I had the pleasure of working alongside Sorrell as the wedding videographer for a full weekend long lakefront private estate wedding. There was a lot of logistics to juggle and a lot of people to manage, but Sorrell somehow handled it all with grace and a friendly smile. My husband and I worked with Sorrell for over a year and a half leading up to our wedding. Hiring Sorrell was the best decision we made while planning our wedding (save the decision to get married!). She gave us exactly what we needed throughout the planning process and over the course of wedding weekend: space to engage on pieces that were really important to us and complete confidence that she would take care of the rest. We chose a DIY wedding venue, so we had to find vendors for everything (even toilets!). She brought this to life with beautiful table linens, simple furniture and tableware, and incredible partnership with our florist to pull it all together. She created a tent that felt warm and fun. Where to begin with Sorrell! My wedding was this month and I remember watching Sorrell on my wedding day and thinking to myself, “how does she do it all? How does she stay so calm and confident when things go wrong? How does she execute so flawlessly?” Simply put, Sorrell is wonderful to work with and very skilled at what she does. I can’t imagine there is anyone that knows this industry as well as she does and she has really mastered the New England region. She knows everyone and works well with everyone. She has a keen eye for design (I think in a past life she was a designer 😉) and she understands the complexities of events. Our wedding was one of the most challenging (on a private lake property and it was three days long) and she really knew exactly how to make everything fit together so pleasantly. Her staff is also amazing. My family was not easy to deal with and they all handled us well! Lol! The only thing that was complicated for me was that she changed softwares part way through and I didn’t find them super easy to use. Budget management was the only thing that I think could have been a bit better. I definitely needed help keeping the numbers down and they kept climbing, but perhaps that’s what every bride says! Ultimately, I’m so grateful that I got to work with Sorrell and I would recommend her with more than five stars if I could.

Sorrell made our vision of our daughter's wedding a beautiful reality. She generously and graciously worked with me for almost 3 years through several pandemic postponements. Finally we hosted the event of our lives under her guidance . Sorrell is a beautiful force. She provided wonderful vendor connections. All the while she was a calming, capable, compassionate ally. Her elegant sense of style was present in every decision. On the day of the wedding she seamlessly made everything fall into place. It was a thing of beauty to realize that the little details of the day quietly appeared and it allowed us a stress free day of pure joy. Wedding planning teaches you a lot about your relationship with control - how do you take the wheel for one of the most important events of your life? I am naturally a Type A personality and, at worst, can lean into micromanaging. But when my husband and I hired Sorrell, I quickly learned I could take my hands off and cruise. Sorrell is an expert in all things New England wedding - she has a fantastic eye for design and conceptualization in addition to crucial practical knowledge of logistics and local vendors. She truly has it all. We came to Sorrell in early 2020 with some loose design concepts, and she translated our scattered buzz words into a magical winter wedding with fun, theatrical elements that paid homage to mine and my husband's shared interests. Sorrell actualized such a personal and dazzling wedding - one far better than one I could have come up with myself. Sorrell also introduced us to all of our vendors, who blew us away with their stunning work and professionalism, proving that her judgment is also sharp. By the time we arrived at our wedding, I kept telling Sorrell I wasn't sure how all of the elements we talked about for months were going to come together. She kept telling me not to worry, and I believed her. I'm so happy I did, because I was able to relax the morning of my wedding and walk without any nervousness into my ceremony and reception. Sorrell was the best decision we made for our wedding! She was an absolutely pleasure to work with. Words fail to fully capture just how indispensable Sorrell has been to our wedding planning process – and it has been a process! We postponed due to Covid-19 and re-worked our entire outdoor ceremony/cocktail hour 24-hours before due to rain, but we never once had to worry because Sorrell handled everything flawlessly. She even stepped-in during the final months to also help plan our rehearsal/welcome party the night before. Events by Sorrell made my daughter’s dreams of a beautiful destination wedding come true. Her experienced team allowed me to fully enjoy the wedding knowing that inevitable wedding day hiccups would be expertly handled. It rained on the day of the wedding. We loved working with Sorrell! When our original wedding was cancelled due to COVID, Sorrell was kind, understanding, and got right to work; she contacted all of our vendors and scheduled a new date that worked for all of them--we didn't need to find any new vendors because she did this so quickly and efficiently. When I got married, I expected to gain one partner - but with Sorrell, you really get two! Sorrell was with us each step of the journey - and with COVID - ours was not smooth. We went from sending out invitations for our original wedding this August, delaying it until 2021, and then making a last-minute decision to do a micro wedding on August 1st. Needless to say, Sorrell was with us each step of the way. She provided calm guidance, flexibility, a deep knowledge of local venues/vendors, and impeccable professionalism. With Sorrell's help my wife and I were able to put together the wedding of our dreams at her grandmother's farm. The family farm is in the white mountains of New Hampshire and we were living in New York City at the time. Without Sorrell being our boots on the ground, the wedding - that all of guests said was the most fun they had ever attended - would not have been possible. Sorrell rocked our weekend and our whole year planning our wedding! From the beginning Sorrell was easy to talk to, cared about understanding our vision, was flexible and understanding, and was a calming presence. We hired Events by Sorrell a few months before our wedding to help us finalize plans and be there for the day of to make sure everything goes as planned. When I originally started to plan our wedding at my family's home, I couldn't imagine all of the details and elements that would need coordinating. This was a beautiful event at my sister's New Hampshire farmhouse. Sorrell pulled everything together with absolute perfection in every detail.

