Great space and lovely staff. This venue is a gem among historic wedding venues. Nestled on the fringe of downtown Minneapolis, blending the charm of yesteryears with modern elegance, making it the perfect setting for a memorable wedding. Great space and lovely staff. Delicious food, too!
As a bride, my wedding day at the Day Block Event Center felt like stepping into a storybook–The moment I walked in, I knew this was where I wanted to say "I do." We were allowed to decorate with hanging flowers throughout the space, which really complimented the elegant warehouse style. The stunning windows, exposed brick walls, and romantic café lighting created an atmosphere that felt both intimate and grand. The staff's dedication to bringing our vision to life was unparalleled. Make sure to get rooftop pictures - they will take you up to the roof to get a spectacular picture with the background of the Minneapolis skyline.
Unfortunately I would not recommend Day Block Brewing for your wedding reception. While the value was better compared to a lot of venues, they did not meet our needs. The space doesn’t have much to offer as far as other venues (getting ready suites, decorations, etc), which was fine for our event, but the communication with Day Block through the entire process was awful. It took days, sometimes over a week to get a response. This made the planning process very frustrating. On top of that, they charge an additional $500 fee to bring in an outside caterer. Therefore, we opted for Day Block food (the food is good!) but it was a nightmare. We did buffet style and after the additional service fee (22%) and taxes, we paid an insane amount for food for what we received. They ran out of food day of, leaving nearly 40 of our guests hungry. To avoid this, they placed a tacky sign at the buffet table stating “please only take one” (without our permission)- also not in our contract. Then, they replaced the larger dinner plates with small salad plates to encourage people to eat less. It was mortifying as hosts and so disappointing, especially considering the astronomical price. Additionally, when we asked what the 22% service charge covered, we received a vague answer stating “it covers staff and overhead”. Ultimately we feel cheated, and while the day was still special and memorable, we’re just glad it’s over. If you’re considering using this space for your event, I would advise looking elsewhere.
What a gorgeous space to have our wedding. We really wanted to get married in a historical space with a lot of character and this was it! We were allowed to decorate the way we wanted and bring in our own caterer (Indian) since the brewpub didn't offer that.
We got married in early Fall and took pictures over at the Mill City ruins after our ceremony as well as overlooking the city from the rooftop of Day Block. I appreciated the flexibility and easy going attitude of this place - we had looked at a few older building spaces but this one really felt right! I'd recommend this venue to anyone!
Gorgeous wedding space in Minneapolis! It was the perfect wedding venue for us, with lots of options for decorating the way we wanted to. Chris and Jeff were great to work with and were extremely flexible letting us in early to set up (no charge) and we even got great pictures from the rooftop at sunset!
The venues is flexible when it comes to catering–you can bring in an outside vendor for food, however, we ended up choosing Day Block Brewing as our caterer (the preferred caterer), and they did an amazing job. The food was great, and the beer was even better!
Overall, we had a great experience with Day Block Event Center, and we would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful and unique space for their wedding. We had a guest count of 170, which worked out well.
Great DIY venue
This space is beautiful! We did both our ceremony and reception at Day Block. Chris and Jeff were very helpful throughout the process and accommodating to our vision for our wedding. Our Bartender for the night Jessica was great, everyone loved her! We would certainly recommend Day Block for your wedding. It was also more affordable than many other places we looked at.
Day Block was a wonderful venue for our ceremony and reception. It was more affordable than most venues we looked at and we loved the convenient downtown location. We also used Day Block for catering. I would suggest having no more than 150 people as we had 100 and it felt perfect. The only reason I gave 3 stars was for communication with the main point of contact, it was sometimes a struggle. I would still suggest Day Block to any future couples!
The venue was beautiful and perfect for our day. However, when we first booked our wedding at day block we were working with Brittany, but she ended up leaving and we were working with someone new. He showed up to our wedding in shorts, flip flops and a shirt that said day drinking. We also went through day block for catering and were pleased with our food quality, but only about half the guests got food. Which was very frustrating. After the wedding I asked if there was a survey I could fill out to give feedback I brought this up and asked for some sort of compensation since we paid for our guests to be fed and they didn’t. I then was told they would give me a $50 gift card. After spending thousands of dollars on a reception and not having all of our guests being fed, I thought a $50 gift card was almost a slap in the face. I haven’t heard anything back from them since saying this. As I said the venue is beautiful and we love how our pictures turned out, but the fact that some people didn’t get food has ruined the memories of the beautiful venue and day.
