I can't say enough good things about the Hewing. Our initial meeting was with Sam, and he did a great job at making us feel welcome and valued. The wedding event coordinator Salena is absolutely wonderful to work with. She does her job with ease and was so easy to communicate with. She was also very prompt with answering questions, and she has incredible attention to detail. The entire Hewing team was a dream to work with. Each and every member of the team is friendly and attentive, and makes every guest feel valued. The drinks are great, and the food is amazing. Additionally, the event space is beautiful we received so many compliments from guests. My husband and I can't wait to come back for another stay at the Hewing!
I booked the Hewing's private dining room for my getting ready morning for my bridesmaids, stylists, and myself. It was perfect! They not only had a super cute space, they provided coffee, breakfast, and access to a sound system. It was the perfect way to spend the morning of the wedding. Highly recommend!
Gorgeous venue with excellent food. Knowledgeable, professional, helpful staff.
Hosting our wedding at the Hewing Hotel was the absolute best decision we made in the planning process. The catering team, especially Nicole, was informative and responsive. Nicole went above and beyond to make sure our day was exactly how we envisioned it. Every server, bartender, and member of our catering team were genuinely so kind and excited for us, which made us feel at home for our big day!
We had to downsize our wedding because of COVID but it was such a blessing in disguise because we were able to have our reception at Hewing Hotel, which was absolutely amazing. Not only is the space super cool and unique, but the staff and sales team were extremely friendly and helpful from the moment we reached out, truly making us feel like their only couple. We also can't say enough about how friendly and professional the entire team was who worked our wedding night.
We didn't have to worry about a thing and were so well taken care of. The ballroom looked incredible, our guests loved the food, they brought all our gifts up to our room, and even found us a room to eat pizza in a midnight after the ballroom had closed. As the bride and groom, to not have to worry about a thing on our wedding night was truly a gift. We also love that we can go back and stay at Hewing every year for our anniversary!
We had such a great experience at the Hewing for our wedding this past October--so glad we chose to hold our event there. We had a very small wedding (only 30 or so guests), and it was tough to find a venue in the Cities that met our needs for size of wedding and was also what we were looking for aesthetically--Hewing fit these needs perfectly! We booked their Large Private Dining Room, which was a perfect space for our ceremony and dinner following cocktail hour. I loved that cocktail hour was located in the lobby--such beautiful surroundings and photo opportunities! We also were able to enjoy the energy of the hotel lobby while still having a private space that was just for us. The decor at the hotel is gorgeous, and we so enjoyed being in a historical space.
There were a couple of personnel changes while we were planning, but we always felt taken care of by staff. Closer to our wedding, responses to our questions were quick, and Nicole helped us take care of all of the details on our wedding day and worked with our day-of coordinator to ensure that the day went smoothly. In addition to the staff being super helpful, the food was incredible--all of our guests were impressed with our selection of appetizers and entrees, and we loved that we could batch some signature cocktails, too. Overall, we had an unforgettable wedding experience that we would absolutely recommend to others, especially those hosting a small wedding. It was perfect!
The Hewing was the most amazing place to hold our (three-times rescheduled thanks to covid) wedding! In December 2020 they hosted us for a tiny, family-only ceremony, and then welcomed us back in August 2021 for the bigger reception celebration. Everything--from the decor, to the food, to the drinks, to the space--was superb and the extent to which the staff worked to make everything fit what we had dreamed of was off the charts. Our guests also said it was the best wedding food they had ever had. Could not recommend more highly!
The Hewing is THE perfect place to celebrate your wedding or any special occasion! We just had the pleasure of celebrating our son's wedding in the Hewing's Private Dining Room. The 5-course chef's choice dinner was magnificent as were the wine pairings. The staff went out of their way to make sure it was everything the bride & groom hoped it to be. Special thanks to Heidi who navigated everything to perfection!
Working with the Hewing was easily the best/most painless decision we made during our COVID wedding plans. Heidi was always punctual and super personable to work with. She was able to help our dream day/night come to life, which is no easy feat even in a non-pandemic world! Everyone from our bartenders to our banquet manager to the front desk staff surprised us all night long with their kindness and professionalism. Plus the space is BEAUTIFUL!!!!
I'm a wedding planner and plan weddings and events all over domestically and internationally and the Hewing Hotel was one of my favorite teams to work with. I had the pleasure of working with the staff at the Hewing Hotel for one of my client's weddings. We were requesting a large amount of unique details that hadn't been done before (customized food, drinks, setup, etc) and they welcomed every idea (AND challenge!) with open arms and a happy heart! They were incredibly delightful to work with and went above and beyond to ensure the day was perfect for the couple! I would like to call out Sam and Heidi specifically because they were so wonderful, but all the staff was incredible. It's hard to find vendors that truly deliver top notch 5 star service and they absolutely do!
