The DFH was the most perfect venue for our rehearsal dinner and ceremony. Every person we worked with was so professional, supportive, and friendly and made the stress of wedding planning melt away. I had the most contact with Alex and Lauren, who were joys to work with. The venue itself is so gorgeous, which also helped mitigate the need to buy more florals and decorations. The hotel rooms were equally as beautiful, accommodating, and cozy. I cannot recommend this venue enough :)
The Foundation Hotel is a gorgeous historic venue with design details that position it in a class of its own. Our wedding party stayed in the venue and we held our leaving brunch in their 5th floor event space with a view of the cityscape. The food was good and was delivered with quality service. The wedding preparation photography turned out to be elegant with The Foundation Secretary Suite as the backdrop. The cornicing and crown molding is beautiful with many further design elements which set the stage for a polished and chic event.
We had just the best experience at the Detroit Foundation Hotel for our “micro” wedding. We had 21 people in the private dining room off the Apparatus Room and everything was gorgeous. The staff were a pleasure to work with and very attentive. I would recommend this venue highly for a similar event. We ended up hanging out in the bar area the rest of the evening since no one wanted to leave.
We used the private room on the 5th floor for our rehearsal dinner. Kelly and the staff at the Foundation Hotel were just fantastic, and the event was just spectacular. The food was excellent, the bar was great, and our servers took great care of the group. I would highly recommend the Foundation for any special event.
After two cancelled weddings, due to COVID, my husband and I stayed the weekend at DFH and stumbled across their event space and felt like it was perfect for us. From the day we booked, to our wedding day, was only about 4 months- so we knew this would be a team effort and we had to work closely together, in a quick manner, as a team. Thankfully, our guests didn’t notice the mishaps that occurred, but point blank, the event staff (office staff) at this hotel is not equipped with the knowledge and experience needed to conduct a successful event.
Cost, before modifications that won’t be discussed, we’re about 19k for 62 people. We ended up staying up until 2am the day of our wedding setting up our own space, as the “event coordinator” didn’t communicate or complete anything (although this was contractually agreed upon). Communication sucked and lacked in many ways constantly. Emails went unanswered for days, or information was communicated incorrectly. Pricing was different from package and quoted contract, which had us always checking their quotes, fixing, and sending back for updates. The Director of Sales (Sydney) was the only person who knew what she was doing and was sadly moved to another area before our wedding (or let go), leaving us completely unaware of the plan for the day. This was never communicated to us, until I asked.
If you plan to have a wedding here, hire a planner because this place isn’t the vibe when it came to a chill wedding approach, like they advertise. They made us feel at ease when we first met them, but once they had our deposit, it all completely changed. We fully believe that was 100% due to incompetent, untrained event office staff. I truly wish the young lady who was now in charge of our wedding day would have treated it as her own. She told us she was newly married and made it seem as though she was passionate about her job. 100%, she dropped the ball leaving myself, my husband, and our families left to pick up the pieces and put this whole event together on our own- from start to finish. Coincidentally, they also removed any tags on their Instagram from our wedding day that we, family, or friends posted. Just a super disappointing experience, especially for two people that were just looking to get married after such a chaotic few years of cancelled dates.
BUT, there’s always a positive side to everything. And these items made up in the moment for all the other “stuff”
PROS: VIEWS! The event space balcony, especially on a beautiful night, is amazing. The windows in the space are incredible at night, as well. Food, event staff, bartenders, servers that evening were——out of this world, so kind, and genuinely happy to be there. The GM also reached out to make things right, which we really appreciate. Hotel staff was bomb, the rooms are great, but even with a group rate - maybe expensive for some. Valet was a good perk. Pictures are cool - (when the bartenders want you there) and it’s a cool downtown vibe.
Overall, we had high hopes and based on our experience and cost overall, I can’t totally recommend this place as a fairy tale wedding space. My hope- they hire experienced business staff that can accommodate the wedding influx they could receive in the coming years. I truly think this place has a lot to offer if they work out their kinks and communication.
The Detroit Foundation Hotel was an amazing venue to have my wedding at! Erin was super helpful through the entire process from setting up a block of rooms right up to my event! Megan who was there, day of was on top of everything which let me focus on my day. Can't say enough good things about this venue!!
