I can't say enough about how truly stunning and perfect this venue is and how wonderful Kate and her team were to work with throughout the process! I am the mother of the bride and both my daughter, and I are from out of town, so planning from a distance seemed daunting at first. But from the minute my daughter first saw Grace and we met Kate, we both knew it was exactly the right place for the ceremony and reception. Kate was responsive, collaborative, helpful and spot-on in all her suggestions (including for things we didn’t even know to ask like renting parking meters from the city to clear space in front of the venue). Kate’s expertise and thoughtfulness really helped to make the whole day magical. It was seamless having both the ceremony and reception in one location – each space has a different ambiance, which was wonderful. Coming from the intimate and warm white light of the ceremony and entering the reception with its grand cathedral ceiling, dramatic stained glass, stunning bar and balcony seating, made it feel as if we had in fact traveled to another location (but without the logistical fuss and bother). The side rooms for the bridal party to get ready in and the multiple additional bathrooms available on the lower floor and in the vestibule offered the functionality we needed to make everyone comfortable and the day flow beautifully. Our guests raved about how gorgeous and singular Grace is, it truly is like no other venue in Portland. We just can’t recommend Grace highly enough, in every way!

As the mother of the two brides who have had wedding receptions at Grace, I am experienced enough to offer a solid opinion on the new 2020 "Grace" - and it's just as wonderful as it was when it provided food, as a spectacular space to have a great party and a unique and stunning central bar, with excellent service and managed by the ever professional and warm Meghan. Meghan is a terrific partner in thinking about planning a wedding, and how to use the space best to maximize guests' fun. We have had DJs at both weddings, and the main floor easily transitions into a dance space. The evening lighting inside feels very romantic, and it's an easy space to dress up the way you want with table decorations. Guests, especially those from out of town, really seem to be taken with the beautiful architecture and design inside Grace. Folks who have been there before say they are very glad to be inside the space again, and have fond memories of attending other events or having dinner at the former restaurant. The lower floor can easily be transformed into a pretty secular setting for the ceremony, with flowers and other decorations, and it's great to have everyone in one venue for the entire wedding. There is no other space like it anywhere near Portland. It's so close to the nightlife in Portland, that it is easy for people who want to continue partying after the reception to find a place within walking distance. I can't say enough good things about our experiences with Grace.

Grace was the perfect untraditional wedding venue for our big day! We held our ceremony and cocktail hour upstairs in the sanctuary, and the reception downstairs in the great room (a super affordable option to be able to use two beautiful spaces). Nearly every guest we had commented how much they loved the venue and how unique and amazing it was!
Every food we had was incredible. I was wary of not tasting anything at the restaurant beforehand, but everything was delicious and the service was perfect!
The best part of holding your wedding at Grace is having Meghan as your event coordinator. We booked our wedding two years in advance, and Meghan answered every question I had no matter how big or small for two years. On the days of and before the wedding, Meghan executed everything I wanted, even at a moment's notice. Like when I forgot to tell her I wanted a sweetheart table until we were about to begin the ceremony, or when I wanted the cake table moved after it was already stacked with donuts! Meghan made everything run smoothly so i really got to enjoy the party!
I can't wait to go back to Portland to have dinner at Grace on our first anniversary to relive the best day ever!
Any questions?

We absolutely loved this wedding venue. We had our reception in the downstairs area and our ceremony in eastern promenade and everything turned out to be like in our dreams! Working with this vendor was also a really great experience. We always had all of our questions answered and everyone was so helpful. Recommended for sure!! What a dream!

Grace is a gorgeous venue that all of our guests keep talking about. The food and drinks are delicious and are far above what I have experienced as a wedding guest at other venues. Our guests have complimented the food and drinks consistently since our wedding day. This was my dream venue so there's not enough words for me to describe how in love I am with Grace. Meghan Buck, the event coordinator is a real professional. She is very knowledgeable & super helpful, she's a dream for any bride like me who didn't have a clue about planning a wedding. She is a real asset and will make everything about your day perfect. Get married at Grace, it'll be the best day of your life!

Grace was the perfect location for our wedding – it was elegant, classy and yet casual all at the same time. Our guests were wowed with our ceremony on the balcony, the cocktail hour on the main floor, and the reception in the greatroom. The food and drink service was perfect, and so many people complimented the food from cocktail hour and from the plated dinner. The best part of having our wedding at Grace was working with Meghan. Meghan was the ideal event manager for our wedding day. She was always prompt and thorough when I had questions leading up to the day. She was very organized on the day of and helped us set up the details around the space to make the venue really stand out. Meghan was the ultimate professional and also was able to soothe any last minute concerns of mine and really helped the event flow smoothly – I couldn’t imagine the day without her!

