There are a ton of dresses here, but a lot of them are samples and can’t be ordered in different sizes only what’s on the rack. However I acknowledge the huge selection.
Greta is very very pushy she was following us to the door when we were leaving still trying to make a sale. She was alsobblatantly rude and body shamed me the entire time, literally pointing at my butt saying it wouldn’t fit in anything below a certain size. At one point she ripped a dress out of my hand because she didn’t think it would fit me. She then proceeded to direct me to dresses that were 4-5 sizes bigger than I am and only made me try on gowns that hung off of me like a trash bag they were so big. The other store associates were very nice and sweet, though.
Greta saved the day before my wedding day last year!! She did an absolutely perfect job pressing my ballgown dress! Greta agreed to help with late notice after my original plan fell through and I was traveling in from out of town after carrying my dress which was very wrinkled. She did a meticulous job with a difficult fabric and even consulted with the store where I bought the dress to be sure she handled everything correctly. She also personally delivered my dress to the Morris Inn, helped take it out of the bag and make sure everything still looked ok after moving the dress. She was also so kind and attentive throughout the process. I am so grateful for Greta and would HIGHLY recommend her if you need help pressing a wedding dress. She also helped my dad with renting a tux because he wanted to be able to try it on locally the week before my wedding since he lives out of town. Greta was very accommodating and helpful and he really enjoyed working with her too!
Worst experience ever! At first, I thought everything was great. I found my dress here and was told by Greta that if we paid in full we would get other discounts. Well we didn’t plan on finding a dress that day but did. So we paid half down and was told we had 5 days to pay the remainder and as soon as it was paid then the dress would be ordered. No big deal. Well Greta took my measurements for my dress and said that it had to be ordered because they don’t alter that designers dresses. No problem with that. So she checked my measurements three times to be sure they were accurate. Not much has to be done except a little bit on the sides as well as the length. Well I went back 4 days later and paid the balance in cash to one of the workers there. I did have the balance incorrect and was still short so I called my mother to let her know and it was taken care of over the phone. With my mom on the phone the last proceeds to let me know that the dress has been paid for in full and that Greta was in the process of ordering it. Ok great! Well she then says that she doesn’t have any way to give receipts for cash but has it marked as paid and the dress is on order. I watched her mark it paid. My fault for not insisting on getting a receipt of some sort but thinking this is a very reputable place, didn’t think there would be a problem. Well my dress came in and when I went in to try it on, it was bigger then the original dress I tried on. Greta tried saying that I must have lost weight or something because it was the same size as the one I tried on. Well there was no way plus I was originally told my measurements were taken so the dress would come fit to me. Not even close! She then tells me I need to get with her seamstress to get it altered, all while she’s trying to push me to pick out a veil immediately so it doesn’t sell out. She was getting very pushy. Then she comes back and says there’s also a balance due on your dress. I informed her that it was paid in full and how much was paid when. She said until it was paid I couldn’t take the dress so I took the info for the seamstress and left. I met with the seamstress and she was appalled at how big my dress was. She did great work and had to end up taking it in almost 2” on each side, fix a couple other areas on the front and back of the dress, and had to replace the pads put in the dress because they did not fit properly and were messed up. We went ahead with alterations with her and she said she would get with Greta on the cost because she felt as well that the dress should’ve fit better. We went to The final fitting and the dress fit great thanks to the seamstress. The seamstress then gives us the total. After taking it over, we did pay her because this was by no means her fault and she did a great job. Then we went back to Greta and she still insisted we had a balance due and said the lady that posted the payment on my dress was no longer there. Hmm weird. Greta then says she will split the remaining balance with us. At this point I’m ready to walk out and go get one of a rack somewhere else because I’m so livid. Meanwhile she’s still pushing for me to get a veil, not happening! My mom ended up splitting it and paying it even though I wanted to leave. I did end up with the dress I wanted, thanks to the seamstress, but I would never recommend this place, ever! I really wish I would’ve taken my business to someone who appreciated it and was more organized! Save the hassle and go elsewhere!
