We hired The Eatery to cater our wedding at an off-site wedding venue. Overall, we had plenty of food. We had about 5-10 people that said they would attend our wedding that ended u...
p not showing which allowed some guests to grab seconds if they chose. My wedding coordinator & I were a little confused though with the setup. We were told somewhere along the way that HPL staff would be serving people as they came through the buffet line vs. the buffet being self-serve. Additionally, the HPL staff was telling our coordinator that they don't stay to bus tables, but my wedding coordinator & I discussed having the staff stay with the catering representative. My coordinator had to show the HPL staff emails between the catering representative and her to confirm with the on-site staff that they in fact had to stay to assist with bussing/clean up. We both did not understand where the confusion was there. As a result, some of the service strategies did feel like they were done in a convenience manner.
The food was delicious; we received great feedback on that. The gluten-free people were also very appreciative of the delicious GF choices that were offered. However, on the service front, even though things ended up working out in the end, the service did feel a bit lagging & the fact that some of the staff was arguing with my wedding coordinator (and one person in particular was giving her attitude) after the hefty amount we paid for great good & hopefully fantastic service, it was a bit disappointing. We understand things do happen whether it be miscommunication or someone having a bad day. Nonetheless, when this was the most expensive part of our wedding, it was not pleasant to hear about some of the things that happened between the HPL staff & my wedding coordinator.
We hope this honest feedback is helpful to the HPL catering staff moving forward as other people utilize their catering services at their future events.
My husband and I had our post wedding brunch here in the glass room and absolutely loved it! The food was wonderful, the staff was very helpful and professional and the venue is ab...
solutely gorgeous. Thanks for the wonderful brunch!
It’s a beautiful location
We loved Hodge Podge Lodge! From the moment we stepped foot on the property, we knew it’s where we wanted to get married. We were looking for something very intimate and eclectic a...
nd HPL was just that.
We did have a couple of minor issues, although I believe this is due to new management coming in during coordination of our wedding.
1. Make sure you get everything in writing as we were promised different things from the owner with a “we can absolutely do that for you” and then it never happened or was extremely complicated to make it happen.
2. HPL opened a restaurant on-site after we signed our contract with them. This is no big deal, but out of respect to your brides who signed an agreement with you before you had a restaurant, we should have been either given the option to renegotiate details or just bow out. The fact that the restaurant was open on our wedding day and on six different occasions restaurant guests walked right into the bridal suite (on one occasion where my bridal party was changing) was beyond frustrating.
Even with those frustrations, we still had a wonderful day. Our guests loved the venue, the food and especially the photo booth!
I have no regrets getting married at HPL and even with the two issues I mentioned, I would still get married here if I had a do over. I know they will work out the kinks over time and truly be able to manage the B&B, restaurant and wedding space.. but all of that takes time when it’s new.
Thank you, HPL!
We got married yesterday at HPL and could not be more pleased with the service. Adam was really easy to work with, very flexible, and went above and beyond to make sure everything ...
was perfect. The rest of the HPL team was so accommodating as well. They treat you like family! HPL catered my rehearsal dinner, wedding, and a Sunday brunch - everything was delicious! We got so many comments on how great the food was. We also stayed at the BNB for the weekend, which was enough space for all of our bridal party. It was so convenient to have everyone on site and ready to go!
The venue itself is beautiful. There are great indoor and outdoor spots for a ceremony / reception. My guests were very impressed by the place and extremely comfortable. I cannot recommend HPL enough!
HPL is a beautiful historic (built in 1854) home on some gorgeous property right in downtown Montgomery! It's got century-old oaks and pecan trees for your ceremony, a permanent bu...
ilt in photo booth, and now a really great reception hall enclosed with glass and awesome decking all the way around it!
We had our ceremony between the two pecan trees in the backyard, our cocktail hour on the deck, and reception in the Glass Garden. My husband's family, who lives about three hours away, were able to stay at the B&B there all weekend so they were really able to enjoy their time there! Everything turned out perfect and everyone there (Jeff, Adam, and Chef Rick) was amazing!
I honestly would not have wanted to get married anywhere else. The intimate garden feel combined with the newer, modern Glass Garden, even down to the spacious bridal suite with amazing clawfoot tub, it was all absolutely perfect and I wouldn't change a thing.
Buyer Beware
Summary: The venue was pretty and nice but the management was horrible. Would not recommend.
Details: We booked them for a wedding and they made numerous promises w...
hich they did not keep including having a discounted rate for guests, at another hotel, shuttle service, and food tastings. They simply said it is not in the contract whenever we would ask. Unfortunately, we had already put money down and did not want to lose it all so went through with our booking of the entire venue for the weekend. Upon our arrival, the place was completely disgusting and unclean. We told the director Adam and he offered a coupon for 2 free nights which we did not want. He never even cleaned or arrainged for the bathrooms to be cleaned so our guests had to pull other people's hair out of the drain in order to take a shower and the sheets were soiled and stained. It was like no one even attempted to clean anything.
