Michelle and her staff are the very best!!!! She just catered, helped plan, coordinate and manage my daughter’s fairly large wedding at Tennessee Riverplace. It perfect! She curated a menu from the couple’s favorite foods. We had passed appetizers at the cocktail hour and a multi course family style sit down dinner for 200 that guests have raved about! She helped pick out all of the tableware, silverware, glassware and linens. They were beautiful and coordinated with the rentals for our venue. Events With Taste also staffed the bar and mixed delicious drinks. She was like a wedding coordinator in so many ways. Besides having the most delicious food, and the friendliest and professional staff, they set and reset our tables three times because of an unpredicted rain that blew through the hour before the outdoor wedding multiple times and they still served the food and drinks as if nothing had happened to a gorgeous table setting they lit with hundreds of candles. They did it all. I have been to so many events that EWT has catered and the food is always so delicious and beautifully prepared and professionally staffed. What I did not know and was so happy to learn through this wedding process was how many other services EWT provides - so many choices of china, chargers, silverware, glassware, linens, etc.
We were so excited to work with them. Their menu was amazing and personalized. We even were willing to go over our budget to work with them. I agree with others that the communication could be better. We’re an out of town couple and are scheduling tastings for our trip up to meet with vendors. They said they don’t schedule tasting. We didn’t feel comfortable contracting with someone (especially for 5K) before knowing what we were getting. Ted seemed unbothered and said okay. Disappointed that they didn’t even seem willing to work with us. Also after seeing the response to the previous review, I’m happy with aren’t going with that. That’s no way to speak/respond to someone in such a condescending tone.
Michelle and her husband, Tim Wells, are ultimately non-communicative which lead to many misunderstandings for the duration of our experience with them. EWT was referred to us by our wedding coordinator and upon initial contact, things were great. EWT created a customized menu for us, but once the menu was delivered to us communication quickly diminished. Due to Ted’s condescending and unprofessional conversation skills, communication shifted to his wife, Michelle. Despite reaching out directly to Michelle, she did not respond to us (bride or groom) but instead communicated through our wedding coordinator. Not only was communication lacking and the ultimate reason our contract was voided TEN DAYS before our wedding, but Michelle absolutely penny pinched us over almost everything. Despite paying $500 deposit, we were told we needed to pay $100 to TASTE food. Additionally, we asked for inventory sheet to select linens, china, etc. but we never received anything. We elected to rent these items from other vendors, and this was told to Michelle. About 30 days out from the wedding, I began asking for our final invoice. After almost 3 weeks, Michelle finally sends our invoice and charged us $500 for the “full-service rentals” we told them to remove. When asked she said we did not tell her this, therefore we would be charged the $500. In addition to text messages, we have voice messages confirming EWT was made aware of this elimination from our proposal. When my husband emailed Michelle and told her that it was unprofessional to charge us for services she will not be providing, she told us she would void our contract and send back our $500 non-refundable deposit TEN DAYS BEFORE OUR WEDDING. This conversation took place on a Friday, during the work day and Michelle said she would give us until 5pm to give her a decision…the same person that took three weeks to email us our final invoice. Since it was the weekend, contacting a new caterer was virtually impossible and it wasn’t until Monday, ONE WEEK before our wedding that we were able to contact a new caterer. We are appreciative that Michelle did return our $500 non-refundable deposit which is why we gave EWT two stars. Ultimately, beware of the “curb appeal” that this company has. The fancy food questionnaire and customized menu are nice, but the foundation of this company is unprofessional.
If you've been checking out Events with Taste, it is probably because you have heard that everybody raves about their food. And that's because it is one thousand percent rave worthy. We had braised chicken, beef tenderloin, and gluten free butternut squash ravioli as our main entrees, along with lots of sides and apps. My dad and brother, red-meat-'til-you-drop kind of guys, said their favorite was the chicken. My grandma is a salmon fan, and yet she couldn't stop raving about the melt-in-your-mouth beef tenderloin. I'm a gluten free Italian who can be a bit of a snob when it comes to ravioli, and I all but demanded that I get all of the leftover GF butternut squash ravioli. And that's just the main proteins. Everything was incredible.
Being the bride, I kind of selfishly assumed that when people would come up to me at the wedding that they would say something like "oh my gosh you're so beautiful" or something like that. Instead, I got "THIS FOOD!!!" followed by many exuberant mouth noises.
In case it isn't clear, we highly recommend Events with Taste. Michelle is incredibly talented and oh so nice - so when you are emailing with her remember that she is a chef first and foremost. I'll be honest, I couldn't tell if she liked working with me or not based on her email tone. But when we were able to finally meet her in person for the tasting, she was an absolute gem. So I only mention that to help set your expectations when communicating with her :)
Oh - and in case you didn't know, Michelle will create dishes based on you as a couple! Our apps were created around family recipes!! They were to die for while also having that special little sentimental additive. And in case you have food allergy people, Michelle was very well versed in all of that and handled my GF restrictions with ease. 6 GF guests, 2 of which with Celiac, and not 1 person got sick. What can I say, Michelle is magic!