Best ever wedding venue!! Our event planner Meg was beyond helpful with every last detail, fun and insightful, and so easy to work with. We had the ceremony upstairs in the beautiful Sanctuary and transitioned downstairs to the inviting Great room with seamless effort. We would recommend Grace above all venues for your special day, family function, Holiday parties, ect. The food was INCREDIBLE, the service professional and the space gorgeous! Grace is a total win!!

We had our rehearsal dinner here for about 80 people. The location is fantastic, the restaurant is gorgeous. The space was fantastic! Everyone was blown away by the food- so good! Meg was so helpful in planning as I had a million questions and was planning from far away and couldn't be there. It was perfect! Highly recommend Grace!!!

James and I had our reception at Grace in June 2017. We were planning from out of state and Meghan, the event coordinator, made every part of planning flawless and easy! We could not stop getting compliments on food and atmosphere.

If you're looking for a beautiful and unique reception space that has the best staff around, look no further than Grace. Meghan and her colleauges are warm, exceedingly professional, and couldn't be easier to work with. Our friends and family continue to rave about the beauty of the space ("what a unique venue!"), the excellence of the food ("best food I've ever had at a wedding - no contest"), and the quality of the service ("the wait staff was superb").
We had a couple of moving parts to our wedding weekend, and Meghan and her team at Grace really made it all possible. Despite the fact that we planned the wedding from 1000 miles away, Meghan's organization, prompt replies, and expertise left me with no doubt that she would pull together our disparate ideas and hopes and transform them into a beautiful wedding reception. We couldn't have been happier with our experience- -both the planning process and the big day-- and we remain extremely grateful to Meghan and the team at Grace for their pivotal role they played in our wedding celebration.

The term "grace" derives from the Latin "gratus" meaning "pleasing, thankful"; it is defined as both "simple elegance or refinement of movement" as well as "the free and unmerited favor of God, as manifested in the bestowal of blessings." And, truly, I cannot think of any better sets of words or phrases that could encapsulate my experience with Grace in Portland, Maine.
First of all, the venue itself is breathtaking; every single one of our guests was in awe and couldn't stop staring at the stained glass and architecture. Even with minimal decorations, the venue is stunning in its simple elegance. It was also a blessing to have had the ability to have both our ceremony and our reception in the same space... with a cocktail hour sandwiched in between. I didn't have to worry A SINGLE BIT about the quality of service, food, or drink because Grace does it all and does it to perfection. I literally have had people text me every day since the wedding telling me it was the best (insert food/cocktail) here that they have ever eaten... and I know it's true because during the planning process, I tried to eat here each time I visited Portland. (Also I saw that there were 39 Holier Than Thou cocktails ordered... and that's only ONE of their signature drinks!!!)
I would be remiss to review Grace without also reviewing the most amazing, creative, levelheaded, and professional events coordinator I think I will ever meet in my life: Meghan Buck. She was a true godsend, and she made sure everything leading up to the event was perfect, that we actually ate our food at the wedding, and that people were safe throughout the evening. There's nothing more to say except that Grace, Meghan, and her team gave me a true fairy tale wedding that was pleasing, refined, and DELICIOUS... and I am truly grateful and thankful, and wish only the best of abundant blessings to everyone involved in making our special evening come to life. Thank you!!!

Grace is a hidden Gem. I've heard back non stop from family and friends about how unique and beautiful our venue was! It was absolutely perfect. The food was AMAZING, the staff friendly and the event coordinator, Meghan, is the best there is. Meghan was a breeze to work with. Always on top of emails and eager to answer any little question thrown her way. I can't say enough about her. Top notch!

Grace was exactly what my husband and I had been looking for in a wedding venue and food choices. We met with Meghan, the wedding coordinator and loved her from the start. She was super responsive by email and the nicest person you could meet. I never felt like I was bothering her with any of my numerous questions and she always had an answer to every question I asked. She was on top of everything and has a lot of experience working with weddings there so she knows what works and what doesn't. I never once stressed about anything working out the day of because I knew she had it covered.
As for the venue, it's absolutely beautiful. We rented out the restaurant for the night and had our ceremony downstairs and reception upstairs in the restaurant. Both spaces are great. When we were thinking about what we wanted for our wedding, we knew we didn't want boring or bland food. When we saw the menu offerings at Grace, we knew right away that this was exactly what we were thinking. The food was exceptional and the service was great too. And coming from Boston where a wedding like this would have been double the price we spent, we felt the pricing was very reasonable too.
If you're looking for a wedding venue that will wow your guests and keep them talking about how great the food was, Grace should be your choice.

