Amazing Venue, with Amazing Service, Food, etc!!!
We hosted our wedding at the Hotel Du Pont on Saturday September 7, 2024. From the moment we toured the space in 2022 to the day after our wedding, we had the perfect experience. The Event Director at the Hotel, Shellie Engelquist, truly made our day absolutely perfect. She listened and acknowledged every question I had, no detail was overlooked, and was genuinely happy and excited for us on our big day. Shellie ensured we got exactly what we wanted for our day, no request too big or too small. Her hospitality, attention to detail, excellent communication, and kindness made our experience at the Hotel top tier. Aside from Shellie’s outstanding participation, the Hotel itself is absolutely stunning. The food was incredible!!! And the staff was patient, happy, and kind. We feel truly lucky to have had Shellie’s guidance through the process, and of course, the Hotel’s undeniable beauty to celebrate our best day. Thank you Shellie and Hotel Du Pont!!!
Shellie was incredible! She made everything incredibly easy to work with our outside planner for day of. She was incredibly helpful and easy to reach, even out side of business hours when I needed her! We developed an incredible relationship over the course of me planning our wedding and am truly sad it’s over!!! 100/10 recommend this venue as it was the absolute wedding of our dreams!
Shellie and her team were incredibly great to work with. They were accommodating and kind each and every step of the way. There was no request we made that Shellie didn’t handle with grace and professionalism (and we had a few odd ones). A+++
Any questions?
Hotel DuPont exceeded every expectation we had for a wedding venue! When my daughter and I first walked into the lobby for the venue tour we were blown away by the intricate details, ascetic and smell - and that was just the lobby! From the ballroom to the bridal prep rooms, we could not believe this stunning location was in our backyard. My daughter knew this was her venue. We secured our spot quickly, not only for the beauty of the venue but for the people who filled it. Every individual we interacted with during the planning process at Hotel DuPont made us feel like we were their only wedding on the calendar. Shellie and her team were top notch, and did not miss one detail. They were professional, communicated quickly and effectively, and they made us feel like lifelong friends. They took such great care of us! Even with the inevitable hiccups you face during wedding planning, we always felt in good hands and supported by the staff at Hotel DuPont - they were there for a quick phone call, welcomed in person meetings and answered every email no matter the topic! The day of the wedding was a literal dream because of all the dedication and work Hotel DuPont put into my daughter's day. Every bite, every sip and every detail was made to perfection - they took our ideas, vision and crazy call outs to heart and made the day flawless. The quality of service from bar tenders, to servers, to even the staff behind the desk treated that day as if it was the biggest day of their lives. The weddings was back on June 22nd and it has been a month since we celebrated and we still receive messages and phone calls reminiscing about how beautifully breathtaking Hotel DuPont was. Family comparing the ballroom to what you see in movies and friends sharing how much loved the old world elegance that is Hotel DuPont. By choosing Hotel DuPont to be the backdrop for my daughter's wedding was the best decision we made. The quality, elegance and service you receive through from DuPont will not go unnoticed by guests. We have not one regret or missed wish when we look back on the planning phase and that is all thanks to the incredible and talented professionals at DuPont.
Shellie and the Hotel Du Pont team are total pros. They were very accommodating throughout the process and were always willing to work with us to make our day as special as possible. The food and drinks were all terrific and the service was exceptional. We were attracted to Hotel Du Pont as a venue because of the opportunity to host a “Wedding Weekend” and not only did we get to pull that off, but Hotel Du Pont made it a better experience than we could have hoped for. Great food, beautiful ballrooms and accommodations, and a professional and friendly staff made this a home run wedding venue for us.
It is such a regal venue that takes your breath away for a fairytale wedding. The entire staff were amazing to work with from beginning to end. Shellie is so knowledgeable and answered our questions in a very timely matter giving great suggestions that just added to our special day. I would recommend this venue to everyone.
Absolutely amazing experience. From our first tour with Courtney it was obvious how special this venue was, our guests were SO impressed. It made decor EASY. The team really catered to our needs, even going as far as working with the bar manager at Le Cav to customize our signature drinks. The food was incredible (how often do you get to say that at a wedding?) and various staff throughout the event were professional and kind. We even had a few guests extend their weekend at the hotel after the wedding and they were granted the hotel block price. Cannot say enough great things about this venue. It's a no-brainer.
Hotel du Pont was an outstanding location for my wedding and Shellie Engelquist could not have been more helpful. From start to finish, she took care of everything so that I had no worries and could enjoy myself. Several guests told us it was the prettiest wedding they had ever been to!
My daughter and her husband were married this past September at the Hotel DuPont and we cannot sing enough praises about our experience. In fact, we are still hearing how wonderful the wedding was from family and friends months later!! From start to finish, the entire staff, most especially Shellie and Jacob could not do enough for us. In fact, they went above and beyond. Our family checked into the hotel the Thursday night before the wedding and had dinner at a local restaurant. Shellie, went to the restaurant prior to our arrival and had a bottle of champagne waiting for us ! The entire staff of Hotel DuPont was extremely warm, friendly and welcoming to our family. All of our guests who spent the night or weekend also told us how wonderful the staff was and also how beautiful the hotel and rooms are. The food was absolutely delicious and the waitstaff did an excellent job serving 200 people. My daughter and her husband did a take on the "moscow mule" for their signature drink and named it the Kiev Mule as tribute to my Ukrainian heritage. Shellie and her staff surprised us with Ukrainian Vodka ! It was such a thoughtful gesture that we will fondly remember forever. Thanks to Hotel DuPont and everyone involved in planning the entire weekend, our daughter's wedding could not have been more perfect!