(She even helped us pick out the perfect linens, china, and elegant bar disposables to fit within our budget without losing beautiful charm).
So what are you waiting for? Hire her!
Michelle and Lily were incredible to work with! When we first reached out to them regarding our wedding, we were sent a survey to learn more about us and the types of food we like. We gave them a general theme that we wanted to focus on (breakfast for dinner) and OH MAN did they deliver the most PERFECT breakfast menu. We made a special trip up to Chattanooga (we live in Florida) to sample our menu and it was absolutely perfect. Our guests, all night long, talked about how incredible the food was. We even had a little late night surprise snack for everyone that was AMAZING. Their staff was incredible, I never saw anyone that wasn't taking care of someone. My husband and I are very big on Customer Service and it was great from their team. If you want a personalized menu that really brings out you and your husband's/wife's personalities - book with Michelle because they will truly create a one of a kind menu that is perfect for your big day!
After taking forever to finally write a review, I want to say a big thanks to EWT for wowing my guests at our reception. The food is always delicious and well presented. People are still talking about how great the food and the presentation were.
I wish I could have it again!
The food served at our wedding is absolutely fantastic. Everyone LOVED it and we're still hearing about how great it was several weeks after the big day. Michelle is very clearly a talented chef who gets food and creates great tastes. Jordan is very professional and accommodating. The wait staff on the day of our wedding were professional, kind, and considerate. EWT made food plates for us to ensure we ate that night which was great because we didn't have to stand in line and we got to eat a little bit! They also made up a might night snack for both of us to take home and eat after the wedding which was very considerate. The reasons I didn't give 5 stars are below but overall, because the food tasted great, Jordan was easy to work with, and there were no major day-of issues, we are happy. The bartender was great as was the way the food was displayed. And one very impressive thing EWT did was when we discovered that the business that was supposed to make our cake forgot, they quickly went to their store and brought deserts and even a single layer of a cake for us to cut just for the appearance of it all. That was very much appreciated. Some of the drawbacks are listed below:
-We sensed some annoyance that we wanted to change items on the menu after it was developed (based on the food survey we answered). By no fault of EWT, we realized only upon review of the menu that foods WE like might not be ideal for a wedding when guests from different walks of our lives will be present. It shouldn't be a big deal to decide (after seeing the first menu based only on a survey and not a discussion) that some things won't work after all. To their credit though, they allowed us to specific requests and the food was perfect.
2) It would be nice to have a meeting / discussion rather than interact predominantly by email or phone calls with Jordan only. Jordan is fantastic but it might've been nice to have a chance to discuss the menu with Michelle and get her advice on foods that might be best for certain populations (e.g., children, people who can't handle spicy foods etc.). It would definitely have been nice to have discussed what changes could be made to bring down the price a wee bit but without some guidance, we risked having less food than the number of guests if we made uninformed changes so after one attempt, we stopped and decided to just forget about costs. As another reviewer mentioned, there is no opportunity to taste the food that will be on your menu other than a once -every-few-months tasting for many other couples during which EWT food can be tasted. Email can be impersonal and other than online reviews and the experience of the contact for our venue, we felt like we were taking a leap of faith but again, the food was great so it all worked out.
3) The weather was impossibly hot. We had SO much leftover food because some of our guest cancelled last minute and for other reasons... we were excited to bring leftovers home but it turns out, possibly because of spending so much time in a non air-conditioned environment (which was unavoidable), the leftovers were all spoiled. It's a pity because as mentioned above, it apparently tasted great and we spent $$$$ and thought we'd be able to eat it for at least a few days afterwards. We're disappointed we didn't get that chance but this is likely no fault of theirs except possibly being given the heads up that coolers etc. would've been helpful.
Overall, my event went really well and food was good. However, working with Michelle was far from great. First off, if you are an out of town bride, I do not recommend Events with Taste. They do quarterly tastings where you can come and taste "their food" not "your food" and they will not tell you this on the front end, and sometimes its during week days. After absolutely pulling teeth to be able to taste my menu, I was only allowed 3 items to taste of my own menu. This is something as a bride was really important to me as food is one of the biggest pieces of your budget. Michelle was extremely defensive and uncomfortable to be around if you do not like the food she cooks. She was not very open to my suggestions and was all around rude. I was told to go with Lee Towery Catering when I became a bride and I wish I would of. Like I mentioned the day went great, food was good, but for something like food that was the majority of my budget, I would not recommend this caterer.
