As all have said the staff was not the easiest/kindest to work with and it hasn’t changed. The amphitheater wasn’t mowed and grass was hire than seating and we had to wait for them to mow. Hillwood itself was beautiful with the lighting but the floor was filthy! Took pictures inside first and bottom of wedding dress was black due to the filth of the floors.
Venue is very pretty. Customer service is horrible. They have refused to give us a refund of our deposit for a wedding we could not have due to corona virus restrictions. We decided that having a wedding during the middle of a pandemic would not be safe for our friends or family, so we decided to cancel our event and elope. We gave the venue plenty of notice and they refunded most of our money but refused to give back the deposit. This is crazy to me because the venue was not even allowed to be open on our wedding date so we couldn’t have had a wedding either way. They gave us plenty of options to reschedule to a Thursday or Friday in the winter, or next year, but we decided to just elope. I would have thought that management would have had a little compassion for a bride that had to cancel her dream wedding and refund the deposit out of curtesy. All of our other vendors gave us full refunds with no questions asked, not because they had to but because they knew it was the right thing to do, but not Hillwood. Keep this in mind when you are considering this venue.
The venue is amazing and being able to use the tables & chairs. Dealing with one of the ladies in charge of renting the venue was a pain dealing with. The man that was in charge of cleaning up the venue and letting us in the venue was amazing. He worked with us with decorating and getting in.
Hillwood at Davies Manor is absolutely beautiful, but that’s about it. Everything must be done in person, and with an appointment. Their schedule is Tuesday-Friday from 10:30-4:30. This was really hard to work with if you have a regular 9-5 job, and she does not make exceptions like staying later or coming earlier. There is also not a drop box so you must adjust in person meetings during business hours. We were also given a lot of information that was constantly changing. There was also a lot of discussion as to which package we had paid for, despite the fact that we had a signed and paid for a wedding contract. The wedding package comes with a 2 hour rehearsal session, but they don’t guarantee the day before your wedding. We were told several times that we had the rehearsal time, but then we didn’t because they had to keep it available for other people to book that day. We finally got a confirmation the week of the wedding only after a month debate over our contract/package. The tables and chairs that come with the venue also aren’t the greatest. Many of the long tables are very worn out and not usable because they are bowing. Also, the chairs are mix match metal folding chairs like you get with a card table. Renting different chairs was cheaper than chair covers but was an unexpected expense since Hillwood states that they provide chairs. It really is beautiful and you can’t beat the atmosphere that the lights provide, but I’m not sure if I’d say the hassle with the coordinator was worth the lights. If I had to do it all over again knowing what I know now, I don’t think that I would have my reception at Hillwood. I will say I didn't have the deposit issue like other people have stated, but my dad went back early morning to clean up anything outside.
Davies Manor Plantation is a beautiful location for a wedding. The possibilities for creating an amazing atmosphere are endless. My husband wanted to be married outside and this location was the most affordable and had a fantastic backup plan for rain. My only complaint is the Hillwood staff. To say they were rude is an understatement. The first few walk throughs and meetings were great. They approved my plans for the historic grounds with no questions and loved what I planned to do. I felt awesome about my event. Cut to the week of my wedding, I received phone calls everyday about issues they had with my vendors. Now, it was my understanding that they had already been in contact with my vendors and worked everything out..... I was wrong. Two days before my wedding I spent hours on the phone working with my rental company and Hillwood to solve a delivery crisis. That had already been worked out and written on my paperwork. Hill wood was now saying they would not honor that agreement. The day of the wedding we arrive to setup and the front porch was covered in hay from the event the evening before, the floors inside were filthy, the drink tubs behind the bar were missing, and the prior events linens and other rentals were still inside. I was guaranteed to have a clean building at 8 am the day of my event. Hillwood failed to make that happen. The property manager cleaned up the mess from the event prior. We had a friend go and purchase drink tubs after spending time on the phone with Hillwood, who said they did not provide tubs for the bar, when I had in it writing. Once the Hillwood staff was away, we had a fantastic wedding and everyone had a blast. I understand that all weddings are stressful, but Hillwood was my only vendor who couldn't seem to get it together. Calling a bride two days prior to her wedding and costing her more money because you refuse to hold up your end of a contract is ridiculous in my book! If you do choose Hillwood, because it is an amazing venue, just be prepared for things to get crazy the week of your wedding.