Greta and Anita are so talented at what they do! They have a ton of inventory and variety, and really help you one-on-one. I was nervous about wedding dress shopping and they were incredibly helpful and really understood what I was looking for. While I ended up finding my dress at another store, my experience at Greta's was by far the best!
This place is amazing! All the women working are incredible at their jobs and made me feel so at ease right from the start. They nailed it with the first dress I put on! Tons to choose from and all very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone!
On Saturday I said yes to my dress at Greta’s! The whole experience was so personal and special as I got to bring my mother, future mother in law, and future sister in law with me. We had our own private room complete with a seating area, mirrors, and dressing room so we all could stay in one place! I worked with Anita and I do not have enough words to describe how amazing she is! She is southern like my family, sweet, kind, funny, and so helpful. She made sure we all had the best time and that I looked my best while trying on dresses as she would complete the look with a veil and/or headpiece. She truly is the best and I love her! The bridal boutique is very clean and Covid friendly as they are by appt. only, you get your own room, and they maintain social distancing. I said yes to my dress and veil and I couldn’t be happier! :)
The gowns are absolutely amazing, they were so sweet and accommodating. Anita helped me find the perfect dress for my wedding. I told her I wasn't good at judging from the hanger and when she showed me a dress I turned it down but she said I should try it and she was so spot in. It was my dress, my sister in law gasped when she saw it, I hadn't even seen it in the mirror, my mom teared up, and I couldn't stop smiling. Then Anita added the perfect veil, I teared up, my sil teared up, and my mom started crying. Anita was so sweet, listened to what I wanted or thought I wanted, her knowledge was a lifesaver, she helped me feel absolutely beautiful and I can't wait for my day. If you want to have an amazing dress shopping experience go there, there was no pressure, so many options, they treated me like a Queen. The perfect boutique for me. I couldn't have asked for a more amazing moment than what Anita made happen for me and my family
After going to one bridal store and then coming here I felt more at ease with Anita. She made it so easy from the very start. I found my dress that day and she was so quick to grab my phone and take pictures of a special moment between my mom and I when I finally found the one. Greta was also so amazing when making sure all the measurements were perfect. If I could give Gretas Bridal more stars I would.
Greta was amazing from the beginning of our process. My bride found her dress with Greta and she searched online and several other boutiques and no luck, but Greta came thru! Greta also provided me with tux options that nobody else had as I shopped for quality and price. During Covid, she kept everyone comfortable and we would highly recommend her to anyone!
Greta helped me find my perfect dress (and at the last minute)! I thought I needed to go to Chicago to find a dress I liked, but this shop has a great selection (and at great prices). I tried on so many beautiful dresses. Greta was unbelievably helpful in offering suggestions for what to try on and for alterations. She really went the extra mile to make sure my dress arrives on time. I was impressed with the level of service and how at ease she made me feel during the process.
I am so happy I bought my wedding dress from Greta's. Greta kind, honest, and soo funny! She has been in the wedding biz for several years, so she knows what's up. My dress turned out incredible. Her seamstress did a wonderful job and I couldn't be happier with how I looked in that gown ;)
My wife used Greta's for her bridesmaids' dresses as they had the most competitive price. Unfortunately, we really regret picking them to provide the dresses due to the following reasons:
1) We had SIX bridesmaids in the bridal party - all SIX had issues with the dresses. We were told that all SIX of the bridesmaids "had their measurements change." Mind you, not the girls weren't even remeasured when they came in for fitting so it seems like they weren't measured correctly. We'd understand if one or two of the girls' dresses had issues but not all SIX to be too small.
2) Alterations were obviously required but the cost wasn't discussed until it was needed. Additionally, the person who did the alterations was only available on Tuesdays. In other words, not only was this an undiscussed expense for all of the bridesmaids, it was a terrible inconvenience for the girls that live a couple of hours away. They made it seem like they were going to cover the alternations since the girls were unable to order new dresses (or else the girls wouldn't have drove there), but in the end the girls had to drive a distance and pay another $100.