From the moment we saw the Hotel du Pont, we knew it was the right venue for our wedding. It is obviously a stunning, historic venue but the best part of this venue was the professionalism amongst all the staff. Shellie was everything you could ask for and was really like a wedding planner for us. She coordinated all of our food, specialty cocktails (which included an espresso martini ice luge) and every detail of the wedding that the hotel would be responsible for. She recommended we use color linens in the gold ballroom, and OH BOY was she right!! Shellie was QUICK to respond to every email I sent, which totaled in the hundreds, which was always a delight, because as we all know, planning a wedding can be stressful. She also took my worries to heart and solved every issue I presented her with and I trusted her completely with our vision.
We had our ceremony and after party at the hotel, as well as our room block which was great for all our guests. The fact that we didn’t have to waste time traveling to and from locations was IDEAL! I cannot recommend the Hotel du Pont enough, they are the true example of professionalism and I am already thinking of all the future events I could have there in the future!
From the first meeting with our event coordinator to the Day of, my daughter's wedding at the Hotel duPont was the best wedding experience any mother could hope for. Every detail was attended to , every food choice was superb and the service staff provide the highest quality of customer service, Our wedding package was all inclusive and worry free. We continue to receive the highest compliments on the wedding from our guests and we couldn't be more thrilled. When you are searching for a wedding venue for that special day, look no further than the Hotel duPont, a jewel!
Hi, I am the MOB. This time last year I walked in to Hotel Dupont and met Courtney . She took me for a tour and I sent my daughter the information. We both fell in love with it immediately. Courtney was so professional and helped in every way. I would absolutely recommend this hotel for a wedding. The whole weekend seemed like a fairytale. Not once did they ever say we couldn’t do something, the word no was never used. It actually did surprise me, because whenever I asked for something they said yes and I don’t mean a glass of wine or any like that during the reception. I mean leading up to the reception. If I asked, can I switch something around it was sure! If I asked can we use candles it was sure. We never went to a wedding there before so we had no idea how the food would be. My daughter decided to have fillet and I was very nervous about 190 fillets coming out. I just want everybody to know do not worry it came out to perfection. Everybody was telling me that the food was delicious. I thought maybe ours was just delicious because we were one of the head tables. My neighbor who has had several weddings herself because she has 5 daughters. She said she eat everything on her plate because it was so delicious. The wine was perfect and the service was impeccable! Gosia was the head waitress for us, was on point all night and also for the brunch the next morning. We really could not believe that she brought around water to the tables along with everything else that night. I always feel bad about asking for it at weddings because they have so much to do, never once did I have to ask for it and neither did my guests. If my water glass was empty they filled it. Thank you so much Hotel DuPont!!
It is hard writing this review because everything about The Du Pont was so perfect for our wedding. I can easily sit here and list off everything we loved but then I would be here all day. The communication and staff at the Du Pont absolutely made our wedding special beyond belief. Courtney persistently checked in with us and ensured my wife and I were kept up to date and had everything we needed. The wedding packages are customizable and can be manipulated in a way that meets your desires. We mentioned including our sweet dog into the wedding and The Du Pont welcomed this idea and even had a welcome treat in our room ready for our arrival. The food was tremendous. We opted to host a brunch the next day and the guests could not stop talking about how wonderful it was. Would we host our wedding here again? Yes. A million times over and over.
The Hotel DuPont offered a grand and luxurious backdrop to my Bridgerton themed wedding! In addition the beauty of the architecture, the hotel provided exceptional service from my first consultation to my wedding day. Courtney and her team were so friendly and accommodating with multiple site visits, mock-ups, and rental orders. They were always flexible and able to adapt to any request made by me or my planning team. The Hotel DuPont also offers first class guest experience! The Hotel’s food was incredible, and all of my guests raved about the food in the cocktail hour, the reception, after party, and the sendoff brunch. I’m so happy with my total wedding experience from planning through my wedding weekend and highly recommend this location for any bride in the Greater Philadelphia region.
If you are looking for historical elegance - look no further than The Hotel DuPont! Beyond the gorgeous architecture, the lovely people of TEAM HDP are a pleasure to work with. From our first meeting until we loaded up our car on Sunday, everyone went above and beyond to make us (and our guests) feel special. They even shuttled my grandparents to Church on Sunday morning - how sweet is that!
Our wedding at Hotel Du Pont was everything we could’ve ever asked for and more. Jamie and Courtney were AMAZING to work with, and helped us every step of the way. The few weeks leading up to the wedding they were ALWAYS available to help us with anything we needed! From start to finish everything ran so smoothly! The food was amazing, the staff was incredible, and we received wonderful reviews from our guests as well. It was truly the best weekend ever!
The Hotel DuPont was everything we could have asked for and more! Jamie was a dream to work with and had great suggestions for us throughout the planning process. The beauty of the venue speaks for itself. The food was beyond spectacular and Executive Chef Patrick D’Amico’s artistic flair created delectable cocktail hour hors d’oeuvres and magnificent main course entrees! The staff was very welcoming and accommodating to us and our guests. Spark’d Creative made a delicious signature raspberry pound cake that was quite literally the icing on top of an incredible evening. We truly appreciate the Hotel DuPont’s efforts to create our June 2022 dream wedding experience!
Cara & Ken
We had our wedding at Hotel duPont this past December and it was amazing! We worked with Courtney and Jamie and the rest of the team. They were very responsive and SO helpful!! The venue is absolutely beautiful. We will definitely be going back for our year anniversary! :)
Working with Jamie and the team at the Hotel du Pont was the absolute best experience - truly made our wedding! We began working with Jamie about 6 months before our wedding when she joined the team, and we can not thank her enough! Her and her team were incredibly professional and kind, they made us and our families so special from start to finish. Jamie responded to every question and concern immediately - and even helped us decide on parts of our wedding look from linens and florals to floor plans. We adore her!