My wedding at the Hewing was a dream! It was the most beautiful setting and our guests still tell us how much fun they had a year later. The hotel staff is so hospitable and I’ve heard many times how great the service was, both from wedding guests and those who stayed the weekend at the Hewing.
Rachel was our point of contact throughout the process and she was super responsive over our entire 17 month engagement. She was instrumental in finalizing our contract and helping to set our date so she could accommodate our budget. We could not have had our wedding there without her flexibility and assistance.
I cannot say enough good things about the Hewing Hotel. The service from every single person leading up to and during our wedding weekend at the Hewing was beyond exceptional, and we were on a first name basis with most of the staff by the end of the weekend.
We had both our ceremony and reception at the hotel since we had many out of town guests. Friends from New York, Boston and LA all raved that it was one of the best hotels they'd stayed at. We were treated to a surprise April blizzard the weekend of our wedding and I wouldn't have changed it for the world. Guests cozied up by the fire with cocktails from the adjacent bar, enjoyed the roof top hot tub with snow falling around them, and explored the (very immediate) neighborhood. A year later, our friends still talk about it. Thank you, Hewing Hotel team, for making our wedding better than we imagined!
We had the most amazing wedding reception at the Hewing Hotel. We worked with Rachel Mattison, who helped us navigate every detail before the day, working with requests from both sides. (including labeling alcohol-free tables for my partner's Mormon family!). The food was amazing! We had special off-menu requests (bacon-wrapped scallops, and my mother's own chocolate raspberry truffle cheesecake).
Rachel was very accommodating, and on the day of the wedding, all I had to do was make eye contact with her and she was by my side to help me out. She didn't even mind helping me fix one of the bustles on my dress that broke.
I would highly recommend the Hewing Hotel to other couples looking for a nice spot in Minneapolis to celebrate!
Rachel at The Hewing Hotel was absolutely incredible! The whole year leading up to our wedding she was reliable, helpful and responsive. From helping us choose vendors, to answering very in depth questions about what bar package we should choose, she was always there with a smile on her face! We had our wedding the weekend of Thanksgiving and she cut her holiday plans short so she could be there for our rehearsal at the hotel. Rachel loves her job and she cares about her clients and it shows in the work she does. Our wedding day was flawless! Rachel was our day of coordinator and she made sure our wedding was exactly how we envisioned it to be. Not to mention the staff at the hewing was on their A game! The food was incredible - we still have people talking about it. We even were able to create our own signature drink with the mixologist at the hotel. Our wedding day was magical and beautiful. We couldn't have done it without Rachel and the staff at The Hewing Hotel!!
Absolutely stunning! Rachel was incredibly helpful with all the planning! Not only is it a gorgeous venue but the food was amazing and the service was great!
Thank you to all involved in making Courtney and Josh’s 12/29/18 wedding such a memorable day. We couldn’t have been more pleased with how the reception went.
The service provided was first class from the cocktail hour till the dessert. Your staff was attentive, friendly, and accommodating. The venue itself was charming and inviting!! What a wonderful place to spend a cold winter’s evening. The Christmas decorations were still in place which just enhanced the space!!!
The food served was FABULOUS!!! We received many compliments regarding how delicious the food was, from the first hors d’oeuvres served through the soup, salad, main course and dessert!!! The presentation of the food was lovely.
Thank you to Rachel Mattison for overseeing the whole process. She was an integral part of how smoothly everything went!!! We can’t thank her enough for all the work and time she put in behind the scenes and her attention to detail. Rachel did a MAGNIFICENT JOB bringing to life Courtney and Josh’s vision!!! It was a beautiful and enchanting evening which we will long remember!!! We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Hewing Hotel!!!
We had the reception at the Hewing and a lot of our guests stayed there as well. It's a great choice for a wedding venue because it creates a gathering place for family the whole weekend central to everything in North Loop. Since both of our family's were from out of town that was a huge benefit.
Rachel was great during the planning process and provided an amazing tasting experience with our families. The chefs were very accommodating to menu and dietary restrictions.
We loved having the cocktail hour in part of the lobby since all the furniture is so beautiful and encourages mingling. The ballroom was the perfect size for our 125 person wedding. The food during the reception was delicious and plentiful and loved having it served 'family style.' The late night food of fries and fried chicken bites was a hit!
Also, Rachel went above and beyond and found sound equipment and a DJ when ours cancelled last minute saving our wedding from only a laptop the whole night.
