The moment my (then) fiancé and I saw the Hobbs Building, we were hooked. It even determined our wedding date (crazy, I know), and I have to say - it was completely worth it!
The venue itself is charming, with the warmth of vintage hardwood... columns and floors, an all-brick courtyard, and the perk of being in an urban setting, which is a decorator's dream. The restrooms are impeccable, too, which is definitely a must!
My husband and I are both big foodies, as are most of our family and friends, and everyone was impressed by the quality of the food (some friends said it was the best catered meal they've had in KC!). This was our #2 priority for the wedding, and we did not go wrong. The selection of appetizers, entrées, and sides were all fantastic and delicious. While it made for a hard couple of decisions, but once we'd determined a menu, we were both completely happy. (Don't pass on the Asian meatballs! We only got one each and they were gone before we could ask for more!!)
The only caveat that we would offer is that the planner we worked with seemed more concerned with her priorities than ours. We both work long hours and travel 80% for work, and the Feasts of Fancy staff has pretty limited availability after hours and none on weekends. Perhaps this is something we should've foreseen, but it made coordinating our meetings more of a burden than we would have liked. We also had more back-and-forth regarding the process than we thought we should've (just lacking clarity around expectations of our menu tasting, etc.). That being said, it was still a great overall experience. We happened to choose other vendors (AMAZING! see: Sidelines KC, Lisa Forbes at Simple Elegance, and Holmes Music World) that made the entire process infinitely easier. The day of our wedding went off without a single hiccup. We had a fantastic party, and that was exactly what we wanted!
Ultimately, this was the perfect choice for us, particularly with the quality of food. One additional perk for us was that we could buy and bring in our own alcohol (again, with the foodies, having a particular selection for both liquors and wine was a major must-have). We both give a solid recommendation for Feasts of Fancy (as a caterer alone) and the Hobbs Building (as a venue and caterer). They offered the quality of food and the gorgeous, flexible space that we were looking for to make our wedding everything that we wanted. And it was!! You won't go wrong with Feasts of Fancy.
