Do not book!! We booked with East Meets West and had to fire them because they were marking up the prices by 30%. When I asked about the up charge, they told me that was a "standard practice among wedding caterers", however once I FIRED them and found Peppers Catering, who are AMAZING and I highly recommend, the "standard 30% up charge on everything" is 100% fake. No other caterer we interviewed had a 30% up charge on anything, and when we met with East Meets West and signed the agreement, there was NO mention that they would charge us 30% on top of regular charges. I had to force them to show me the detailed, itemized quotes after they initially were not going to. I assume they didn't want to show me because they knew what they were doing was a scam. 100% scam. Do not book East Meets West as a caterer unless you want to overpay for everything by at least 30%. They are ripping you off.
Mary at East Meets West is a superstar. She came recommended by a family friend and couldn’t have been a better choice. She made everything so easy to figure out, worked with the chef to come up with a delicious menu that fit our event, and was very helpful in trying to keep us to the budget we had set. In the months leading up to our wedding, Mary helped us vet our timeline, drew up a floor plan and edited it with our feedback, helped organise all of the different bits we were bringing and rented anything else that was needed.
Mary and her team were amazing on the day of the wedding and the ceremony and reception room set up were both perfect. While we were taking photos after the ceremony they had someone bringing us drinks and did a great job checking in throughout the dinner. When someone inevitably dropped a glass on the dance floor they had a handful of people out there immediately and got it cleaned up.
The food itself was also amazing and everyone was raving about it. The hors d’œuvres were great, the cod we had was amazing and people loved the Petsi Pies cake alternative.
We worked with Catherine for our wedding in September 2022. Given the crazy wedding season, she only started getting more hands on in the month leading up to the wedding. Up until then, she was a little less responsive (still responsive though!), but we trusted that we were in good hands. And she and her team did not disappoint! We are really glad to have had the pleasure of working with East Meets West. They listened to our concerns, and worked with us to get the amazing food we wanted with some nods to our cultures. Our friends with food allergies were pleased with their attentiveness to allergies. Also - their tasting room/headquarters is absolutely gorgeous down in the Seaport. We felt like we were in good hands the whole time leading up to our wedding. Catherine and her team were amazing and very detail-oriented on the day. The service was impeccable, and the food was delicious! I would recommend East Meets West to any local friends and family planning a big event.
Any questions?
Displeased with the meal served at my wedding.
East meets west made my daughters wedding a perfect night to remember. Gracious, professional, friendly staff who were a pleasure to work with. Their venue, The Exchange, is a magnificent place to hold a Boston wedding! The food was served so beautifully and was delicious. Lots of compliments from our guests. They will not disappoint!
EMW and Brooke B. were so wonderful. She won me over when I reached out for an initial consult and she offered to coordinate meeting at our venue (Charles River Museum) and walk us through it! The food was our top priority for our wedding and we put a ton of thought into what we wanted to serve, including a family recipe, and Brooke/EMW didn’t even blink. I didn’t have a planner or event coordinator and really didn’t need one, Brooke handled everything and was super responsive and easy to work with. During the event they assigned a member of the serving staff to us as the couple and she was amazing, we got to eat all of the food we put so much effort into and she was always there to bring us a drink amidst the mingling and general chaos. Also, the food — SO. GOOD. I am still dreaming of the Korean bbq tacos we had. Brooke and EMW really made our wedding the dream we had hoped it would be and I can’t recommend them more highly!
Beyond great service. We were very intimidated by the planning process, and Catherine went above and beyond to help, advise, and collaborate with us. We were also very particular about our menu, and they allowed us to customize so many menu items. We would 100% recommend EMW to any couple looking for a Boston caterer!
We had a fabulous experience with EMW. They listened to all of our requests with care and also came up with a fantastically creative way to put all of our ideas together in an even better way than we could’ve thought of on our own. I would hire them again for a wedding or any other large event. They were superb!
