Great communication with staff throughout the entire process! Beautiful venue, extra helpful staff on the day of the event. Our guests had a great time
I had my wedding at the opera house last weekend and it was an absolute nightmare. 1 hour before cocktail hour the venue lost power due to issues from a severe storm a day prior. They did not alert myself or my family of this power issue and we had to find out from guests that arrived before us.
The groom asked if there was anyway to find battery operated lights or flash lights for the bathrooms and was told by the venue staff to get them his “effing self”.
My family and friends helped obtain a generator so we could at least have lights and music and my MIL was screamed at by venue staff for obtaining the generator. They were unhelpful, unprofessional and rude. Also the venue staff member working our event wore a tshirt, shorts and an old ratty baseball cap. Highly reconsider if this venue is one you’re interested in for a wedding reception or event.
DO NOT BOOK THIS PLACE. Unless you have a backup plan if this venue loses power, do not bother wasting your time with the Opera House. Unprofessional, rude customer service and did not attempt to make the situation right when the power went out 1 hour before the reception began... all they told us what is was an act of god and that we should have just canceled.. WHAT?! 1 hour before the wedding reception their answer was TO CANCEL THE VENUE!?! Did absolutely nothing to try and help us make it still work with no power (including AC). Unacceptable for a venue that charges thousands of dollars and hosts the BIGGEST nights of peoples lives. In the end a guest purchased a generator that was able to power some string lights and the DJ booth. The party did proceed to go on with ABSOLUTELY no help from the venue staff. Oh, and cherry on top.. at the end of the night when we asked if we could store the generator there and pick up the next morning, we were told no by the manager Jason and then he processed to flip off several wedding guests when they asked why they couldn't accommodate this request after everything that had happened. (Even offered to pay him for his time the next day) If you need additional proof of this story and how horrible the Opera House was during this time, I'm happy to provide the DJ and Bartenders info to confirm everything.
Beautiful location, times worked great and ability to bring in alot of diff things.
We were very happy with our wedding at the Grand Ledge Opera House. We had an Indian-American fusion wedding so it was important for us to find a venue that would allow us to customize all the aspects of our wedding and work with a lot of outside vendors. GLOH gave us the flexibility to work with our own caterers, bartenders, waitstaff and other vendors so that we could truly make our unique wedding day one of a kind. We rented the whole facility and were there all day. The ceremony was held on the brick terrace over looking the beautiful gardens, and then we had the cocktail hour downstairs and the reception up in the grand ballroom which looked amazing. They were helpful throughout the whole year of planning whenever I had questions and offered recommendations if there was anything they couldn't accommodate themselves. The staff on-site the day of were very nice, relaxed, and helpful. I would highly recommend this venue!
The Opera House was very accommodating to our ideas and vision for our fall wedding. At this venue you can bring in your own caterer, and beverages for guests, which was very cost effective in the long run. Furthermore, we did our own decor, so it was great to have all of the measurements readily available, and have the outside and inside of the venue set with tables and chairs for our big day. The day flowed with ease and that was, in large part, due to the Opera House!
Absolutely beautiful venue. We did terrace level and was perfect. Had 100 guest and was also a perfect amount for the space. They were very willing to work with us and is a definite recommendation from us!
I looked for wedding venues for a long time until I came across the opera house. They had everything I was looking for: bridal suite, able to accommodate 200 people, beautiful landscape and outdoors, overlooking the river, and perfect location. Everybody at me wedding love it and gave me many compliments on my choice. I was a very happy bride and the staff is great.
Our wedding was absolutely splendid here. We opted for the Terrace level with its garden access, which turned out to be an incredibly beautiful choice. The space was great for the number of our guests, accommodating our ceremony perfectly on the patio and the reception, while a little snug inside when the doors were shut, still fit well inside. As a historic location, there are rules to follow, but as we picked the venue first, it was easy to work with those rules to ensure our wedding day went as smoothly as possible. The staff, both in the office and helping the day-of, were excellent and extremely helpful. I'd absolutely recommend the Terrace level for a smaller event and the gardens are absolutely beautiful for a wedding!
The Grand Ledge Opera House was the perfect venue. We rented the Terrace Level and enjoyed the grounds. The staff is wonderful!!
The Grand Ledge Opera house was accommodating to our desires for the most part. Lots of options as far as catering goes so we were able to save on that. They don’t do any decorating, just set up tables according to your choice but Nancy sometimes wants to do it her way with attitude if you do not want them that way. It IS a historical building so they have lots of rules about what you can and cannot serve/bring/use for decorations so as not to damage the walls/carpet ex: no confetti, red wine, red dye, no jello shots specifically which makes sense. Melony and Emily were very helpful in the planning process and offered advice, vender recommendations and were very cheerful thru out the process. Its a beautiful area and the garden and patio is perfect weather permitting. It was hard to find a tent that accommodates the patio as they require no stakes but only buckets with water/sand to hold up the tent and the hours for take down and set up were difficult for renting companies and the opera house didn’t have any ideas for us there. It works and it’s going to be great but it was a little frustrating trying to make everything match the outlines of the contract which I probably should have looked into before hand.