I really want to write an incredible review because my wedding was absolutely beautiful and ultimately, I can't imagine having had a more perfect day. That said, it wasn't without aggravation. Prior to meeting Sorrell we had extensive communication and she was always responsive via email, which I appreciated because I had a lot of questions (first time bride over here) and needed the guidance. She even coordinated borrowing a vintage Land Rover for the ceremony which was very cool! That said, the day of my rehearsal Sorrell was late because she had a hair appointment that ran over. We were all at the ceremony site and waiting for her when she arrived. The actual rehearsal felt a bit messy, possibly because she was a little out of sorts after rushing to get to us. She forgot what time my ceremony started and also started lining up a ton of family members to formally walk down the aisle when we had already discussed everyone being on site and ready when my dad, MOH, and I pulled up to walk down the aisle. After the rehearsal Sorrell had to sprint (literally) into the venue to start setting up for the dinner, which I felt should have been done before we even started. We had an awkward hour of people rushing around to set up tables, them not being set up correctly, the incorrect candles being used, the runner I bought not being cut to the right length or tied off, not to mention my family jumping in to help Sorrell move everything around. I held it together, but really wanted to say something. Ultimately, it was the guests, the venue, and the food that saved the night so I can't really complain. But the experience made me nervous for how she'd execute my wedding the next day and I was upset she did not even apologize for what happened. I totally understand things happen, but as someone who has worked in customer service for over 10 years, I really value when people own up to things like this, and I might not even be writing this review if she had pulled me aside to talk to me. The ceremony and reception ended up going beautifully and Sorrell even threw in some decorations that I didn't bring. That said there were still a few minor hiccups. She sent me, my dad, and my MOH in a vehicle up to the ceremony site before everyone was in place and ready for us. People were scrambling to get seated and in place as we pulled up. My husband said he didn't even see us pulling up. The tables were again not exact to my layout and I had to tell Sorrell this right before my ceremony. Also, because she used the wrong candles the night before she had to fill in with mismatching candles on the tables. Not a huge deal, but as a bride I worked really hard on the details of my wedding and wanted things to look a certain way. There were also candles that weren't lit. Like I said before, my wedding really was perfect. The venue, the food, the people. It was a dream I wish I could do all over again. Maybe Sorrell was having an off day because I know she prides herself in her work. I just wish she had been a bit more professional when it came to my wedding.

We hired Sorrell to help us with day-of coordination and table design for our intimate wedding in Portsmouth, NH. She was a delight to work with and really came through for us when we decided to change out the furniture at our venue. Without blinking she had a plan and team in place to make my wedding table dreams come true! Sorrell is organized, pleasant, calm, and has a great eye...very important qualities for the person running your special day. We highly recommend her. Thank you Sorrell and team!

