I was so excited about having my wedding at the Double Tree when I first started looking. The price for the ceremony space and venue space was very reasonable, and they provided the catering as well. Unfortunately the hotel itself was not everything I had hoped it would be. When we arrived, we asked for a cart for our luggage and was told that someone would find one for us. After waiting about 20 minutes, we asked if they had found a cart and were told "Oh, no he couldn't find one." The rooms were nice enough, nothing too fancy but they cost practically an arm and a leg! You would think that a Hilton hotel would come with free breakfast in the mornings but no - that was an additional cost. Want to lay out on the beach and didn't bring a chair or umbrella with you? Sure you can use theirs, but for a fee. The day of my wedding, my family and I had to set everything up in both the ceremony and venue space which I did not mind at all. The problem came when I was told I could set up at anytime that morning but when we tried to set up we found the doors to the rooms locked. When we finally got them open, the venue space had tables still set from a wedding the night before, and the table clothes had sauce on them. I was told that the room would be set-up the way I had talked about with the coordinator. Well my hair and makeup for my party started at about 10:00 so I had to have my groom and step-mother set-up the rest for me (they did everything perfect), while wondering if it would be like I had imagined. While getting our hair and makeup done in my room, it became very hot. It was the end of July and we were in North Carolina, so we figured it was just a combination of that and the curling irons. When my groom and I left the reception to head up to our room at the end of the night, we found our room to be VERY hot and humid. When we went to the front desk we were told the air-conditioning had broke and we would need to switch rooms...after a LONG day of wedding stuff we had to move all of our stuff to an entirely different room! Not only did we receive no apology, but we still had to pay the FULL amount of our stay. The good thing I can say about this venue is that the beach is beautiful and perfect for pictures. The caterer and the waiting staff were absolutely pleasant and lovely to work with. The hotel itself however - well let's just say I will not be staying with them again.
We got married off the boardwalk of where our reception site was. They decorated the site for us and even allowed us to add our own decor to is as well. The Party Manager made thing even easier. we expalined what we wanted and she already had an idea of what we were looking for from an older party she had. It was very helpful that she was knowledgeable about party's and receptions. The food was even better then we had hoped for. They were a little late getting out some of it but it was well worth the wait our guest told us.;The only I would warn any one about is the one lady they left in charge the day of our wedding was very 'nazi' like. They have a bar right outside of the building where our reception was that is part of the hotel where we were and she refused to allow our guests to come into our reception with the drinks they bought there. These guests were also staying at this hotel. Needless to say we all got a few free drinks out of the whole thing. But just beware that there will always be at least one person to try and spoil the day.