3) They told a bridesmaid that "she needed to lose weight to fit into the dress before the wedding." The same bridesmaid had asked to order an extra long dress due to being tall and needing that in the past. They refused, told the bridesmaid that she didn't need that. When the dress came in, it was too short, to which the staff replied, "You lied about your height." This is ridiculous as this bridesmaid was a former collegiate athlete who was sure of her height and knew the modifications that were required but was ignored.
4) Staff complained about a bridesmaid to another bridesmaid about her work schedule and how difficult it was to make an appointment (she worked nights). This is just stupid. Why would you speak poorly about another customer to a customer who knows them?
5) One of our bridesmaid was told to "talk to the bride and tell her not to leave us a bad review." When you recognize that you provided bad service, you do something to remedy that and not ask to avoid a "bad review."
We'd recommend to anyone to look elsewhere for their dresses even if its more expensive as this experience was a headache for all involved.
I went to Greta’s this last weekend to shop for a destination wedding gown and a wedding gown is what I found! Anita helped me find exactly what I was looking for! It’s very easy to get lost in the amount of beautiful dresses that they have. When it came down to it, with my vision and my price range Anita found me the perfect beach wedding dress. I recommend Anita to everyone, she listens to what you have in mind and picks out the perfect dresses for you to pick from!
Loved my dress...it was perfect!
We had a great experience at Greta's. Don't let the fact that the building and show room isn't flashy fool you. They have a great variety of dresses and were able to take what I liked and didn't like and helped me find my dress. I bought almost everything there, and couldn't have been happier.
For my wedding I used all local vendors. I tried to make a conscious effort to keep all of my money in the town and surrounding areas where I lived. The only vendor that disappointed me was Greta's. The dress buying experience wasn't the worst part, but the service following. I ordered a sash for my dress to match my bride's maid dresses (which I also purchased at Greta's), but it was ordered in the wrong color and I was blamed for not being specific enough. When they had to hand make the sash because it was just weeks before my wedding, they half-assed it and poorly sewed one together. It was falling apart before I even put it on, on my wedding day. The bride's maid dresses were another fiasco. One of my girls (out of 7) had the wrong size ordered, and all of them were poor quality. I do realize that Greta's did not make the dress, however, at $150 per dress you would think that the seams wouldn't be popping. Greta never once admitted she was wrong or apologized when something went wrong. I would not recommend buying here unless it was an emergency.
Greta is great and cares about all her brides!! She found my dress the first time and I fell in love. They kept me informed every step of the way and made it easy to not worry about my dress since I was planning from out of town. Our alternations were very very cheap compared to other places and she was excellent at listening to anything I wanted. It was a great value as well! I found my dress at another vendor and it was over $200 more.
Greta's had so many dresses to choose from. I felt like I was the only one that mattered when I was trying to find my dress. When I first went I had a vision in my mind, but soon found out that it was not for me. The woman brought some other styles for me to try on and I soon found out what I liked and what I looked good in.
I went to a couple of different shops with my mother-in-law to be but was very disappointed in what these shops had compared to Greta's.
Went back to Greta's and said yes to the dress!
My mother in law and I started out at a popular wedding gown shop and decided to keep looking. We decided to try Greta's and I was very impressed. Unlike the cheap, poorly made dresses at the commercial retailer, the dresses at Greta's were quality. I spent a bit more than I had planned to, but my dress was like something from a fairytale. I loved it. The prices were a little high, but not as bad as some stores in the area. My only complaint is that at times the professionalism between employer and employees was a bit lacking. I could deal with that, though. My dress was amazing, as was were my bridal party's dresses. I was very pleased.