We really liked Hill wood at Davies Manor. The staff is not very personable and hard to get along with but the venue is beautiful
I had seen receptions in Hillwood and was in love with the string lights that stay up in the barn. It minimizes the need for decorations. Some colored table cloths and flowers for centerpieces and you are good to go. The grounds are beautiful as well. You couldn't see a more beautiful place.
The cooperation from the staff does leave something to be desired. Don't show up without an appointment or unannounced, you won't get a warm reception.
But minimize contact to the needed meetings and everything will go fine.
Davies Manor Plantation at Hillwood is a beautiful option and has a good base price for pretty much just the venue; however, created a number of obstacles. First obstacle: I have a full time job and taking off work is not an easy thing for me to do, but the venue is only open Tuesday through Friday until about 4:00 for tours/appointments, unless they have an event already scheduled. I was able to go after work and be there at 5:00 one time to see the venue for the first time; however, this was not easy to arrange. I was given grief when I requested to meet at the venue at 5:00. Second obstacle: There are a lot of rules. We were told that an option would be to get married in front of the big oak tree. Their only request was for us to not break the bark or hurt the tree in any way. We arranged to hang ribbons, linen, and fishing wire on the tree; however, all three of those options were turned down quickly.
They were; however, very respectful of me as the bride and ensuring that my privacy and finances were protected. Also, the location is beautiful and I loved the history of the location as well as the indoor/outdoor option.
Hillwood is such a beautiful place. The staff is so friendly and willing to work with you. We had many visits there with family and other vendors. The scenery is amazing
We absolutely loved this venue! Although we only used the outdoor spaces for pictures, but it could be used for so much more. The indoor space (Hillwood) is gorgeous. It has strung up lights already in place. We decorated the 20ft fireplace, mantle, and hearth, with candles and it didn't need any more. Very rustic like but classic, which is exactly what we were looking for. Loved it! Will definitely recommend.
Everything there is beautiful. There is plenty of room for a lot of guests. The price for the venue for the whole day includes the 250 chairs and a ton of tables. The price is very price budget friendly;thus, does not lack in the charm of the building. This is a must book (saves money)
The only bad comment that I have is with the Lighting guy "Kevin the Flower Guy". Whatever you do, do not add additional lights with this guy. He told my mom over the phone that what we were wanting in addition to the venue was not worth his time to do (even though we were paying him to do it). If you want additional lighting do not go with this Kevin "RefEx Flower Guy", he does not reply to email, is not organized when showing potential customers, does not have pricing for potential customers, and he refuses at the beginning to tell you there is a minimum of around $1,000.00 to use any of his services. He is very unprofessional and I am trying to find a way to report him to the BBB! Seems like he charges what he thinks he can get out of you! Not professional at all. I think you get the picture. I could go on for days about this non-professional so called business man!
When I walked into the space, I knew immediately it was the place that I wanted to get married. The space met all of our requirements: rental price included all chairs and tables that we would need, a huge hall for everything to happen in, and had rooms for the groomsmen and bridal party to all get ready in on site. We had our rehearsal dinner there as well in order to set up for the day of the wedding, the night before so we wouldn't be rushed to do everything the day of the wedding. For the most part the staff was really easy to work with. We only had a handful of issues that were easily handled. They changed the dates that they wanted paperwork back from you, 3 weeks before the wedding they sent out letters saying that sparklers were not allowed at their facility going forward, and we had an issue with a candelabra come up missing. There was a wedding the day after our's that packed up the candelabra by mistake and we were blamed for it. It took nearly 2 weeks for the other wedding to find it in the midst of their wedding stuff but our wedding was blamed for it at first. If you do have your wedding there, it will be absolutely beautiful but I would suggest having them do a check walk through with you or whoever is responsible for the cleanup with one of their workers to make sure that you do not get charged for something that you didn't do. This place feels up extremely fast too but they will work with you to find wedding dates. Our original date was booked but they were able to give me days around it so that we could work with them to try and have our wedding there.