Our wedding at the hotel was beyond our wildest dreams, it was simply STUNNING. Beyond that, hosting most of our wedding there was a breeze. Guests were blown away by the beautiful rooms and enjoyed having everything (except our ceremony) on site. Everyone loved the hotel, the reception, the after party, and brunch hosted at the hotel. The food was fantastic and our cake was to die for! We loved our experience from start to finish... we would do it again if we could!
Hotel du pont gave us a wedding weekend far beyond our wildest dreams! It is truly such an elegant and timeless hotel with first class customer service. It’s the perfect wedding venue as you can host all of your events in one location with guests just going upstairs once the night is over! We had our rehearsal dinner in the Odessa/Newark room which carried over into the Le Cav bar for a welcome party with out of town guests on Friday, our wedding reception in the Gold Ballroom on Saturday night, after party in the Christina Room, and our Sunday morning brunch in the du Barry room. The whole weekend was absolutely perfect and I still think about it everyday. From our initial meeting-Jamie our wedding coordinator were fantastic and so personable, organized and detail oriented. She was always quickly replying to all of my questions surrounding our big weekend. Everything leading up to our wedding went so smoothly and the food/wine/cake tasting was probably one of my favorite nights ever!! Jamie made the event planning process so stress free and fun! Once the wedding weekend came-all of the hotels staff was excellent and so accommodating making sure all of us and our guests needs were met. Breakdown of things for the weekend:
Rehearsal: in the Odessa/Newark rooms. Great location tucked away in the hotel for an intimate vibe! Staff did a great job assisting our guests to the location. We loved our signature drink (vodka, champagne @ fruit blend), the stationary displays and the food served as well as the open bar! Great spot for an intimate dinner.
The bridal and groom getting ready rooms: filled with natural light and the perfect getting ready spot! Lots of space for hair and makeup artists and ability to setup tables for food/drinks for bridal party
Cocktail hour: delicious and abundant food with passed bites and stationary displays. Well stocked and staffed bars with no bar bottleneck..
Reception: beautifully setup by hotel staff!.
Delicious food, the best I’ve ever had at a wedding. the wine with dinner was an elegant touch as well. The guests also loved that the bar remained open throughout dinner service! The wedding cake (we picked the pink champagne) was moist and delicious. One of our and the guests highlights was the coffee service & hotel du pont macaroons. Chris made sure me and my husband had a drink and food throughout the whole night and made sure all of our needs were attended to.
After party: Christina room was such a cool spot for the after party! The staff again did a great job at the bar and the flatbreads were ordered were delicious and different (I.e. Gorgonzola and fig, etc) they even brought over our leftover desserts from our reception for guests to snack on as well
Brunch: in the du Barry room. The food and staff was outstanding again! Very attentive and making sure everyone’s glass was filled and that they got enough to eat. Guests loved the Sunday am brunch so everyone could discuss the previous night and catch up with each other/say hi to their newly made friends!
Chris, Auggie, Jamie & Amalia were behind the scenes the whole weekend making sure everything went perfectly and I can’t thank them enough for creating a seamless weekend. Every guest we’ve talked to said it was the most elegant and fun wedding they’ve ever attended and my parents and my husband & I feel the same!! Can’t thank you enough & we hope our friends choose hotel du pont to get married at so we get to go to another wedding here!!
I had my wedding here in December and I don’t even know how to begin to describe how wonderful it was.
The coordinators - Sandy, Jamie, and Amalia were so gracious and made every step of the planning process seamless. They covered every detail and provided me with so many wonderful options.
The hotel itself is just absolutely breathtaking. It’s timeless and elegant. It was also really nice to have the ceremony, reception, and guests stay all in one place.
Thank you to the Hotel DuPont for making our dream wedding a reality
Our daughters wedding at the Hotel DuPont was nothing short of spectacular! We had 3 days of events including a rehearsal dinner, food while the bridal party was getting ready, the wedding reception, an after party and a brunch, and each of them was special and perfectly done. The food was the best I have ever had at a wedding and the service was wonderful! I was concerned about both of these elements as the Omicron wave was at or near its peak and every venue was having difficulties with employees falling ill and out with Covid, and supply chain issues that effected food offerings. None of these difficulties were evident for any of our events at the Hotel DuPont! They handled everything with seeming ease. There were many new employees but they were all very well trained and could not have been more helpful. Our every need was attended to. A special thank you to Sandy our wedding coordinator and Aggie the banquet manager who pulled everything together to make our experience fantastic and second to none! Their confident, friendly demeanors were well appreciated as I know we were one of 3 weddings they both had to work on that weekend. They should have been frazzled but were delightful and helpful. We truly felt like we were the only focus for them and that is not an easy feat. The venue of course is stunning, old world classy and authentic, and the rooms were also beautiful. We would highly recommend the Hotel DuPont to any bride.
