As far as the hotel stay itself, my experience was wonderful. The staff and the room were great. I went for a 2 day stay last year and this year for a Sales event for my job. The only down side was the food. We were provided catered breakfast, snacks and lunch both days (buffet style) and dinner (plate service) the first day.
Day 1- Breakfast of scrambled eggs, chicken sausages, yogurt and an array of fruit was good. The waffle station was a hit.
Lunch was make your own mini tacos, with rice and your choice of beef or shrimp. It was bland with no flavor and there was no cheese that I could see. The rice was the only thing that was good.
Dinner was a choice between beef, chicken or fish which we had to order ahead of time. I go the fish and it was not good. Very fishy tasting and no seasoning, with 3 little potatoes. Also with no seasoning.
Cocktail hour had the best food. All of the appetizers were delicious.
Day 2- Breakfast was awful. They provided wrapped sandwiches. I chose the English muffin one with egg whites and cheese. The muffin wasn't toasted and was very mushy. I took one bite and opted or a different sandwich. A croissant with scrambled eggs and turkey sausage patty inside. The croissant was rubbery and I had to take it apart to eat the inside of it. Then I just got a yogurt. There was also a French toast station and everyone at my table who tried it said it wasn't good and didn't eat it after 1 bite.
Snacks were really good between breakfast and lunch. Mini corn dogs, pretzel sticks and small sausage subs.
Lunch had a lot of options. Salad, baked ziti, fish, beef and a few things I can't remember. I took a little of each and the only good thing was the ziti. I was so happy to get to the airport to eat at one of the restaurants there. As I stated above the staff were really top notch. Everyone from the bartenders to the wait staff, and the front desk.
In closing, who ever is in charge of the snacks and appetizers should be making the meals.
Stay away from booking with the Hilton in downtown Cleveland. They provided nothing but nightmares, headaches, and additional obstacles for our wedding weekend room block :
- emailed one of our guests regarding our contract instead of us regarding financial obligations.
- while additional rooms were available in our block, PREVENTED guests from booking under our block AND then refused to allow those guests to join the block upon request
- did not return phone calls timely
- One hour before our check-in time to confirm our arrangements... and THEN upon checking in DID NOT HAVE OUR ROOMS READY NOR CORRECT. Neither the manager nor the sales associate was available to meet with me in person but called to let me know they were working on a "creative solution"
- Due to this checking-in fiasco, I did not have adequate time to get ready for my rehearsal dinner.
Upon my return post-rehearsal dinner, I was given keys to my originally reserved suite: FILTHY. It was like the floor has been covered in melted jolly ranchers. The manager at my check-in mentioned he sent up two complimentary bottles of champagne; however, were two mini bottles of Prosecco I wish I was making this up.
Upon my checkout, I was told I would receive an email with my receipt. Still waiting on that email, two weeks later; they added thousands of charges to my credit card. I have called, texted, and requested invoices in order to dispute (or at least know what the charges are for) multiple times with no response.
Please protect yourself from the HELL of working with the Cleveland Downtown Hilton.
Melissa and her team were amazing to work with. They accommodated all of our requests and we had the most perfect day. Melissa went above and beyond for my husband and I and I really appreciate her work to make our wedding exactly what we were hoping for. I would highly recommend the Hilton Cleveland Downtown for a wedding reception!
The worst experience at a hotel. If you are getting married in Cleveland pick a different hotel. I wish I did. The night of my wedding they were kicking out my guest. Their director of security his horrible and rude. I promise you’ll be happier somewhere else.
The main takeaways that we had from planning our wedding are twofold: (1) select professional vendors who know what they’re doing; and (2) select vendors that, personality-wise, you enjoy working with because you will be spending a lot of time with them in the time leading up to your wedding. The Hilton Cleveland Downtown--and, in particular, Emily in the Hilton’s Event Department--absolutely checked all of these boxes for us in connection with our November wedding.
Interestingly, when we were initially searching for wedding venues, we were convinced that we didn’t want a hotel reception. We wanted something “unique.” Nevertheless, we went to the Hilton, just to check it out. Almost instantly upon our first meeting with Emily at the Hilton, all of our preconceived notions about a hotel reception disappeared entirely.
First off, the Hilton itself is a gorgeous hotel and venue. We were completely blown away by the incredible panorama of Cleveland visible from the Hilton: Lake Erie, the Rock Hall, Browns Stadium, the Old Courthouse, just to name a few. Ultimately, the location of the Hilton enabled us to have an incredible background for all of our photos, without really even venturing far away from the hotel.
