Where do I even start? The Galvez went above and beyond to accommodate my husband and I for our wedding. Especially with renovations going on throughout the hotel, they made sure us, our wedding party, as well as all of our guests were comfortable, and taken care of. Angela is amazing and answered every single one of my (anxiety-ridden) emails, and Kristen was extremely helpful too! The food was excellent, and we received many compliments from guests. Angela even left a hand-written card and left it in our room. Wonderful experience and highly recommended this hotel! Ask for Angela!
We had an absolutely wonderful experience using the Galvez as our wedding venue. The catering manager, Angela "Angie" Westhoff, was a joy to work with. She was always very responsive to our emails and was accommodating to every request we had, and she had great suggestions for things we didn't even think of.
The wedding contract included a night in the hotel on the night after the wedding, but we also booked the night before so we could have the rehearsal onsite and then stay over. We were given a top-floor suite, and there was a meat and cheese tray with a bottle of wine waiting for us with a nice welcome note. Made us feel very special!
On the day of the wedding, everything was set up just like we wanted. Our guest were all very complimentary about the food and bar service. And then, when we arrived back in our room after at the end of the night, a bottle of champagne and some chocolate covered strawberries were waiting for us with another note congratulating us.
The only slightly negative comments would be that we had requested some sparkling wine be made available for our guests during our champagne toast (which was provided complementary) for those who didn't want alcohol, and somehow that didn't get communicated to the wait staff. But, when we asked about it during the event, they made it happen. The other thing is that renovations were ongoing and a few of our guests had some issues with their rooms. But, I understand that things happen during renovations.
On the subject of the renovations, we were very apprehensive when we were told there would be renovations starting about a year before our wedding. However, Angie and the hotel manager made the time to meet with us in person and answer all of our questions and help put us at ease. They also gave us the option to cancel our contract. At the wedding, the areas that had been renovated were absolutely gorgeous! They made for some fantastic photos. And the areas actively under renovation were covered relatively well.
All-in-all, we had a fantastic experience, and we feel that we got a great value. To be clear, we spent plenty of money. But, compared to other venues with on-site catering, we really did get a good deal. The food and beverage minimum was reasonable compared to other venues, the pricing of food and drink was reasonable, and there were very minimal charges for room use. Some venues charge a couple of thousand dollars as a "ceremony fee" to have the ceremony and reception both at the venue. The Galvez only charged one fee ($500) for room set-up for BOTH the ceremony and reception. Just a few other flat fees ($100 each) for bar tending and cake cutting. Almost all of the check for the wedding was the food and drink.
We celebrated our daughter’s wedding at the Grand Galvez on Saturday night. Everything was perfect from the planning process with Angela in Catering, to the venue, to the delicious food served. The hotel was under major renovation, but the hotel made it where it was not noticeable at all. We had the wedding outdoors at night in the Oleander Garden, and the reception in the Terrace Ballroom. I had guest give me rave reviews all night about the entire event. On Sunday, we had guest stay for the Grand Galvez wonderful Sunday brunch. What a great wedding weekend and wonderful wedding experience.
There aren’t enough words to describe how thankful we are for Angie, Mr Bob, Chef Nate and the rest of the team at Hotel Galvez. Our wedding weekend was absolutely perfect! Every detail was absolutely perfect, the food was amazing and all of our guest said they had an amazing time. It was truly a fairytale and we loved every minute of it!
We selected Hotel Galvez for our daughter's wedding & we are so happy we did! It is a beautiful venue! Our wedding event was held in the garden, veranda & ballroom. This beautiful setting met all our needs. The staff was very welcoming. The banquet staff were so accommodating, Rosa Grimaldo & Kendy provided service for our rehearsal dinner & wedding dinner. The food was delicious & specialty items we selected were displayed elegantly. They are exceptional & we are so very grateful for their kind hospitality! In the Salon & Spa, Jessica was amazing! She provided all services to our bridal party. Hair, makeup & nails were done with precision & to our liking! Jessica even worked in our groom & the officiant for hair services the morning of the wedding. We appreciate all staff for their excellent customer service. Thank You!
