Venue- perfect. We were in the grand ballroom which has a balcony, a stage, and enough room for 700 people. Downstairs, there was another event, and we were barely aware of each other! The bridal suite was lovely and the staff was great. Carmela rocks and is easy to work and plan with.
Where to even begin? Planning our wedding with Carmela at the Grand Prospect Hall was an absolute dream. She was patient, made it easy to stick to budget, helped us create a delicious menu and was there to answer every single question we had along the way. Both my husband and I grew up watching the commercials, and honestly, our dreams did come true. Our family and friends loved the venue, and it truly felt magical celebrating with everyone. Special shout-out to Madeline and Thomas - thank you for making sure the night went smoothly. Couldn't recommend this place more!
GPH is a pretty great one-stop shop and they have recommendations/contacts for every aspect of your wedding that you can access. The support we received from Carmella was akin to having a wedding planner, without the added expense. She helped us closely throughout the process and was extremely timely in answering emails. When we had to change the date of our wedding, they were really flexible and worked with us. We had access to the entire second floor and The spaces were great and beautiful (though the atrium was a bit warm). Plenty of room for a robust dance floor. GPH helped us feel at home for this event, helped with last minute changes, and made a great impression!
I had my wedding at The Grand Prospect Hall in July 2017 and would give them more towards 3.5 stars.
Pros: The atrium was a gorgeous place for a ceremony and sat everyone comfortably. The Grand Ballroom is absolutely stunning and was the perfect setting for a wedding. I love all the history, elegance, and character the venue has. There were some great places to take photos (including right outside on the street). Our DJ did uplighting and it made the place look incredible! We had plenty of space to dance and it was nice and spacious for our 185 guests. The cocktail hour was awesome and the food was delicious. It's unreal how many foods are a part of it! The vodka luge was a big hit and even had our names written on it. They knew we liked penguins so they made us giant penguin ice sculptures and carved the fruit into penguins. A lovely touch that our guests adored. The cake was truly magnificent and out of this world- a work of art unlike any I've ever seen! People said the dinner was very good (except maybe the fish option) and alcohol was plentiful. They even made our signature drink for us and displayed the signs we created. Tom was helpful and catered to the bridal party by having a mini cocktail hour set up for us in the bridal suite. We also love Mrs. H!
Cons: Our maitre d, Tom, made a huge error and never put out of our favors which was devastating after having created a whole display and spending hundreds of dollars on champagne bottles for our guests. We were so disappointed to hear that our guests must have left and thought we didn't purchase favors. Also going along with this issue was that they insisted on keeping our guest book with the place cards and then moving it to the favor table later in the night (I didn't like this because I wanted it accessible to guests all night long but they didn't like that idea)...so you know how that went, no favor table meant no guest book reemergence so barely anyone signed our guest book which is terrible. Another huge mistake was that they never put the AC on in the atrium where our ceremony was and it was extremely hot in there (and we had asked many times leading up the wedding that it would be nice and cold as there were guests with medical issues). We almost didn't get married in there but I happened to forget my veil at the hotel which delayed the ceremony and ended up being a saving grace so that the room would slightly cool even though it was still hot which is unacceptable when you're paying that much money for an INDOOR wedding. Also because of AC issues, they ended up changing the groomsmen suite to a different room than the one my groom wanted (the new room was fine but not as photogenic and not what we had planned for).
Overall, we had a wonderful wedding but I hate that it is clouded by these mishaps. I would still recommend the venue if you want a fairy tale setting and luxury but be wary of their mistakes and be on top of them.
My Wedding is in two weeks and I can't wait. I have been working with The Grand Prospect Hall for the past year and they have truly gone above and beyond. They even helped me plan other aspects of my wedding, beyond the venue. Grand Prospect Hall was the first thing i booked once I set my wedding date. I've known I wanted to have my wedding here for a long time. I visited GPH back in 2014 for a corporate function and I was just blown away, the food - the service - the ballroom... WOW!!!!
They have truly made my wedding planing so easy. Cant wait to update everyone after the Honeymoon!! :)
MANAGEMENT CHEATED US/BARTENDERS ARE DISGRACEFUL!!!/SERVICE IS HORRID!
I held my wedding here on 4/25/15. I read negative things about the owners and staff but I believe in seeing for myself. We had a great banquet manager that worked with us leading up to the date however he quit working there with no warning and we found out when we arrived there that day.
Ceremony:
The cell phone of William, (head staff) RANG WHILE WE WERE SAYING OUR VOWS!!
We paid for premium alcohol. At our cocktail hour, they put out only Smirnoff and Absolut. My parents had to go to the office to fix this. It was already 1/2 of the way through the cocktail hour, as we were upstairs greeting guests after our ceremony.
