Karisa (Event Coordinator) and the rest of the staff at the Double Tree Hilton in Grand Rapids did and exceptional job. Since we had a winter wedding and there was more availability, Karisa was able to give us her full attention. The Double Tree was really a one stop shop for almost everything we needed. It lifted an enormous burden from us by having just one person to contact to coordinate everything.
We were worried a hotel would be beautiful, but the Double Tree was! They provided up-lighting in house and chair covers through Sitting Pretty (no extra charge) as well as ceiling draping (not free). Having those contacts as part of the hotel takes out a lot of stress in trying to coordinate additional vendors, instead Karisa handled it all. Having all our guests stay at the same place as the reception meant we didn’t have to worry about people getting home. They also allowed us to use the airport shuttle to get the bridal party to the ceremony as well as grandparents, all w/ a driver.
Working w/ Karisa was phenomenal. She set up a timeline to make sure we had everything planned when we should, which made sure we weren’t making all our decisions at the last minute. The chef was very helpful in working w/ us to make sure we loved our menu but weren’t busting our budget. Throughout the entire process Karisa coordinated w/ all the staff at the hotel so we only had to worry about one point of contact. She was able to expand the room block (helped the hotel wasn’t busy). Many guests remarked at how surprised they were at just how kind and accommodating the hotel was. Extending and altering stays w/o upcharges or fuss. Karisa sent us the room block periodically so we knew who was booked.
For the big day, Karisa did all the coordination work w/ hotel staff, our Mistress of Ceremonies (highly recommend appointing someone) and the DJ to make sure everything was where it was supposed to be when. We truly didn’t have anything to worry about w/ the venue on the big day. She worked w/ us to plan the table layouts: where cake/guestbook/wedding favors/head table(s)/DJ/Photobooth/Dance floor/table arrangements would all go. No one had to miss anything to help, w/ proper planning and coordination they were able to set everything up w/ time to spare.
Thanks to all the planning/coordination we were able to enjoy the night uninterrupted. That’s really the most you could ever ask for w/ a venue, and the Double Tree crushed it. The food was superb. It all tasted delicious and all of our guests remarked how impressed they were. The bar packages were great, w/ a lot of ways to manage. Many options for what to provide and how to pay for it. Our guests had a great time, and the bar staff did a tremendous job. No one had any complaints, only more positive feedback!
When the night finally drew to a close the staff made sure to carefully pack up the leftover donuts (we didn’t do cake) for us. They also took good care of all the special wedding stuff we’d brought (cake cutting knife, bride/groom champagne glasses, etc.) and made sure we got it. They were all very kind and courteous the entire weekend. The hotel bar was great and offered a limited menu perfect for snack food when people got into the hotel and to hang out. The Ganders restaurant was great to have for breakfast (we didn’t do a formal brunch) and offers a menu as well as buffet breakfast that were both very good (albeit not free).
Overall, thoroughly impressed and satisfied!
Not very happy with this place. I made an appointment to meet up with Karisa who is the sales manager. She confirmed the the appointment so we went there and was stood up. She didn’t even cancel or try to reschedule us.
Alyssa at DoubleTree was absolutely amazing. She made sure every detail was perfect. The Venue was perfect for us. The food was wonderful, the servers were efficient and kind and the bar person was patient and lovely. The added bonus of being able to stay on site was amazing. After a long long day all we wanted to do was crash, when we arrived in our room there was a beautiful set up and a hand written note from Alyssa congratulating us on our Marriage. It was the perfect ending to the perfect venue and day.
The Hilton was the perfect place for my husband and I to have out reception! Having just changed over to a DoubleTree we felt the accommodations for our guests and the space itself was new, fresh, and beautiful! Working with Alyssa was so easy. She is incredibly professional and VERY on top of everything. I cannot say enough great things about her. She was very helpful in the entire planning process and we felt she went out of her way to make our special day even more special. Perhaps the greatest thing she did for us was on Friday morning (wedding on Saturday) we dropped off all our centerpieces, decorations for the room, cakes, etc. and they set up EVERYTHING for us--the room looked amazing on Saturday. When we looked at other venues that wasn't necessarily included or you had to pay extra. We felt very cared for the entire process! Plus we got discounted rooms for our guests and after the reception they could just walk upstairs instead of having to drive.
Also, I'm gluten free as well as some other family members/guests and they accommodated very nicely for any and all food allergies!
To give a little background, we booked with the Hilton back in September. Over the winter they changed over to DoubleTree. Alyssa, the new events manager, was quick to respond and fix any problems that arose. She even helped us, just two days before the wedding, choose and order chair covers (we didn't think we could afford them but we found the money and thought we'd ask). Through everything she was just fantastic to work with.
Also, the hotel staff were so kind and accommodating to our party. A few were even incredibly helpful and quick to fix the few problems that arose.
Finally, we got quite a few compliments on the food. The chicken was juicy and the cuts of beef were huge and tender. They were also able to take care of a few picky eaters in addition to our vegetarian guests and guests with allergies. (If you ever need a nice date-night place, by the way, Gander's is open to the public and uses all local sources for their food. They also have amazing beer cheese.)
If you book through them, they'll definitely do whatever they can to make you happy and your day run as smoothly as possible.
The Hilton Banquet team, led by Sulema, did a wonderful job coordinating the reception for our wedding. Sulema was easy to communicate with throughout the process and the Hilton team was very receptive to all of our requests throughout the reception. They made sure all of our requests were met and were extremely helpful in planning the reception. The Hilton was a great location for our wedding with family and friends coming in from out of town. The rooms were nice and the hotel gave us a good deal for our guests. The evening was very elegant. Service was great with plenty of servers per table. We had a room coordinator who was available several days before the wedding to help us set up and was there throughout the night. Cake cutting/service was part of the room rental rate, which was also reasonable. The hotel even saved the day with their shuttle service when our limo did not show up to take the bridal party to the church! My girls and I got ready in their presidential suite the day of, which they allowed us to check into early. Sulema and her Hilton team did a great job working with us and exceeded our expectations! This is a nice location, easily accessible from the airport.
I loved having both our wedding and reception at the hilton hotel by the grand rapids airport. The events coordinator, Stacy Johnson, was awesome and made sure everything was perfect for our wedding and helped in great detail with planning. She was always quick to respond to any questions. We also received a hotel discount for our guests which was great because we had many people come in from out of town and out of state. It turned out beautiful. The staff working that night made everything go smoothly and it all turned out just as I would have liked. The food was amazing and we received many compliments on our venue. It has a beautiful courtyard that we took great pictures in. I highly recommend this venue.
The Hilton was wonderful - very friendly staff who coordinated distributing gift bags to our guests; very nice swimming pool for our guests; and the right price!
Overall the Hilton was really great! The food was excellent and the hall was spacious and looked great! However they served the wrong liquor (call instead of premium) for the first hour, but immediately changed it when we informed them ofthe error.
