We had a room block for our February wedding at this hotel, as we got married at Harrington farm and this was one of the closest hotels. They were great! We had booked the presidental suite for my husband and I, but unfortunately a convention was being held there the same weekend, so they had to move us. They gave us 2 conjoining rooms and took out the beds in one, and added tables and chairs, free of charge because of the inconvenience! They were also great with having our guests be on our same floor close to us. & they even surprised my girls and I with a champagne toast and chocolate covered strawberries in the morning while getting ready! They were super accommodating throughout the whole weekend (including putting up with us having guests in our room after the wedding until the early morning!) Not to mention the rooms were extremely clean and spacious!
We had room blocks at the DoubleTree for our wedding in August 2018. We also did our Rehearsal House (aka Happy Hour) there the night before and had some post wedding snacks available as well. The hotel was lovely overall! The rooms, lobby, pool, and bar were all very well decorated and really classy. The bar and pool were great for guests to hang out in before and after events since we had a ton of people coming from out of town. We had a bit of back and forth regarding the room blocks to make sure everything was right and may have had a couple coordination hiccups along the way. Though truthfully, at this point I don't remember what they were. The hotel is one of the few of its caliber in the area so it definitely fills up FAST. Once we had that set, we decided to also get a small room for a happy hour instead of rehearsal dinner, again, due to so many out of town guests, and it went off without a hitch. Drinks, passed apps, and some buffet areas were perfect for what we needed and they were super flexible making changes (Thanks for that one Mom!) We also got their Late Night snacks option in an area off the bar for pizza and chips so anyone coming back from the wedding could easily hang out there. Totally different vibe than the happy hour, but exactly the casual situation we wanted. The rooms were average hotel rooms and our suite wasn't huge, but had enough space for what we needed. My parents also got one and we hosted a half-in-the-hallway pastries and coffee brunch the morning after the wedding before people got on the road. We also had goody bags for each guest. The hotel staff were great about getting all those handed out to our guests and even were open to writing in my parents room number on each pamphlet (for the brunch) since we didn't know it ahead of time.
This hotel was definitely not the cheapest, and we did get a couple comments on that, but for the overall experience, we were so happy with our decision to stay at and have our couple little events at the DoubleTree. The freshly baked warm cookies they give out at the reception desk didn't hurt either!
We had an incredible stay at this Hotel! We were married at Harrington Farm, about 15 min away. The hotel was perfect! They accommodated everything we could have needed! We got ready in their sky view room and it was packed with mirrors, extension cords and plenty of space for the bridal party! We even requested additional mirros and they jumped right into finding some for us! Every staff member was friendly! The room was clean, and we even found champagne and strawberries the night of our wedding! Couldnt have been happier!
I had mixed feelings about the DoubleTree Hotel.
I booked the hotel block for 20 rooms 10 months prior to our wedding date. Blocking the rooms was easy, I was able to speak to the coordinator over the phone and take care of the block paperwork via email.
After booking, I considered using the hotel for our welcome/rehearsal dinner but found that working with the coordinator over pricing and food options was too difficult. It took a long time to hear back from them and had to email multiple times to follow-up on outstanding issues. Ultimately, we decided to skip them and move to a local restaurant to save money and hassle.
My guests had a terrible time booking the hotel. Guests tried to book both with the online code we were provided, and by calling the booking line directly. It seemed that some confusion may have arisen from the central booking center, which was not local to the hotel. We had friends attempt to book the hotel room only to be told we had no rooms left. However, when I asked the coordinator, he said we had multiple rooms left. My fiance and I even called ourselves to verify if we could book a room, and were told there were no rooms left in the hotel, let alone our block. We ended up booking an additional block at another hotel down the street because of all the trouble.
The hotel itself is beautiful. The entrance is beautiful, and the bar/restaurant area has lots of seating. There is also an ATM in the lobby, which is helpful. It gave the feeling of being at a fun event.
When we went to drop off guest bags at the reception desk, we found there we were one of 6 weddings taking place the same weekend. This definitely led to LOTS of wedding guests at the hotel bar later in the evening and even some confusion about wedding welcome bags being given to guests for a different event.