As the bride I had one request from this hall regarding service and that was NO TIP JARS. I abhor tip jars-tasteless, rude, embarrassing. We were told there would "absolutely not be any tip jars." Bartenders were sticking their hand in and motioning to guests to tip. My father came into the cocktail hour and was enraged. He was directed to go into the office and deal with management. He did so and the tip jars were STILL not removed. My husband's mother was told by William (head staff), that if the tip jars were removed the bartenders would walk off the job. Slow service and long lines at the bar too.
There is a female bartender there that didn't know (or just didn't care) how to make drinks (ie martinis)
Waitstaff: Rude, yell at guests, no clue about the food.
Thomas (Matre D) is fantastic. Truly a great guy. The bridal attendant (forgot her name) also great.
My father wrote a letter to the hall expressing all of this and more. They never replied. We were betrayed and taken advantage of. This hall preys on your vulnerability when you are caught up in the excitement of your affair.
My family just wanted what we paid for. Nothing more, nothing less. We offered to pay whatever it cost to ensure this. I had a great time but now it's over and I am devastated and embarrassed with the need to explain myself to my guests. Believe me, you don't want that to be any part of the aftermath of your affair. Steer clear.
We used Grand Prospect Hall for our reception only. For the price it's alright. We needed something that was close by, convenient for our guests because many of them can't travel too far.
The planner Denise was nice, she explained a lot of things. The only issue was she canceled appointments without letting us know. Also the owner's wife called us for last deposit and told us we had to pay day before the wedding or there might be issues the day of, not sure what she meant by that. The hall decor and the ballroom stole the show. Absolutely beautiful, beyond it.
Our matire'D Tom was also awesome, he was there the entire night. Anything anyone needed he made sure it was done. The only issue the day of was the air conditioning, what the hell was up with that. There was not enough AC, I thought I was going crazy since my outfit did weight about five hundred pounds.
My new husband and I fell in love with this place the second we walked in...it's definitely an acquired taste but we loved the romantic victorian feel. From the minute we walked through the door they treated us like royalty and showed us an amazing menu...all that stopped once the contract was signed. Throughout the planning process our coordinator quit but the hall wouldn't tell us this; instead they made up excuses about why she wasn't available until finally they told me she left when I showed up for the tasting...after about 3 months of trying to reach her. Our wedding was now being handled by the owner Alice, who i was told is better then her husband. She was nice so long as everything was easy for her...we didn't ask for any discounts or special favors and did everything as told to us and WRITTEN on our contract by the original coordinator. Alice chose not to honor the contract because she felt it was "too much food" for our 140person wedding. It was a russian wedding...which is traditionally known for having an abundance of food hence her "russian menu" option. She also tried to switch some of the name brand liquor on us until my husband stood his ground. She made everything seem like she was going out of her way to do us a favor while we were paying good money and simply asking for what was in black and white in front of us. We were also asked to pay $200 extra for our wedding cake because we wanted fandant (even though we specifically asked if it was included in the price and were told yes). After paying and giving specific pictures of what we want our cake to look like...the cake we got was embarrassing. Looked nothing like what we wanted and was just poorly made with seams clearly visible. The night went smoothly and the food was good but the service we received for more then a year leading up to the day was AWFUL! If felt like i was walking on eggshells in a place I PAYED for. They wouldn't even let us arrive at the hall as early as we wanted for pictures because they didn't see the need for us to be there so soon. I had to tell the assistant 2 days before when we were coming and hold my breath hoping that it would be ok. If they fix their people skills this can truly be a beautiful experience for people.
This venue was perfect. I had the time of my life, the commercial stands true "where all my dreams came true". The staff is wonderful and very perfessionl. They your ideas and traditions and incorporate them in every way possible. My wedding day was perfect, I would not have done anything differently. If your deciding between GPH and any place else. Choose GPH you will not be disappointed!!!
This place is a little jewel in Brooklyn. Everything was absolutely beautiful and we've gotten so many compliments on the hall-both for how gorgeous it was and the food!
When my husband and I began looking for halls, they were by far the most accommodating to all of our cultural aspects(Huge Mexican wedding, 300guests). Everything was perfect, from the food, which people can't stop talking about, to our signature cocktail, and the service. Oh, and the cake, which they handle, Red Velvet, was absolutley delicious. Denise, who was the manager handling our wedding was great and Thomas the Maitre'D was so quick to every one of my requests. Both my husband and I were truly happy with our choice.
It was a landmark with a wonderful story to tell my guest. The owners are a wonderful brooklyn family who understood the intercultural issues I had (expecially considering how culturaly diverse brooklyn is. The venue was spacious and unbelievable beautiful elegant and eclectic. I had a LARGE choice of venues. Plus the painting on the wall were gorgeous. The price was very reasonable. It was a Manhattan event in the heart of brooklyn.;Don't expect a tasting menu. MAKE SURE your vendors are insured! They are very strict about that.
