The owner arrived 45 minutes late to open the doors with no notice. If I had known this was going to happen, I would NOT have rented Dahlonega Market Place for my wedding reception...
. The venue is rented by the hour; I paid for 4 hours, with my reservation starting at 5:00. The owner, Chad, said he would meet us there at 5:00 to let us in. We arrived early and waited for him. After 5:00 I had not seen him or heard from him. I tried calling, no answer. We waited a few more minutes and tried calling again, no answer. My guests were set to arrive at 6:00, and I was panicking, as I had thousands of dollars worth of food, drinks, ice, and decorations wasting away in my car. After 6 calls, 2 voicemails, 2 texts and 1 email, ALL UNANSWERED, Chad showed up at 5:45 and walked up to the door without acknowledging us at all. My husband questioned him and he gave us zero explanation and no apology. Half of my guests had already arrived and were waiting oustide the door with us, and nothing was set up yet because of Chad’s late arrival. *Note: Chad was intoxicated when he arrived. It was only after being pressed that he offered a refund for the first hour, but he still to this day he has never apologized.
I was the designated maid of honor for the bride at the wedding reception this venue hosted and to say the word nightmare is an understatement. Time on the invitations was 6pm and ...
we were told that set up is at 5pm and we had to be cleaned up and out of the doors by 9pm. We obviously show up at 4:30 to prepare unloading and 5pm comes around and the owner “Chad” is no where to be seen. The bride, groom, myself, and multiple other attendees that arrived early to assist with set up were unable to reach the owner. At 5:45p what appeared to be a highly intoxicated “Chad” opened the doors, made a sarcastic joke, and left. I was APPALLED! We were left 15 minutes to decorate a wedding (tables, chairs, photobooth, bar, food, dance floor, music, etc.) and because of the owner we lost time of the reception because we were left with 15 minutes. I read in a review that the owner refunded $200 and played this off on his mother. Taking accountability. You quite literally ruined my best friends reception and you want to give her a half-a** apology and not even half back what she paid for the amount of stress she was put through. There was a clear contract and it was breached. Highly do NOT recommend! Also all the lighting fixtures on the columns are different hues and colors and do not make for uniform photos. The owner was late and the venue was underwhelming and the owners response to everything is almost worse!
We had our rehearsal dinner here and it went off without a hitch! Affordable and wonderful venue. Owner was easy to work with, good communication, and everything was as expected. H...
ighly recommend & would host an event here again!!
Unscrupulous owner. He will cheat you.
Chad is super easy to work with and always answered my emails within minutes. The beauty is that you can bring in all of your own vendors and he does not nickel and dime you for a...
nything. It is very inexpensive to rent. Your guests can walk to their hotel after the reception. we seated 137 guests with a buffet and had a large dance floor. Perfect night!
I'd kind of like to give the venue 4.5 stars, but since that's not an option I'll go the full 5! The only downside is VERY little is included in the space. Really just the tables, ...
chairs and linens, and I brought in other chairs anyway because I wanted something a little higher quality. You even need your caterer to be prepared to provide water! But if you are prepared to bring in all your own stuff, this venue is the absolute perfect backdrop. We had endless compliments about our reception at the Dahlonega Market Place. It was completely charming, romantic, historic and sweet. Everything I dreamed of!
The Market Place is a simply beautiful venue. It was perfect for our afternoon reception! Chad was very friendly and even allowed us to move our decorations in the night before. Th...
e reception hall ended up looking lovely! The highboy tables that were requested were not present on the day of, but we were able to work around this and all in all were very pleased with the venue. If you are looking for a quaint venue in the North Georgia Mountains, I highly recommend The Market Place.
I typically do not write negative reviews, but in this instance I feel it is a must.
My fiancé and are currently in the process of planning a wedding. We saw The Dahlonega Market...
Place online, and we were immediately impressed. It is beautiful.
My fiancé and I scheduled a time to visit the venue, which, by the way, is already very difficult to do. We saw the venue, and it was still pretty though not quite as beautiful as the pictures. There were a few things we did not like. The chairs are cheap, the "bread kitchen" is an absolute disaster, and the overall set up is a bit inconvenient. The owner, Chad, explained that The Dahlonega Market Place is a very common venue for ceremonies and receptions, and that they often do flips from one to the other in very short amounts of time. Great news, I thought, since we wanted no portion of the wedding outside. He gave us a list of vendors, and we said we would talk it over and let him know. The same day, we were so excited that we decided to go ahead and put a deposit down. We did, and though it was not a large deposit, it was money nonetheless. He did not have a set amount we had to pay for a deposit. He did not have a date we had to have the remaining balance paid as long as we paid it by the wedding date. And the biggest warning sign of all, there was no contract... Because of previous reviews I had read, I understood that he was, as they say "laid back," and I assumed all of these things were just a product of his personality. I soon came to realize that this was probably not the case.
If you have ever considered planning a wedding in Dahlonega, PLEASE RECONSIDER. Not only was Chad very unhelpful in our pursuit to come up with a seating plan for the ceremony and other areas, his vendors were very indifferent. He has five preferred caterers, of those five, one was booked, one wanted to charge $50 per person, and the rest were unresponsive even after multiple emails and phone calls. I was told I would receive a call or an email, and no one would ever follow through. It was incredibly frustrating. Vendors not on his list stated that they were uncomfortable catering because the venue space is on the second floor, and there is no elevator. This seemed to be the biggest flaw of the venue considering our DJ also had concerns with getting his equipment up and down a flight of stairs.
ALSO, getting hotel blocks in Dahlonega is an absolute NIGHTMARE. Seriously, it is awful. We started planning our wedding a year out, and almost all of the hotels in Dahlonega were already booked for other weddings.
Overall, the space is pretty. It's rustic, and it's in a great area, but please, brides, save yourself the stress and do not book this venue. Even though there is no contract, we are still unable to get our deposit back, and even still, we have walked away to have the wedding elsewhere. This may be a great space for a reception, but please do not believe Chad when he says you can also pull of a ceremony.
Oh, and by the way, at our new venue, we were able to accomplish in ONE day what we had attempted to accomplish for MONTHS in Dahlonega - caterer, rehearsal dinner venue, multiple room blocks, etc. There ARE venues that are reasonably priced AND helpful. I promise.
We just had our wedding reception here and could not have been happier! Beautiful venue with great connections and very helpful. You will not be disappointed!
Mariana was the most wonderful person to work with. She was beyond helpful and my mother and I both feel that we gained a friend!