Second, the Hilton is unique for having a modern, contemporary feel, with all the conveniences of a hotel. Being in Downtown Cleveland, the Hilton is within walking distance to all of the downtown restaurants and attractions, which is great for out-of-town guests. All of our guests commented on the hotel and how nice it was to be able to easily explore Cleveland. Further, a number of our guests took advantage of the food and drink options in the hotel itself, including the Burnham, Bar 32, and Eliot’s.
Third, the relatively “all-inclusive” nature of the venue really helped to take a lot of the planning burden off of us. We didn’t have to worry about procuring silverware, tablecloths, napkins, plates, etc. for our wedding reception: it was just included.
Fourth, and finally, the quality of the service at the Hilton was impeccable and was worth every penny. The food at our wedding reception was fantastic--from the hors d'oeuvres, to the main courses, to the desserts, to the late night bites. It was all delicious, and we received rave reviews from our guests.Every member of the hotel staff that we encountered (check-in, valets, bellmen, wait-staff, bartenders, housekeeping, etc) was incredibly professional and polite, and really went the extra mile to make us and our wedding day feel like a truly special occasion.
However, no one did more to make our day absolutely perfect than Emily. From day one, Emily was incredible to work with, and she made every aspect of planning our wedding reception (and event) easier. Emily communicated promptly and in a helpful manner, always going the extra mile to make sure all of our questions were answered. Emily is a true professional, and she is also just an incredibly nice person, so it was truly a pleasure every time that we got to interact with her (which was a lot!). With Emily, and the Hilton, we were confident throughout the entire planning process that our wedding was in good hands. And that confidence was not misplaced, as we would not have changed a thing about our wedding day. So, even if you are convinced that you don’t want a hotel wedding, go check out the Hilton. We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
The Hilton was wonderful purely because of the people who work that. Jaci in particular was organized, kind, and patient. She was easy to contact, quick to reply, and always willing to compromise if she could. She is the reason we went with the Hilton. The other staff at the Hilton were also great (Hollis in particular)! The Hilton was slightly more expensive than other venues in downtown Cleveland (especially their service charges for outside-catered meals) but I felt the overall service, the people, and the venue itself more than made up for it. The venue itself, by the way, is BEAUTIFUL. Tons of comfortable seating, open windows with great views of downtown and the lake...it was perfect and well-kept! Would highly recommend it to anyone planning to get married, especially if Jaci is their coordinator!
Everything from the food to the decor was perfect
Me and my now wife got engaged at Bar 32 only a few short months after its opening in 2016. Appropriately, we wanted to block out some rooms at the Hilton for our wedding. Rachel Lucas and Carly Faraci made our dreams come true by setting aside some rooms for us during a rather busy fall season. They were exceptional in working with us on our block, and responded to all of our questions in a timely, courteous manner. Carly went above and beyond by setting aside some time for us in Bar 32 for our “first look pictures” (steps away from where we got engaged) when the bar would have otherwise been closed, and helped me reserve the Chairman suite for the weekend so we could enjoy a few days as newlyweds feeling like a king and queen. The block they set aside for our guests had AMAZING views of the Browns stadium (we did not stop getting compliments on the rooms), and the Chairman suite we had was (and will be) the most amazing room I’ve ever stayed in. It was an incredible weekend for us, as we felt like royalty, and to top it off Carly sent up a bottle of wine and some macaroons to celebrate our big day. We were floored by the exceptional service and luxurious suites and the Hilton in downtown Cleveland, and would highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you so much Rachel and Carly, you made our wedding weekend a dream come true!!
Jaci and her team of staff did a excellent job! Our guests are still raving about the food!
We had the most perfect experience with the Hilton Downtown Cleveland. We were married on Saturday, June 10th in room Superior D on the 5th floor. The ballroom is a blank canvas you can work with (and the carpet isn't brown and yellow like every other hotel in Cleveland). The views from the 5th floor are also stunning, which is where we had our cocktail reception.
For food options, we chose the filet and chicken tikka masala combo plate. Sadly, I wasn't able to eat it because I was busy talking to guests, but we received many compliments about how delicious the food was. I did get to taste it during our food tasting and it was to die for. The food and drink is on the expensive side (around $170 a plate) but it was worth it.
However, it wasn't the space or food that made our wedding experience so great, it was the staff. The staff at the Hilton was THE BEST hotel staff I've ever experienced. Jaclyn Herrera, the Venue Manager, was so wonderful to work with. She was responsive and kept us calm throughout the entire process. Hollis, the Catering Manager, was a first class guy. He made sure everyone was taken care of and he was also hilarious while directing our wedding party introductions. His wait staff was so courteous and hospitable-- we had so many guests comment about their great encounters with the staff. They were the cherry on top of our wedding!