Sorrell is outstanding. I don’t even know what it’s like to plan a wedding because she was SUCH a help to us. She made my groom and I feel at ease about everything. Her tools she uses to keep every moving part in order are incredibly helpful resources. Day of, she was a gem. She went above and beyond for my girls and I. Sorrell is amazing! She was the first and the best thing we did for our wedding. We were lucky to have two wedding professionals in the family but, we were still lost with so many options, and Sorrell was key to help us make decisions and get things done. Sorrell Downing is by far the most experienced professional wedding planner who embodies compassion, love for beautiful detail and joy while she works with you. She is an excellent listener. She is able to work with your ideas, offer inspiration and work within your budget. As mother of the bride, all of us including, my daughter, her fiancé, mother of the groom, Sorrell and I, began planning 9 months before the wedding. We met according to Sorrell’s well detailed timeline to prepare for a Sept wedding. She produced remarkable picture story boards with updates as needed, in vivid detail to help us communicate on the details. She was invaluable in every respect including the management and contact with all vendors. We had an especially challenging wedding day moving from the church to a cabin on a hill with only a hose for water. On a strict budget, she brought a dream wedding for my daughter & fiancé- Tent, kitchen, parking attendants, electricity, lights, decorations, flowers, dinner, music & dancing & laughter! It was as if ‘Brigadoon’ came alive on this hilltop after asleep for one hundred years. She was ready for all kinds of contingencies. One special rescue: My daughter’s dress was too long/ shortened it with rescue safety pins!!! It brought such smiles to my daughter’s eyes in that nervous moment. It was a seamless day thanks to her planning and creative thinking. She works tirelessly behind the scenes all those 9 months, the week before the wedding. Sorrell was always pleasant and friendly, but I was very underwhelmed by the planning process. To be transparent, we started working with Sorrell before finding our wedding venue and were using her partial planning services. Sorrell seemed comfortable taking the lead on our venue search, but due to essentially miscommunication and perhaps bad timing, we saw just one venue with Sorrell in the two months that we worked together. We understood we would likely need to upgrade to a fuller level of service as we were ready to rely on Sorrell for a lot of our wedding planning and design, but I felt that we accomplished so little together that we ended up terminating our initial contract. I do think it's worth sharing that, when we cancelled our contract with Sorrell, we were asked to sign a non-disparagement agreement before we could get a portion of our deposit back. It felt wrong to be asked to sign another agreement after terminating services and she confirmed it was not legally required. I was excited to work with Sorrell based on the reviews here and it is frustrating to find out they may be censored by non-disparagement agreements.

Can’t say enough about working with Sorrell for our wedding. Picking a venue that required us to bring in all vendors for the weekend was a bit daunting, so we knew we needed a planner’s help. For us, we wanted someone who was going to have strong relationships with vendors in the area, and know exactly who I needed to hire and what we needed for the day. Sorrell was that and more! I can’t imagine all of the details I would have overlooked if I didn’t have her help and guidance. She did an amazing job helping our wedding come to life, and really emphasized making sure things ran smoothly on the wedding day. I have always followed the motto, if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all. It’s been over a year since we hired Sorrel as our day of coordinator for our wedding. I feel as though I have to warn future brides, “brides beware”. Sorrell was my most challenging vendor I worked with throughout the wedding planning process despite hiring her to ease some of the wedding planning stress, she did just the opposite. Just a few examples: 1. Our first meeting – she didn’t show after my parents driving 3 + hours to meet her. She got a flat tire and sent a message at the time we were supposed to meet (with my parents with me waiting). 2. Rentals – after confirming a rental (an essential part of our ceremony) from Sorrell multiple times, she later advised she the specific rental was not in good shape and couldn’t be used. Leaving us to scramble for another rental. 3. Day of planner – left the wedding around 10pm …. our wedding went to 12:30pm. It just seemed inherent that a Day of planner would stay to the end of the night? She missed the sparkler send-off…. Which unfortunately we didn’t have enough lighters to light the sparklers. A planner would have been a good person to have at that moment, right? 4. She left after haphazerdly tossing out the late night snacks. At the end of the night I randomly met up with my mother by the snacks to find the individually wrapped cookies thrown onto our display. My mom was pissed we spent a lot of money on those cookies! 5. The biggie! She kept messing up the photo check list…. I sent her the list of people in each family photo group. I think her ability to copy/paste is nonexistent. On the wedding day the photographer ultimately utilized Sorrel’s photo list – which caused me to make adjustments throughout the family taking process. I could go on… ...but....honestly, please beware. Of every single vendor I used on our wedding day. Sorrel was by far the most challenging to work with.

Sorrell is the missing piece we did not know we were looking for! She brings to the table her many years of experience and design expertise and turns thoughts and ideas into a gorgeous reality. Sorrell is easy to work with and a pleasure to get to know! After our first face-to-face design meeting, my now husband and I, knew we had made the best decision we could have made for our wedding planning and day of coordination. We worked with Sorrell to plan our wedding back in June of this year. I originally had no idea exactly how to navigate the whole process and I had just been gathering information from various wedding websites. Of all the vendors we hired, the best decision we possibly could have made was to hire Sorrell. She helped us to streamline the process and went above and beyond to make our day absolutely perfect. She didn’t bat an eye when we had to move our ceremony location to a completely new venue with only weeks to spare! I was completely stress free on the day of our wedding, and this was all thanks to Sorrell and her incredibly positive attitude and insane attention to detail. I promise you this will be the best money you spend!

