Hooray for Sonya Krimsky and the rest of the staff at the Holbrooke Hotel! So professional, responsive, kind, and informative! We couldn't be happier with our beautiful wedding event at the hotel and with all the additional amenities we were afforded. Sonya was with us from day 1 and was always available for questions. She consistently came through with creative options and solutions. Our family and friends are still reaching out months later to tell us that our wedding was superb. Bravo!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Holbrooke and all their staff during the process of planning this wedding. Given that the Holbrooke has such a wide range of services it felt as though our work load was greatly lightened.
The team is highly responsive and professional and truly enjoyable on a personal level. The recommended vendors provided were all truly outstanding.
We had a welcome reception in the Iron Door, the wedding and reception were in the North Star Hall and an afterparty returned us to the Iron Door. Each space is architecturally beautiful and did not require a high volume of decor, making our planning smoother. The wedding was to take place at the Purcell Lawn but due to rain had to move inside. The staff at the Holbrooke handled the last minute change so well that guests had no idea any change of plans had taken place at all.
The food and wine list is comprehensive with great vegan and vegitarian options. We heard repeatedly from guests that they had the best food they have ever had at a wedding.
The hotel room we were put in by the Holbrooke was truly the nicest room we have ever stayed in. We arrived to a beautiful welcome bouquet and complimentary bottle of Cava. The view from the room over Grass Valley was stunning.
Our wedding was perfect, exactly what we dreamed and that is in thanks greatly to the Holbrooke team.
tl;dr the Holbrooke (and Sonya - their events manager) was AMAZING.
The Space:
When we were looking for venues, we wanted something cool/different, nearby, and we definitely wanted a hotel so our party could stay at the venue. The Holbrooke checked all of those boxes- especially the "cool/different" box. It's a truly beautiful hotel, the interior design is incredible. It's been totally restored, retaining all the special and unique details from the victorian era. Just a gorgeous backdrop that photographed really well. I didn't even need to bring in much to decorate the ceremony, reception, or after hours speakeasy as they were all stunning by themselves.
The Staff:
Sonya and her events team were so flexible and supportive the entire we planned this event! I request an all vegetarian/partially vegan reception dinner and her chef made a truly delicious meal that served really well as family style. No detail was overlooked with the drinks & food, and they truly went above and beyond in all aspects. We had sparkling wine at the ceremony, 5 speciality cocktails/open bar at the cocktail hour, passed apps, a beautiful dinner, and a lively after-hours celebration in their speakeasy. They even went above and beyond to rent waffle irons for our desert in lieu of us doing a cake. I mean, unreal in terms of support. We hosted our rehearsal dinner and a Sunday boozy brunch there as well, and each time the food was perfect, on time, and no hiccups when it came to any allergies.
All in all, if we could do it all again, I would chose the Holbrooke each and every time. I love this hotel, and we can't wait to go back and visit sometime soon.
The Holbrooke was seriously amazing. Our daughter's wedding turned out better than we could have ever imagined. Sonya with the Holbrooke walked with us from beginning to the end. We loved the atmosphere, and the food was delicious. You can tell that we are very happy that we choose the Holbrooke. Go check them out... Best regards, Mary and Mike
Our wedding at the Holbrooke was so awesome! The staff took such great care of us - from the printed menus to extra housekeeping services. It was a truly magical experience.
This place has it all! We hosted our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception here and then ended up staying for the after-party as well. Many of our guests even stayed the night at the hotel, they LOVED it!
The feedback we got from our guests was “elegant, beautiful, convenient, best wedding food, good service, great drinks” – honestly, we got so many compliments we couldn’t keep track. Not a single negative review on our wedding. And the Holbrooke made it easy!
Events Manager, Sonya coordinated everything for us. She set up our room block, went over the food and beverage options with us, came up with a floor plan for the reception, and even sent brunch up to the bridal suite while we were getting ready. She found a place for us to store our decorations, helped us monitor our beverage count (so that we stayed on budget), and curated a 5-star team for our event. She even got the chef to make a special Horchata drink for us to serve our guests. She took care of so much!
We hosted our ceremony and reception in the North Star Hall (there’s a 360 virtual tour on their website! Makes planning the room so easy when you can see it AND measure it in real time) – a room so beautiful that it needs minimal decorating! We hosted our cocktail hour downstairs in the Iron Door Bar, our guests loved it so much down there that they went back after the reception. The food was amazing and the bar and catering service was great!
They offer the venue for a Food & Beverage Minimum and included in the price are the tables, chairs, linens, silverware, drinkware... everything you need! They even print out menus for your guests with your special tagline at the top and offer a list of preferred vendors. Right down the street, you have bakeries, restaurants, bars, a candy/ice cream shop, and gift shops – plenty of places for out-of-towners to enjoy within walking distance.
Aside from Sonya and the Holbrooke, our dream team was:
DOC – Fairy God Coordinator, Shelby Coppin
Officiant – Frank Swastek
DJ – Someone Said Yes!, Matt Connelly
Photobooth - Someone Said Smile!, Matt Connelly
Photographer – Caillah Virginia Photography, Caillah Chandler
Hair & Makeup – Wanderlust Beauty Collective, Shannon Wilkening & Jacquie Clemens
Florals – Foothill Flowers and Thorns & Berries
There are only a handful of “once in a lifetime experiences” you’ll get in your life, and often times a wedding celebration is one of them. My wife and I feel that the entire staff at the Holbrooke Hotel, along with Sonya at the helm (the hotel manager), had met every single expectation, desire, and dream come true for our special day! From start to finish Sonya was so kind yet professional, so organized yet flexible, she was a great communicator with courteous and exceptional treatment in handling every question we had. This experience paired with The Holbrooke Hotel as a GORGEOUS venue with amazing food and cocktails…we seriously could not have asked for more.
