I recently had my wedding room block and brunch here. The sales department was difficult to deal with and were rude. When I reserved my room block last year, a suite was included in the signed contract and I found out that they ended up giving it away to someone else. They did make up for the error by at least assigning me to a panoramic view room. The size of the room and the layout was really nice. However, there was loud popping and cracking noises coming from the windows which was a little frightening and there was no privacy in the bathroom as the sink is out in the open. The sales department did not accommodate our wedding party well and refused to put my bridesmaids on the same floor as me. They stated that they can't make any changes to rooms assigned (had nothing to do with availability), but I wasn't asking for a different room type, just for my close friends and family to be near my room. Several of the rooms weren't even ready at the standard check in time. Also, they don't inform you of the housekeeping policy and that is not included daily. I only found out by asking that you need to request cleaning 24 hours in advance, so you can't call down the morning you need housekeeping. This needs to be discussed in the check in procedure as the sign only states that housekeeping is by request.
We did appreciate the free parking, but the pool was closed for renovations and according to the sales department, hasn't been operational for 2 years. We hosted our post wedding brunch here and communicated well in advance that our guest count would be less than we expected to see if there was a different area we could reserve and they were not flexible. We ended up paying for double the amount of guests and had a ton of food left over since they didn't let us change our guest count. However, they refused to let our guests take food to go even though it was all paid for. A huge waste of food and money! They also weren't willing to put out the centerpieces we purchased, so we had to do it ourselves.
The only associate that went above and beyond was Julie at the front desk. We enjoyed speaking with her. Looking back, I regret not booking my room block and all wedding activities at the Marriott down the road as their customer service was much better. I would not recommend this Hilton for a group block.
We had an amazing fairy tale wedding reception! The staff at the Hyatt ensured every little detail was covered. The food was excellent and the ballroom was a good size for our party. It was the staff that made this such an outstanding event. From the Wedding Coordinator, to the servers, to the bartenders everyone was friendly and accommodating. This is an excellent choice for a wedding reception and I highly recommend the Hyatt Fairfax at Fair Lakes.
I chose the Hyatt because after looking at several venues, it seemed to offer the best value. I have to say, my expectations were met and then some. First, the food was FABULOUS. They created custom menus and for us and accommodated all our allergy concerns. The service was excellent. The catering manager was professional, kind and very organized. They took care of all the decorations I brought and even used them again in the morning for our good bye brunch. The quality and service was more than I could imagine. I highly recommend the Hyatt for anyone looking for a hotel venue!
We would like to say THANK YOU to James Lao and the staff at the Hyatt. You all made our day a dream come true. Everyone was professional, helpful and courteous. The food was DELICIOUS and the service was great. All of our rooms were beautiful and clean. The honeymoon suite was large with a great view. They Hyatt gave us the best price after searching at least 100 other locations in the Maryland, DC, Virginia area. They were very accommodating and flexible. Our day would not have been what it was without them. James is AWESOME and knows his stuff. I would highly recommend this venue for a wedding.
I highly recommend the Hyatt hotel for a wedding reception. The staff was more than accommodating to every needs and wants of our guests. The staff was very professional in their service. Especially James Lao, Event Coordinator at the Hyatt hotel in Fair Lakes. He was very attentive to our needs. Any last minute changes we made, he was right on it. We did not have to worry about anything. James was on top of everything. He kept us informed of everything. Double checking and verifying with us.
Our guest stated the food was very good. The filet and salmon was cooked to perfection.
Everything went very smoothly.
My husband and I were looking for a one-stop shop for our wedding ceremony and reception (our wedding was a small (40 people) brunch wedding). We found it at the Hyatt Fair Lakes. From the generous and helpful wedding coordinator to a wide selection of settings, the Hyatt Fair Lakes helped us have a stress-free wedding day.
Great value, service was overall good. Great food, nice set up, had a few issues about the bartender not opening new bottles of liquor towards the end of the night when it was an open bar and we asked them to serve the top tier of the cake but they didn't.
WE loved having our wedding at the Hyatt. The staff (James Lao) was a pleasure to work with and made the process as easy as possible. Everything went off without a hitch.