We used Events by Sorrell for our day of coordination as well as rehearsal coordination and dinner set up. Every wedding has its hiccups and even through the stress that came with our wedding weekend, Sorrell always had a smile on her face. When I had time to reflect after the wedding, I realized how important it was for her to not let me see her stressed under the circumstances so I wouldn’t stress. The stress we had was due to another vendor not pulling its own weight and Sorrell was happy to step up and go the extra mile to get the job done. She had a great attitude the entire weekend. Sorrell and her team worked very hard to pull off our wedding weekend and I would highly recommend her services! Sorrell is someone you can rely on to be there for you on the big day. She also has a lot of experience and pointers! I got a lot of helpful tips throughout the planning process even though we didn’t pay for her planning services. If I could do it all over again, I definitely would have used her planning services as well as day of coordination.

I would not recommend Events by Sorrell. Upon contact she admitted she had *never* written up a proposal for services to be rendered nor did she provide an accurate description of her role. When I told her my wedding date she said she was available but then later told me she would actually be attending her friends wedding and would send her assistant for an additional fee. I found working with Sorrell difficult. When we received the "proposal" for decor, not only was is completely out of budget, but the layout for the venue was completely wrong. I wasted a lot of time emailing back and forth to ultimately decide not to work with Sorrell. If you're looking for a wedding planner, I would [seriously] consider someone else.

The best advice I could offer any couple planning a wedding is to call Sorrell! When we first started the planning process, I thought "I can handle this whole planning thing myself". Wow was I wrong! I hadn’t realized how overwhelming it could be with so much information out there. Calling Sorrell was the best thing I did and from day one of meeting Sorrell, I knew our wedding was in excellent hands! Sorrell’s encouraging and personal approach to wedding planning ensured our special day incorporated all of the important aspects we were looking for – elegance, seamless coordination, and best-of beauty and service for our guests. In the countless decision you have to make as a bride, Sorrell guided us through tough budgetary decisions, finding vendors who could execute our complex vision to sheer excellence (we had a secret garden theme), and the sometimes difficult to navigate familial dynamics of our guests. Her ability to be our advocate, trusted advisor, and confidante was bar-none! Sorrell becomes more than your wedding planner, she becomes your friend in some of the most intimate moments of your life! We can’t imagine what our wedding would have been without her expertise and guidance. During our wedding day, we knew we were in excellent hands knowing that Sorrell was taking care of all of the details so that we could focus on the occasion and be in the moment. She truly is also, just the nicest person you will ever work with and has the experience and talent to make your wedding beyond what you could have imagined! To this day, our guests are still amazed at how seamlessly the events were conducted and the attention to all of the details for them. Sorrell ensures that everything your guests see, hear, and do are thought of throughout the entire planning process. Most of all, Sorrell helped me to stay prioritized, organized, and sane! We look forward to working with Sorrell again for other events in our lives and I can’t recommend her enough to future couples!

Sorrell was very affordable and she provided me exactly what I needed. I requested a day-of wedding planner and she came to my rehearsal too to run through some things. She kept in contact via e-mail, which was nice. She asked a lot of questions and caught on to my theme quickly. Our personalities meshed well together and she was happy to go along with anything I wanted. She also even brought a few items of her own to use and didn't charge me rental fees which was great since everyone in the wedding industry likes to do that. I love that her husband came along with her to help out too. He was very nice. I would recommend her.

Sorrell was helpful with planning our wedding in everyway. She was responsive to any text, call, or e-mail I sent. She made our day become what we had imagined, and then some! I would suggest her as a planner to anyone. Truly enjoyable to work with and made our day wonderful!

I started planning my wedding a year and a half in advance knowing I wanted to do it all myself. I managed to do everything however, I started getting nervous about "What am I going to do on the wedding day? I can't be behind the secenes and the star of the show!" So, I contacted Sorrell and she totally understood my wedding plan and gave me wonderful advice for some of the details. I hired her for the "Day of" and it was the BEST THING I DID! She is amazing at making sure my plan remained the way I wanted it and that my guests were enjoying themselves. I sent her pictures of how I wanted all the tables to look on wedding day and she made sure they looked the same way! She helped me out with my apps for cocktail hour and made and emergency beer run. Events by Sorrell really tied my perfect day up. She hit the details I overlooked and she made sure I didn't have to worry about anything. THANK YOU!!!!

It was a very windy day, and the reception was outdoors. Sorrell not only managed to keep the table decorations in place but also kept everything beautiful throughout the evening! Her ability to improvise, her organizational skills, and the special care she takes to ensure that your day of celebration is successful is exceptional.