My husband and I cannot recommend Grace highly enough - from start to finish we are so happy we chose to get married there.
We had the ceremony and cocktail hour upstairs and the reception downstairs. The upstairs is stunning and such a fun twist on a church for a less traditional ceremony. The downstairs is cozy and in fact I had a number of people comment that they loved the chance to be in both spaces as the upstairs is such a wow factor, but the downstairs allowed for more intimacy (we had 100 guests). The food is fantastic - many people went out of their way to compliment us (well, grace!) on the food. In fact, people complimented us left and right for the wedding, from food to venue to how smoothly everything went.
For what you get, we found Grace to be INCREDIBLY reasonable cost wise. They don't nickel and dime you on things like bringing your own cakes (we brought our own pies and they even graciously set everything up in a wonderful display), set up, etc...
And to top everything off, Meghan, the on-site coordinator, is AMAZING. She was responsive and helpful and was great about being flexible while also telling us what really worked in the space, so we didn't have to reinvent the wheel or get overwhelmed in decisions. I had heard from many, many friends who had been married to make sure to get a day of coordinator, but every time I'd check to see if we'd be responsible for something, Meghan would just say, we'll take care of it. Set up, take down, working with a vendor on where to put the photo booth or the dj etc... - they did it all. I kept pushing her as I figured there was some "gotcha" and Meghan's response was that her goal was to eliminate the need for that. I will say, since you aren't coordinating rentals, bartenders or caterers, it certainly minimizes things anyway but she and everyone at Grace went so above and beyond.
I had wondered whether having the restaurant open upstairs during our reception would have any impact on us, but no one even noticed and we certainly danced it up as I have at other weddings without ever having concerns over noise or anything. Also a benefit is that it's right in the Old Port and close to hotels - so everyone in from out of town can enjoy Portland and not stress about transportation.
We would pick Grace again if we had it to do over again without hesitation and would recommend to anyone!

Our experience having Grace host our wedding ceremony and reception was amazing. I can't say enough positive things about the venue/ambiance, staff and food. Meghan, the onsite event coordinator, is nothing short of amazing. She was responsive, detail-oriented. kind and patient. She made us feel at ease providing support throughout the process and it was great having her there on the actual day - literally running around the whole night making sure everything was running smoothly. As a venue, Grace is hard to beat - we fell in love with it at first sight. It is naturally beautiful and required very little additional decor; and needless to say the food was wonderful. Additionally, the venue was very affordable. If you're thinking about Grace for your wedding or an event, don't hesitate.

My husband and I are both big foodies so food was our number one priority when we were picking our wedding venue. Grace did not disappoint! The food was delicious and service was efficient and friendly. Megan, the coordinator for our wedding, was also amazing. As soon as we met her, I knew she was the person I wanted in charge of the details on my wedding day. Whenever she said, don't worry about xyz, we will take care of it, I knew I could trust her. We did our ceremony and reception at Grace and Megan and her team did an amazing job of making sure our wedding was perfect. I highly recommend Grace!

From the minute we walked into Grace, we knew it was the perfect venue for our wedding. Our confidence proved well-founded when we met Meghan Buck, Grace’s on-site events and wedding coordinator. One of our highest priorities for our wedding was the food—and Grace never disappoints in that category. In addition to having a creative and talented chef, Grace is also architecturally stunning: This pre-Civil War church was carefully converted into a restaurant that maintains the original stained glass and wood beams. Not only did Meghan expertly orchestrate our reception in the main Sanctuary space, but she also worked with us at the very last minute to move our ceremony from an outdoor location to the Great Room inside Grace. We cannot overstate how critical Meghan’s attention to detail and personal touch was to making our wedding day possible.

I was the Mother of the Bride. We live in Portland and so had a lot of local knowledge about wedding venues. We wanted one that would have character, allow people to stay intown and walk to the wedding, have great food, and be easy to work with, since the bride and groom are not into DYI and really just wanted a great venue with an excellent beer menu. Grace knocked it out of the park. The events coordinator - Megan - is unbelievably helpful and encouraging, knowledgeable and warm. I loved her direct style - clear answers to all questions along with a flexible approach. We had met with many other wedding venue companies, and their people, and Megan was far and away the best - this was our first wedding and she shared her experiences and advice, without being overbearing or opinionated. We had many unsolicited compliments from our guests on the food, drinks, service, and atmosphere, and the groomsmen said it was the best wedding they have ever attended (and since they are age 34 or so, they have been to a lot of weddings). But the real star was Megan, for us, who just made the whole thing so easy and straightforward. I can't say enough good things about Grace. We had a couple of medical issues with guests at the reception and the folks at Grace were on top of them immediately, attentive and concerned without being the least bit dramatic. We had the ceremony downstairs (Sunday wedding) due to the weather, and it was lovely. We did very little decorating, because the place is quite beautiful on its own. For the guests, this was so easy - they just walked upstairs to the fantastic bar and lounge area for a cocktail hour before dinner. Our vendors all said they love working with Grace - the photographer, the harpist, the DJ. Really - if you want a turnkey wedding venue, this is the one. A+

