Evermore Wedding Gown Care

se they specialized in vintage gowns, and I did not want it to be dry cleaned. The dress was in good condition but yellowed, (see before photos) and the store manager assured us that Evermore would be able to restore it to its original color.                                                                                  Sadly, Evermore was not able to do this and damaged the vintage fabric in the process. This was partly due to the work not being started in the timeframe promised (almost two weeks later than agreed upon) which resulted in rushed service and the gown being pressed while still wet with cleaning fluid. The once ivory dress now looked bleached white with ivory splotches and was dull instead of having a satin sheen. (See photo) The manager recommended the dress be processed a second time and then asked for another week after that. Without my permission, the dress was sent out and dry cleaned! The general manager said he thought the dress had grease stains and that he did not know the history of the dress. He could have known had he asked. The dress had been fully examined before any treatment, and there were no grease stains on the dress. The dress came back still splotchy and had been pressed on the right side of the fabric causing heat damage. (See photo) The store manager shook her head and said, “The best I can do is 50% off. I requested the full amount and was given that.                                                                                 Aside from not being able to restore the dress to its original color, the gown was irreparably damaged because of the way it was pressed. I expected that a company that specializes in vintage gowns would train their staff to not press a wet garment and press on the underside of the fabric. I know there are no guarantees in life and mistakes happen. What matters to me as a customer is the response when there is a mistake. I spoke with both the store manager and general manager, and neither would acknowledge that the gown was treated poorly. The general manager said, “What do you expect me to do? Clean the dress again? I have lost so much time and money already.” I absolutely did not want the dress done as Evermore had not demonstrated its staff were capable of caring for an heirloom dress. I felt I was treated in a disrespectful way and was shown no empathy for such disappointing results.                                                                                                              When I first brought in the dress, I was asked for its value. I said, “priceless.” I was encouraged to write that on the form. Now the gown is no longer lovely or the heirloom we hoped to pass onto the next generation. We have less than three months to find a dress. What was supposed to be a joyful part of planning a wedding has been so heart breaking.
