Last, but definitely not least, the owner of Helga's, Michael is amazing to work with, he makes you feel like a dear friend, rather than just another wedding client. Bottom line, if delicious food is one of your main wedding priorities, go with Helga's!

intimidated about the prospect of finding a caterer who could accommodate a completely gluten-free menu, and from the very beginning Michael, the owner, assured me that it would be easy to do, which made me feel safe and relaxed enough to enjoy everything on our menu. We got to customize our menu and Michael was even open to making a Paraguayan family recipe for us; when we opted to have my sister make it instead using my grandmother’s recipe, he was incredibly gracious and the staff even heated and cut our family dish. He made sure we could serve exactly what we wished, and as if that weren’t enough, his staff took incredible care of my husband and me throughout the day. We had a buffet dinner and they offered to make a plate for us, and they checked on us repeatedly to make sure we had plenty of booze and water, too. We ordered cake from a gluten-free bakery, and because we ordered two kitchen cakes, they had those precut and ready to go so our guests could dig in right after we cut the display cake. They plated the display cake quickly, too, and I was able to share a piece of all three flavors with my husband because they made sure mealtime went very smoothly! Cleanup was so quick that I didn’t even notice it happening, and they boxed everything up perfectly, including the top layer of our cake. If you want to serve food that you and your guests love AND you want to make sure everyone is beautifully cared for along the way, we highly recommend Helga’s Catering.

The food was delicious, and I received many compliments from wedding guests. Throughout, they accommodated all of my questions, requests, and schedule and made great suggestions. We met with some other caterers who had over the top showrooms (and matching prices) but Helga's food spoke for itself. From the tasting to the post wedding clean-up, I couldn't have asked for more.

e absolutely wonderful the day of the wedding. We had a brunch wedding, and everything was delicious. They were amazing about working in all the small details we wanted to include (homemade banana breads for each table, mini doughnuts for place cards), and made everything easy. They were affordable and professional, and we couldn't recommend them more highly.

We also had Indian food catered that was delivered and Helga's did a great job of making sure it was handled properly. Not only did Helga's handle food, they also helped with setting up/take down chairs for our outdoor ceremony, have bartenders who did phenomenal job making the bar area look professional, clean and inviting. One of our important requests is that we wanted no lines at the bar -- we did not want people to socialize in line. They made sure the line was only a couple of people long.

We did have one issue pre-wedding, though, when a few days before our wedding they asked us where our ceremony is taking place even though we had clearly already gone over this. Compounding the issue, a woman at Helga's - I believe it was Lynda - was patronizing and spoke to my wife like she was being crazy when my wife was reasonably concerned that such an important question was being asked so close to the event. We got it squared away and the night went off almost without a hitch. I say almost because by the end of the night we were all getting our drinks served in red solo and styrofoam cups because they ran out of glasses. I'm not one to get bent out of shape at such things, it was toward the end of the night and we were having a blast, but when we're paying you thousands of dollars for a service the last thing I expect is get drinks served in disposable cups. Even with those hiccups, though, I would still recommend Helga's as they were reasonably priced (DC services can be just stupidly expensive), did a good job, and our guests were hitting the buffet for seconds (a good sign when it comes to food).

Michael went above and beyond working with us to build the perfect menu for our wedding, even going as far as to create new menu items to allow us to encompass unique appetizers that held special memories for my husband and I. He was also amazingly patient in working with us to get all we wanted for the wedding in the budget we could afford (including pre-ceremony drinks, late night snacks, etc.). I wanted to be super involved with everything and Michael was ok with that, even letting me go and meet with their distributors so I could see what our tables, chairs, place settings, etc. would look like so there would be no surprises. The day of our wedding everything went perfect and tasted wonderful. I would recommend them to family and friends in a heartbeat.

We had a chicken entrée stuffed with spinach with marinara sauce, salmon with yogurt dill sauce, vegetable orzo, green beans, rolls, and strawberry spinach salad. It was light and perfect for a hot outdoor July winery wedding. My friends all raved about the food, and I still get comments about how good it was even three months later! I would highly recommend Helga's to anyone for both the quality of their food and service and how easy and friendly they were to deal with.

e were excited to see that they were able to provide a variety of mini desserts - including ones that we suggested! Helga’s served Banana pudding trifle, key lime tartlets, and chocolate mousse. Everyone loved the mini desserts and most people had more than one, which was our intention! The rehearsal dinner was a delicious Greek feast complete with Baklava dessert. People went back for seconds and thirds and we had a little leftover to eat the next day. The service was awesome. The Helga’s staff person took care of everything from planning, preparing food, restocking the buffet, and even grilling the kebobs on site! The reception dinner was also amazing. The salmon wrapped in puff pastry is something people are still talking about a month later. And as a busy bride that night, that was one of the only things I ate, and it was amazing. They set up the buffet to look beautiful, and their service was impeccable. everyone was friendly and polite and helpful and they made everything run smoothly. They also were kind enough to move the tables at the end of the night to help us prepare for brunch the next day. Lynda was helpful in advising us on signature cocktails. We used their bartending services, and everyone received their drinks quickly and loved all three cocktails that were offered. We also had mocktails for the kids, which was a big hit. We used their table linens and napkins and everything looked beautiful. Michael provided advice about planning, scheduling, and working out numerous last minute details. As an example, we needed help coordinating what size tables and where they should go, for both people and food. Michael coordinated with both us and Briar Patch to figure everything out. It was so helpful to know that they had worked with Briar Patch before and had everything under control. Helga's catering service was awesome and we would recommend them to everyone! The food was outstanding, the superb service was catered to our needs, and the value was outstanding.