We wouldn’t have changed a thing about our wedding. We found the Galvez and didn’t look any farther. The price was perfect for our budget. We loved that all food, drinks, linens, tables, etc were all included. We had our ceremony in the Oleander Garden and our reception in the Terrace and Ballroom. The food, drinks and atmosphere were unparalleled. The guests especially loved the donut hole station. Our photos are so beautiful and timeless. We loved the ease of staying at the hotel for the weekend and our guests enjoyed celebrating all weekend around Galveston. Angela Westhoff was a pleasure to work with. Prompt to respond to any of my millions of questions and very accommodating to my last minute changes. Would recommend to anyone!
It was perfect!
The venue was wonderful. Gina was awesome to work with. She was so accommodating, sweet and flexible. She was also very generous and kind. From the beginning to end she answered all my questions and concerns with warmth which eased a lot of my anxiety. The wedding was beautiful. The banquet manager was very accommodating and the staff were all professional. The food was AMAZING! I got many compliments about the food and drink (specifically the salmon! yum!). Even after our wedding was over the hotel made sure we felt special with a gift that expressed “congratulations”. Everything that the hotel presented looked top notch and service was great. My dream wedding came true at this venue! We are so happy to have had it at the Hotel Galvez.
I had my wedding at the Galvez in December and I cannot recommend it enough, especially if you're looking for a venue in December! Gina and her team were so professional. She worked with us in the months leading up to the wedding to make sure we had everything we needed ready to go. We did a food tasting with the chef in order to find the right combination of hors d'oeuvres, dinner, and drinks for our guests. The night of the wedding, everything went smoothly. Gina made sure that my husband and I ate (a lot of couples don't make time to) and even set up a couples table in a private area so we could enjoy our first dinner as newlyweds without interruption. We had so many compliments from family members about how professional and accommodating the staff were. We had a few children and people with food allergies and they were able to work with the staff and find something they enjoyed! They decorate the hotel for the holidays so there are large Christmas trees everywhere which made great backdrops for family photos for guests. The food and drinks were wonderful and we had the best night ever! The Galvez now has a special place in our hearts! I highly recommend the Galvez!

All I’ve heard was how gorgeous everything was and that the food was top notch!
After looking for a venue for months, Hotel Galvez jumped out at us. The experience was perfect, and the food was incredible. Couldn't have imagined a better place for a more beautiful wedding.
I am so happy I chose this venue for our wedding. The catering manager, Angela, that worked with us was absolutely amazing. She was so accommodating, patient, easy to communicate with and thought of everything for us. The day of, she even helped make sure everything was going smoothly, and made me feel at ease when one of my vendors did not show on time and she took care of contacting them for me. The reception and ceremony venue were absolutely beautiful and versatile for any kind of vision you may have for your wedding. If you have out of town guests this is a perfect venue as well, just because it is so accommodating to guests and a fun spot for people to walk across to the beach, or visit nearby strand district and other popular attractions. It was like a one stop shop- all food linens and rentals were provided, guest accommodations, and I even used the spa for mine and my bridesmaids hair and nails and they were fantastic too. Yes it was all pricey, but considering the quality of services they provide, and the ease of having it all in one place it is totally worth it!
Absolutely loved having my wedding at the Hotel Galvez! I had the pleasure of working with both Angie and Gina and they are both AMAZING to work with! Having our wedding the weekend after Harvey was stressful enough but the Galvez staff made it seem like a walk in the park!
Do not use this venue. We had to keep emailing and calling constantly. They were hard to reach. The set up for my reception was not what we discuss. It was very hot and sweaty the entire time. They even forgot to bring my dad his food, the father of the bride. And everyone had to get up to get their own drinks. It was not worth the money it cost! Beautiful venue, it's just the staff and contact coordinator were not good at all!
Everything was perfect. Thank you Gina for making sure everything went so smoothly.
Whether you want a small intimate wedding, or a huge extravaganza, I would say your first stop should be to visit Angela at the Hotel Galvez. She and the hotel staff were so accommodating and we could not have been happier with how the day went. The entire weekend we felt taken care of with great service from every single member of the staff. The location is ideal, and the hotel itself is stunning. Angela was professional and thoughtful when it came to helping us plan our day. There was another event going on that weekend but she did not let it take her focus away from us and every moment was amazing. To cap it off, the Sunday brunch at the hotel is something that you must visit... it's a one of a kind dining experience. Thanks Hotel Galvez!
I felt like a princess!!! The spa did the whole wedding party's hair and make-up!!! They also did about all of my families hair and make-up too!!! They were so good with the flower girls and made everyone feel special! So impressed, we had champagne and catered food, so glamorous, I will never forget it!!!! Kelly did my hair and makeup and did such a amazing job, it even stood up to the Galveston humidity!!!