Our wedding was absolutely beautiful, and we couldn't have been more happy to have held it at the Hotel Du Pont. Our guests are still raving about it being the best wedding they've ever been to. All that being said, as the bride, I felt there were many many things we loved about it, and quite a few things that could have been improved upon. The first, being that our wedding coordinator changed 5 times from the time we booked, 2 of which we were told about, 3 of which we were not. Because of this, we found communication to be lacking, especially given the coronavirus outbreak, we thought that it should go without saying to keep in touch with your clients who have imminent 2020 weddings. However, we did not hear from the Hotel for several months, and by June, I reached out to who I thought was our 4th coordinator- only to have our emails never responded to. It took quite a few emails before Sandy, our fifth and final coordinator caught that we were not being responded to and informed us she was taking over our wedding. I loved having Sandy handle our wedding very much! I think she is amazing, but we could not shake the feeling that they should have been more on top of reaching out to remaining 2020 brides with securing back up dates without any prompt from us, and this did not happen. Maybe that's overreaching for us since they were of course short staffed. When it came to changing the wedding to maintain the proper restrictions- it felt as if overall, the hotel was very prepared to accommodate us which we appreciated so much, but there were several things that were done on the day that we were not clearly made aware of. For the ceremony, we felt that we were told that friends and family would be separated. Apparently, there were no chairs at all for friends, leading to many people attending a black tie wedding standing, which I did not like at all, and did not feel this was communicated clearly to us or we would have absolutely not allowed it. I brought the escort cards/menus with me, and was going to put them in the appropriate places to ensure my seating chart was correct, and was convinced to give it up to the banquet managers to sort out, and assured it would be done correctly. My parents and my husbands parents tables were completely backwards, meaning my parents and husbands parents had their backs to the dance floor, rather than facing it. 2 guests' menus from a completely different table were placed at the head table, directly next to my husband and I , rather than our bridesmaid and groomsman who were to sit there. We were told at our details meeting that my husband and I would have use of a car to take us to pictures, and we arranged that several groomsman would take the wedding party. I found out in the lobby that there was no car to take us to the site, which was incredibly frustrating. The brunch that we hosted was missing 2 menu items that were given to us on the original menu at the time of booking by the first coordinator we had, and there was not enough food at all. I also found there was not enough food at the getting ready rooms at all either. Overall we would not change where we had our wedding, but the execution of the details was not where we wanted it to be for our event. We still loved having our wedding here, and like I said, we would not have changed it for the world. Sandy was amazing at answering questions we had and maintaining our expectations throughout the pandemic, and we would choose the DuPont again.
Truly the most spectacular wedding venue in the biz for anyone that wants beautifully maintained old glamour. Everything was prefect for our wedding from the planning process, luxurious hotel rooms that your guests will love, to the best food ever! Thank you to Susan, Tara and their team. We are so happy that we chose the hotel for our wedding!
Fairytale Wedding But I Barely Survived
Our wedding turned out beautiful and a fairytale. Our guests were awed by the history and grandeur of the hotel. Our guests said that the food was great and cake was yummy! One even told me that it was the best cake they've ever had! However, all this came with an emotional price. Granted the hotel had staff transitions. Regardless, here are the wrongs: rooms for my guests were not readily available by check in time (delay time for almost an hour), bridal room arrangement was incorrect (different from what was agreed upon), food for lunch at the bridal room was not served at the time agreed upon on contract, the number of our hotel room blocks were incorrect (corrected with only a month left), and biggest headache of all, ALL of the wedding finalization details were sent to me JUST 3 DAYS prior to when full payment is due (contract said that it would be sent to me "no later than 30 days prior to my event date"). Communication was very much lacking with some emails left unanswered or forgotten. After all this experience, is it still worth it? For my guests, yes. For me, who planned the whole wedding, maybe not.
First let me say, Susan was absolutely AMAZING! She made sure to be there every step of the way, she was always very prompt in getting back to me with all my questions, and most of all she worked with my now Husband and I to make sure we had the perfect day, and made sure we got everything we wanted. Hotel DuPont is absolutely gorgeous, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who is starting to plan their wedding. The Gold Ballroom is beyond stunning, and perfect in every way to have your reception. Not only was Susan amazing, but the staff was wonderful as well. They were beyond helpful on the BIG day and made sure myself and the Groom had everything we needed. Thomas and I got married on January 20, 2019 and people are still taking about the wedding. I wish I could do that day all over again, and everyday at that!! Thank you Susan for making Thomas and I BIG day absolutely wonderful and perfect. Lets do it again!!
Celebrating our wedding at Hotel Du Pont was a dream come true! To start, we saw the venue for a walk through for the first time and absolutely fell in love. Susan was our wedding manager with the hotel and she was beyond amazing. She never pressured us or tried to force any decisions on us. We came back for a second time and Susan was just as delightful as the first! We decided to book the hotel for our August 2018 wedding. From the time we booked the venue, leading up to our wedding day, Susan was extremely helpful! She answered every email and every question we had consistently. She always made my husband and I feel at ease and we never stressed out. When we went in for our food tasting, Susan made sure to dedicate extra time with us to confirm some details. The food tasting was perfect and the chef and kitchen staff are incredible! The week leading up to our wedding, we increased communication between us and Susan and together finalized all items. Susan made sure to contact our vendors about a week prior in order to coordinate and set everything for us to not have to worry about anything on the day of our wedding. When it came to our hotel block, this went seamlessly. Any of our guests that stayed at the hotel had zero issues booking rooms. The weekend of our wedding was completely flawless due to Susan and her team! When we checked into our hotel room for the weekend, the entire staff made us feel welcomed and special. The morning of our wedding, they had the bridal suite and the groom suite ready to go for us first thing in the morning. All day getting ready, the team at Hotel Du Pont continued to go above and beyond to make my husband and I have the best day of our lives! When it came time for our ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception, everything went perfectly. Susan was there to ensure all logistics ran smoothly, and the main captain of the dining room was there all night with us to make sure he and his staff executed all wedding details flawlessly. We were completely blown away with our wedding! Our guests had an amazing time. Everyone was raving about the hotel, decor, food, everything. Our wedding was the more incredible day of our lives and it is because of Susan, the entire staff at the hotel, and the beauty of Hotel Du Pont that we are forever thankful for!
Our daughter’s wedding was held at the Hotel Dupont in late October, 2018. We could not have been more pleased. We looked at a number of venues including the “industrial chic” places in Philadelphia. All of them did not compare to the value, service, style and elegance offered by this classic American hotel.
After the hustle and bustle of the wedding, including an after party to 1 AM, it is comforting to walk across the lobby, push a button and retire to a swanky hotel room. Also, the hotel provides rooms for the bridal party to get ready for the big event. My daughter raved about the wedding night bridal suite.