WOW!! East Meets West were the most incredible caterers ever! Catherine helped us through the whole process, including a covid postponement and last minute covid cancellations. The entire team, from the tasting to the linen pickings to the actual staff on the day of, was incredible! The food was astounding and every single guest told us how delicious everything was! The desserts and Hors d'oeuvres were flying off the trays! And on top of that, Catherine and our personal attendant (provided by EMW) made sure to keep an eye on my husband and I and make sure we made time to eat and always had a drink or snack! They were amazing and so warm and soothed every one of our anxieties! Additionally, they set up all of our decorations and our place settings, and Catherine even made our signature cocktail signs and table signs. She is amazing and will make your day run extremely smoothly!
Thank you so much Catherine and the whole EMW team for making our day so wonderful!!
We worked with East Meets West because they are affiliated with The Exchange Conference Center in the Boston Seaport. We loved that everything was onsite and we had a coordinator to help us work with the caterer.
For our reception, we had specific ideas about the food we wanted, and EMW more than delivered! We envisioned stations with our favorite foods for dinner, a dessert buffet, and later night snacks.
We got to taste our hor devours and dinner options, and it really got us excited for the big day.
The stations were overflowing with delicious food, and everyone had an option to pick from, including vegan, vegetarian, nut-free, and gluten-free. Our dessert table also featured vegan and gluten-friendly options. For late-night, the caterer humored us with Brooklyn-style egg-creams and cheese pizza. It was perfect!
Everything was delicious and presented beautifully. And the leftovers to take home was a wonderful surprise. We received so many comments on the food, and know our family will be talking about it for years to come!
If I could give them 4.5 stars I would. Overall this is a very professional team, and they deliver a quality service. They created an extremely polished micro wedding experience for 20 of our family members at an Airbnb backyard and they adhered to strict Covid safety measures.
There are just few details that they missed for me that I felt were really important. First we bought a wedding cake, it was on the menu and the coordinator was aware we would be having cake. However it was never served on our wedding night. We were told afterward that they only serve one dessert and due to covid guidelines they could not have a typical walk-up cake station. That would have been helpful to know before we ordered a delicious cake that ended up being mostly decorative. Second I bought champagne for the toasts. The coordinator asked whether to list both champagne and Prosecco on the drink menu and I asked her to just list the Prosecco so we could save champagne for the toasts. It was never served with the toasts and the reason I was given is that they “totally missed” I wanted a champagne toast at each place setting. I don’t know how much more explicit i could have been and it seems like a common request that the coordinator could have asked to clarify if there were any questions. I say this only because those were two details that really mattered to me and I wonder whether those glitches still would have happened if we were having a more expensive large scale event rather than a covid micro wedding.
Again- they are overall a wonderful catering service and having one vendor be responsible for coordinating the rentals as well as the catering took a load off our shoulders. They also did an extremely good job navigating communication with an Airbnb owner who had never hosted an event in his home before and was rather nervous and seen to have an endless supply of questions and concerns. They way they handled that was extremely professional and I’m grateful to them for that. Lastly they managed to do all this on a very abbreviated time scale, since we decided last minute to have a micro wedding before the weather changed and planned the whole thing in 3.5 weeks.
The East Meets West team catered delicious appetizers for our casual spring wedding and were an absolute pleasure to work with front start to finish. Brenda was extremely attentive, communicative, and accommodating of our guests' allergies and dietary restrictions. The guests were raving about the finger food. We can't recommend EMW more highly!
East Meets West was the most professional, accommodating, helpful, and valuable vendor for our October 2017 wedding at the Charles River Museum. We worked closely with Brenda throughout the entire process - from choosing the menu, to selecting linens and flatware, to designing a unique floorplan, to coordinating the wedding cake. Brenda was the go-to person on our wedding day, even offering to coordinate with all the other vendors at the reception.
From the beginning, the East Meets West team listened to our requests for a primarily vegetarian menu, giving us many options during our tasting, and even packaging up all the leftovers for us to enjoy afterwards. They continued this generous spirit throughout our wedding planning process, making themselves available for site visits, coming to our apartment to pick up decorations, and doing all the set-up and clean-up after the wedding.
