I purchased a promotional package from this vendor from the owner Arturo Duran & his wife Marcela. The venue consists of 3 halls, A, B, & C. My package was "package #1" their basic, but Arturo & Marcela's promotion consisted of Hall A for the wedding + Hall B with a bounce house. The package included the Ballroom rental, tablecloths, overlays & sashes, a decorated honor table (which I never received b/c they tried to resell it to me at a later time), a table for the cake, a sign in table, a gift table, uplighting, 1 event monitor, & cleanup after the event.
I went into contract the moment I gave Arturo Duran my 1st payment on 4/2020, but signed the contract a month later. Due to covid restrictions & curfews for non-essential travel & a medical emergency that rendered me in ICU for 4 months, with kidney failure & 7 months of dialysis, Marcela agreed to 2 date changes with a reasonable $500 fee for the last change.
My fiancee & I finished paying this vendor 8/2021, my event was set for 9/3/2022.
I had contact with Marcela, inquiring about the process for my upcoming event and everything seemed fine until about 7/2022Marcela stops answering my calls,but answers a text saying her husband & her decided to sell the venue and no longer had anything to do with any events. Asked me to follow up with the new owner Alex Estrada.She told me that he had different policies regarding refund for deposits. I reach out & Alex said he isn't returning deposits b/c Marcela & her husband "pocketed the money" & he didn't have money to return to any of their clients. I went back to her and this ensued a game of monkey in the middle. At one point Alex had me in the office while he called Marcela & put her on speaker but asked me to be quiet,it turned into a shouting match between them because neither were willing to give up my $500 deposit.
Finally, Alex agreed to return my deposit but at that very moment cancelled my Hall B, because it was sold for "way too little", a price that the business set & I paid. Alex said he needed money, that he had went ahead & overbooked my event.
He didn't but stated he despised the purchase of the venue at the time he had my contract because he could have made thousands of dollars. He stated he wanted to cancel my event and send me on my way without a refund because at the end of the day, I paid Arturo and Marcela and not him. He also stated that he didn't care if I burned him on FB or elsewhere b/c he had the means of "defending himself."
He said I could give him "at least $900" and he would reinstate Hall B for us. Marcela had told me she no longer had anything to do with the venue, but she was actually still involved. She said she couldn't do anything and she couldn't refund me the money for that hall either. I asked why, but she told me to give him more money so he would reinstate my contract.
My mother was there, but little did I know Alex had taken $1100 from her to reinstate my contract. I was devastated. I signed a contract because my wedding was less than a week away. I was left with no choice, either sign the duplicate contract or lose my mother's $1100.
A day later we went to clean the venue as it was filthy. The floors were sticky. The white curtains were brown. Alex attempted to assault my brother who stepped in to stop him from hitting my mother at one point 2 days before the wedding.
I lost $1600 total because neither of them returned my deposit or let us see Hall B which was paid for twice.
All of our wedding guest were so impressed by how beautiful the venue was. Dallas Event Center is affordable, up to date with spacious rooms to choose from! The staff is personable and makes sure all request are met. I would choose them all over again..Thanks for providing an amazing venue for our wedding!
Make sure everything they tell you is included is written on your contract Marsalis quote me a price with flatware paid full price upfront, Once I looked over everything (which is my fault cause it was a few days later) I realized my flatware was not listed even though we discuss the color of the charger plates napkins etc. She did not write it down. Then when I called her about the flatware being leff off she tried to say we didn't included them in our package and it would be an additional 300 to add it. After my husband and I went back to the venue she gives the I'm human speech and say she don't remember. After going back and forth she says since she didn't remember she would included them but we had to pay 150 for the waitress with lil over a week remaining we paid the additional 150. Rewind to the day of the event room was not ready Marsalis was nowhere to be found and the lady she left in charger didn't speak any English the room wasn't flip my bridesmaids had to arrange tables we rented a Margarita machine that was supposed to be all night which Marsalis said they would keep going (they did not) before the 6o'clock wedding the coordinator went to the venue 3 hrs before the wedding advised them that the machine needed to be hook up so the drinks could freeze. The list goes on but I'm getting Exhausted listing them all... All in all poor customer service poor lack of ownership when things go wrong poor communication skills. beautiful decor very spacious and reasonable price. Wedding 5/17/19

The venue was perfect for our wedding ceremony and reception. The staff was super flexible and helpful. The place was beautiful on our special day. I can't tell you how happy we are that we went with Art and his team. Highly recommended.