We had brunch in the Green Room the next day.
It was a wonderful event managed by Susan N., a very capable wedding coordinator. My niece now wants her wedding there.
And I have to give a plug to the FM Band, the best in the Philadelphia area. They, combined with the Dupont, will deliver the memorable event you wish.
Our wedding reception was held at Hotel Du Pont and it was much a great night! First, the ballroom is stunning and really made the venue stand out from many other beautiful places in the area. Second, the food was amazing - filet and crab cakes for our guests - our dessert presentation even came with a flambe and dance from the hotel staff to present. I would highly recommend this venue to anyone interested in having a reception that will stand out and have your guests talking about it for years to come.
Susan was very helpful with picking out food/appetizers, also with details for the reception and making sure that things kept moving the night of. Overall, the staff was extremely friendly and always ready to help with any request.
The hotel rooms were also very large, clean and unique.
If you decide on Hotel Du Pont I can assure you that you will not be disappointed!
A poor review prompted me to ramble a bit :) but I could not be happier that we had our wedding reception in the beautiful Gold Ballroom at the hotel! The stunning architecture and impeccable dining and bar service had our reception go off without a hitch. We were able to add a third bar, extra bartenders, and had people passing out wine during the cocktail hour, helping to ease the post-ceremony rush. Right before the salad course, my lovely bridal party "iced" my husband and I and the hotel staff chuckled and let us enjoy the moment before bringing out the salad course - a type of consideration that cannot be taught, but only comes from years and years of experience. We also had a flambe presentation, which wowed our guests. In addition, I did not want a traditional cake and their pastry shop delivered beautifully decorated cupcakes for us! We had an after party, where the staff seamlessly moved the leftover cupcakes, coffees, and desserts into the room and artfully arranged them. When my husband and I finally made it back to our honeymoon suite, all our gifts, cards, and a surprise mini cake for us to keep had all been moved there. We had no issues getting into the room at all. Brunch the next morning was just as brilliant as the rest of the weekend had been! Because the Hotel does such a fantastic job with the weddings, this is an extremely popular venue during the wedding season, leading to a few problems with using this hotel for the hotel block. Ours was the third wedding that weekend (we got married on a Sunday) and two other weddings had used the hotel for their room block. Five weddings, with the hotel booked to capacity, led to sluggish valet service and a three to four person queue at check in/out. Also, we chose to not pay for valet parking if guests did not stay at the hotel - a fact that some of our guests did not understand and complained to the hotel about. Valet parking IS included, if the guest stays at the hotel. Additionally, and this is key, in order for guests to receive the wedding block rate, they MUST CALL to book their room and MENTION the wedding BY NAME. In this day and age, talking over the phone seems scary and a little dated, so some of our guests did not do this and booked online anyway. Hopefully, the hotel will fix this for the next wedding season, but for now, if you chose to go with this amazing venue for the hotel block, you will need to let your guests know that they need to call. Or do what we did and compare the reservations in the block with your guest list and ask to move people into the block. Overall, our wedding was beautiful and went smoothly - all due to the fantastic planning done by Susan. The banquet captain, Peter, made sure the reception was executed tastefully and at an old world level of service. Staying at the hotel is where some of our issues were, but I can understand those issues. The hotel could use some extra hands during busy wedding weekends, but overall it was an exceptional experience!
My experience at Hotel Du Pont was abysmal to say the least. While the architecture and design of the hotel is quite elaborate, the same cannot be said for the atrocious service received. I booked a block of hotel rooms for my wedding in September about a year in advance. We dropped off gift bags individually labeled for each guest as the bags contained specific directions for them. The representative we dropped the bags off to was visibly frustrated with it but did not say anything. We learned the next day that the hotel was not giving out bags to specific guests as requested, causing much confusion. When I called them to discuss the representative said they would fix it. But, they continued to just hand out bags without looking at names. When the mother of the bride called again to discuss, they once again said they would fix it. But still, they did not, as evidenced by the fact that we witnessed no more than 10 minutes after that call the Hotel Du Pont representative telling a guest “they are all the same:. It’s not the fact that they handed out gift bags to the wrong individuals, it’s the fact that they blatantly lied to our family multiple times and did nothing to mention the issues it may cause when we dropped off the bags. This was only the beginning of our troubles.
I also stayed at the hotel the night before my wedding and was to be moved to the honeymoon suite the next night. I called multiple times to the front desk and they assured me they would move my bags for me and have a room card ready. Alas, when I came back to the hotel after my wedding, it took 20 minutes to “find” my reservation, even though everything should have been arranged. My new wife and I had to stand at the front desk, in our full wedding attire, while the woman behind the counter struggled to even figure out how to check us in, something you’d think she’d know how to do since that’s a large portion of her job. Again, another example of the lies and deceit by the hotel.
As I stated before, the rooms were elaborate but absolutely needed updating. In both rooms I stayed in the showers did not drain. And in the honeymoon suite the bathtub’s drain stopper did not work and the sink leaked. For a 5 star hotel this shows the lack of attention to detail in what should be one of their finer rooms.
When I talked to family and friends, they all noted similar issues with staff. Multiple guests were charged the full room rate and not the agreed upon block rate causing more confusion. Also, some guests were charged for valet parking even though the block included complimentary valet. But I think more guests would have been better on their own as it took some 20-30 minutes to receive their cars.
We arranged to have my mother pick up the best man’s suit rental from behind the front desk. She picked it up, only to realize when she was over 30 minutes away that she received someone else’s suit. She requested the suit by name but they couldn’t manage that. Then they told the owner of the mystery suit that his suit had been requested by name and picked up. It’s worth it to note that the best man at my wedding and the mystery suit owner do not have even remotely the same name so there’s no excuse.
