We booked a block of hotel rooms with this Marriott for our wedding guests. I booked the block the December before our July wedding. I worked with their staff person Melissa to secure the block and to book rooms for my family as well as a suite to get ready in day of the wedding. They weren't as responsive as I would have liked but all was well and I had no reason to worry. Melissa and I had worked on the family rooms as I needed a certain number of beds, she booked me two connecting rooms (a king and a double bed room).
The week before the wedding I called to see if I could check in early, they weren't super nice but I was understanding. That staff member read back to me my reservation though and it was as Melissa had booked for me.
The day came to check in and I was told by the front desk that they didn't have connecting rooms but they were able to get me rooms next to each other (ok that's fine!). Then she said they don't have a double bed room so both rooms have King beds and unfortunately they are out of roll away beds. I was dismayed and told her I had booked this in advance and needed the correct number of beds! She assured me if something came available I would be the first to know! I was so mad that my rooms had been given away and was upset I had to tell my family that we needed to REALLY BUNK UP together. I asked if someone could help me with my wedding dress, she said oh yes of course I will send someone. No one came, I had to drag my dress through the hotel passing employees who offered no help. I went to get the rest of my luggage and the front desk staff called me over and asked if anyone ever came, I said I really just needed help with my dress, the one you saw me drag through your hotel lobby. She offered me a soda as an "I'm sorry". I refused it politely.
They did find us a roll away eventually, another double bed room never manifested.
I asked to speak with a manager, she said there wasn't one available and I had to wait until the next day. The next day I spoke with Melissa who apologized and said it's a busy time of year for them. I let her know I had other guests coming that afternoon and if she could do anything to ensure they got the rooms they requested. She said she would look in the system for me. I also asked her if we still had the suite reserved as I was now concerned that it may not be available. She gave me $40 in food credit and offered a discount on the suite.
If I was traveling for any other reason I would not have been bothered, hotels run out of king beds vs double beds all the time and its fine. But I had worked diligently with Melissa and she had assured me via email that these beds were going to be reserved. If she had told me its summer and its busy and I can't guarantee the beds I would have booked THREE rooms to accommodate my family. I really wanted this to be a nice experience for them as they had done so much for the wedding.
My other guests also experienced issues:
One went to get ice, grabbed the ice bucket and there was a used tampon in it. When they called down the front desk to let them know about the tampon and ask for a new ice bucket, they were informed that they were currently out of ice buckets!
Another guest was rudely told that they couldn't extend their stay.
Another guest experienced very rude service at check in.
I am embarrassed that I recommended this hotel to our family and friends.
Always Love the Marriott.
Vinole was the wedding coordinator at the hotel, and she made sure everything was perfect. We helped with all of the planning and took care of all of the set up, so I didn't have to stress on my wedding day. She even brought me a drink during the reception. The room was so beautiful. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Everything went perfectly, and I would recommend it to anyone.
We got married in October and called the Fullerton Marriot to reserve a block of rooms for our guests since it was the closest hotel to our wedding venue. We also paid for a shuttle to take our guests to and from the wedding to make it easier on them. Too bad deciding to go with this hotel made it harder on us. We had nothing but problems from the time we signed the contract with them. Torrance Whitton is the person we had to deal with and I have never met anybody with a worse work ethic. He was very helpful while he was trying to get us to sign the contract, but as soon as we did and the deal was made, that all changed. He never returned phone calls and when he did it was 2 weeks after we left him numerous messages. He was always out of the office and made planning very difficult. He failed to inform the rest of the staff that we had the reservation for the shuttle and I was on the phone fighting with them the day before the wedding. He also failed to inform the front desk that our guests would be able to check in at noon since the wedding started at 4 and that was their usual check in time. Since they didn't know, my guests were forced to put their luggage in their storage closet and get ready in the lobby bathrooms because they wouldn't let them check in at the arranged time of noon. When my husband went to check in the manager was very rude to him and told him that when we came back after the wedding to "be quiet and not cause any problems" like we were a group of unruly teenagers. The ironic part was when we got back to the hotel later that night there was a womens volleyball team there and a bachelorette party in the bar and they were making a ton of noise! We just laughed and went up to our room. Before the wedding the shuttle mess still wasn't cleared up even after the fiasco between the manager and my husband, and one of our groomsmen had to call and ask where the shuttle was and was almost late for the wedding, and then they failed to pick us up again after the wedding, and again had to be called and reminded that they needed to come and get us. It was the most horrible experience I have ever encountered with a hotel and will never go back! This hotel is overpriced and WAY over rated. Embassy Suites are right up the road and we suggest going to them before you even think about going to the marriot.
