We used the Friar Tux shop in Escondido, CA for our wedding menswear and were completely disappointed. Throughout the process, it seemed that they were very disorganized and did not communicate well within the company. We made sure to book ou...r tuxedos well in advance of the wedding (10 months ahead of time), and the day of the wedding when the groomsmen got dressed, we found that their vests, ties, and pocket squares were the completely wrong color. We had ordered a beautiful deep purple to match the bridesmaids, and were given a hideous shade of pink/burgundy. This was discovered 2 hours prior to the wedding, and when we contacted the store were told there was no way to get the purple in time for the wedding. No solutions were offered, and we ended up having a friend of the family grab some black vests at the last minute and drive them up to the venue (40 minutes away), and also had the groomsmen wear black ties borrowed from the waiters at our venue. They looked like secret service agents, but at least had something presentable to wear. When we contacted the store after the wedding, we were told that a regional manager would contact us within a few days to discuss the incident. The only communication we received was an automated email survey. We tried multiple times to contact the regional manager (Jay) by phone, but he never answered and his voice mail box was full. When we emailed the store manager (Mike) to let him know that we were still waiting, he responded that he thought Jay had already taken care of it, which finally did happen after several weeks. We were offered a partial refund and a discount on a future rental (because we are going to rent from here again after this debacle?). We countered with a request for a full refund since the product we received was not what we ordered, which was granted (which is the reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1). Also, during the planning process, we had a groomsman that had to drop out of the wedding 5 weeks ahead of time. I contacted the store twice to request that he be taken off of our wedding party list (the second call was prompted because he was still showing up on our online event managing tool), and they assured me that he would be removed and that his tuxedo would not be ordered. This never happened, and his tux was delivered to the store. During the negotiation for the refund, we were told that they would waive the restocking fee that they would have typically charged us for not using a tux that was ordered, making it seem like they were doing us a huge favor. In reality, the tux should have never been ordered given that we had contacted them about it twice, and is just another example of the disorganization of this company. I'm not sure if the problem is lack of training or lack of attention to detail, but something needs to be addressed at this store if they expect to retain any customers. Out of all of our wedding vendors, this was the only place we had a single problem with (thankfully!). In the grand scheme of things, are we going to let the wedding tuxes ruin our celebration? Of course not. But, this is the one detail that this store is supposed to specialize in, so you would think they would focus on providing the best product and service that they possibly could. It was an unnecessary stress on our wedding day and did diminish from the overall visual effect of the vision we had for our wedding.