A few cons:
-Food and drink can get very expensive
-We had an issue with some 'crashers' as there is no real security to prevent people from the lobby getting in
-There was a lot of miscommunication for our hotel guests regarding the rooftop and during the booking process
Overall, we had a wonderful experience working with the staff at the Hewing. We love the space, it's so unique and many of our guests commented how much they loved it too. Rachel was wonderful to work with and her attention to detail on the day of the wedding was impressive! All of the staff at the Hewing was so accommodating the weekend of our wedding.
The Hewing Hotel offered the perfect setting for my daughter's wedding celebration. The vintage look and feel of the space with beautiful windows, chandeliers, exposed brick and enormous wood beams offered a perfect backdrop for our guests. Everything from preparations to cocktails, champagne toast and dinner service was stellar. Rachel Mattison and her team provided first rate service. The appetizers and meals were fresh and delicious.
While staying at the Hewing we enjoyed our time in the spacious George Henry Suite. It provided the perfect space for the bride and her close friends to gather and prepare the day of the wedding. The guest rooms are well appointed and very comfortable. I believe everyone enjoyed their stay.
If you are looking for a lovely wedding venue, please consider Rachel and her team at the Hewing Hotel. You will be glad you did.
The Hewing Hotel was such a wonderful place to have our wedding!! The space was so amazing and the entire ambiance of the hotel is so perfectly Minnesotan and charming! We could not be happier with our choice to have our wedding at the Hewing Hotel! Everything was perfect the weekend of our wedding, the rooms were beautiful and our out-of-town guests felt welcomed and comfortable, the George Henry Suite was a perfect spot for getting ready in the morning, the cocktail hour was so much fun and the appetizers were to die for, the rooftop was a spectacular setting for sunset photos, dinner and dessert was DELICIOUS, the ballroom was a gorgeous space for our reception, and the staff was so nice and professional (huge shout out to Rachel who made the entire process a breeze, helped us solve a last minute problem with a different vendor the week of the wedding, and was on top of everything the day of the wedding)! Our wedding was just over a month ago and we still have guests calling us to rave about how beautiful everything was at our wedding! Thank you for making our wedding day picture perfect!
The Hewing was wonderful for our wedding reception! They were accommodating, responsive and took the stress out of planning. Rachel and Lori were amazing to work with! The venue, the staff, the food, was all stellar. We would highly recommend The Hewing!
We cannot say enough great things about this venue! The location was perfect and the building itself stunning.
Rachel was amazing! We had her make 99.9 percent of the decisions regarding our ceremony and reception, as we figured she’d know what would work/look best, as this is her career. Best decision ever! This made wedding planning so much less stressful. Rachel did so much more than we could have imagined. We had no idea she was going to decorate and add finishing touches. Very unexpected, but very much appreciated!
The Hewing is absolutely gorgeous and it was my dream wedding venue. I love the classy, luxurious and industrial look with a wonderful location downtown. Also so convenient that guests could stay right there. The rooftop is stunning for photos with the skyline background. We had our ceremony and reception in the ballroom and the flip of the room went smoothly. The only complaint I have is that working with Rachel was not easy. She would take weeks sometimes to respond to me, which was frustrating and stressful when it came up to only weeks before the wedding. I tried calling her boss and got no return phone call. I had to call her several times asking what the next steps were as we got closer to the day and hadn't yet heard anything from her. Rachel is very nice and was helpful the day of, but very unreliable in doing what she says she will do as far as returning phone calls and answering emails. My vendors had a hard time getting ahold of her as well. From the first time I met with her I didn't feel confident that she would be great at her job and I was right, but I had to compromise on that in order to have the venue that I truly wanted. Overall it worked out (with a lot of detailed planning and extra phone calls on my part). It's absolutely gorgeous and it's doable to work around Rachel's unresponsiveness.
We had our wedding at the Hewing Hotel -- both our ceremony and reception. Rachel and the rest of the hotel staff were OUTSTANDING. They made so many accommodations, and handled everything the day of with ease. They took care of everything I asked. Food was amazing --everyone was raving about the venue, the food and drinks. Would 100% recommend. Amazing team of people to work with and by far the best venue in Minneapolis with an industrial, rustic ambiance that could not be more welcoming and breathtaking. Reasonable/competitive pricing for the area with easy access for your guests and valet parking. We had 145 guests with a seated dinner, and it was very comfortable. They gave us plenty of food -- no one left hungry and everything went as promised. Couldn’t have gone better.
I’m a MN native but currently reside in Chicago and when planning a wedding, I was uncertain at first where to have it. I went back and forth between FL, IL, and MN. I visited multiple locations in those areas and decided on the Hewing Hotel. Now, one month post wedding, both my husband and I would say that deciding to have our wedding ceremony and reception at the Hewing was the best decision that we made and we were both so thrilled with the way everything turned out…I could go on for hours about it but I’d like to share some highlights..