Wedding planning is really stressful right? So it's critical that the communication goes smoothly and quickly. This was my biggest complaint with this caterer. It took nearly three months from initial contact to final contract. It took too long to get a timely response most times. I chose to do a plated dinner (which I now regret). Even though I had set up an online assigned seating chart for them they still called me ON THE MORNING OF MY WEDDING to figure out who wanted what order....why I wasn't contacted for clarification at least a day prior I don't know. Our venue didn't have a kitchen (reallly regret plated dinner) which they knew and the food was still served ice-cold. I was so looking forward to a hot meal finally after getting ready, hours in the sun taking pictures, the ceremony, more pictures but to my disappointment my food was ICE cold. On top of that there was actual mold on our rolls...The servers on the day of my wedding were really great though.
Most creative caterer I have ever met! Michelle and her team really put together a unique menu that spoke to who we were as a couple. We kept hearing from all of our guests how delicious the food was and how unique the experience was. If you are looking for a great catering experience (rentals, staff, service), you can't go wrong with EWT. I would hire them again in a heartbeat.
Events with Taste recently catered our Rehearsal Dinner and our Wedding Reception. Michelle's food is amazing and creative. Her presentation, staff and over all quality were exactly what we were looking for while planning our wedding. Michelle and her staff were great to work with. They were extremely accommodating to us and our guest at both events. I highly recommend using Events with Taste for your next party or event!
We hired Michelle and her team to cater our wedding at Tennessee River Place in Chattanooga. For the past 6 months of planning she has helped us in every way possible and has accommodated our requests. On the day of the wedding, Michelle was not there at all and never once told us her husband was the person that would oversee our wedding. He was rude to say the least. Every member of our bridal party, the bartenders and the wedding planner staff had a bad experience with his attitude and rudeness all day. At one point 6 bottles of wine fell in his kitchen and shattered. He blamed the groomsman, who were outside taking pictures at the time. At the end of the wedding, he walked right past my bride and I and did not say a word. The food was amazing, but if I pay you the amount of money that we did, the least you can do is congratulate the bride and groom and make sure our food was to our liking, which it was, but they wouldn't know that and didn't seem to care. If you use this caterer, make sure Michelle is the chef at your event.
wedding upcoming - will post full review then
EWT was absolutely wonderful. Not only was the food great, but all of the additional services provided were outstanding. There is much to be said for knocking out many of your pre-wedding to-do's at one vendor. EWT took care of linens, bartenders, servers, serveware, day-of coordinator, food, etc. and all were done fabulously!
Michelle and her team at Events with Taste are amazing. We told them our favorite foods and Michelle planned the best menu I could have ever imagined. There was something for everyone and it was all delicious. They helped plan and then orchestrated so much: the design of the ceremony space so the band could set up and sound check beforehand, getting the draping for the ceremony and the linens for the reception, getting the beer from the brewery, and creating an awesome menu, including the most variety I've ever seen at one event and a sangria that was a huge hit with guests. I didn't have to worry about going a lot of places to get what I wanted for the reception. My family, friends, new husband, and I loved the food. Michelle was there when my mom and I had questions or needed advice. The wait staff was great. They were so polite and helpful during the reception, and they helped my family pack up decorations, gifts, and leftovers at the end of the night. Michelle and her team are definitely great at what they do, and you can tell they care a lot. Everything was excellent. One day I want to have an anniversary party and get this food again! It was wonderful.
The food was fantastic! Everything was so unique and creative, from the watermelon and feta salad to the gourmet potato salad to the roasted vegetables, and the beef brisket was the best I've ever had. The fried chicken was wonderful and the chocolate pie was delicious! The price was very reasonable and the meat used is as local as possible, happy cows and chickens. Michelle knows what she's doing. You won't end up with a bunch of leftovers and you won't run out, she's willing to work with you and make any special tweaks you may want, and she has this fantastic mismatched antique china for the dishes and it's beautiful. The food might have been the best part of the night.
Although the food was amazing at my wedding, this venue was my least favorite to work with and caused me the most stress throughout the wedding planning process. The week after our wedding, my parents spent most of their time trying to track down anyone, to get the leftover food and wine that we were promised. They are terrible about returning phone calls and emails. We waited 3 weeks for our quote after our initial consultation. The caterer is always very busy, perhaps she should consider hiring extra help to return phone calls and emails.
The food was amazing - the wait staff was amazing. It was the absolute perfect wedding. Michelle and her staff did an amazing job on making sure our day was every bit as wonderful as I had pictured it.
People KEEP talking about the wonderful food at my wedding! Michelle created a menu that was specifically made for me & my husband. Down to our favorite foods (mini-chicken casseroles & Country Fried Steak!!). Michelle takes the time to find out what YOU like rather than giving you a list of options to select from. Once she knows your taste she creates a perfectly customized menu. And the quality....PRICELESS!! The food was incredible. Her service crew is top notch as well. I had my own personal server making sure I was taken care of every second of the reception!!