Not only was the food incredible but the service was bar-none. The owners went out of their way to make sure everything was perfectly placed and timed for both the rehearsal dinner and the reception. We couldn't have been happier with Helga's Caterers and we strongly recommend anyone who is having an upcoming wedding to have Helga's cater! It is expensive but when compared to other caterers it's pretty reasonable and you get what you pay for.

His attention to detail and sincere willingness to make you live in that moment is authentic and refreshing. They seemed to have a sixth sense about our needs, as their client. Helga’s held our guests in awe: from the crisp, color-coordinated linens and the perfectly-creased napkins, to the evenly sliced tender beef sirloin and miniature crab cakes (with a *delicious* remoulade sauce). The blended drinks were delightfully smooth, and accentuated with an array of freshly-manicured summer fruits. The entire combination was better than we could have dreamt. To have such an elite caterer provide an exceptional meal with bartending for a reasonable price is unheard of nowadays. My husband and I had a very tight budget and footed 95% of our wedding costs, so we felt deep relief when Mike assured us of his willingness and ability to help create a 5-star menu within our meager budget. Unlike other caterers have done with friends, Helga’s didn’t surprise us with hidden costs/overhead. For Helga’s, their focus was on the food and satisfying the client. Working with Helga’s Caterers was like working with family – even better, in fact! We are so very grateful. We chose Helga's after The Briar Patch B&B advertised a special package deal that included appetizers, the main course, china and linen rentals, and the waitstaff/bartender we needed! We never met in person before the wedding day and I'd never even gotten to try the food we selected, but what an incredible experience! Helga's Caterers went above and beyond both before and after the wedding. Their staff was fun, helpful and attentive every step of the way, the place settings were beautiful, the food DELICIOUS, and their event staff really rolled with the punches! My brother surprised my husband with a keg of root beer soda, and we didn't tell Helga's that it was coming (oversight!). Without skipping a beat, the bartender tapped the keg and started serving root beer. When another family member showed up with unplanned ice cream at the reception to make root beer floats, Helga's staff started preparing floats and table serving them to our guests! My family and friends had rave reviews about the food, but I can't express enough how big of a role Helga's Catering played in making our day so incredibly special even down to the smallest detail. They went above and beyond to provide a fun experience for our guests, and I would highly recommend them for future events!

nch Style service, the appetizers’ were passed during our cocktail hour and each table was assigned their own wait staff to serve them at their designated tables. The food was not plated ahead of time, but served from warm platters at the tables for each guest. This was much more elegant than if it had been plated in the back then brought out to each guest. We had an antipasti bar set up during the cocktail hour, the display was stunning! There were large baskets set up with loaves of Italian breads and fresh bagettes, olives, cheese,dried meats, crackers, and fresh fruit. The staff was attentive, professional, and went above and beyond by saving hors d'oeuvres from cocktail hour for my daughter and her husband to take back to their room to enjoy after the reception was over. The place settings were beautiful and went along with the theme of the wedding colors. We couldn't have been happier with Helga's, Michael and his team. On a side note, I work for a large company in Northern Virginia and have used them on several occasions for executive events. Helga’s never fails to impress!

When we went to meet Michael for a test tasting, the little restaurant we met at put me off at first. But after we met Michael and tasted the food, I was completely impressed. At the time they didn't have many photos of cakes they'd done, but he said they could do anything I wanted and to send photos of what I wanted. I was again a little wary, but like I said, we didn't have a lot of money to spend on a cake. They worked with us professionally and punctually before the wedding and didn't provide me MORE stress. When we arrived at our reception, the food spread looked beautiful, and the cake was GORGEOUS. They stared out as a bakery, by the way. And they've been on T.V. for their great food, as well. Oh, and they also let us bring our own alcohol for the bar which they managed perfectly. Anyway, they were dressed professionally and just made everything wonderful behind the scenes. I was nervous about how the cake would taste,even though it was beautiful. We had a red velvet cake (I know, white dress and red velvet...). I've never tasted a better red velvet in my life, it was delicious, moist, and I wish I'd been able to eat more!! If you're looking for a caterer who will provide excellent, friendly, professional and stress free service, you should consider Helga's because they are amazing. Both my husband and I were so pleased with them and if we could go back in time, we would chose them again.

We also served a dual entree dinner which made it easier on me during the planning/ organizing process. We did have to add some veggie meals and then last minute gluten free meals which were not a problem for Michael and his company. I am very glad my husband and I took time to eat because it was delicious! Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend Helga's Catering to anyone planning an event, reception or wedding.

We were not intimidated by the wide selection because whenever I called them to discuss the options, their staff was more than happy to help us. We scheduled a tasting and we're blown away, their salmon was amazing. In addition, they accommodated special requests like allowing us to bring in a traditional roasted pig to be served as part of the entree. During the wedding the staff was very professional and prepared for whatever happened. For instance when guests tried to devour the hor durves as soon as the staff came out of the kitchen, the staff took different routs out of the kitchen so that everyone was able to be served. After the reception, their staff promptly cleaned up and even allowed us to take the leftovers. The quality of services was amazing for the value. I will be having my own wedding next year and one of the first things that was booked was Helga's catering services.