East Meets West provided incredible service throughout the event, assigning us our own server who gave us appetizers and drinks, and checked up on us throughout the evening. The whole team was an absolute dream to work with. We would highly recommend East Meets West for their attention to detail and professionalism, and thank them for making our dream wedding come true!
Last Spring, my husband and I made the rehearsal dinner for our son and daughter in law at Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum. The catering was done by East Meets West, entirely arranged by Brenda Stern. I cannot speak highly enough of Brenda. She was so unbelievably helpful and efficient, leaving no stone unturned. Our party was over the top and the most joyous evening. We had 100 guests and every single one of them raved about the fabulous party. The food was outstanding and everything ran so smoothly. Cocktail hour was outside on the deck, overlooking the water, and then a lobster feast was served inside for the main course. Arranging the party from New York was a complete challenge for me, however, Brenda was there every minute to make sure it was everything I had hoped for, from table decorations to food- every last detail was accounted for. I highly recommend working with Brenda and East Meets West. People were remarking that this party could have been the actual wedding, that's how fabulous it turned out! A huge, tremendous success and a great time was had by all.
East Meets West Caterting at the Exchange helped produce the perfect day! I could not have asked for more and the staff treated us all like family. I highly recommend this venue for your wedding - especially if you have 100 or less. Perfect view, delicious food, friendly staff and within the expected price range.
Thank you Casey Robinson, Jacqueline, Andrea and all the other staff who supported me on my special day!
I am a bit of of a complicated bride when it comes to food. First, I am dairy and gluten intolerant. Second, my husband and I are total foodies - healthy, adventurous, flavor-seeking foodies. Third, despite having a Cape Cod wedding, I didn't want any of the stereotypical Cape Cod fare (read: no clam chowder!). Our event planner, Brenda Stern, worked with us to ensure our food would reflect our tastes and needs. She was a brilliant advocate for me, ensuring that nearly everything - from adorable and delectable mini fish tacos, to kale salad with smashed avocado dressing, to flat iron steak with chipotle adobo sauce - was gluten and dairy free, as well as impossibly delicious.
In addition, Brenda was a spectacular event planner - she helped us choose tables and linens, helped brainstorm specialty cocktails with us, worked flawlessly with our other vendors, checked in on me the day before the wedding, and was our impromptu wedding planner. I cannot recommend Brenda or East Meets West more highly.
Food and presentation was just fabulous.
We choose East Meets West to cater our 100 person outdoor wedding because they offered professional catering with delicious Indian and western food options. We were delighted with Mary, our catering manager, who oversaw much more than just the catering. Mary and her team took care of rentals, helped us figure out the evening schedule, brought candles, organized everything related to food, alcohol, and guest movement during the evening, recommended garlic spray for the bugs... -- indeed, she acted as a total event planner both in advance and on the day of.
The food was delicious and we had many compliments from guests who were absolutely delighted to have a change from the usual wedding fare.
Mary and East Meets West made planning our wedding a breeze, and fun to plan -- they let us plan the details we cared about (we wanted family style catering, which many other caterers balked at), but took care of the details we didn't care about (Mary recognized that we didn't care about the exact shape of the silverware or plates and ordered all the basic rentals for us).
Thank you to East Meets West for making our wedding a fun and delicious success! We recommend them strongly.
We chose east meets west for our "welcome dinner" the night before our wedding. Mary was absolutely great to work with. She was flexible with my schedule and our budget. She put together the entire reception for 100 people and took off a huge stress from us in terms of planning it. The food was also delicious.
I cannot say enough good things about East Meet West and Phil Surette! Our wedding was in the Berkshires, so they traveled two hours out and they still had amazing attention to detail. We did not have a wedding planner (nor was one provided by the venue), and Phil really stepped up and filled this role. He helped coordinate all of the rentals and so much of the decor. He even brought his own candles to use without our asking. And the food was spectacular! Quality of food was really important to us. We went to several tastings (which were a bit tough to schedule because of how busy EMW is, but they accommodated after some back and forth). The food at the tastings was good but we had some critiques. The food at the wedding was perfect! and beautiful! I can't say enough positive things about this company and Phil. I recommend them without reservation.
