Kara planned my sons graduation party and did a fantastic job. We did not give her too much of a notice and she managed to pull everything off exactly how we wanted it! She made it enjoyable for the kids and the adults, meeting both sides of the families tastes. Great experience would love to work with again in the future.
Kara came in last minute and helped me plan and decorate my twins birthday party. My daughters love The Little Mermaid, so it was all mermaid and under the sea themed. She went above and beyond. Numerous back drops for pictures. Drapery for design. She went as far to even help me find a good place to get a cake to fit the theme; she even surprised me by bringing in giftbags for the kids. My daughters absolutely loved it. I will never go to anyone else. It was perfect. She is so easy to work with. You can tell she actually cares like the party was for her own kids.
All i can say is that she shouldn’t call herself a wedding planner what so ever first she doesn’t have the material and secondly she promises that she can do it all and she can not provide especially with draping. She was hired for my wedding two years prior to the event which you would think would allow her enough time to get everything she needed not in my case. I messaged her she said she charged 150$ for draping above the ceiling or 300$ for the entire reception hall i met with her and she said 2000$ for draping and my chair covers and sashes i agreed and we proceeded she said if i needed table cloths she would order them since she wasn’t doing much to begin with for the wedding other than mainly draping so i said yes order them so i didn’t have to worry about it which i wouldve ordered regardless. I made all my centerpieces by hand and she fell in love with the flower ones she said she’d knock off 750$ off my price if she could keep the 20 centerpieces i agreed because why not and i had no use for them. She later told me she had uplighting which i wanted so i paid her extra for that. The day of the wedding came and i went in for rehearsal and when i saw the draping on my ceiling i was applaud at how horrible it looked it was nothing like we talked about or like the pictures i had shown her. Her name is Kara Johnson by the way. The draping was supposed to be full on three ceilings my doorways were supposed to be draped and the backdrop behind me and my husband was supposed to be covering the entire wall. She didn’t have the correct fabric to begin with she had tulle that was the same for my chair sashes on my ceilings when it came to her doing the backdrop she put up one swoop of purple drape and said that was it when i asked where the rest of it was she claimed that was all and she didn’t have the fabric for it when everything was written in contract. She then tried to use a photo drop stand to shove under the purple with a white curtain on it yes curtain it was atrocious. She then got mad and claimed that my family was threatening her and didn’t want to do any of the draping which she was mainly hired for so i paid 2k for her to literally throw table cloths on and put chair covers on. I ended up spending 1k extra the night before for another event planner to come in and do it properly which she did fantastic. Kara had the nerve to come in Sunday morning after my wedding and took all my center pieces and she took stuff that wasn’t even hers and will not return them she is not a party planner i wouldn’t recommend her to plan anyone’s event yet alone a wedding she is unprepared and has no clue what she is doing. Definitely disappointed with how she played me in the end. She’s a scam.
STAY AWAY! You will be disappointed by her lack of organization, care, or concern. She also claimed centerpieces THAT SHE DID NOT CREATE as her own!! SHADY BUSINESS!
Let me first start off by saying I am 1000% against business shaming. However I want it to be known the type of people you guys would be working with if you get Kara to work for a wedding. My sister hired her wedding planner a year and a half ago (January 2017) and her wedding was on June 23, 2018. We hired Kara Johnson primarily for draping only, my sister designed all her own centerpieces & was more than willing to buy her own table clothes & chair covers except Kara said no she would buy the cloths & covers so we agreed to that. The day before the wedding on Friday when we came in for rehearsal & to decorate the planner came before us & started decorating. The tables looked amazing, from the centerpieces (designed by my sister) to the cloths & chairs covered by Kara. However, when it came to the draping she tried to drape as much as she could but she was extremely unprepared. My sister & her has a SIGNED contract of what was to be done specifically & how the vision of the wedding was designed to be, & in the end Kara proceeded to put up one piece of draping behind the back wall that looked like a shower curtain I could’ve took from my bathroom & hung up myself when the whole thing was supposed to be draped. My sister came in very upset & Kara told her she would do as much as she could to try to do as much as she could with her draping then later came to tell her that she did not have enough draping to finish the product KNOWING she had a year & a half to prepare for this day & didn’t buy enough product. She then sent her mother home to bring CURTAINS to try & finish, after my sister was fed up she called another wedding planner overnight & had to pay extra money to actually drape the wedding the way it was supposed to be done. Kara proceeded to say that she was not going to finish draping the ballroom at all anymore because she didn’t want to be called names & talked bad about & to avoid that situation she said she would leave her drapes for the next morning so if the other lady needed them she could use them. Come the morning of the wedding, we get to the venue to finish decorating & she took ALL of her draping with her none for the other lady to use because she “didn’t need it” regardless if she needed it or not she should’ve valued her words enough to try & make the brides day a little better after already giving her enough stress the night before. Centerpieces that were supposed to be filled with water had to be done by the bridesmaids 3 hours before the wedding & candles had to be lit by workers who had enough on their plate as is because this lady didn’t even show up THEN to do a task she was PAID to complete. In the contract it was agreed that my sister would give her 20 centerpieces or she would have to pay a fine ($750 extra) for not cooperating in the deal so the morning of she took ALL those centerpieces & refused to give them back after not holding up her end of the deal nor did she at least offer to pay off money that she took for a job she was paid to complete but couldn’t. I would never in my life recommend anybody working with this lady because she was absolutely awful & so uncaring and had absolutely no heart toward the bride or her family, extremely disrespectful. If anybody gets this lady to work her wedding their dreams will be crushed & ruined for their big day & they will have to go through extreme amounts of stress and anxiety a day before and day of their wedding that no bride should ever have to go through.