I had a very positive experience with Grace. Love the atmosphere, you need very little decoration since the building itself is so beautiful. Several of my guests said this was the best food they had at a wedding. The team did a great job enhancing my decorations by adding candles, etc. to make things look nice. If you do the wedding downstairs you pay very little for the venue, a great deal.
10/27/2013 • Mandee N
Grace was a perfect venue for our wedding! The staff was wonderful, thinking of every detail and letting me enjoy our day. They take care of setting up whatever decorations you bring and pick up after the event. Food was amazing and well worth every penny.

I can not say enough good things about this place. First off when you book your wedding or reception here you get a planner to help you plan the whole thing. Sabin was our event planner and if it wasnt for him I dont think our wedding would have been as great as it was. I did not have alot of ideas but he took my ideas and told me what would work best. He has years of experience doing this and made everything run smoothly. The food is also amazing, we had many people tell us that it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding. We booked the ballroom which is downstairs and it was beautiful. If you are considering having your wedding or reception here, you should!
9/02/2012 • Sarah B
We had our wedding reception and ceremony at Grace in August 2012. Everything about it was OUTSTANDING. Sabin was great to work with from the beginning and was an important, helpful, and calming presence on our wedding day. The staff at Grace are professional and friendly and made us feel really special. My grandmother said that she never even saw a dirty napkin-- because they were so attentive. We didn't have to worry about a thing! As if the breathtaking beauty of the space and the professional service weren't enough, Grace really delivers on food and drinks, too. My uncle is a chef and a huge foodie and he said that we provided the best food he's ever had at a wedding! We highly recommend Grace for a beautiful, elegant, delicious, unforgettable event.

What a fabulous experience! We chose Grace as the location for our Rehearsal dinner and Welcome Party for our destination wedding in Portland. Sabin, the event coordinator did an amazing job planning the event and the night was perfect, what service! Our guests gushed over the incredible atmosphere and the divine food. What an amazing place to hold a function!
5/15/2012 • Tracee C
I loved every minute of my wedding at Grace, the coordinator there was so helpful and organized. He made things run smoothly and gave us ideas of what did and did not work for the space.
9/30/2011 • Megan D
My husband and I had our reception at Grace and couldn't have been happier. We wanted a intimate dinner with our 100 guests and Sabin and his team REALLY delivered!
Throughout the entire process Sabin (event manager) was a dream! He is incredibly easy-going, but so organized! My mother and I had a BLAST working with him for the last nine months on the menu, agenda for the reception, creative vision, etc.
This venue speaks for itself- just look at the place! We only had to work with a florist to make the room look just the way I wanted it! Other venues wanted close to 5k for linen, chairs and vases- all I can say is that was not the problem at all for Grace.
In addition to the day going so smooth, I can't tell you how many calls, emails and texts I have received from guests that loved the food and the service! For the passed appetizers, I keep hearing about the duck tacos (trust me, they are amazing!) and the cheese fondue. The Lobster Stew was a huge hit. I didn't hear one person complain about anything!
When you match up such great service with an amazing room and top-notch food you have a winner. Trust me, I'm from Maine originally and Grace was a blessing (no pun intended) after speaking with other stuffy venues.
This place is perfect for a wedding reception! The pictures you can take inside the venue are amazing and our photographer got some great shots from the balcony.
You really can't go wrong with Grace!

Our best man and maid of honor took us here for a joint pre-bachelor/bachelorette party dinner with our entire wedding party and their spouses. It was simply delicious, with wonderful atmosphere. Everything was so unique about the restaurant, and we had a very intimate and semi-private seating which was great for our large party.
10/07/2010 • Holly G
This venue you is not a typical wedding venue what so ever. Perfect for the bride that is either a foodie, urban, into beautiful unique architechture, or all of the above, such as myself. The team at Grace remains in the background while still meeting you every need and want. I highly, highly recommend this venue!
9/21/2010 • Elinor G
The food is excellent but the service is outstanding. They will take care of you and help you through the process. They will work with your budget, we actually came under budget and had an open bar plus appetizers and a sit down meal. But you can do it so many different ways. Beautiful venue, everyone keeps complimenting me on it.
