D Schuler’s did our wedding on 6/22/24. I was frustrated with the lack of professionalism and expertise on their part. We kept them very informed on our total number of guests, yet they ran out of alcohol during cocktail hour. On the final invoice we saw that even when our guest count increased, they did not increase the total amount of alcohol. You would think that a catering business would know how much alcohol to bring based on a guest count. When we asked about it after the event, they claimed that the groom had confirmed that he wanted 24 bottles of wine, but he never said that. They also had the wrong number of champagne flutes ready for the head table (even though we also kept them informed on that number) and didn’t even have the champagne out in time for the speeches. Our photographer had to ask them to bring it out. Furthermore, they called the groom 30 minutes before the ceremony to confirm the order and ask if the venue had ice. I would not recommend D Schuler’s.
Always super helpful and the bartender was super friendly. Absolutely amazing from start to finish.
As soon as I called D. Schulers I was greeted with awesome customer service. The price wasn't nearly as much as I had expected I thought it was very reasonable. They had great reccomendations for what and how much we needed to serve our guests. They sent me a quote very promptly and always were available and willing to help with any changes I requested. 4 instead of 5 stars only because at the last minute they thought we needed 4 extra bottles which honestly wasn't a big cost but we were tight on funds at the last stretch and would have liked to add them initially. But, the bartender was Great and friendly towards the guests and everyone was happy!
I should have gone with my gut when things first started to go down hill with Schuler’s months before my wedding. My event coordinator would disappear and I would send emails requesting information and find out that I had been reassigned. This happened THREE times during the planning process! I was so upset and eventually brought my concerns to the owner. She attempted to reassure me that turn over happens but actually alienated our working relationship. She was so condescending and when I paid my final invoice she even put “stay in touch” as her sign off. Really??? After months of your staff abandoning me and that’s what you put? Then t the wedding, we had record high heat. I’m talking 97 degrees at an outdoor wedding. We had a paid for a full service bar and we found out just before dinner that they were telling our guests that they wouldn’t give them water. Then when enough people complained they handed them cups and told them to go fill it from the garden hose or inside the bathrooms. I also found out from many guests that they were told they couldn’t throw their cup away and get a new drink because they were low on cups. Not to mention we paid for them to be on site and ready a couple of hours before they actually decided to show. They were scrambling to get champagne on our table for the toast, as we were toasting! This followed by then not allowing us to keep all of the alcohol we were told that we would be allowed to keep afterwards. Stay far far away! Not worth the stress!
Embarrassed and disappointed doesn't begin to explain the sentiment (thankfully) after my wedding and not during the wedding. I must admit, leading up to our big day, the staff including Rebecca and Jane were very helpful, friendly, and willing to answer any questions I had (this is why I gave two stars). However, after the wedding, I realized that there was #1 no glassware and #2 no regular coke at the bar. I knew my drink tasted different (it had Coke zero as a mixer) but I was obviously wrapped up in trying to enjoy my night to investigate further.
I was told from the beginning that glassware would be available for our big day. It was only after the fact that I was told that my venue needed to have a dishwasher. I felt misled as I was assured numerous times that glassware would not be an issue as my venue had a sink and drying racks available.
I was not down at the bar very much during the wedding. However, my mother noted that the bartender (a young man) was on his phone and even found him several times stooping behind the bar to text. Very unprofessional.
Lastly, no regular coca cola at a wedding with liquor? I would have sent someone to pick up 2 liter bottles of Coke so that my guests and I could enjoy our mixed drinks. After the fact, I was told that the company had the right to substitute (i.e. for Coke zero) in the event of ordering mistakes, limited quantities, etc.
After voicing my complaint, very little was done to rectify the situation. I essentially received an email stating an apology and that the bartending staff will be spoken to "go over the situation".
I unfortunately have NEVER felt compelled to give a bad review, but in doing so, I hope to help another future bride prevent any disappointment or embarrassment.
I highly recommend D. Schuler's Fine Wine & Spirits after using them for our bar service at our wedding on 8/5/17. Rebecca was not only a pleasure to work and plan with, but she also was highly knowledgeable and able to answer all my questions. She was able to help me pick a customized beer and wine bar for our wedding that included something everyone would like. My husband was able to pick his favorite craft beer from New Holland Brewery to have at the wedding. Our guests were highly satisfied with the quality and selection, and I felt the services by the Rebecca and the bartenders were top notch. Everyone had a great time, and I can't thank D. Schuler's enough!
Very affordable. Great and clear communication throughout the planning. Rebecca was a pleasure to work with and gave incredibly accurate quantity estimates. Wedding guests were impressed with the two bartenders. If you're getting married in Grand Rapids or the surrounding area, d. schulers should be your first choice!
Super nice to work with for my wedding. Rebecca was very thorough when we met to discuss our bar options. She was able to find a Pinot Grigio Cider for our wedding along with local Michigan Craft beer. The service was excellent.
Rebecca at D. Schuler's was readily available for questions, and helped us pick the perfect bar package for our reception. The bartenders kept the line short throughout the night, and we received great feedback from our guests. I would highly recommend them!
I received quotes from several bar services and D Schulers was the most affordable and by far the best customer service. I spoke with Rebecca through email at catering@dschulers.com. She was incredibly helpful and friendly. She answered a billion of my questions and kept adjusting things on my quote to help get the price down. Very straight forward and open about their pricing system. She even went as far as helping me with finding different venue options. Lol! In the end, sadly, I wasn't able to use them as I selected a venue that has specific bar tenders only. I highly recommend contacting them.
D. Schuler's is great place to turn to if you need to bring in your own beverage provider for your reception. They are already licensed so you don't need to take care of any of that on your end.
Aprille was very willing to provide a number of different quotes for different options, whether it was just beer and wine service, full bar service, or beer and wine with a signature cocktail.
Once we decided which service we wanted, we sat down with Aprille to cover the specifics - were there any special liquors, wines, or beers that we absolutely wanted to have? Any special requests for any wedding attendees?
We were presented with a quote based on this information where we put 50% as a down payment - the balance is finalized and paid on the night of event and is based upon the actual bottles OPENED, not brought to the venue. You get to take all opened bottles (excluding kegs) home with you.
Bartenders were very friendly with all of the guests as well.
Great customer service!
D. Schulers was good to work with. There was some miss communication in the process of preparing for the event and there was an issue the night of the event but they worked very hard to fix the issue.
We shopped around for a bar tending service that could come to our reception venue, since the venue did not have their own liquor license.
Upon choosing D. Schuler's, they helped tweek our list of needs multiple times. Once we got the details set in place at a price that we were comfortable with, it was a piece of cake.
The bart tenders arrived early to setup. They brought everything we needed as far as cups, napkins, ice, portable bar, etc.
D. Schuler's has friendly staff that made us feel safe choosing them and made our guests happy. They kept great communication with us throughout the planning process & also at the reception. With all the craziness being the bride, I thought it was helpful that they made a point to take orders for the head table and deliver it right to us. They checked on us a few times. If it hadn't been for that, I probably wouldn't have had a single drink because I was so caught up with everything else!
Thank you D. Schuler's, you made our wedding complete!
