Hens and Chicks

I'd read that it's hard to get ahold of Nathan from Hens & Chicks..but I've seen them do a lot of nice work in magazines and online. So I emailed, and I called, and I called again. And again. And again. And I kept getting blown off by the staff. "He will call tomorrow." "He's in a meeting, he will call you when he is done." I live out of town, and called one year in advanced to make a consultation for a few months down the road, when I would be in town. I finally get in touch with a girl who worked there and I expressed my frustration. Her response: that I am a year out and a low priority for them. Great, I said, I'll be taking my business elsewhere.

I thought that finding someone to execute my vision was going to be nearly impossible until a friend referred me to Hens and Chicks. I am a professional musician and artist with a great love for Tim Burton films and Danny Elfman's scores. I wanted something dark, dreamy, eerie, and enchanted all while still being romantic and classic. I absolutely did not want a "fall wedding" but wanted to capture the darkness that autumn represents, especially as we draw closer to Halloween. I tried to put this into words as best I could upon first emailing Hens & Chicks, and after my first meeting with Nathan, they absolutely NAILED the proposal. As picky as I am, I did not change one thing. I trusted their vision so much, and knew that they were on board with mine. Seeing the room for the first time was like a dream, and my guests are still talking about how magical it walking into it when the doors opened. Hanging globes, candlelight, dark, dreamy, romantic everything. I am over the moon with how this evening turned out, and Hens and Chicks was an enormous part of it!

I cannot say enough amazing things about Nathan and Hens and Chicks!! The flowers were exquisite, unique, and just what I wanted even when I wasn't able to fully articulate it in the beginning. Everyone from the guests to my groom said they were the most amazing and fresh wedding flowers they had ever seen. From the greens in the chandeliers to the centerpieces that fit perfectly with our differently sized rectangular and circular tables, each detail was perfect. Nathan was also great to work with - timely, creative, thorough, professional, and flexible when we had to adjust numbers last minute due to being a military wedding. He was calm and patient to talk to and meet with, and that was so reassuring and appreciated. Nathan also designed my linens, chairs, water glasses, and lighting, and suggested and arranged the floor plan for the differently sized and shaped tables, which looked perfect. He seamlessly coordinated all these rentals and arrangements with other vendors; he also coordinated the rentals of special cups we needed for our signature cocktail, a mint julep! He even picked up the flowers from the reception Saturday night and dropped them off at our brunch Sunday morning so we could all enjoy them again. I wish I could give Hens and Chicks and Nathan 10 stars, and would absolutely recommend them to anyone!!

I honestly wish that I could give Hens and Chicks more than five stars! I cannot explain how talented Nathan is. I had a very clear vision of what I wanted my reception venue to look like, but had a really difficult time in putting the actual pieces together to achieve it. Nathan helped me so much in this. He talked me through everything numerous times on the phone and in person. He was very available and easy to talk to whenever I had a question. Our reception hall was honestly jaw dropping. It was absolutely gorgeous and Nathan had achieved the look and feel that I wanted my wedding to be. I had some great vendors for my wedding, but Hens and Chicks was absolutely my favorite. They really made our wedding reception perfect!

Nathan was really fun to work with. I loved my center pieces. The flowers were beautiful and he worked with my budget without making me feel bad about decreasing it a few months before the wedding. The only complaints that I have (and I wasn't very happy about it on my wedding day) was that I asked that only my bouquet have peonies, a different flower than the others. I wanted mine to stand out. He seemed to take artistic freedom and place peonies in only 3 of the other 6 bridesmaids bouquets. This seemed really weird to me. The bridesmaids bouquets did not match what we talked about and I was a quite disappointed. However, I loved my bouquet so much and I'm having it freeze dried. He was also VERY difficult to get a hold of throughout the whole process. Overall he did a good job and I would use him again, just a few things I was unhappy with. Loved the flowers overall.

Although my mother did most of the prep with the florist, I must say Nathan was phenomenal from the first day we met with him to the final product on our wedding day. I am not much into flowers, but I have to say that I was in awe of each aspect of the flowers at our wedding from the centerpieces, to groomsmen and bridesmaid flowers, to large decorative pieces to my favorite bouquet ever! Absolutely beautiful! I do have to say that the response at times was a little slow, but overall, fantastic work and didn't matter that took days/weeks for responses, the flowers were spectacular!

Hens and Chicks provided such beautiful flowers for our day. We had an unusual color palette (mustard and grey) and Nathan made it work so beautifully. Nathan was so easy to work with and based on his previous work,I let him have full creative reign over the flowers. They were amazing!

I loved our wedding flowers. My husband and I were very clear that we wanted both succulents and hydrangeas in our wedding flowers, and so many florists told us that wasn't possible (succulents can be trouble apparently). However, Nathan never blinked and told us that succulents were great and he was excited to use them. Nathan was also so helpful in defining our overall vision of the day. He challenged us by presented amazing ideas for the flowers, flower containers, candles, table clothes, chairs, etc. In the end, his ideas were so instrumental in creating an amazing day for us. So many guests at our wedding sought us out to compliment the flowers and I couldn't agree more - they were absolutely stunning and complimented the other aspects of the room (which Nathan was key in helping us create!). I can't recommend Hens and Chicks enough!

A friend of mine in the industry recommended I contact Hens and chicks for my wedding. 7 months out I emailed the company, got a response within a day, and within a week we set up a meeting. Our meeting was everything I could hope for, Nathan was very intune to what I was looking for and had a lot of wonderful ideas to stay within my budget. After an hour he told me he would gather some information and would be email me a proposal, but if I didn't hear from him in 7-10 days to call or email(ok?). So of course, I didnt hear anything by day 10 and called the store, left a message asking about the proposal. Three more days go by, no response, I call the store again, this time the woman tells me she's, "sending Nathan a text message to call me back and that this is the second time you've called". I explained to her I just wanted to know if I needed to find another florist, she agreed with me. Once again no response. Two weeks came and went. I then emailed the website, which Nathan himself had responded from with the first initial email within a day. I explained that I had called, understood he was busy and was simply looking for direction; are you able to do my wedding? Do you need more time to put my proposal together? Why has no one from the store called me back after two messages? Shocked by the unprofessional handling of my possible wedding flowers I finally decided after not hearing from them to move on with the suggestion of my friends and family; what if this happens closer to the wedding?! I'm diappointed that no one could send me a quick email or phone call to let me know what was going on and that we seemed to be on the same page and he said he was excited about my ideas and then I just never heard from him again. Don't waste your time, your once in a lifetime day deserves more respect than to be ignored for no reason.

Hens and chicks worked with my budget to give me exactly what i wanted. The bouquets, ceremony pieces and reception center pieces were gorgeous! Everyone complimented them! The only complaint i have was that during the planning phase (many months before the wedding) it took a while to receive emails back with answers to my questions.