Since so many guests would be from out of town (and had never been to MN), I loved that the Hewing was such a perfect representation of MN heritage and my Scandinavian background. About half of my 130 guests did not live in MN and stayed at the Hewing which was great because everything was on site. The rooms are beautiful, well sized, beds so comfortable, the property is gorgeous (AMAZING Rooftop!!!), staff kind and professional…Since the wedding, everyone has expressed how much they loved Minneapolis and how beautiful the Hewing was. The ballroom that the ceremony and reception were in is such a gorgeous space—exposed brick, dark wallpaper, large chandeliers and huge windows…it was perfect. Post ceremony, we were able to do a receiving line in the lobby and have a cocktail hour in another adjacent space while the florists got the room ready for the reception. The flow of the space and the event went perfectly which was largely because of Rachel the Hewing Event Planner.
Rachel was very involved with the planning process of my wedding and working with her was easy and enjoyable. You can tell when working with her that she loves what she does and is so genuine. She has a wealth of knowledge and really great ideas, many of which were executed at my wedding. She was extremely responsive during the entire planning process and during the weeks leading up to the wedding, we text back and forth many times daily and had countless phone calls. Rachel made such an effort to make me feel special and taken care of during the planning process as well. There were so many times that I remember being in a panic and asking Rachel who was in charge of doing something (an example being coordinating timing of speeches during the ceremony) and she would assure me that she would handle it—and she did handle everything! She was there to handle everything day of as well! She coordinated everything—literally everything. One of the best things about Rachel is that she’s very calm and has a calming presence while also being highly efficient and getting things done. I didn’t know this at the time, but my husband had mistakenly been given the wrong pair of pants at the tailors and realized this while he was getting ready on the day of our wedding. It turns out Rachel went to Macys and got him new pants within like an hour of finding this out and they all kept this quiet from me and I didn’t find out until right before the ceremony. To say she went above and beyond on several occasions while working with her would be an understatement.
To top it all off, the food was delicious and we received many compliments from guests about how good the appetizers and entrees were.
In closing, the service we received at the Hewing was excellent and everything was perfect. We had such a wonderful time at the Hewing and we intend to stay here again for our first anniversary.
We worked with Rachel at the Hewing for our hotel block and hosting our rehearsal dinner in one of their spaces (behind Tullibee). She was great to work with throughout the process, super easy and always willing to work with whatever we needed. All the staff that we came in contact with were incredibly friendly and happy to be around. They were so amazing and definitely helped us feel special the entire weekend. I would absolutely recommend staying with them and trusting them to go the extra mile to make your events feel extra special.
I booked the Hewing for our wedding rehearsal dinner. During the planning phase, their catering manager said we didn't have to meet and could discuss everything over email - and being naive I thought- great! One less appointment to go to. That was definitely my mistake. We planned the dinner as a buffet for 40 people. When the night finally came, the room and setup was gorgeous, but we had a lot of issues with the buffet. You would think a buffet would have more than enough food for everyone - not the case. We had to request the kitchen to make more food multiple times - there was literally about 1 slice of meat or fish per person and they forgot to make the potatoes I requested specifically. Also, the desserts that were ordered were SO tiny - and $10 a piece. My in laws were stressed the entire dinner worrying that people would not have enough food. I will say that the serving staff was very helpful and kind and worked quickly to get food out. After it was over, we still had a good time and figured we would move past it. That was until we got our bill, which was $2,000 over the quote. And thats where the Hewing truly failed - not only did they overcharge us for the tiny amount of food they provided, their communication after the fact was disappointing. We tried to reach any higher level managers to discuss the issue and no calls were returned. We ended up meeting the Hewing in the middle with the bill, just to end the matter, but it left a bad taste in my entire family's mouth. Hewing tried to charge for a 3 course meal, but was trying to charge an extra $8 per person for potatoes (literally working out to $2 per tiny fingerling potato), and also tried to charge for dessert. So the 3 course meal was NOT three courses. The food was good - but if I would have known how tiny the portions were, I would not have booked. It ended up being more per person than our actual WEDDING meal - which had about 3x the food per person and was amazing. The Hewing obviously does not understand the concept of a buffet. Also, although the staff at the event was great, the overall management staff experience was extremely disappointing. They tried to warp every issue into somehow being our fault - when the truth is the meal was inadequate and poorly executed. I would not recommend for your event unless you're prepared to overpay for everything. What a disappointment.
WOW! Rachel at the Hewing Hotel has been so amazing! I had a venue cancel on me last minute and Rachel has gone above and beyond to answer all my questions and help me lock in my wedding date. It was so stressful and she made this part of my wedding so easy. The venue is incredible, but when a venue has an amazing staff it really makes for a fun planning process!