I couldn't have pictured our wedding in another venue. The exposed brick and back balcony made this venue feel romantic and fit our needs and our guests perfectly. DayBlock was very accommodating to all questions and requests that were thrown their way, we even got to sneak up to the roof to take some sunset pictures overlooking the Minneapolis skyline. Day Block was definitely the most affordable option in the downtown area and we are so thankful we chose this venue. Our guests loved how close it was to all the hotels- we didn't even need to provide transportation because everything was walking distance! The venue is also close to the stone arch where my husband and I took our first look photos. I'm so pleased with Dayblock and would recommend this venue to anyone looking in the Minneapolis area!
We could not have been more happy with the way the owners handled the event center during COVID. The space is beautiful with tall ceilings, brink interior, and plenty of natural light. Although we had a smaller wedding the space was perfect for 30-150+. The space made for amazing pictures as well being very convenient for our guests to arrive and our caterers/bartenders to serve. They went above and beyond allowing us to move up our wedding date 24 hrs within 48 hrs notice. We recommend this space for any wedding/reception/event. (They also have great beer downstairs).
We used Day Block for our ceremony, reception, and used their bar services. We picked them primarily because they had an open catering and bar policy and the space is really naturally beautiful. Brittany was our main point of contact and she was responsive to our questions and helped us figure out different options to help the day go smoothly. We ended up renting their first floor auxiliary taproom to move people downstairs during dinner for a cocktail hour and it worked great! It was also really nice that they had tables and chairs we could use for free. The space is beautiful and much more affordable than similar spaces in Minneapolis. We did hire a day-of coordinator to help manage a lot of the details of the day and would recommend others do the same. Also, we were so glad we used their bar services! The selection was great and well priced and the bar tenders managed our rowdy crowd well!
After reading some pretty negative reviews about the venue, I was a bit skeptical to book.
Though there were some negatives, like the point of contact for the venue changed 3 times since I booked, with little or no heads up to me, overall I was pleased with my experience.
The venue was about half the cost of other venues around the Minneapolis Downtown area. Plus they allow you to use an outside caterer (for a fee) and you can bring your own alcohol (as long as you have a licensed bar service serve it).
If you are a DIY type of person, I would recommend this venue, but highly suggest hiring one or two day-of wedding coordinators who know the venue to make sure everything gets set up, so you don't have to worry.
Day Block provides a “very hands” off experience, which is what we were looking for. We were able to bring in our own caterer and bar and that saved us a lot of money. It is a stunning space and they allow you to make it your own. We were sold on all of its natural elements: brick walls, hardwood floors and natural lighting. We had about 125 guests and we all fit pretty comfortably. Their event manager Brittany was really lovely to work with – she was kind and quick to respond to all of our questions. Ethan, the person we worked with on the day of, was very helpful with all of our needs.
We had our wedding and reception at Day Block in September. We couldn't be happier with how it turned out! Day Block staff was very accommodating and helpful. We were able to get in the venue the day before to start setting stuff up for the wedding and reception. We used their catering and bar tending. The food was delicious and the bartender did a great job. The space is beautiful and they helped out with the lighting and decorations which was huge help. We couldn't be happier with how the wedding turned out. Overall a beautiful venue and Day Block staff helped make for an incredible day.
We were pleased with our experience hosting our wedding reception at Day Block Event Center. With its high ceilings, exposed brick, and beams from which to hang Christmas / Edison bulb lights, Day Block is gorgeous and trendy without feeling too stuffy. Its downtown Minneapolis location means it doesn't come cheap, and a lack of staff means you will need to either clean up yourself or hire someone to do it. But there are other ways in which Day Block was a money-saver. Chiefly, they don't charge you to bring in outside vendors, so we were free to save on a more affordable caterer.
Beyond that, there are many wonderful things about Day Block. We loved that it was located right above Day Block Brewing Co., both because we love craft beer and because the full bar downstairs meant guests could get any drink they wanted that wasn't available at our bar. The balcony and cocktail room meant guests weren't all confined to one space, and brought variety to the night. The roof made for an amazing place to take some wedding pictures with the Minneapolis skyline and U.S. Bank Stadium in the background. The Day Block staff we worked with, while not too flexible, were prompt & straightforward. In addition, the presence of a rentable parking lot nearby (through Bobby & Steve's) means guests don't need to scramble for street parking and put themselves at risk of a ticket. Overall, we enjoyed our experience hosting through Day Block and would recommend it to anyone for whom location is a priority.
