Holly Tate and her entire team (Chef Ben and others) did a great job at our wedding. Just as important, they could not have been more organized, friendly, helpful and competent throughout the whole planning process. From the first time we sat down with her, she took time to find out about us as a couple, what kind of sensibilities and preferences we had, and what the big themes were of our wedding. We got a lot more out of that meeting than just our catering options and what things would cost. She offered helpful suggestions about the organization of the evening, decorations, the ceremony and other aspects of the wedding weekend. What you realize when you talk to her is that, as a caterer with a long track record of doing weddings, she has seen so many good and bad choices made over the years. If you are willing to listen, she has a lot of wisdom to offer about what makes for a really fun wedding.
That good judgment carries over to her management of the catering itself. She doesn’t want to sell you more than you need on the food or rental front, and she strikes a good balance between listening to your initial preferences and making suggestions based on offerings she has that you might not know about. From what we tasted on our own menu, there is a lot that Chef Ben and his crew can cook very well. She always seemed to have our best interests and budget in mind when making her recommendations, and the catering proposal she submitted at the end of our meeting was thorough, transparent, and accurate about the final costs.
We choose Holly Tate to be our caterer a good 9 months before the event, and the communication in the months leading up to the wedding was spot-on. Any questions we had were answered fully and promptly, even though we didn’t live in the area and were working with her from out-of-town. We were able to do a tasting with Holly and Chef Ben about 6 weeks before our wedding, which was really just a chance to have a good meal and talk over last-minute details. Our wedding was at a site Holly and Chef Ben had never catered at before, and they even insisted on meeting us out at the site (a 45-minute drive) so they could look over the facilities—important since they do their food preparation on-site.
The actual event was managed well from beginning to end. Holly has chosen competent staff, and her attention to detail came through in their professionalism throughout the reception. Dealing with any unexpected setup issues, bringing the bride and groom hors d’oeuvres while they were taking pictures, packaging everything away afterwards, juggling drink orders at the bar, etc.—it was all perfectly executed.
We have nothing but good things to say about Holly Tate, Chef Ben and the rest of her staff. They’re a thoroughly well-run and skilled small business with a lot of experience, and we were thrilled to work with them and get to know them through this event. Highly Recommend !!!