The lack of attention to detail, atrocious customer service, and lies by the Hotel’s Representatives were experienced not only by myself but also by multiple guests. While this hotel is historic, it is nowhere close to the value they charge.
We had our daughter and son-in law's wedding at the Hotel Du Pont in July and everything was perfect! Susan, our in-house wedding planner, was wonderful! She was professional and always readily available to answer any of our questions. Her expertise in sequencing the day, utilizing the spaces, and attention to detail were greatly appreciated as she perfectly customized and personally oversaw the wedding day. The Gold Ballroom was exquisite, the food delicious, the presentation beautiful, and the staff extremely courteous and attentive. The Du Pont location was wonderful for our out of town guests, as it was close to the Phila. airport and the Wilmington train station. The DuPont had complimentary valet parking for hotel guests and even offered transportation to and from the train station. It was so convenient having the on site hotel accomodations. The rooms were absolutely beautiful and luxurious. The Bridal Suite was gorgeous. The Du Pont provided us with a lovely complimentary suite with light breakfast foods on the morning of the wedding for the bridal party preparations. There was also a great cafe in the hotel where we gathered for meals prior to and the day after the wedding. The staff there was very accomodating to both small and large groups and really catered to everyone's needs. The lobby lounge was also a great gathering space for guests to sit, order appetizers and drinks ,and just relax. Overall, everything was perfect! I would highly recommend the Hotel Du Pont for a wedding. Thank you to Susan and the Hotel Du Pont staff for making our special day everything we had hoped for and more!
Daughter got married recently at the Hotel DuPont and we could not be more pleased! We knew the venue was gorgeous and food would be excellent, but didn't realize how easy the planning would be working with Susan, their in-house event planner. She anticipated our needs, offered excellent suggestions, and made sure everything went smoothly from start to finish. In days and weeks prior to wedding, family and friends kept asking me if it was stressful finalizing the details for wedding. I honestly answered, "Not at all, the Hotel is doing everything!" Thank you Susan!!
My wife Alycia and I had an Indian/Chinese/Western wedding on a Saturday at the Hotel du Pont. It was the perfect wedding venue for us and here’s why:
1) Location: The hotel is located in downtown Wilmington, DE. A very corporate town, which ends up empty on weekends. But that means there’s plenty of free/inexpensive parking nearby for guests (unlike downtown in many other major metropolises). A beautiful field is right next to it, ideal for photos. The space was perfect for a large Indian groom’s procession around the block with people dancing in the streets behind my car.
2) Value: First, the hotel is absolutely beautiful, with authentic décor. The total price we paid was more than fair, especially compared to similar venues in Philadelphia and New Jersey. More generally, it also really helped to have a hotel as a venue, particularly since we had many family and friends from abroad who wanted to easily interact with themselves and with us on the night before the wedding and the morning after. When we were finished dancing on your special day, it was a relief to just take the elevator up to our room. Another advantage was the bundled catering from excellently trained chefs, which also saved money compared to other venues in the area. Having an in-house chef allowed for excellent timing in terms of food preparation and serving. I don’t think a single guest had a wait a long time to get food. Which brings us to the:
3) Food: The sheer number of options spanning diverse cuisine is dizzying. I really appreciated the ability to work with the executive chef to incorporate custom home recipes for Indian dishes native to the northeastern state of Assam (which you don’t find represented in Indian restaurants in the US). The dishes ended up quite tasty and pretty authentic! The house wines were also surprisingly good. The appetizers and dessert spreads were my favorite! Rest assured, guests will fondly remember the food at the Hotel du Pont.
4) Excellent Service: The staff maintained the utmost professionalism when interacting with my guests and family. The front desk was always courteous and happy to help. Whenever I visited to tour the different rooms we planned to use, staff were more than happy to show me around. And of course, the final and most IMPORTANT reason for selecting this hotel was for one person, and one person only:
5) Martha Barnes (Markie), catering sales manager and in-house day-of coordinator. She organized and managed the logistical nightmare that was our tri-cultural wedding, and she did it with poise. She handled our incessant emails asking for details regarding the planning process. She deftly answers the litany of questions hurled at her from multiple excited family members during our final meeting prior to the wedding. When we needed to make immediate adjustments to the schedule on the wedding day, Markie facilitated the changes immediately and without fuss. She ushered all of our guests into each of the rooms so that each of our events started on time. She was always present and always reachable. Despite how busy she was, she always served as a source of comfort with her warm and calm demeanor. My wife and I are so incredibly thankful to have worked with Markie. We will not be surprised in the least if she continues her meteoric rise to upper management sooner rather than later.
Hotel du Pont made my day absolutely perfect. I we picked the hotel for its beauty and architecture, but everything was just above and beyond. I booked the hotel a year and a half before our big day and any time I needed anything from them through the whole process they were always extremely quick in answering all of my questions. The hotel took care of almost everything for the big day. All of the food, tables, chairs, linens, even our wedding cake were all provided by the hotel. We also had a wedding coordinator though the hotel. Markie was
Wonderful and made everything go by so easily. Her and the whole staff made the day run smoothly and once I got there I barely had to worry about anything. They took care
Of everything and made sure the day went by perfectly. The food was wonderful. I even had one guest tell me their steak was so good no other would ever compare. The cake came out perfectly. I sent them
Pictures of what I liked and they created it from those. We also had a flaming dessert display. We knew about it, but the extra flare they added to the display was wonderful, everyone loved it. I’ve had multiple guests reach out to us to tell usnir was be best wedding they’ve ever been to and they don’t know how any other will stack up. Most of the credit for this goes to the hotel for all their hard work
Me and my husband only had 6 months to plan for a wedding. Hotel DuPont was so helpful through the whole wedding prep. Great service and great staff! Especially thanks to the catering manager Susan. She helped a lot from the beginning to the end. The wedding turned out fabulous! And the hotel was gorgeous
Hotel Du Pont exceeded all of our expectations for our wedding reception. The ballroom was absolutely stunning, and all our guests were blown away. All the staff were very professional and organized. They interacted with our third party vendors without any of our help. The flowers were set up and the DJ ready to go without our assistance. Everything went smoothly and our guests had an absolutely amazing time. I would recommend this venue to anyone looking to celebrate their big day with ease and beauty!