Greta's was the first (and last!) place I tried on gowns. I went a few weeks after our engagement just to get an idea of what was out there, what styles looked good on my figure. I had pulled some pictures from bridal mags, but did not have a dress or even style I was set on -- which I think made my experience at Greta's better. I ended up buying the second dress I tried on! Dorothy looked at the pictures I had brought in, said she had something, went into the racks and came back with the gown. It was a Casablanca from a few years back, but was beautiful. I ordered the dress almost a full year before the wedding, and it came in well ahead of time which was nice. My qualms with service are as follows: the store is sometimes hectic and looks disorganized. If you're expecting a 'Say Yes to the Dress' salon experience, this is not it. That said, the price is right-- I was more concerned with getting a beautiful dress for a good price than with having a TV show experience trying it on. The alterations procedure is a little odd. You work with a sort of freelance seamstress arranged through Greta's staff. Greta's books the initial appointment, but then you deal directly with the seamstress, while meeting at Greta's. It makes for a bit of confusion in terms of scheduling -- seems like sometimes there's double booking, overbooking, etc. My seamstress did a fine job with taking in the bodice and hemming -- but she definitely seemed overwhelmed by workload to the point of discouraging me from making some alterations I asked about, i think in the interest of saving some time. (e.g i asked about adding a wrist loop under the dress to hold it up while walking, she said it would be bustled so I didn't need it -- but this strap would have been for walking to the car to get to/from ceremony before bustling so... I ended up using the hanger strap that was already on the dress)I did take the dress to a seamstress in my hometown in NJ when I arrived the week before the wedding to have some little things done. I could have worn the dress straight from Greta's seamstress' work, but it wouldn't have been PERFECT which is what you want. Overall, though, I would definitely give Greta's a change -- if you are flexible, and want to get a good deal, it's a great option!
I had a horrid experience when I first started shopping for my gown...as I am a more mature bride, I seriously had my heart broken at David's Bridal. I walked into Gretas believing that I shouldn't disclose my role while I was looking. Leah helped me that day and from the second we spoke, she knew I was a bride and she made me feel like a million bucks. I not only had a great experience but she personalized it and I found the "say yes to the dress" and purchased it on the spot. All dresses need alterations and Diane was the seamstress that made alterations fun and easy. Amazingly sweet. Now we come to Greta. She stepped in and also made it very personal and wonderful. A staff of amazing and helpful, supportive, and may I say loving people who made my wedding experience the best I could have ever imagined! My wedding is in a week and a half in Disney. I will be wearing not only a beautiful dress...but one that has with it the most wonderful experience as a bride looking for her perfect gown. I actually will miss them all and the only sad part is that my experience is done as I picked up that perfect dress yesterday. I appreciate them and hold them dear to my heart. I will recommend this location and this staff to anyone and everyone. Thank you Greta, Leah, and Diane for touching my heart so with your attention and caring helpfulness. You are sooooo appreciated!
I loved the dress from Greta's. The only concern was the seamstress. I had to have three fittings until she ran out of time to correct the dress. Then on my wedding day she left a needle in the dress and I pricked myself. Additionally, other brides were complaining about the nightmare seamstress even my mother had issues. Great dresses, but you may want to get it altered elsewhere.
i saw a picture of the blush divina dress from maggie sottero and had to have it. i checked stores from all of northern indiana, southern michigan, and chicago and not one store had the dress. gretta's called me back to tell me that they were planning on getting the dress. so when i finally got to try it on it was the white divina maggie sottero with the fabric bow belt and i hated it. i just really wanted the dress in blush with the beaded belt. i was nervous to purchase a dress i really wasn't able to see on my body and when it came in....i fell in love! the dress was gorgeous. the downfall was the alterations and fittings. the dress was just a little too big and they would not alter it to my body. the alterations person said that she just doesn't do that. so she lifted the hem and added padding to the boobs, but it would have been nice for her to just take it in 1 to 2 inches. also, when the dress came in, it was covered in safety pins to hold the ruffles on the skirt on to the dress. the dress is absolutely gorgeous. i really wouldn't say that gretta's was awesome, because i picked out my dress...they just happen to be the only place selling. so lucky them.
Everything was so personalized and focused on me. Great environment, helpful staff and beautiful selection of dresses! Ask for Nina, she made my experience one of kind and something I will always remember when I see my dress!
There were many many options. I loved all of the service I received except when I came back in to try on my dress they could not find it in the store. Their storage is very unorganized. Eventually they did find my dress and everything was fine. The seamstress there was very helpful, she fixed everything on my dress I needed.
