My fiancé and I were recently disrespected by DeVries Jewelers. I’m not sure where to go at this point, but wanted to tell you our story.
We brought in a rose gold ring with a thin band and diamonds around the band and a morganite stone to be... repaired because two stones had fallen out. I also asked them to prepare an appraisal and we supplied them diamonds to fix it. This ring was purchased elsewhere. Dave reviewed it and said no problem, we should have it to you on Wednesday.
I called Wednesday to check and he said they were slammed and it wouldn’t be until the weekend and they would call. Still no call, so I called again. He said they knocked out another stone while cleaning it and have to fix it and it would be ready the following week. I called to pick it up and they said it’s ready. I went in and Dave said I couldn’t take it today because yet again, they knocked out another stone. I also looked at the ring and the band was all misshapen like an oval. I asked why and he said it can get soft when working on it and they will fix it.
My fiancé goes in next day to get it and they give it to us in tissue paper and it’s mishappen still so he asks and they rushed him out. He gives it to me and I notice another stone is missing and it’s still an oval!
He goes back in there this morning and talks to Dave very frustrated with the quality and the fact we still have no appraisal after paying. Dave said it wasn’t made very well, but it is gold. He snatched the ring from my fiancé’s hand and treated him poorly. Another employee walked by and said “maybe you shouldn’t have bought it”. I feel because we purchased it elsewhere online, they looked down upon us and damaged it on purpose. I’m not sure what to do at this point. My fiancé asked for the ring back and a new diamond and we now have this ring that is more damaged than when we gave it to them. They reimbursed us, but I don’t feel a business should run this way. I’ve worked customer service for many years, and I’ve never been treated with such disrespect.
