The duck pond was perfect! It was inexpensive, too. Our wedding was in front of the gazebo with the pond in the background. There really are ducks everywhere. Main concerns- the bathrooms are nasty (the mens the worst) and the womens is further away, so be sure to let guests know how to get there. The tables and chairs are available for rent but have to be turned in at a certain time or you pay extra- which is why we chose to have another company provide the tables and chairs. All in all, everyone at VT Duck Pond were great to work with and were always quick to call or email back. We loved the venue and would recommend it to everyone!
This is a great venue if you love outdoors, and very reasonably priced! It was only $100 total to rent the amphitheater for the rehearsal and ceremony. The amphitheater is a gorgeous place surrounded by trees so it gives a beautiful wooded feel. The chairs were only $0.20 each, which is very low compared to other rental companies in the area, which started at about $3.00 per chair. I was able to get all of my chairs for only $35.
I also had my reception at the duckpond gazebo, which was beautiful. It cost $100 to rent this ($200 total) and tables were $7.00 each.
The staff at War Memorial Chapel (where I booked this through at chapel@vt.edu) was amazing. They helped my plan out the nitty gritty details and were very helpful.
This venue is perfect for an outdoor wedding. Very little decoration is needed because nature takes care of it for you. I would highly recommend the VT Ampitheater for any Hokie who wants an outdoor wedding.
My husband and I got married at the Duck Pond Gazebo at Tech and had our reception in the Old Dominion Ballroom on campus. The planning office was great - you don't have to jump through many hoops to get everything just the way you want (though you have to get an ABC license to have alcohol, fill out a form if you are having a tent, and fill out a form to burn candles or have a bonfire), and it is incredibly affordable. My husband and I fell in love at Tech, and our wedding was totally perfect, even on a strict budget. I highly HIGHLY recommend looking into the Duck Pond Gazebo or Amphitheater, or the ballrooms on campus. If you're a die hard Hokie, or just love beautiful scenery, you can't beat it!
We got married in September 2010 at the Duck Pond Amphitheater at Virginia Tech. This is a very secluded place that most locals dont even know about. It was very inexpensive and Sita Williams with VT event planning was SO great to work with. I recommend this location to anyone! We ended up renting 120 white plastic chairs and the venue (both through VT) for $77.00 Can't beat that, and it was absolutely PERFECT!