It was a beautiful place, friends from out of state that couldn't make it to the wedding keep telling us how beautiful the place looks, everyone was very helpful and very responsive.
Our August wedding reception was a dream come true! Thanks to the Opera House staff, everything was perfectly placed upon arrival. Our evening went seamless with the hosts ensuring that everything was running smoothly and were standing by all night in case we needed anything at all. All our photos were perfect inside and outside the building. Our guests from our of town kept commenting on it's historical elegance. I truly believe our special day couldn't have been any better.
We chose the Grand Ledge Opera House for my daughter's wedding and couldn't have been happier. The historic building along with the beautiful gardens created a gorgeous backdrop for her special day. We received many comments on what an outstanding venue it was. We found all of the staff to be helpful and polite. I would highly recommend the Grand Ledge Opera House for a day to remember!
The venue is lovely, and if you do it right your wedding will be too. But, I have several suggestions. First, you need to rent the whole venue. We had our wedding outside with the river behind us, but having the reception downstairs would have been cramped and it has the feeling of a basement. Second, the people that work there are anal to put it nicely. They are extremely hard to work with and honestly pretty bitchy a lot of the time. They definitely need some customer service training! Third, DO NOT use their chairs. Yes, renting chairs costs a fortune, but my photographer who had shot many times at the Opera House said my chairs made the venue. The chairs the Opera House provides are dirty, dingy white, and hideous. Many people cover them, but I think it looks tacky. All in all the venue was lovely, but mostly due to the gardens out back and the skills of my wedding planner Kendra Mitchell of Mi Wildflower Weddings. If you use the Opera House, you will need to spend on decor to really develop the potential the space has.
We hosted our wedding outside on the Terrace level as well as our cocktail hour and then we hosted our reception upstairs in the Grand Hall. Everything was lovely. Thank you so much for everything!
My fiance and I chose the GLOH for our reception because of it's beautiful interior and historical value. The staff was very responsive to all of our inquiries. When we arrived to set up the morning of the wedding our floor plan was slightly off, but easily fixed with the help of staff. I would suggest that they update their floor plan online to provide a more accurate account of the room. Overall a very nice time.
We loved this place. Very elegant!!!
It was a beautiful party, everyone really enjoyed the setting right on the river. It was perfect for gorgeous pictures
I am so glad we chose to get married and have our reception here. The staff was beyond amazing and the venue itself is absolutely beautiful.
The opera house was a beautiful venue. We used the outdoor patio on the terrace level for our ceremony only. Our complaint was in the service department. I had asked some questions months prior to our ceremony regarding music and assistance the day of the wedding and despite the answers they told us months before, when we arrived on our wedding day, many of these things became issues. For example, we were told to bring a CD with our ceremony music and that they would have an event coordinator on site to play that for us. When we arrived, however, we were told that we needed to have the playlist on an ipod and that a CD wouldn't work. We were also told that there would be no one provided to play the music for us, and that we would have to find someone on our own.
The Grand Ledge Opera House was the perfect place to get married at! They were very helpful in setting up and tearing down of the wedding, and pretty much let us do what we wanted.
I liked this venue, but ultimately did not opt to use it because of the lack of handicap accessibility.
The venue was awesome! they were great to work with. the only downside was our caterer decided to leave us with the leftover food, when we approached the opera house employee, they said we could leave it until 8 am the next morning. when my parents got there, they had thrown it away. the lack of communication between the workers was not there. other than that issue, everything went perfect!
I would recommend this venue in a heart beat to other brides. The staff were incredibly helpful in getting the information that we needed, including on working with us to get a floor plan that works. The facility is stunning and allows you to bring in whomever you would like for catering and decorating (caterer must prepare food in a licensed kitchen, so you can't bring your own food in). The grounds are well kept and made a great place to do photographs. We took very few at the church so that we could take full advantage of the venue.
Our biggest complaint was that the sample seating arrangements were not to scale, which made it difficult to figure out our seating plan. We had to squeeze a live band and a buffet line plus we rented the theater organ, which put a huge strain on space. We also ran into some poor communication with what we were expected to provide when, but the staff was more than willing answer our questions.
We had such a beautiful time. THANKS!!
The Grand Ledge Opera House has a natural beauty about it so a ton of decorations was not necessary. It is a beautiful and nostalgic place. Their customer service is above and beyond what I expected.
I don't know how to describe how perfect the Opera House was for my wedding. The last thing we wanted was a typical reception hall. This allowed us to celebrate in a unique space. There's a place for the DJ to set up, upstairs in the balcony, which made the sound amazing. They were always there to help and bounce decoration ideas off of and I would recommend the Grand Ledge Opera House to anyone!
I loved the hardwood floors. I also loved the beautiful open feel provided by the old opera house with balconies. I also loved the outside garden area.;If you use this venue, you can only use approved caterers. The opera house charges the caterers a 15%, which most of the caterers end up making you pay because of the opera house's fee.