The best comment I have is how helpful the front desk staff was. To save money, we ordered flowers from Costco, which were delivered to the hotel. The hotel staff had no issue accepting the delivery and held it until we were ready.
We stayed in a suite, but the suite definitely had the feel of a business suite. There was a small bar area, but the fridge was empty and not stocked with any drinks at all. I wish they had at least provided bottled water.
Overall, the price for the room was ok for our guests and the hotel was close to our venue. However, for the hassle with guest booking and also working with the coordinator, I would not recommend this to other couples!
This was the hotel we reserved rooms at for our wedding taking place nearby. The staff was very helpful and accommodating throughout the process, including keeping us updated on who had reserved rooms, adding another block of rooms, making changes to reservations and who would be billed for what, and in distributing our welcome bags to our guests (in addition to the hotel’s own delicious chocolate chip cookies). After both the rehearsal dinner and the wedding, the hotel bar provided a great place for continuing the festivities, again with the staff being friendly and accommodating. Most importantly, the rooms were clean and overall it was a great place for our guests to stay near a venue that was a bit isolated otherwise.
We were getting married at Wachusett Mountain and had looked into the Colonial in Gardner but it had significantly higher rates and most of our guests were traveling a good distance so we tried to save them money. We quickly regretted that decision.
Setting up and booking the hotel block, rehearsal dinner, and brunch the morning after our wedding here was nothing but a nightmare. We had to email and call the hotel several times just to get any contract written. When we finally did get a contract, it was for the wrong dates.
After several unsuccessful phone calls, I went in person to book our room and see if we could use our HiltonHhonor points to pay for it. No one at the hotel could give me an answer or knew where I could get help from -- the sales manager advised me to ask customer service who then directed me back to the sales manager. I never received an email confirming our room's reservation and, when I asked for one, was instead sent a list of all of our relatives and friends who had reserved rooms (including us-- so it confirmed we had a room, though wasn't what I had asked for).
My mom was trying to set up the brunch for the morning after and also had a very hard time getting in touch and hearing back from hotel staff. About a month and a half before the wedding, the hotel staff suddenly became very aggressive in responding to her and in asking for a final count for brunch, something we weren't ready to give that far out from the wedding date.
When my husband tried to book our rehearsal dinner, there was a full month's delay between when he emailed questions and the response from the manager.
Once all of our guests got there, everything went smoothly and everyone had an enjoyable night. I think if you're just looking to stay at the hotel for a few nights or a weekend, it is probably fine. However, if you're looking to book or plan anything outside of just staying in one of their rooms, spend the extra money at the Colonial instead.
Initially, I had a great interaction with the person in charge of creating wedding room blocks and was very pleased with the entire process. However, this was short lived when I soon found out that several guests (including my bridesmaids) were having a difficult time booking rooms under the block. First, my bridesmaids were told that they could not have two queen beds, only a king (for four women). This caused them to book a room for only one night, instead of the two that they were planning on. Second, a groomsmen called to book a room and was transferred to a different line where someone took his name and number and told him that they might not be able to book the room but would call him back. They never did. When I called the hotel directly myself, I started to explain the situation and was rudely cut off by the receptionists who thought that I was someone else, because there were "a lot of weddings that weekend." I was also told that my entire block of rooms had been booked, but really only 4 rooms had been booked by my guests.
Things only got worse on the night of the wedding. My entire wedding party returned to the hotel after our reception where we were planning on hanging out in the bar. The bartenders were rude, served me a drink without alcohol (I ordered a vodka sprite), and told me that if a manager asked for my ID (which I accidently forgot in my room) that I would be kicked out. The receptionist that night was also rude to my bridesmaids when they tried checking in to their room, because it was "late," even though the hotel knew it would be a late check-in.
I would not recommend the DoubleTree as a place to go to try to continue the party after your wedding reception. The staff is unfriendly and rude. They made the entire wedding room block process difficult and inconvenient.
