and magical sum up the time we spent at Moss Side Manor and Moss Side Cottage. I see another weekend in New Kent at Moss Side Manor our future!
Plantation & Hospitality Manager (HM) could have a 5 star rating. However, weddings need certain elements for a venue to be a reliable choice. Here are problems we had with our daughter’s wedding. 1st, when we signed a contract for the Carriage House (CH) we were told that we could use tables upstairs & down. The night before the wedding, we were told no one was allowed upstairs in the CH. It was filled with furniture, weight equipment, etc. We told staff that our contract was for the whole CH. They removed the items & made it available. Grass in the ceremony location was 4 - 6 in. tall, an unacceptable height for a bridal aisle. Men at the rehearsal volunteered to cut the grass. We offered that to the HM. She told us that the Property Manager said the owner would not allow the grass to be cut any shorter. Parking area grass was worse. A property offered for outdoor weddings should provide a reasonable grass height. The owner supposedly hired parking staff that never showed up. Parking was chaos until the HM threw on a raincoat and went out to manage it. Parking has no light for people leaving the venue after dark. It was a rainy day, which everyone made the best of. Our coordinator requested something to mitigate the puddles forming in the tent behind the CH. Unfortunately, the HM was already handling her job & parking so there was no one to help. Someone put down cardboard. It was tacky, but helped. Earlier this year, we had a ceremony location chosen & had to change it because a permanent bench was added to the very spot. We also had a tent planned for behind the CH including a center dance floor. 3 weeks before the wedding we visited & discovered a brick walkway was added that would interfere with the dance floor. A complete bricking of that area would have been an asset, but a walkway added, another obstacle. Constant changes to the property, after ceremony & reception sites were chosen added undue stress. On a positive note, the property is exquisite. The Hospitality Manager is excellent. The House Tours provided during the Hors D’oeuvres hour were a highlight to many. We would choose the venue again, but wanted to express our concerns in hopes of helping the next Bride at Cumberland Plantation.
