She knows who is reliable, talented, professional, and will work together to create an incredible experience. Her communication is next-level. She is always available to answer questions, keep everyone on the same page, and make sure every detail is handled. She arrives super early for setup, stays until the very last guest leaves, and is truly there from start to finish. Most importantly, Geni will hold your hand through the entire planning process. She makes you feel taken care of, supported, and confident that your event is in the best possible hands. And every single time I work with her, she executes a flawless event. There are a lot of people who call themselves wedding planners, but there aren’t nearly as many seasoned, experienced planners in the DFW market who really know their stuff. Geni absolutely stands out as one of the top planners in DFW.

She misled us into believing that real candles would not be possible for us to do as we were doing our own flowers and not using one of her florists. She told us repeatedly that getting a candle permit was very difficult and that real candles were a hassle. I found out 3 weeks before the wedding from the venue during our final planning meeting that this was a lie and that both the venue and Geni had contacts in the fire department. Even in this meeting, Geni tried to steer us away from it despite it being our biggest wish. Ultimately the process of a candle permit took less than 2 hours. This was just one of several examples of this behavior. She would not help with placement of linens, candles, any decoration including the fake and real flower arrangements we had premade, or help with any other aspect of wedding design despite this being on her contract. I had to hire a friend to help me handle most of the wedding day execution as a result. She consistently shot down my ideas making me have to go around her to execute them. She tried to tell us not to have a popcorn machine, a 7/11 stand , a belly dancer, a traditional Zeffe procession, etc. Anything that didn’t fit her vision of a normal wedding was discouraged. The budget proposal she gave us was $15k over what we asked her to try and respect and didn’t include her own fee. When I got diagnosed with cancer during the planning period and asked her to help us revise the budget, she did not do so. She only communicates via texts and emails and we only has 1 video call, and 5 calls in total during the 8 month period despite conversations about preferred communication style before hiring her. There was a 3 month period from March to June where there were no phone calls despite me requesting them. In March, she emailed me threatening to end our planning relationship due to perceived delays in completing tasks. I was actively in the hospital getting cancer treatment which she knew about when I received this email. After I completed everything requested in less than a day, I asked for a call to resolve the situation, but was told, “No call is necessary at this time.” After that, trust in the relationship was significantly damaged. This honestly exemplifies how she handles most communication matters. I received multiple calls and emails from vendors prior to the wedding asking what was happening with my planner or saying she didn’t answer requests or communicated rudely with them. During the actual wedding, she and her assistant arrived 15-20 mins late. She yelled at multiple guests including my own father and snapped at me multiple times including once in the dance floor in front of guests when I asked her to help extend our rental. Overall working with her was a very unpleasant experience. I wholeheartedly would recommend you find another planner who is actually pleasant to work with and will feel like part of your team instead of actively working against you. She didn’t even care enough to learn to pronounce my name (it’s not hard it’s pronounced May) during our time working together which feels like the bare minimum.