We can not speak more highly of the Hyatt Fair Lakes in Fairfax. From their unbelievable flexibility in accommodating our needs (specific food requirements, large party, blended ceremony, etc.) to the impeccable attention to all of the little details, they played a huge part in making our day perfect. Ti, our event coordinator, worked with us from the day I emailed her about the venue to the big day. By the actual wedding day, I considered her more of a friend than a coordinator. I have to say, thanks to the staff at the Hyatt, my wedding day was completely stress-free.
Bottom line, we chose the Hyatt Fair Lakes because it was a
GREAT value and could accomodate 200 guests. However, on our wedding day, we were so happy with the level of service as it related to vendor coordination (flowers, AV/lighting, rentals) and catering (my guests loved our food and the cake, which was also included). At the Hyatt, we worked with Gabrielle Merlet, who was wonderful. My wedding party and many of the guests stayed at the hotel and had reasonable room rates. I was upgraded to a large suite (included in my package), which accomodated a hairdresser and two make-up artists. The entire bridal party was able to come into the suite and have there hair and make-up done while I got dressed on the other side. We just had a wonderful day and couldn't have been happier with the service we received at the Hyatt Fair Lakes.
I had the best experience at this hotel, because they did an amazing job for us.
The hotel was recently renovated and the lobby area is all done and it looks very chic and fun. It looks very hip and is a fun laid-back place to hang out. They might be renovating some other areas, but I honestly could not tell.
I had a wedding for 130 people. They provided a free hotel room for the two of us on the wedding night, we got Hyatt points for the money we spent at the hotel, and we got two free nights at any Hyatt hotel. The wedding package at the hotel took care of everything (food, drinks, service to put all the table centerpieces etc. out, and even the cake from Amphora). Although this may sound like it's very cookie cutter, which was my initial concern, it actually turned out to be a great idea. The catering manager was there to help answer all our wedding planning questions, and since the package took care of so many details, we were able to take more time to make the wedding unique.
We had a Chinese / American wedding. We were able to work it out with them so the chef roasted 3 whole pigs for us. The chef is Filipino, so he made amazing crispy-on-the-outside and tender-on-the-inside Lechon pork. We were able to have a lion dance and other things that really made our wedding feel unique.
The staff was super attentive during the planning and during the wedding. The catering manager answered all of my e-mails almost immediately within 24 hours. She helped recommend my florist, who I also loved and was reasonably priced. During the wedding, the staff made sure we had food and didn't skip our dinner. They even gave us the left over pig from our wedding to take home!!!
They really went above and beyond! So I would highly recommend them for any event that you're planning.
Given the stellar review I gave, I did hear some of my guests mention that they were not treated as well as I was. For example, some guests moved chairs, so others did not have chairs. The guests without chairs were told to find another chair on their own. When they found a seat at another table, they also did not get slices of cake or champaign for toasts.
The catering manager, Ti, is an absolute joy to work with. She has been doing this for years and her experience shows. She made everything seamless and took tons of stress off me. The location was great for locals and out of town guests (especially since drinking is involved). They have more than enough rooms to host guests. As an added bonus, the Hyatt recently finished renovations (with more coming) that completely enhanced our guests experience! They all could not stop raving about the hotel. We had a Catholic wedding, so this review is for the reception and cocktail hour only.
I chose the Hyatt Fairfax because of the spacing for all three events (ceremony, cocktail hour, reception). We had an outdoor ceremony on their patio. The patio was a cozy space with nice trees and bushes. No flowers, so if you're looking for color, you'd need to have your florist provide flowers. Unfortunately, there were two people in the pool. The hotel assured us no one would be in the pool.
The best feature is the area for cocktail hour. There was plenty of seating in the lobby so guests did not have to stand for the whole hour. Most venues I saw had no seating. This was perfect for the older guests and the MOG who had a broken foot that day.
Our ballroom was a perfect size. The ballroom was extremely hot. We complained and the AC was turned up, but it could have been turned up more.
I gave 4 out of 5 stars for service because of these 2 small problems and also because we were assigned to work with one woman from the hotel who was dreadful. She had a very strict personality and made us feel like we were at a business meeting during our tasting. It was very uncomfortable. Fortunately, I complained and was quickly assigned to another consultant. Gabrielle did an excellent job! And so did the rest of the staff the night of our wedding. They asked how we were throughout the night and if we needed anything. Best part of the Hyatt--the food!!!! Delicious!