I found my dream dress here so I'm happy with that. They have a pretty good selection, only problem was their service wasn't the best.
I found my dress, but Greta is very confrontational and rude. She was uncomfortable to deal with, and I was frustrated with the whole experience. Also, the alterations weren't great.
I got pretty much my dream dress for less than $300 which was very important since I had a very small budget. It was so gorgeous and I loved it! I received so many compliments. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The only thing was the very slow shipping time even with a rush on the order.
The selection at Greta's was huge, and amazing! They had the most up to date dresses and styles. The customer service was great as well. The girl who helped me was awesome! I told her the style that I wanted/was looking for, and she brought in a dress that wasnt what I thought I wanted. Well, I'm really glad she did, because that was the dress I bought!!! The ones I thought I wanted really didnt look right on me, and the one she picked was perfect! The only thing about Greta's that was not so good was the price of alterations. I would say to find a private party to do alterations instead, any bridal store is going to charge an arm and a leg!
Always helpful and wanted to make sure that it was exactly what you really wanted. Greta herself was always in on the process and made sure you were happy. Greta even call to confirm appointments...AFTER HOURS!!!! :)
I found the dress of my dreams at this salon! However, working with the staff was an absolute nightmare. The consultant basically called me fat, offering to try on dresses that they only had in smaller sizes FOR ME (I'm a size 8...)!!! I couldn't believe her! They were rude and short and provided horrible customer service to me after I paid for my dress. I had planned on getting my alterations done there and ordering bridesmaid dresses from them. When one of my maids and I went to browse, our consultant took us to a room, left us alone, and never came back. We carried dresses to our own dressing room, tried them on ourselves, searched for swatches ourselves, etc all the while, no staff member offered to help us. Needless to say, I took my dress and got alterations elsewhere (a fabulous little boutique in South Bend called Bridal Boutique by Peg Ann) as well as my bridesmaid dresses! Beware!
I went in with intentions on getting an ivory dress with sleeves, the salesperson I worked with made me go out of my comfort zone and it was well worth it. I received hugs from the owner. I would definitely advise to make an appointment. I told them at the time of the appointment what my budget is. They did not high pressure me into going beyond.
My Mom and I went in to Greta's to start shopping for a dress. Within an hour and a half I had picked out and bought my dress! The consultant working with us was wonderful and really listened to what I was looking for. She didn't try pushing me into a more expensive gown or something that I didn't want. The alterations were done perfectly the first time around and the tailor put in little extra things that I asked for- like pockets. I bought my dress off the floor for about $500 because it was from a previous season and no longer manufactured. It looked perfect for my wedding day!
The staff at Greta's was wonderful. I was less than excited about shopping for a wedding dress as a 43 year old plus size bride. I wanted sleeves, no train, and the ability to wear my normal undergarments (because of my size). Just as importantly, I really wanted something that was age appropriate. I went to more than 10 shops in my search and found 1 shop where I felt like I was treated like I was a bride that deserved to look good on my wedding day and that was willing to help find what I wanted without making me feel belittled or dismissed.
The first day I walked in to Greta's was because I happened to be in the area and Dorothy was great. She was funny, respectful, and made me feel comfortable. She never questioned what I was looking for or tried to put me in some dress that I was going to hate or that looked bad on me. I went back 3 days later after going to 7 more shops and bought my dress off the rack. It didn't fit, but the seamstress assured me that we could put in the lace up I wanted and it would be just fine. I worked with 4 different staff at the shop and drove 1.5 hours each way every time I went to South Bend to have a fitting and I wouldn't change my decision for anything in the world. They made me feel comfortable and not like I was inconveniencing them with my special requests and larger size. The day of my wedding the dress fit wonderfully and my uncle actually commented that it was the most beautiful plus size wedding dress he has ever seen. I take that as one of the best compliments I could have gotten on my dress. I worked very hard to have a dress that would compliment my larger size and my uncle's comment solidified that with the help of Greta and her staff we found that perfect dress for my special day. Greta and her staff were the reason I bought my dress there and the work they did and their service is why I felt beautiful in my dress on my wedding day!