We ordered the queso bar from them and signed the documents but they forgot to do it for the wedding but they did reimburse us the amount. The cake that we ordered through their only vendor absolutely fell apart and turned what should have been an iconic photo into an embarassment. When we tried to talk to them about it they said it was not their fault and ran my card on file without my consent.
The wedding itself was nice and the food was good but I would not recommend them at all for an event due to the headache they caused as well as poor customer service. If you do get every little detail in writing because they will not honor their word.
HPL was the perfect choice for our wedding! Their team did everything in their power to make our day perfect. The venue was beautiful, the food was delicious, and everything was pl...
anned perfectly! They have a beautiful space inside and out! Carolyn knows this venue inside and out and was able to create the perfect atmosphere for us. Callie, Christine, and Jeff were helpful and excited the entire time, and they accommodated every request we made. I would absolutely recommend this venue to any bride looking to get married in the Houston area.
I proposed to my fiancé at the Hodge Podge Lodge. It is a beautiful venue with lots of options for entertainment. Everyone on staff is there to help no matter what the request. The...
y will do whatever they can to make you happy and your event the best that it can be. The owner and his family truest love what they do and making people happy. They are the ones who really make the Hodge Podge Lodge a special place.
My wife and I got married at HPL in March of 2018. The venue is absolutely beautiful. Our guests only had positive things to say about it. The historic home has such a unique touch...
to it and the outdoor space is incredibly inviting. We loved that it is a B&B also. We stayed there on our wedding night and really enjoyed being in the same place.
We signed our contract in October after touring the venue a few weeks prior. During our tour, we were told several things that we had to work to get later on. My only disappointment with HPL is that several things were promised verbally, and some written, that my wife and I had to ask to be honored. While Jeff did honor his word, we were frustrated that in the the few weeks leading up to our wedding we had to worry about figuring out what was told to us before, then planning a time to speak with him about it, asking for those things to be honored, and then waiting for it be done. It just seemed like unnecessary work on our parts. Jeff did apologize for these things and did follow through on his word. It appears the venue is undergoing some staff changes, price changes, etc. that will hopefully be worked out soon and that is a lot of what led to the issues.
Yet still, my wife and I highly recommend this venue. Our wedding was incredible and a large part of that is because of the beautiful venue. We had plenty of space to get ready in on the day of the wedding, the dance floor was the perfect size, the glass garden was perfect and the charming house was the perfect touch.
What blessing it was for us to have our wedding reception here. All staff beginning with the owners to our wedding planner, caterer, DJ, and clean up crew were beyond amazing and s...
o nice. I never felt stressed or worried at any point. Everything was so organized and the night flowed so well. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone.
Thank you so much, Hodge Podge Lodge! May God continue to bless your business for many years to come :)

We could not have asked for a better venue or better people. Sophie and Carolyn made our special day perfect and truly became a part of our family. I would suggest HPL to everyone ...
, they paid attention to every detail. We can't wait to go back to stay and reminiscence about our wedding night.
The day my fiance and I saw this venue, we knew it would be perfect for our small, intimate wedding. The site is charming and absolutely beautiful. What I didn't know was how I com...
pletely underestimated how perfect my wedding day would actually be. I cannot put into words how amazing the venue ended up being, but even more how great the HPL team was. The day of the wedding, I knew everything was going to be taken care of so I had to do nothing by enjoy being with friends and family. When the moment actually came and I walked outside for the first time I was breathless (and not just at my groom!) Everything was decorated exactly how I imagined it and my wedding day was just perfect! I couldn't have asked to work with better people and I am so incredibly thankful that I chose the HPL. You will NOT be disappointed! :)
Our wedding was this past weekend, October 24th, during what the meteorologist liked to call, "The worst hurricane in history." As you can imagine, me and my husband were a bit wor...
ried, to say the least, as we had picked an outdoor venue with the hopes of an outdoor wedding. Well, it didn't exactly go as planned, but the team at Hodge Podge made everything so enjoyable even with the rain. The ceremony moved over to the pavilion, which is so new and super nice, and the reception was moved into the house. It was all so very quaint, beautiful, and so so much fun! We danced the night away in that house and had the absolute best time. I could not be more pleased with how everything turned out. Everyone was so amazing at easing my mind throughout the entire day, and we could not have asked for a better day. Love Hodge Podge and cannot wait to go back, even for just a one night stay.
After being engaged for only a for only a few weeks and not having any intentions of starting to make plans or set dates, I accidentally came across this gem of venue called the Ho...
dge Podge Lodge. I immediately fell in love with this cozy bed and breakfast/ wedding venue before I ever set foot inside. After taking a tour, seeing the charming indoor space and the quaint outdoor area, I was sold. My fiancé and i went back together the next weekend and booked it for May! Our shabby chic outdoor wedding could not have been anymore spectacular and all of the staff at HPL were such a joy to work with. All of the vendors that i chose were very familiar with the venue and with one another wich made my experience so easy and personal. We were truly blessed to have found HPL and all of the special people involved in our wedding planning journey. Thank you HPL!!