Hotel Galvez was amazing! They provided everything, from the dance floor to the linens. The food was delicious, the beer was cold and the staff was on point. It was all put together beautifully and I couldn't have asked for anything to go smoother than it did. I definitely recommend Hotel Galvez to every bride!
The staff was very friendly and courteous. They were able to get my bridesmaids and I all in together. My makeup was done very well. I liked my hair but wish I had told them to do tighter curls as it was later in the evening when I had my wedding. Make sure to call plenty in advance of your date as they do get busy!
Definitely a must stay! Friendly staff. Superb food. Resort quality pool. Awesome bar. And the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on! In walking distance from several local hangouts!
I could not be happier with my choice of venue! We got married on the front lawn and held the reception on the Music Hall. It was absolutely gorgeous. I felt taken care of the entire time. Everything went perfectly. The staff was extremely professional and courteous. A++
Gorgeous hotel, courteous staff. Was clearly not the big budget wedding for the facility and therefore not catered too, but still very happy with the location for my wedding.
Hotel Galvez was amazing from start to finish. Angie helped me with every question I had, always answering me in a timely manner. She helped decide on things I had no idea about by giving me information I could not have known, having never planned a wedding before. The tasting was such an amazing experience and everything was delicious, and even better the day of. The banquet manager the day of was awesome. I came in early to be sure everything was how I wanted, and he was OK with me changing a few things around, and more than willing to help. The set up of both the ceremony and reception were beautiful, and i could not have asked for a better day!
I wanted a destination wedding, but I still wanted all our friends and family there. The Hotel Galvez was close enough to home, but still had the destination wedding feel. It was also nice to be close enough so i could easily drive down for a day and go through planning steps. The banquet manager made the whole process very simple and painless. The ceremony location and reception room was beautiful! And the food is delicious! It was absolutely perfect.
Brittany Ranson did a wonderful job making sure we had everything in order. The staff made sure we had drinks in hand the whole reception and the pasta bar and carving station was awesome!!!!!!!
The hotel is old so we had minor issues like a leak in the room, but this hotel is so beautiful and elegant. My wedding was so gorgeous and the staff is phenomenonal! Michele Payne is the Catering Director and I didn't have a wedding planner, but she stepped in and did whatever it took to have the wedding go smoothly. She didn't have to, but she did and with a smile on her face. The hotel's goal is to give you exactly what you envision and the perfect wedding. Although, I have come to believe there is no such thing as the perfect wedding simply due to all of the moving parts, but this hotel is wonderful!! i would recommend it to anyone for any type of event, especially a wedding!! The pictures are phenomenal and if you are even slightly considering this hotel as your venue, GO SEE IT IN PERSON!!!! Pictures won't do it justice, but when you pull into the front entrance or walk into the verandah room or terrace ballroom the first time, you'll fall in love!!!! We did and it will forever be a special place to us now! Oh and the food is AMAZING!!! Every single person I've spoken to about the wedding just raves about the wedding dinner AND the Sunday Brunch. ;)
Word cannot express how amazing the Hotel Galvez was on my wedding day. They waited on us hand and foot. The food was HEAVENLY. The coordinator is there all night long to make sure that the night goes without a flaw. They gave us a truly amazing presidental suite for the night complimentary. My wedding was perfect because of the Galvez.
The Galvez was beautiful, helpful and wonderful food. my coordinator was Angie and she was always willing to meet with us, talk on the phone or answer emails. I had my wedding and reception at the hotel. All the guest loved the hotel and the food. Only downside was the expensive rooms!
I could not have been more happy or more impressed by this hotel. We had our ceremony in the beautiful, beautiful Oleander Garden and our recpetion in the Terrace Ballroom. The architecture and history of the hotel are enough to induce even the slightest jaw-drop, but add in your decor (which I would suggest minimal, as not to ake away from the gradeur) and you have a masterpiece for your big day.
Jennifer Norman, our catering manager, was there to answer all of my questions and address any concerns along the way. And out go-to person on the big day, Martin, was never further than 30 feet from you.
The timing, the coordination and the impeccable attention to detail made it so easy for me on the big day. I cannot recommend the hotel enough.
The hotel staff in both sales & catering were professional, accomodating, & knowledgeable. The beautiful & historic hotel served as a marvelous place to have a wedding & reception.