We've been married for a month and are still in awe of how magical our wedding was at Hotel DuPont. On our wedding night my husband said, "I wish we could do this all over again tomorrow!" Markie Barnes, our wedding coordinator, made our entire experience absolutely exceptional from our first visit to tour the hotel, through the 8 months of planning, to our fairy tale wedding day! I don't want to count how many times I emailed Markie to ask (probably quite silly) questions but she was so attentive to details, is so enthusiastic, encouraging, and responsive. I know I would have been pulling my hair out if I didn't have her to rely on but the entire time leading up to the wedding, my friends and family were amazed at how stress free I was- and that's thanks to Markie!! Every detail was executed perfectly. Hotel DuPont exceeded our dreams!
While my daughter's 5/13/17 wedding was not held here, we did book a block of rooms and host a morning breakfast buffet the day after the wedding. On the room side, staff was accommodating and considerate to all guests. On the catering side, Susan Norgeat and staff were efficient and delivered excellent service and food. Our guests were very well pleased with all aspects of their stay at the Hotel.
We had a wonderful experience from organizing, planning, to all the little details that made our wedding day unforgettable. The food was amazing, staff professional, and nothing short of splendid. The rooms are beautiful. We got a suite to get ready the morning of the day to help make everything go smoothly and perfectly. It was just perfect!
Classic, elegant, breathtaking, and perfection. The ENTIRE staff is amazing and ensure that everything for your special day is as you want it. They go above and beyond for all guests. I would have never had my dream wedding if it was not for Markie and the staff at Hotel du Pont.
My Hotel du Pont wedding was absolutely a dream come true! We got married Labor Day weekend in the du Barry ballroom. It was perfect for a little over 100 guests. We had both the ceremony and reception in the du Barry room and the cocktail hour in the Christiana room. The venue is absolutely beautiful. The employees at Hotel du Pont are like no other! From the second I pulled up to valet my car to the moment I said goodbye, everyone was friendly and willing to make my every wish come true! The food was all outstanding! For cocktail hour, we chose bruschetta, fig and mascarpone cheese wrapped in phyllo, and beef with pepper skewers. All were excellent but the phyllo one was my favorite. Entrees were mushroom ravioli with herb cream sauce, spinach, and sundried tomatoes; lemon blackberry salmon with butternut squash risotto and green beans; chicken with boursin cheese and julienned mixed vegetables wrapped in phyllo with broccolini and truffle mashed potatoes. Absolutely insanely good! Had many compliments. Baked Alaska was flambéed at tableside. Our guests LOVED it! The staff was so fun. Our DJ played music from Mission Impossible with the lights off and dessert flaming! Macaroons and coffee service was performed prior to our delicious wedding cake. We did chocolate with peanut butter filling and carrot with cream cheese filling wrapped in buttercream and fondant. The night was out of a dream come true! It ended in our HUGE suite with a living room, dining room, king-sized bed, one and a half baths, Jacuzzi tub, shower, fridge, etc. Champagne was chilling next to chocolates and a hand-written thank you from our awesome wedding coordinator, Markie. The hotel staff was fantastic. They moved all of our belongings from the bridal suite to our room. Markie set up all of the guest, place card, and gift tables with decorations just the way we imagined. All of our guests were obsessed with our venue and their hotel rooms. The discounted rate was very reasonable, especially for such a grand place! I 100% recommend Hotel du Pont!!!! Absolutely was the best day of my life!
I got Married at the Hotel DuPont on Valentines Day and I feel like I could not have chosen a better Venue. It was a winter wedding, which was perfect for the hotel because once you step inside the hotel you never want to leave because everything is so beautiful.
The service at the hotel is like nothing else. I worked with Markie Barns who went above and beyond to make our special day incredible and easy. I probably don't have enough characters in this review to write everything that Markie did for us. She was incredibly responsive, always responding to emails within 24 hours, communicating with her manager to get the pianos tuned so my Husband (a pianist) could sit in with the Jazz band, helping my parents with room reservations, supplying me with preferred vendors, taking pictures of rooms and the stands, and taking pictures of different table linens so I could have a special one for my table. I moved to NC half way through the planning so pictures helped since I couldn't visit the venue and she was more than willing.
She also spent countless hours on the phone with me, and my mom and my MIL when they had questions. She helped us set everything up (and I feel like we brought a lot...we had a wine bottle for advice on different years of marriage, a polaroid guest book, table clothes, and a bird cage...this all that took up space). My dress got stained with lip sick and the corset snapped...but Marking came running with club soda, a needle & thread to fix everything! She even brought us champaign to calm the nerves after my dress broke.
The whole hotel staff was incredible too! Everyone was so excited for the wedding! They welcomed us & had everything set up for our wedding party to arrive. The woman who validated parking, and some of the staff came over while I was getting ready to say congratulations. They had food & drinks for everyone in the bridal suite, which was great because we had so many people from out of town visiting. They even brought us appetizers while we were pinning up the train on my dress.
Then there was Andy, the Bellman. I met him at the rehearsal dinner and told him about how I wanted to take pictures outside but I didn't want people to see me walking through he hotel to get to the car/park. He walked me through a bunch of different rooms and set up for a side door to be opened for me to go out so that no one could see me. He even had 3 umbrellas to shield me incase we had to walk through a public area. He came to pick up all the dresses and bring them to the bridal suite, and when my eating went missing (in my purse...go figure) he went back to the other rooms to look for them for me. He was AWESOME!!! He is the nicest man and so helpful, and it just goes to show how amazing and helpful the whole staff is.