Dayblock was a perfect location for our brunch reception. The space is beautiful on its own and was such a cozy space. The team is great to work with and the food Dayblock catered was amazing as well! The breakfast sausage gravy....there aren't even words, I would've kept eating if I didn't have to greet guests!
The smaller room off to the side of the main room would be perfect for an intimate ceremony, we got married off site and used that room as a lawn game and photo station room, and it was perfect! We are so happy we went with Dayblock to show our many out of town guests a taste of the MN craft brewery scene in a historic space!
Day Block was an amazing event space to work with. They were so flexible and accommodating, and we were able to get in the venue the day before to start setting stuff up and have a rehearsal. Also, the fact that we could bring in whomever we wanted for a caterer and bartending was a huge savings.
The space is also so beautiful and has so much character that it took very little decorations which was another savings.
Overall a beautiful venue that helped create a beautiful day.
Day Block Event Center was everything we could have wished for in a wedding venue! The wood floors, high ceilings, and exposed brick made for a perfect setting, and did not need much more decorating. We both our ceremony and reception in the space and the multiple rooms made it easy for guests to go from the ceremony, to the cocktail hour in a different room, then back again to the main room for the reception. We had 110 guests and it was the perfect size, I would not recommend trying to fit more than 130-140 guests in this space. Our guests were in awe of the space and loved the urban/rustic feel. Overall, it was the perfect venue for us!
We got married at Day Block earlier this month, and it was absolutely beautiful. I love the space and our guests loved it as well. We had about 125 guests, and I would agree that the max guest count you would want is about 175 here, I cannot imagine fitting 250 in there. It also is a DIY space, but that really worked for us because we brought in our own liquor and had friends bartend so we saved money there. Overall, it was a fantastic space for our wedding and I thought that Cassidy was helpful and quickly responded to my emails, but you would definitely need help for set up and take down either from a caterer or family.
We were married June 24. 2017. After reading the other reviews of this venue, this is what I would say on behalf of me and my spouse:
Day Block is a beautiful, urban space. It's accessible by elevator for the elderly. It's affordable compared to other city options because it is a DIY event. Day Block has tables and chairs, a bar on wheels and that's it. They don't have a refrigerator and do not provide cooler or freezer space for your food. We did it all: brought in appetizers (and coolers), brought in all our own decorations and booze, set up, took down, cleaned up, and even hired someone to take out garbage through out the night (because that's on you, not Day Block). We hired out the parking lot behind the building from another company for $150 (for all day and overnight parking, which we totally recommend for your family/friends), catered in from Brasa, and brought our friend's band in (there's a sound system you can either use your phone to plug into and it plays in both rooms, or the band can have their own set up). Again, DIY. We will say Brasa was fabulous and made it feel like the space came with professional help. From two critical people (both bride and groom) we HIGHLY recommend Brasa's catering services.
The wedding day was an ABSOLUTE success and our friends and family went on about how great it was. We had a small ceremony in the back room and afterwards, seated 150 ish people in the main room. I agree with others - the main room does NOT comfortably fit over 180. We suggest not going over that number. We were also worried about the heat - fortunately we were not married on an extremely hot day. As such, the room temperature wasn't an issue. They do have AC in both the rooms.
With that said, we did not (fortunately) have many hiccups with the venue. Kassie, the worker at the time was responsible and responsive when we signed up. She left midway (Day Block didn't inform us) and yes, there was a delay in communication. Chris (her replacement?) apologized and got back to us and though he's not particularly bubbly, he answered our questions.
The day of, another female worker let us and the photographer up on the roof top (with some stipulations) and even gave me her hair tie when I needed to tie my dress up to make the climb. At the end of the night, she pointed out the things we needed to take care of (which would have been nice if she had helped, but I guess that's not her job?) At least she pointed out things I wouldn't have thought were my responsibility, instead of charging us the week after.
Let me start off by saying, any wedding at Day Block will be beautiful. The day of could not have looked more perfect. The interior is a cool rustic/urban feel and it was amazing. Day Block definitely has its limitations. DO NOT book this place if you have more than around 180 guests. Their website says up to 250 but I have absolutely no idea how that would be possible. We have 165 and the caterers could hardly get between the tables to serve people. We also needed room to accommodate a buffet, the bar, DJ, dessert table, cotton candy machine etc. in the large room. If you are planning anything other than a plated meal, this is not the place for you if you have a group pushing 200. The layout can feel super odd, but once you get a bunch of stuff in it, it works well so don’t be discouraged. The place takes an amazing photograph, just look at it.
