Debi and Charles are the most accommodating people in the world. We booked Historic Taylor Barn for our wedding and they opened their house and belongings to us and made us feel like family. We forgot napkins and plates for the wedding day lunch and Debi let us use her china, kitchen, and cloth napkins! They are reasonably priced and don't nickel and dime you for every little service. This is a great place that made our wedding day an absolute dream! Very rustic, very chic, very neat little venue!
We love the setting in and around the Taylor Barn as it features big sky, clean air and an all around relaxing vibe. The venue itself features an unbelievably cool old barn (built in 1879) and a nice property around. Great spot to have a wedding. We enjoyed working with the property owners for the most part, as they were pretty on the ball. They helped us get heaters when the forecast took a dip, and had everything ready to go. Just like any event venue, lookout for little nickle and dime things here and there, but all in all a very lovely experience.
The barn itself was gorgeous, full of character and perfect for pictures. However, the pictures and the real life visit showed us two very different things. Meaning, the pictures have the barn as a stand-alone beauty, while the actual visit lets you see the fences and working-farm life surrounding the barn. Still beautiful and with the right photographer, so will your pictures, but the actual reception/wedding will need to be in a farm atmosphere. Just a heads up.
The Historic Taylor Barn is a great place for a casual, country wedding. It's very easy to get to from Lawrence, and the stone barn on the property is a wonderful setting for a reception or wedding. There are so many rustic elements to this venue, and the owners of the property (who you will deal with for bookings and rentals, etc.) are very laid-back and great to work with. You have so many options of what to do with this space - you could have a wedding outside or inside the barn, and there's tons of property to use for different setups. Not to mention how beautiful it is .. talk about photo ops! I really liked this venue and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a shabby chic, rustic, elegant and casual event space!
My fiancé and I had initially planned to marry at my parents' farm, but with only three months to plan our wedding, I was stressed at the amount of work that would have to go into the yard, the house, etc, before hosting a wedding. At the same time, no place that we looked felt as comfortable as home. No place seemed to fit....until we visited Debi and Charles Taylor at Historic Taylor Farm.
First of all, their entire approach set us ALL at ease from our first meeting. When I told Deb some of the non-traditional ideas I had for our ceremony and party, she was immediately on board and ready to do what she could to make our day a beautiful success.
And then there is the physical space of the farm and the barn--the perfect setting for our elegant, vintage, ice-cream social-inspired garden party. From the beauty and tranquility of the 150 year stone barn to the peace of parisian gypsy jazz floating on the wind through the tall trees at sunset...the entire day seems like a dream now. This is easily the best-kept secret in the Lawrence/Kansas City area, and I would recommend working with them in a heartbeat!
I felt right at home. The owners worked with me when time got a little stressful. The barn is gorgeous and the perfect setting for pictures. If you want a fun and romantic wedding I highly recommend the Taylor Barn.