Finally, the food...it was AMAZING! My husband was concerned we didn't offer a beaf choice (we did Chicken Salmon, and Veggie) but everyone loved the food! I am still getting comments from people on how amazing the food was.
People have been telling me it was the best wedding they have ever been to and guests who weren't planning on staying ended up staying because they had so much fun.
Oh! And the bridal suite is really nice!
The hotel, especially Markie and Andy, did an amazing job with everything and I couldn't ask for a better place to have my wedding. Everything was absolutely perfect and I could not have asked for a better day. Thank you so so much Markie!
I can't say enough about how beautiful the Hotel is, how great the food was and how great the service was. Everything was perfect for our wedding!
We used this hotel for our October 2015 wedding. It is stunning! With the wedding rate, it is affordable for all guests. I felt great sending my guests here. Because our wedding was at Brantwyn, we got a free suite for our wedding night! Also, blocks are free to make which is a relief. The managers are very easy to work with. We also did a family breakfast at the hotel the morning after the wedding. Food and service were exceptional.
I recommend contacting a manager directly if you have any issues with your block. The people at the front desk seem to get confused about how blocks work, so I would avoid them altogether.
The DuPont Hotel is just stunning and their suites are huge. They provide such amazing service while you're there and are so easy to work with for room blocks for the wedding. Such a beautiful option for anyone in the DE/PA area and I would highly recommend.
This venue couldn't be more stunning. We had our wedding reception in the gold ballroom, my love of history and architecture was more than filled with its historic grandeur.
The food is delicious -- our guests raved over every course from the hors d'oeuvres to the cake and coffee. The service is exceptional. Magically, they kept putting a drink in my hand the whole night, as I continually misplaced mine while greeting all of our guests.
We worked with Jennifer Nguyen, who was an absolute pleasure to coordinate with. She took care of every special request, made sure we always felt comfortable, calm, and informed, and provided every opportunity for customization.
Additionally, the rooms provided to get ready in the morning of were lovely and spacious, and the suite my husband and I stayed in at the hotel that night was luxurious. All of our guests that took advantage of the special room rate for the wedding were highly impressed with their accommodations.
If you're wanting a black tie affair, I highly recommend The Hotel du Pont. We couldn't have had a better experience.
The Gold Ballroom at Hotel Dupont provided for the most elegant backdrop for our winter wedding. The service is impeccable and the food is an unforgettable culinary experience. From beginning to end our contact Jennifer was a pleasure to work with and went above and beyond to make sure our day was picture perfect! It truly was a fairytale wedding and I am so happy we chose the Hotel!
As a little girl I dreamed of having my wedding at the Hotel du Pont but never thought it was financially possible. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the rates for a Saturday afternoon wedding are really comparable to other venues in the area. Win! We had our cocktail hour in the beautiful Christina Room, complete with original Wyeth paintings and other DE/PA artists. Our reception was in the du Barry Room, with the gorgeous chandelier! We had 110 guests and were able to fit perfectly in the room with a nice dance space. If you have a bigger wedding, the Gold Ballroom is exquisite as well; I've been to many events in there. The service was impeccable; the server even asked my new husband if he wanted a second entree after he finished the first! Not to mean that the portions were lacking, he was just really hungry! The food was amazing; we were able to work with the head chef to customize an Italian meal within our budget. Our wedding sales contact, Kim, was very professional, organized, and was so kind and caring. If you are looking for an elegant wedding reception venue (or ceremony) with timeless decor, wonderful service, and delicious food, then this is it! I highly recommend the Hotel and would do it again in a heartbeat!
Kim was our wedding coordinator at the Hotel du Pont and she was fantastic! She made our lives so much easier. She seems to have an endless supply of patience and sweetness, no matter how much stress and chaos is thrown her way.
The du Barry room was lovely for our ceremony and the Gold Ballroom quite glamorous for the reception.
Highly recommended!
Everyone at the hotel, was great from my coordinator, to house keeping.
We had our wedding reception in the Gold Ballroom at the Hotel du Pont. We are still getting compliments on the food, service and how classy the venue is.
We had our wedding reception at Hotel du Pont. Everything was amazing - service, food, decorations, EVERYTHING! Jillian and Michelle were very easy to work with and the reception was flawless! Everyone kept telling us how beautiful it was and how they had such a good time. The complimentary Honeymoon Suite for my husband and I to stay the night of the wedding was breathtaking! Would definitely go with Hotel du Pont again.
Amazing, and the bridal suite is beautiful. HIGHLY recommend. If you hold the wedding at a DuPont property, the room is complimentary, too.
we had an unbelievably pleasant, seamless experience with the wedding coordinators at the hotel du pont. our day was absolutely perfect, without a flaw, because our coordinators treated our wedding as if it were their own.
the food was amazingly gourmet, and the menu selection was quite expansive. we so enjoyed our menu tasting, and with the skills of the chefs, we could have never picked a bad menu. the timing of serving food was impeccable - giving guests time to digest and to enjoy the band's music and our FOB/MOH/BM speeches.
for what we paid, we could have never gotten a similar experience in a philadelphia hotel (which is where we looked prior to finding the hotel dupont). the hotel dupont was worth every penny and was everything we could have wanted and asked for and then some. the gold ballroom was so impressive and grand, yet romantic and intimate. our wedding reception was perfection :)
We had our wedding reception at Brantwyn Estate, Dupont Country Club. Service was excellent. Our wedding coordinator Jenna was attentive to detail and quick to respond to all emails. Our on site coordinator Sam was very attentive, and set everything up more beautifully than we could have imagined. Excellent alternative style venue. Flexibility for unique vendors.