I found the staff intermittently helpful, it seemed like they may have needed someone checking each other’s e-mails when they are out of town or a better line of communication on who is responsible for answering what questions, at times it was unclear. Overall, I am not dissatisfied with the level of service they provided. Chris was helpful when we needed him. One of the young ladies who was working there stopped working their halfway through us planning the event, which was not communicated to us. That would have been nice to know, but overall we figured it out.
Parking is a nightmare FYI but we just let our guests know that they would likely be paying and no one said a thing about it. We were very nervous but at the end of the day, it is downtown MPLS, what do you expect? The X-Games also happened to be the same weekend so that kind of was an anomaly that we couldn’t plan for.
The venue was swelteringly hot. The smaller room gets the summer sunset. Our ceremony was at 5pm and I thought I was going to have a heat stroke standing up there. If you are utilizing that room, put up some sort of curtain or sheer situation to make that more bearable. Having said that the entire place seemed like it had an HVAC system that could not keep up with the amount of people in there. I kept telling everyone that if I could have changed anything about the day, it would have been that it was not so hot in there. Full disclosure it was 95 degrees out, but still it should not be an issue to keep indoors cooler than it was.
Overall, I recommend Day Block but you will be stressed if you think you are going to have 250 in that space. It is honestly a beautiful place, just some down sides.
I loved having our wedding at Day Block-- it was exactly what we were looking for. It looks even more gorgeous in person than in the photos, so if you're considering it, you should definitely arrange a walk-through. Cassidy, the current coordinator at Day Block, was hired on halfway through our wedding planning process, and she is so great to work with. She was thorough in making sure we knew what we needed to do and helpful with any questions we had. Overall, I'm so glad we got married at Day Block and would certainly recommend it to others!
BEAUTIFUL VENUE! Flexible package allowed us to bring in our own staff, food and bar. Reasonably priced. Great space that allowed for a lot of creativity in how we planned our day.
The wedding looked AMAZING and we loved the fact that we could have the ceremony and reception back-to-back in the same space. We had 70 people and it was decently full, but I think you could squeeze in nearly double that amount in the reception space by putting tables closer together (you'd have to check with the event staff for an exact capacity).
We were able to save some money on decor by skipping flowers and fancy centerpieces - we paid the venue $600 to string lights on the ceiling, and we brought in our own clocks and candles for the table decorations. It was such a lovely space that we didn't need to do much more. One AMAZING perk is that the open bar charges per person vs per drink served, and that helped us to keep open bar costs more reasonable too.
I will tell you that this venue is NOT easy to communicate with during the planning stages. The venue itself is owned by one company, the catering folks are another company, and the parking lot rental out back was yet another company. We were constantly being told to contact other people with questions, and we had to follow up with people a lot. Just be prepared to send a lot of emails and manage multiple conversations.
Also, this is what I would consider a DIY space. Most venues have event staffers that will help with decorations, signage, musician/dj equipment, audio equipment, etc...this place does NOT help with that stuff. We had to bring in our own mic/speaker for the ceremony, decorate the tables, and help our musicians with sound check. The event planner was not present during any of the set up, so I had to text her with last-minute changes that needed to be made before the wedding began (some chairs were missing, the directional signage was missing, there was a strange odor coming out of the elevator banks, some of the twinkle lights were not turned on, etc...). That's part of the reason that this place is a little more reasonably priced, so I didn't mind too much, but know that you or your family will be "working" a bit more on the morning of your wedding day to ensure that the space is set up and decorated properly.
Super beautiful venue with lots of natural lighting. I loved that you could bring in all your own stuff including your own caterer. It really made it is easy to make it exactly what I wanted it to be. We had about 200 guest and it was a little cramped for dinner with all the round tables but definitely doable. It made it a little difficult that we could not set up until the morning of because there was an event the night before but we were able to get in early enough the morning of to make it work. Over all I would definitely recommend this venue!
Day Block was PERFECT for my husband and I. We had our wedding reception there this past December, and it was so seamless. You can't really find a cooler venue, that you can make your own, for the price - just a fantastic value. Kassie went above and beyond on the day of my wedding to help with the tables and chairs being set-up... previous to the wedding date, she was always easy to get a hold of via phone or email and super responsive to the random questions I reached out with. Very pleased with how everything turned out at Day Block - highly recommend.