Wow, my dress stunned my guests, and it was affordable. People asked me if I traveled to a big city to get it, but no, just the little, home town bridal shop :) My veil was also from Greta's, and it was beautiful, and my alterations were perfect. Good selection and great prices. The staff is also very helpful and accomodating. I would definitely recommend this shop.
They were pushy, rude, and not at all understanding. Dress shopping was hard for me since I had a bad experience.. and I wasn't ready but they kept insisting that I tried on dresses. When I got upset they acted like there was something wrong with me ... NOT helpful or understanding at all. I wouldn't go there for anything.
We went there after Stephenson's in Elkhart, and we were not impressed at with their service. After waiting for a while we were finally helped and then not helped at all.
Greta's was my second stop for wedding dress shopping and where I ultimately purchased my dress. The ladies were super friendly and we had a nice large private dressing room for myself, my mom and BM's. They have a nice selection, and most of their dresses are on the lower end of budget while still having a nice quality.
We did have a few glitches with them however. First, they sized me that day and when I came back the next day to pay for the dress, the owner wanted me to try the dress on again and measure me again. Apparently, the first lady had written down the wrong size, and the dress would have been too small! Also, when the dress arrived, I had a question about the length (it was custom made to my height because I am short) and the owner berated the employee in front of me, and called the seamstress to come back into work (she had just left) even when I told her it wasn't a big deal because I wasn't planning on using their alterations department.
However, I did end up having to use their alterations department, and the lady was very nice and everything was one in a timely matter. Unfortunately, on the day of the wedding, my coordinator went to do my bustle, and the ribbon immediately broke. We "fixed" it as best we could, but it ruined our choreographed first dance because the dress was too long and I kept stepping on it and breaking beads. I also slipped and almost fell during the dance!
My wedding dress is absolutely fabulous. BUT..I took my shoes in to be dyed on March 31st (my wedding was June 25th) and Greta's told me it would take 1 to 2 weeks to dye. The next week I got a call to come pick up my shoes. I drove to South Bend (I live in Chesterton, its about an hour drive) and my shoes hadn't been touched. Greta's gave me a ton of excuses about how the lady who dyes the shoes works a lot of hours at her other job and has 5 kids and blah blah blah. They didn't have my shoes completed until the Thursday before my wedding. Also, they gave one of our Groomsman a BLUE vest and tie, when our colors are pink and orange. They refused to do anything about it until I called pretty much in tears and scolded them that they needed to. They fixed it but one of our Groomsman had to drive an hour to South Bend the day of the wedding to pick it up.
Greta's is a great place to get your dress, tuxes and other formal wear. The staff is great. I had no problems with any of my orders or alterations. Everything turned out perfectly and the have a very large selection! I wouldn't have done anything different!
There were times I felt rushed when trying on items.
Shopping for your bridal gown is one of those things that you look forward to all your life, and too be honest, going through Greta's, all I wanted was for that "experience" to be over. The day I picked up my dress and felt a sigh of relief knowing I didn't have to deal with them anymore. They made false promises, lost appointments, put appointment customers behind walk-ins, didn't communicate properly, and overall weren't ideal. When I first went in, (in July of last year...VERY HOT outside) they had no air conditioning, so going in and out of heavy gowns, and sweating...not a good feeling. Then when I bought my dress was promised a discount, I am still waiting for that so-call discount. I can say this, my dress was gorgeous. And it was affordable, so thank you for that. Other than that, would never recommend.
I found my dress here, and was extremely happy with the one. The seamstress was excellent in service and quality of her job, but unfortunately the service in the rest of the shop was less than ideal. We were from out of town, and there were several disconnects and poor customer service.
I looked all over for my wedding dress and finally found it at Greta's. I absolutely loved my dress and received so many compliments on it. They had a great selection in the shop and the prices were very reasonable. I gave them a 4 just because it did get a little crazy in there sometimes with all the customers crammed into a smaller space. Other than that I highly recommend Greta's.