My husband and I fell in love with this venue – the location downtown, the exposed brick, and the original wood floors were all exactly what we had been looking for! The flexible space allowed us to host both our reception and ceremony for about 85 people in the same location without having to turn over any rooms, and the ability to use any caterer and bring in our own alcohol was an awesome cost-saver. We did have a few communication issues with the on-site coordinator, but were able to get in to see the space a few times ourselves prior to the event.
Day Block is a beautiful space and the flexibility is great - we were able to hire our own caterer and host our own bar. That's where the good qualities end.
I could go into detail of why we did not enjoy our experience with Day Block, but I'll spare my hands to type it all out. We pretty much felt like they took our money and ran - we had to poke and prod for email responses and received extremely poor service. Not a positive experience when planning a wedding at all.
The Day Block Event Center was the PERFECT venue for our laid-back city wedding. The exposed brick walls, high ceilings and views of downtown made decorating hardly even necessary. The owners (we worked mostly with Chris) were wonderful to work with and very accommodating. Any time we wanted to stop by to take another look, they were more than willing to let us in, and Chris even gave us a great idea for how to do our ceremony. On top of that, tables in various shapes, chairs, high tops and a bar are included in the fee for the space, so we avoided extra costly rentals. Perhaps most important to us, however, was that they allow you to use any caterer you want. Many venues require you to use their caterer or one of three caterers that they've chosen. We really wanted to be able to choose our own caterer, and the Day Block was fine with anyone we wanted to bring in. They also let us set up the day before, so we didn't have much to worry about the day of our wedding. The space worked beautifully for our 150-person wedding, and a month later we are still so thrilled with how it all turned out. I cannot say enough great things about this space and the people who own it.
Day Block is a beautiful space for a wedding and reception! Our ceremony was in the East Room, we moved guests into the South Room for cocktail hour, then back into the East Room for the reception. I recommend having your DJ uplight the brick walls! We absolutely loved that we could select our own caterer and could bring in our own alcohol. Overall it felt a little crowded with 150 guests, but some of that is due to the way we set it up. My "BUT Beware" is in regards to the contract and your deposit. There is an automatic $300 taken out of your deposit if the elevator needs service. This happens when the door is held open for too long. (Usually when your catering company delivers food.) This happened to us and while we read the contract months ago when we signed it, we forgot about it the day of our wedding. I think this is something that should be posted on the elevator or brought to our attention the day of the event. Also, the Day Block staff who was supposed to be available to us during our event was MIA most of the evening, which meant we were tracking him down and asking for garbage bags to be emptied and the bathroom to be picked up.
My wife and I had our wedding on a Sunday, Day Block was very easy to work with!
They provided a lot of communication and were very willing to accommodate us. The price was a great deal, and the venue looked incredible (even before we decorated)
The space is beautiful. High ceilings, bricks walls, lots of windows, and three separate rooms to use. We used one room for the ceremony, one for all the food, and the biggest for the reception. We had about 115 come and it was the perfect size. It didn't feel too big but was small enough for it to feel intimate.
The Pro's:
If you buy event insurance (about $95) you can do whatever you want for food & alcohol so this saves money
It's beautiful, has a lofty feel, & we felt like the perfect size
The building guys were very flexible & since there weren't other events we were able to decorate for 2 days before the wedding
They let us come in on Monday to get the decor & originally we thought we would have to take down things from the ceiling that night & they said they would do it for us so that was an amazing weight off our shoulders
The Con's:
There is no fridge or oven, just a small kitchen with a sink so if you are doing food yourself, it can be tricky
Annoyed we had to pay for tables & chairs even though they already have them there (some places let you use them for free if they have them)
You must remove any food & alcohol leftovers the night of your event
There is no speaker system or any sort & if you want internet access you have to pay $250
The medium sized room actually ended up being too small to seat everyone (can only really do about 100) so everyone stood for our ceremony - not a big deal but it would almost be better if they took down a wall & made it into 2 room total instead of 3
Overall, I would recommend the Day Block. It met our needs perfectly, and the management was easy to work with and flexible. It really is a gorgeous space. Although up front it was one of the most expensive room fees, you save by doing the food & drink on your own - as long as you are up for the work! Check this space out! It's lovely.
We were so thrilled to have our wedding at the DBB! They allowed us to bring in our own caterer and beverages which saved us a great deal of moolah. They have their own tables and chairs to rent (nice chairs), but don't forget to rent linens from an outside vendor! One downfall is that we needed to rent a parking lot down the block for our guests to park. Also, Otherwise, it was wonderful!
This place is great! It is a gorgeous location, very versatile and great to work with. It's a great price for the location and what you get!
